When I have to brake suddenly, at about 35 miles an hour, I begin to get strong vibrations in the steering wheel and the same in the brakes. After 35 miles an hour (and prior to this speed), it's relatively smooth. I'm also starting to notice an unevenness in my tires. I've gotten it checked out and was told that my brakes still have wear, but there was a little "warping."

View 6 RepliesI went out for a drive this morning to play in the snow before taking the car in for an alignment and oil change. Something strange happened. Just after I got to my destination, a snow covered round-about, I started feeling a vibration in through the steering wheel. I pulled to a stop because I hadn't hit anything, and didn't think my wheels had packed with snow and gone out of balance. Even when stopped the vibration was still there. I did a bit of investigating and found it to be that having the heater on full blast was the source of the vibration. Adjusting the fan speed one step slower reduced the vibration, and two steps down from full speed the vibration went away. It seemed most noticeable with the defrost and foot well vents functioning together, but happened on any vent setting.

I've got about 10k miles on my Pirellis and am thinking that all the winter driving (potholes) have knocked them out of balance. The VW dealer claims they balance fine, but I can feel the vibrations. Just wondering how everyone else is liking their stock set up.. Maybe a wheel has a slight bend? Nothing I can notice from a quick glance tho.

View 5 RepliesNoticed seat vibrations when fully stopped? My 2013 has a sweet spot where the needle hits *just barely* under 750rpm when stopped at a light or something, where it doesn't vibrate at all. Anything even a smidgen over or under that and the seats and sometimes even the steering wheel vibrate. It's pretty random. One set of lights and I'm vibrating, the next set of lights not far down the road and no vibrations.
Also when I'm idling or stopped and I want to roll a window up or down, the whole car will shake, RPMs will dip a bit too.
I have a 2009 Corolla LE. I've had these issues since buying the car last year. Issue #1 : when initially accelerating from a stop through 1st and 2nd gears, there's a slight vibration felt through the steering wheel and vehicle. If it's just a gentle acceleration it typically doesn't aggravate the issue as much as a quicker acceleration. Issue #2 : This car is very sensitive to varying types of road conditions. One patch of road can seem smooth as silk. Then another patch will feel rough and bumpy. The road appears to have no bumps or imperfections. I just put brand new tires on the other day, and its still doing this. And I feel all of the road imperfections the most through the steering wheel. I'll briefly take my hands off the steering wheel to see if I feel it in the cabin, and its not as bad as it is through the steering wheel.
View 9 RepliesMy 05 F150 with 107k miles becomes increasingly noisy.... From speeds about 15mph up to 50mph there is a humming noise from the front wheels, clearly audible during coast. It sounds almost like tire noise, low frequency with a clear tone (not rumble) and gets worse in LH turns / better in RH turns. The frequency follows the speed.
I also can feel vibrations in the steering wheel. It's not the tires, I changed them without any impact. Checked wheel bearing play - seems OK. The locking hubs are stuck in locked position, with quite some play between the hub and the driveshaft at the RH front wheel (have not checked the LH front wheel yet), seems weird...
Where should I start to look, - wheel bearings or locking hubs? And more important, we plan a 1500 mls trip to Germany - do I dare to drive the truck? What is the worst thing that could happen if wheel bearing or locking hub?
I've got a GTI with a lot of engine vibrations, and I'm not sure if it's something to worry about or even if it's somewhat normal. I have 23,000 miles, Stage II for most of that. My motor ticks obviously but they all do. The idle is smooth (mostly, the needle never fluctuates it's idling at a specific RPM perfectly) but I feel little hiccups and inconsistencies in my steering wheel at a stop light.
Could this be bad motor mounts? Could this be a valvetrain issue? Is there any way to debug this?
I first noticed the issue (it might have been happening beforehand, but never noticed it) after getting my 20k dealer service. Until then I was changing my oil and filter every 6k with motul specific 5W-40. Could they have used a different weight of oil that might simply be changing the way the motor feels?
It seems the idling vibration characteristics of my motor have changed, and I'd like to fix the issue if one exists to prevent future damage to the motor.
I have a 2013 f350 4x4 diesel. I bought used with 80,000km on it. Started getting a bad vibration in the steering wheel around 80km/h. went too ford and replaced the track bar ball joint and steering stabilizer. After that the truck drove perfect. The next day I went and put on my new rims and tires (used tires) 20" rims with 35x12.5 r20 amp m/t tires. They used beads too balance tires. I left the tire shop and the wobble was back, I went right back too the tire shop and they took the tires and rims off too inspect more and found that one tire had kind of a flat spot and uneven wear.
So they put it on the back as too take away a little bit of the vibration, idea is too wear down that bad tire till the flat spot is gone, when I'm driving it at highway speeds it wobbles a little bit and those goes away and then comes back every 20 seconds or so, will this go away or do I need too replace that tire, buddy of mine told me too do a little burnout and maybe even out the tire a little bit but amazingly that didn't work...or could something else be wrong? Factory tires were 275/65/r20 That I had on before. Also the worst vibration is at 80km an hour but like i said it comes and goes. Will it get better?

