Our CRV has developed a croaking noise in the right rear whenever we back out of the garage and out of the drive - in fact back- period. It is very loud, but there is no noise when we are going forward in drive.
View 2 RepliesDue to a failed rear differential pump motor (I believe that is the proper name) my car has been driving approx 6,000 miles stuck in 4WD. Long story how that was discovered, but that was verified by the Honda dealers repair shop. My feeling is that may have caused major issues that will creep up down the road. Short term my gas mileage suffered, and likely the tires are not wearing properly.

View 4 Replieswe have a 2012 Honda Civic with about 70k miles. Recently it's started to make two different noises that we think are coming from the back left wheel. The light metallic grinding sound is usually triggered when we drive uphill and to the right. The louder sound is triggered on a hard right.
We took it to the mechanic and he said he can't find anything wrong with the car, except that our tires were nearly bald and cupping. We replaced all four tires because we were planning on doing that anyway. After the tires were replaced, the sounds went away for one day and now they are back. What could be causing this sound? It is not triggered by braking. The mechanic said the brakes are fine now but will probably need to be replaced in the next year.

Whenever I make a sharp (think turning into driveway) turn left or right, my car makes a knocking noise. Not a clicking, but I recreated the noise by knocking 2 plastic cups together. 2012 Honda Civic LX.
View 4 RepliesI just purchased a used 2012 Honda Odyssey with 88k miles. After not driving it for two days I went out and tried to start it. The powered side doors were working just fine, and all the gauges and indicators seemed to be fine and the power locks worked, but it did not start. There was no noise at all. It was as if the car didn't realize I had turned the ignition. I tried a few times, waited for a few seconds, tried again, and the car started like there had never been a problem. When it started, it wasn't weak. It started like new. The problem sounds a lot like mine [URL] .... except that it then started for me. We have been driving the car for less than a week, and as mentioned, I didn't drive it at all for two days, but it has had no problem starting any other time.
View 6 RepliesI bought a 2012 honda civic HF, now has 1000 miles. I hear a clunk when I release the pedal. I heard the same noise on another car that was on the dealer's lot. The dealership has not been useful with fixing this issue; they said the clunk is normal. Honda has not been all that supportive. What is making this sound and what can I do about this?

View 8 RepliesI have a honda crv 1999. There is a vibrating noise in the rear end every time I turn. I have had this problem for a couple of years. The reason I have'nt done anything about it was that my mechanic said it was an annoying noise but not dangerous...that he'd seen this in this type of vehicle many times. As it turns out my young neighbor has recently gone to school and become a honda mechanic so I asked him. He said that it was a simple fix...that I just had to change the differential fluid. When I told this to my mechanic he insisted that changing the differential fluid was a bad idea...that it might create problems that I don't have. My mechanic has always done well by me but the noise is scary. What should I do?
View 4 RepliesMy '98 Honda Civic hatch is making a rubbing or grinding type noise that seems to be coming from the right rear wheel. It only happens when I'm making a speedy left turn and is made worse when there's lots of weight in the back seat. My boyfriend who mostly knows what he's doing checked the wheel for play and any grinding of the wheel bearings and he thinks the bearings are fine. We also checked around the wheel for foreign objects and any obvious issues i.e. pieces of the car hanging off.
View 3 RepliesI have a 2000 CR-V with rear drum brakes that make quite a bit of noise. When I press the brake pedal, they make a noise like the shoes are grinding on something other than the drum itself. Also, when I press the pedal at the right amount of pressure at the right speed, I get a loud high pitched squeal as if there's a metal tab rubbing on the drum. I did this brake job with my dad about 6,000 miles ago (154xxx miles now) including the front pads. We did everything right and bled the brakes VERY thoroughly.
We used the same drums as before (however, we replaced the front disc rotors) and everything is how it should be. I even adjusted the shoes' pressure on the drum a bit to see if it would stop. Also, the squeal noise seems to be worse when I haven't driven the car for about 2 hours or in the morning when it's colder and the brakes haven't been used in several hours. What's causing these noises?
At 120K mi, had ALL the service work done. Changing the trans fluid as well as the 4WD differential was due. A noise in the rear diff began. So the mech said a Honda bulletin stated that this happens sometimes when changing the fluid. Ok. Changed it again. ANYWAY, the noise is still slightly there when going from a stopped position .... steering wheel all the way to one side or the other ... and giving the gas. IS THE REAR DIFF BEING DAMAGED?
View 2 RepliesI have a 2003 Honda Civic coupe that is making a interesting noise. When making a hard left turn with some speed, an intermittant rubbing noise is coming from the rear right tire and wheel. I cannot duplicate that noise turng right at any speed.
One more fact, the right rear and left front tires lose 5-10 psi of air a week. They were filled yesterday, so they should be around 30 psi still (door sticker recommendation). New tires put on last summer by previous owner- not sure if they were losing air at that rate before the new treads or not.
I plan on buying a used wheels to replace current ones to hopefully remedy the losing air situation!

View 4 RepliesI brought my prius v back to the dealer for the fourth time because of the groaning noise from the rear brakes. I was told that Toyota is aware of the problem and they are designing a new rear brake. They expect it to be ready for installation after January 1st, 2013. Let's hope it isn't too far after the first of the year.

A couple of hours later went into the garage to drop a trash bag and heard a humming/whirling sound from the garage. Walked around the Prius and isolated it coming from the bottom rear of the car. Went and got key, turned the car on, then off again and the noise ceased. What that was? Fuel pump maybe? And why did this occur?
View 2 RepliesHad my Accent nearly 5 months now and just in the last week there's a buzzing noise from near the right hand rear door when I use the key fob remote to unlock the doors. Has never made a sound before except for a click when the doors unlock.
Do these cars have a buzzer or is this the sign of impending doom coming from the unlocking solenoid in that door ?
My Accent is making a ticking sound in the rear passenger side. When I slow down it becomes a grinding sound. The car only has 19k. I have scheduled a appointment to get it looked at....
View 2 RepliesI recently bought a 2012 VW Jetta. My first German car, it has been both a really fun learning experience and (more often than not) a nightmare to work on. That said, I still am enjoying the car and intend to keep it for a while.
This past weekend, I took the factory wheels off to sand and paint them black, because I thought the car would look nice with black rims (and it was a lot cheaper than buying a whole new set!) Everything went well, I put them back on, and the car drives perfectly. Except it doesn't.
Now, I've got a noise coming from the rear passenger side wheel well. I'm not sure exactly what is causing the noise, and while I fancy myself a halfway decent Saturday Mechanic; I cannot diagnose or repair this problem myself. I have little to no experience working on drum brakes. All I know is this: the lug nuts are torqued, and the dealer has taken apart the brakes and informed me that nothing is broken or out of place. This cannot be the case - SOMETHING is making that clicking noise!
More information: it sounds JUST like the clicking noise you get when you forget to tighten your lug nuts and go for a drive, the rim moving around on the wheel studs and that noise it makes- this sounds exactly the same... The "click click click click" sound increases tempo as vehicle speed increases, and in volume when you very lightly apply the brakes and turn either direction. I don't know what to do, as usual, the closer I get to the dealership's service manager, the noise fades away.
I have a 2012 f150 supercrew ecoboost with 6,000 miles on it. I just took it into the dealer for a clinking noise from the rear end. It happens when shifting between D and R and during dowshifting at low speeds. They said that ford is aware of this noise but does not have a fix yet.
