My car had some knocking for maybe 6 months when I would accelerate. Today it started then cut off. I restarted it step on the gas now I have thick white smoke coming from the exhaust pipe. Previously when I thought it was a head gasket issues , I went in for a oil change they said no it was not a head gasket problem.

View 19 RepliesI have a 2005 Mitsubishi Endevour XLS w/23000 miles, when the car has been driven for long distances or especially after sitting in a hot parking lot all day, I cannot remove the ignition key. The car has been serviced by the Mitsubishi dealer three times for this, including the Endevour recall for this problem.
View 2 RepliesI was driving home today when I accelerated to go up a hill and started smelling something burning, pulled over and noticed my flex pipe was completely blown apart and the heat shield behind it smoking. I pulled over and got some water on it and it stopped but after I started driving again the smoke got even worse. This time it was something different than the first time. Could it be the heater core going or the foam inside the hvac system burning?
View 4 RepliesI have a 2008 Mitsubishi Endeavor with 308,000 miles on it and am on the return portion of a road trip with 700 miles to go and my car is driving terribly. I had my oil changed today and they used a high mileage oil, said that my filters were fine and I needed to do a tranny and power steering flush which I said I would do once I got home. My service engine soon light has been on and every so often while idling or slowing down my car would putter and act as if it would bail out but never actually die. When I ran the computer it said it was an issue with the o2 sensor but after put a fuel cleaner in the system, it always felt better.
Not today I drove about 900 miles Saturday, did a little bit of in town driving Sunday and it started to putter while idling but what was new was the surging during acceleration and the continual puttering or bumpy ride feeling when I'm at high speeds and 2000 - 3000 rpms. I'm in the middle of nowhere and after talking to Autozone, my mechanics and trying to self diagnosis online, I've been told that I need to indure the bumpy ride to get home but when I do, will need to figure out what with the o2 sensor needs fixing or Ill need new spark plugs or a new fuel pump. all that sounds good but the way my car is puttering feels terrible! there's no odor, leaks or sound ... it just feels like I'm going 80 miles an hour but I'm going to stall out at the same time.
I own a Lancer Evolution X and I've been having a strange issue where, when accelerating around 2500-3500 rpm a thick cloud of blueish smoke starts pouring from the exhaust for about a second or two accompanied by a loss in power. The smoke stops quickly and then it runs like normal. This only happens once in a while for a second or two. When idling there is no smoke. Or at Wot. There is no coolant mixing with oil. The oil was recently changed with the proper oil. and it still happens once in a while. I checked the turbo and there is no shaft play or oil inside of it. There is no loss of boost. Although I did see a tiny pool of oil near the turbo inlet and some more oil coating the inside of the intake pipe. is it possible that the turbo just sucks up some oil that collects at the end of the intake? the PCV line which connects to the intake appears to be letting some oil into the intake.
View 7 RepliesMy car was starting to over heat and I wasn't getting any heat thru the vents. Thermostat was replaced and so was the radiator cap. The coolant reservoir is still topped off, and doesn't seem to be getting sucked thru to the radiator. If I pour coolant directly into the radiator, car temp stays even, and heat eventually does come thru vents, better while driving. But, I still get steam/smoke coming from radiator cap. I cannot be buying and pouring coolant into the radiator everyday. I have a 99 Mitsubishi Eclipse with approx 140xxx miles...
View 19 RepliesI have a 2007 volkswagen passat 2.0 L...115000 miles. Yesterday I was entering the freeway and I accelerated the car a bit when I started hearing this noise on the engine. I will try my best and describe the noise as a knocking of metal on metal. I thought maybe is the oil and changed it.
Now today I was going up the hill and accelerated the car when the noise appeared again, it happened again a little bit later, again going up a hill. There is no noise when I drive normally or I accelerate and I am not going up a hill.
My mom was driving to pick me up and she said that all of a sudden about half way here that the car started making a knocking sound and white smoke started coming from hood, the car was also trying to shut itself down while she was trying to pull over. It is a 2000 ford taurus with like 130k. I am so scared that it is the head gasket because my mom, myself and my daughter, and my 16 year old sister all share that car to get around. Is there anything else it could be besides that or is that probably what it is?
View 19 Replies2005 Dodge Caravan - Driving to work this morning. Last mile of a ten-mile trip, there is a steep hill. As I accelerated the car began a rattling sound in the engine compartment. Never heard that before. Also, smelled like something burning. Rattling stopped after topping the hill, but would begin occasionally whenever moderately accelerating, then go away. Oil and temperature gauges read normal.
Got to work, and checked the fluids. At acceptable levels. At lunchtime, decided to try to drive it home. All quiet for the first mile and a half, then rattling started up again. This time, instead of just at moderate acceleration, it also sometimes rattled when coming to a stop or turning. At five miles I had to stop at a store to pick up something. Wasn't gone long, and when I started it back up and drove off, no rattling until about another mile down the road.
Four miles later, the rattling got worse and did not stop. I pulled into a parking lot just as the engine died and smoke poured out from under the hood. The hood release is broken, so it takes some time to pop it. By the time I got it open, the smoke was gone so I did not see where it was coming from. Could not see any obvious problems. Let it sit for five minutes, then it started right up. No noises, and couldn't see any issues while running.