Some owners of certain F-Super Duty 250/350 4x4 vehicles have experienced severe steering and front wheel vibrations and oscillations after traveling over a bump or dip in the road. As a result of a study with NHTSA regarding shimmy, Ford sent a Customer Maintenance Reminder letter to owners back in March of 2009. In addition, Ford agreed to send reminder letter to owners.
Although there is no service action required by the dealer, customers will be informed if after setting the tire pressures on their truck to the Ford specified levels, they believe the vehicle needs additional service, to contact their local Ford dealer. Letters will be mailed starting the week of 12/09/13 and may result in increased customer service inquiries.
This front end steering wheel wobbling and sometimes outright jerking is really annoying. Only happens at around 45mph, usually decelerating or coasting from a higher speed. Doesn't happen at low speeds, doesn't happen over 50. Doesn't happen when braking.
Took wheels off, tires are fine. Rotated smooth, tires about 2 years old, even tread wear, not bad. Small amount of play on driver's side front when I grab wheel. I guess this means I might have to replace that wheel bearing? Friend keeps insisting it's a warped tire. I just don't see that. No loose play in ball joint, bushings, tire rod, etc.
I guess I'll take wheel off again and check rotors. There's a little rust build up on outer ring. But it's not doing it when braking. Perplexed!
I guess I'll have wheel balance checked, but I switched the R to F out (and even tried old tires mounted on wheels switched out from my old 940). Didn't seem to make a difference, but that was several months ago.
I have a Volvo XC90 2.4 D5 2004. But none of the buttons on the steering wheel are working - not volume for radio, not cruise control.
Symptoms are following:
* buttons on the steering wheel are lighted up
* buttons on the steering wheel are not working, none of them
* horn is not working
I have checked internet over and over and have 3 conclusions, what might be faulty:
1) steeling wheel lining/wire/connections - but in this case they would work periodically and the buttons would not be lighted up;
2) steering wheel module (swm) - in this case also the turn signals would not work and also the headlight would be faulty;
3) clockspring - in this case the airbag light should light up in dashboard.
2001 V70 Volvo Wagon 114k miles... The following in order has been done so far in the last 3 months mostly because the mechanic who did everything besides the mounts takes forever.
Rotors & pads
Replaced axle shaft
Oil & new air filter
Replaced steering wheel pump #1 - with new liquids
Replaced steering wheel pump #1 with #2
Replaced steering wheel pump #2 with #3
Supposedly checked the rack & pinion
New hoses for the steering wheel pump
Alternator replaced
All front, right and rear engine mounts have been replaced
I am about to literally come out of my skin with the subtle vibration that comes through the steering wheel, seat and floor on the drivers side. When I put my hand on the shifter I don't feel the vibration nor when riding on the passengers side. I have to stay that the car sounds like an old Singer sewing machine too, not the smooth engine sound that I had before all the repair work. There is also a very slight lag when starting off and a grown that comes from under the dash to the right of the steering wheel when in reverse and turning. My regular volvo mechanic says that the car is worn but I should keep it anyway.
105K miles, developing a groaning noise when turning steering wheel during low speeds and stopped. Can feel slightly through steering column. No other problems, no clunking or any grinding noises, just "groaning" sound on initial movement. Fluid is full. While searching fix, I found this article on the C70 model, sounds like I might have same thing on my XC90. [URL] ....
View 6 RepliesI now have 14500 miles on my R and took it to the dealer Monday because the brakes are shaking the steering wheel again. After I had my R for 3 months and a little over 2000 miles it was taken in with this problem and the dealer turned the rotors. Everything was fine for about 3 more months and now had 5000 miles the brakes started to shake and grind real bad. I took it in again and this time the rotors were replaced. It was good till a month ago and they started to screach when I stopped and shake the steering wheel when I touched the brakes. So this is the 3rd time I have had brake problems and 2nd time the rotors need to be replaced. They can't tell me why this is happening. I was asked if I do a lot of hard driving, and I told them that I average almost 25 mpg and you don't get that driving super hard. I drive 76 miles round trip to work and all but 4 miles is highway with only 3 stop signs so it is easy to average that. I don't know how long the warranty will keep covering rotors if they can't find the cause. I love my R but I am not going to pay $700 - 800 or more for new rotors every 8000 miles.
View 21 RepliesI got my Phaeton, certified pre-owned, at 23k miles. Until 45k the brakes were flawless. Steering felt solid, no vibration or feeling of shaking of any kind when the brakes were depressed.
At 45k, I got the telltale "squeak" while depressing the brakes. I took the car in, was recommended to replace all corners, pads and rotors. The replace brakes message did not appear but I was pretty sure it was coming.
So I performed the recommended service at my local, Phaeton certified, VW dealer.
Here I am, 4k miles later, I am getting a vibration in the wheel while pressing the brakes. It seems to have gotten worse from 3k to 4k post-service. Also I hear and feel a "rubbing" noise while reversing that seems to respond to the brake pedal. Almost as if the brakes are engaged while reversing even while I'm not pressing the pedal.
I've had several other cars with warped rotors and the vibration in the wheel would lead me to believe that may be the case here. In my other cars this has only gotten worse with time. So I am contemplating discussing with the service manager to see what can be done. I drive the Phaeton quite gently, not aggressive at all.
When i put on the brakes the steering wheel shakes and pulsates. Iam getting mixed info. One person I know said it is the brakes (front), another person said i need the alignment checked. yet another said Rotors, and still another said back brakes.... When i touch the brakes the whole van pulsates and the steering wheel shakes.
View 3 RepliesI have a Santa Fe 2010 2.4 awd 6AT with 20000km, I live in Ushuaia, Argentina, here the use of salt is normal in winter (a lot of salt). I have one winter and the second is coming with this SUV. Today I was in a road at 120km/h (75mph) and I had to apply brakes. In that moment I noted a little vibration on the steering wheel. After release brake pedal, the vibration disappeared. I checked again with same results, is been posible that my brake discs could be damaged or something is wrong with the brake system? I didn't have any light of malfunction. What is the normal life of brakes discs and pads in a santa fe with normal use?
View 13 Replies2013 Nissan Sentra, 2.0L 62,000 miles. Sometimes when I apply the brakes, the steering wheel shakes. It usually happens on the highway when slowing down from speeds above 40mph. I thought that it might be the rotors, but it doesn't happen all the time. The severity of the shaking also differs from time to time.
