Jeep - Grandcherokee :: 1999 - Won't Shift Into Gear?

I have a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo. Some of the gears are intermittently "sticking". When I get up to 60 m.p.h., it's supposed to shift into the next gear, but sometimes it won't and the vehicle starts lurching as it comes up against the "shifting wall". Other times it won't downshift, so I leave a stop light in 2nd or 3rd gear. The lurching only occurs for the gear at about 60 m.p.h., unless I put the gear selector into "2", then it sometimes lurches there too. Several mechanics, including a transmission specialist at a local Jeep dealership (who charged me for 2 hours of "diagnostic time"), couldn't determine what is wrong. I did a transmission fluid flush, but that didn't work.

Jeep - Grandcherokee :: High Idle Speed And Trying To Shift While At Highway Speeds

2004 Grand Cherokee. I was pulling a heavy trailer 1000 miles, and while coming down a mountain pass 50 miles from the end of the trip the check engine light came on. All other gauges (oil pressure, temperature, etc.) had not changed while climbing or descending and I was in low gear while descending to save the brakes. I drove the rest of the way to the destination without incident. I tried turning the Jeep off and restarting it several times to see if the check engine light would turn off and it stayed on. The next morning the light was off when I restarted it and has not come on again since. I hooked it up to a scan tool and received 2 codes: P0152 and P0132. 2 days later I noticed that it was revving high while idling and in Park. It would rev between 1500 and 2200 RPM while in Park, and at 900 RPM while in Drive. Also, while travelling at freeway speeds it seems like it's trying to downshift for no apparent reason. I hold the throttle still and have even tried cruise control and it intermittently increases engine speed, without changing ground speed. I assumed that I got the transmission too hot while climbing/descending and that the error codes listed above (related to O2 sensors) were associated with that, but now I'm wondering if something more has happened.

Jeep - Grandcherokee :: Hesitates When Going From First To Second Gear

My wife says our 2002 Grand Jeep Cherokee very rarely hesitates as it moves from first to second gear (once every week at most). I've never felt the problem, but she says its happens when from a dead stop into 2nd gear. And she said there are no other times when the vehicle hesitates (fine in every other gear). No other weird noises and the power seems fine. Its an automatic transmission and I've had the fluid and filter changed recently. What it is? Transmission? It is due for some new spark plugs... any chance it could be that?

Jeep - Grandcherokee :: 1998 Slow To Shift When Cold - Front Wheel Click On Hard Turns

I have a 1998 Gr Cherokee with an automatic tranny. It is slow to shift when cold and the overdrive shifting works reasonably well but I have been told by a reputable mechanic that the tranny needs a new tranny filter at over $1000. My latest check of the tranny fluid and the level and quality indicates both are good. Should I replace the tranny filter?

Also, for the same above vehicle, when I put the vehicle into a moderately hard turn (right and left), the front wheels audibly click and you can feel the click vibration in the steering wheel when happening.

Jeep - Grandcherokee :: Auto Transmission Won't Get Out Of 1st Gear - RPMs Can't Exceed About 29 Mph

2002 grand cherokee... Just took her in on Friday to have valve cover and oil pan leaks fixed, and within an hour of picking it up today the automatic transmission won't get out of 1st gear… rpms rising and can't exceed about 29 mph. Straight 6 engine. Any chance the mechanic messed something up, like a throttle cable or something, or is this just terrible karma?

Jeep grand cherokee 1999 stalls while driving. Replaced crankshaft sensor. Check engine light indicates oxygen sensor issue. After 5 to ten minutes car starts again, most of the time. When the car fails, engine cuts out and gas gauge points to empty. Only starts when the gas gauge functions properly. still having this problem.

I bought my jeep about a year ago, and have had major problems with the computer system. My car wouldn't start for days on end, and then one day would start right up. I just went ahead and replaced the whole computer, wiring, ect..and it ran fine for about 4-5 months. Once and a while the check engine light would come on, but nothing happened. Then one day my car died right in the middle of the street when I was driving it. All the lights in the dash go off and it just stalls.

Sometimes it starts back up immediately,and others I have to sit for a god 15 minutes. Sometime it'll do this 5-6 times in a day, others it won't do it at all. I noticed it does it more often when it's hotter outside. I got the check engine light checked (it comes on only once in a while) and the code said it was a cylinder 6 misfire. I took it into the shop and the checked my spark plugs and said they were fine, and they couldn't find anything. Could this be related to the new computer? What I should have checked on it?