Less than a mile from home, so I decided to go ahead and drive it. The van behaved until about two blocks from the house, then the occasional rattling began again. Made it into the driveway.
Sonata 2007 3.3L V6 ... I have nearly 70K on my Hyundai, and I am the original owner. Everything was fine until 24 hours ago until I got a knocking noise. I stopped, shut off the engine, and had it towed.
The mechanic says that based on the symptoms (knocking, some white smoke from exhaust) that it is powertrain warranty related, and I should be covered.
Once in a while, the car won't even attempt to start. All you hear is a click, then one or two more tries and the car starts. When idling the knocking can be heard, or when I push the gas the knock can be heard. I was once told it could be that the spark plugs are going bad and it is causing an issue with the pistons. Every so often the knocking will go away completely. Also with the car not starting it is not like you hear the car try to start, it is just a click and nothing else.
Mitsubishi/Montero Sport 3.0 L 2003 .....
I have a Manual 2003 Mitsubishi OZ Rally Lancer. She was sitting for awhile due to the main cylinder causing issues for the clutch, which is now fixed. But I noticed the other day that whenever I press the gas there's a tap noise for a second and goes away, it happens every time I put my foot on the gas. The sound is like someone tapping there foot on tile floor. I can also feel the tap noise.
I'm not sure what it could be. I know the passenger front tire is tinking when I drive around, which I'm getting fixed this afternoon, but what could be causing this noise when I accelerate and how urgent would it need to be fixed?
Few days ago I noticed the noise coming from the engine.
Went to dealership. They removed the oil pan and found metal shavings there .The car has 90,000 miles. They will put a new short block (will be covered by warranty ).
Since they basicaly will disassemble the whole engine, I thought to ask them to replace also drive belts, timing chain tensioner, not sure if the short block comes with the water pump , will ask them . W
I replaced my struts and shocks a few weeks ago and i installed lowering springs H&R. Yesterday i started hearing this knocking thumping noise coming from the right front of the car me and my uncle took the wheel off today and looked around and everything was nice and tight we proceed to both push down on the right corner of the car to have it bounce up and down and we heard the same knocking sound coming from the right front area it sounds almost as if the strut blew out in the front right would the symptoms i described concur with the front strut being blown out, and on a side note the struts are only a few weeks old is this even possible since the struts are so new? I do have 20" rims on the car with low profile tires could i have hit a pothole hard enough to cause the strut to blow out? Iam planning on taking a trip to the dealer tomorrow and have them check it out.

I've been hearing knocking and rattling sounds coming from the left tire whenever I go over a rough patch of road or even a speed bump, between slow to moderate speeds. It's currently bearable, but it gets irritating at times and it seems to be getting louder. What is the cause of these noise and how I can rectify it? I wish to get rid of it.
View 5 RepliesFor the last year or so i have been annoyed severely by a clunking knocking sound from the rear (possibly passenger side) of the car. The noise occurs when there is torsion occurring or a sudden change of direction. I can go over a huge speed bump or pothole and not hear a thing yet the slightest change in direction or torsion will cause this extremely annoying heavy metal clunking knocking sound. I tightened every suspension system related screw in the rear of the car and the noise is still present.
The car is lowered on H&R springs (approx. 1.4 drop) so im wondering if maybe there is an additional stress that has been torturing the sway bar links for the last 3 years causing this noise. Or could it be the shocks (which are working properly)?
I have a 2010 lancer evolution, intermittently under light to no acceleration the car emits a large cloud of blue-grey smoke from the exhaust accompanied by noticeable oil consumption. This only happens when in 5th or 6th gear or when it changes from 5th to 6th. It only seems to happen when accelerating onto the highway or when going up an incline in a high gear. It only ever lets out smoke when under 2500rpm, never above 2500 and only for a second or two. if I downshift to 5th while this is happening, it stops. I'm at a loss as to why its burning oil.
View 14 RepliesI recently purchased Sonata NF 2006, with L4 engine with 108 miles on it. I noticed that mpg is very low - 16-17 50/50 city and highway. The engine runs smooth and pretty fast for 4 cylinder engine, there is no smoke coming from the exhaust. While driving with A/C on i did not notice any pressure on generator or anything like that.
View 10 RepliesCar has been running rough for a few days. Last night my engine light came on p0017. Called the dealer and they couldn't get it in until Monday. They said if the light wasn't flashing just bring it in then. So I disconnected the battery for a few minutes and the car started much smoother and the light went off. Drove into the city and once I got to my destination the light came back on and the car was running rough again. Decided to finish up and head home. However once I got in to make the drive home I could now hear a rattle when I accelerated coming from the engine. Then the oil light would come on every time I hit the gas to accelerate. I made it home as slow as possible but when I checked the oil it's not even reading on the dip stick and the dip stick smells burnt. No oil on the floor, oil filter and plug shows no leaks. I have noticed the past few weeks that my exhaust tips are dirtier than usual and black drops were all over the rear bumper and back of the trunk. Could this thing really have blown out that much oil. I just changed the oil less tHan 1000 miles ago.