It was running on 7 cylinders and had not been tuned in probably 50,000 miles or more. I recently bought it at auction. Changed spark plugs and 1 coil for the dead cylinder. Rear cylinder on passenger side was not firing. Compression test shows 150 psi that cylinder. Fairly loud mechanical pecking from that area which was isolated with a stethoscope. I suspect a flat cam lobe or broken rocker arm.

Jeep - Grandcherokee :: 1999 - Power Cuts Out When Driving?

1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo, 4.0 in line 6 Cyl misfires when driving. I bought this about 2 months ago (200,000 miles), and when i first got it it was acting like it was misfiring when driving above 60 mph( did get codes P0301 cyl 1 misfire, and P1391 CPS) . it started to act the same way just driving in my small town. so i ended up changing the ignition coil pack and changing spark plugs, i also replaced the CPS (camshaft position sensor). and was still acting the same way. I located a TSB that said there might be a carbon build up problem preventing valves from rotating and seating.

So I used seafoam and clean up the Top, and drove it in low gear at 4500 rpm for 15 seconds or so 6 times.. initially when doing this it was cutting out (jerking) when rpms got up there. after doing this twice with about 3 weeks in between never had a problem in town with it acting up running like it should from what i can tell..

Then i took a road trip, and a 60 mph was fine, 70 mph it was fine.. so i thought it fixed the issue and all good.. but about an hour into the drive it started acting up again.. unexpectedly cutting out for a second here and there, and usually when going up hill, and when got to destination about another 40 minutes, coming to a stop light i noticed it when stopping it was running pretty rough like it wanted to die out but never actually did. never got any more check engine lights either. I'm kinda at a loss at what the issue might be, and what i need to do to fix it as i really like the vehicle

My 99 grand cherokee's heater is broken - fan blows but only cold air. I've had two mechanics tell me its probably the blend doors and will be quite expensive to repair because it requires removal of dashboard. Looking for after market repair kit which allows for a DIY fix going through the glove box? Is this a good bet to try?

Jeep - Grandcherokee :: 1999 - Loud Howl That Gets Louder With More Acceleration

I own a rear-wheel-drive 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I recently had both rear axle seals and bearings replaced. At the same time I had the mechanic check U-joints, shocks, etc. The noise from the failing bearings is gone, but now I have a loud "howl" that gets louder the more I accelerate. If I take my foot off the accelerator, the sound is gone. As soon as I accelerate, the sound returns. It is barely noticeable at speeds less than 35 mph, but the howl gets increasingly louder as the speed increases.

I returned to the mechanic the same day I picked up the Jeep. We went on a road test and I was given a story about gears in the differential and that despite the noise everything was mechanically sound. Even though the sound was not present before the seals and bearings were replaced, the mechanic assured me that nothing is wrong. This howling is giving me a headache!

I have a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee that, upon starting in the morning, has a knocking noise coming from the front passenger-side wheel area. It only knocks when the car starts moving, and stops once I get up to 15-20 miles per hour. It ONLY does this when the car is cold. The noise does not occur throughout the day, only when I start it each morning. Is it something to do with the wheel bearing, but that does not seem to be the case.???

My 99 jeep grand Cherokee 4.7 v8 4x4 will not start after 2 to 3 short trips. it starts up fine in the morning when the engine is cold but driving for a while while and I stop somewhere and shut the engine down for a few minutes it will not restart.. after I wait 10 to 15 min it start up ok.. Next when I'm driving on the highway, after 10-20 mins of driving, the engine stalls for 5-10 secs. and fires back up..I inspected all connections and the starter which were ok but I did find that the starter is soaked with oil dripping from the valve covers.. Could the oil be the problem..? Even causing the stalling out on the highway..?

When I fill my tank with gas I get a very strong odor of gas throughout the vehicle, what do I need to check to fix this?

Also this one is weird, but everytime I make left turns ONLY, my Jeep does a down shift but stays in Neutral longer than it should but then kicks into gear by me taking my foot off the gas pedal and reapplying. I have a problem with my jeep grand Cherokee Laredo 5.2v8 losing oil pressure when the engine reaches normal operating temperature. the jeep sat for 2 years but we got it to run. when normal engine temperature occurs, the engine drops oil pressure and stalls. I have changed fuel pump,oil pump and oil pan gasket. also ran a cleaner through the engine. it doesn't matter if its winter or summer. the only way I can keep it running is to keep my foot on the gas pedal. if I don't do this the jeep stalls. a mechanic said it was the bearings. I don't believe this because there is no knocking noise when the engine is running. it has 103663 miles on it. it has just city and highway miles on it. never has been off road.
