Eye Shingles - Nothing Helps

Sep 5, 2015

About 5 weeks ago my right eye started to feel extremely painful to the point I ended up to A&E, The diagnosis was that I had a cornea cut and I was given some eye cream, over the following couple of days things go much worse, again back to A&E and still cornea cut, finally I was able to go to an Optometrist who quickly told me that the cream I was given were absolutely no help as I had Eye Shingles, and she prescribed VIRGAN,she also made a follow up appointment as I am half blind (left eye)..... 2 weeks passed and started to feel better, however follow up app and apparently shingles were still there. I was given tablets against the viral infection.....now after 10 days I feel it has gone worse where I am unable to look in the light at all and I am at a loss..... I would go back to the Optometrist on Monday but losing faith and not sure what else they can do as obviously I am pretty much at a loss (no punt intended).... anyone has had experience with eye shingles and what were the best "products" provided?

Shingles From Someone With Shingles - Spread?

Hello! I am a 34 year old woman who has just been diagnosed with shingles. I have had them for about a week and am quite uncomfortable, but not miserable. I have had some stomach pains for a few days that I believe are associated.

One problem I have is in all the information on the net and from doctors they stress the point "you can NOT get shingles from someone with shingles"... well, I disagree. My mother is a non-hodgkin's lymphoma patient who was diagnosed with shingles about two weeks ago. I live by her and help her and I find it hard to believe my shingles didn't come from being exposed to her!

Just wanted to let others know.

Yogurt Helps When Applied To Sunburn?

My six year old daughter has suffered from a bad sunburn and I feel dreadful. I realize it is absolutely my fault that it happened, but we having fun at the beach and we forgot the time. I really didn't notice how red she was until much too late.

At the moment it is sore and hot to the touch and she's in pain.

Now I have heard some stories about things that might help. The only thing I have in the house right now is Greek yoghurt. I don't want to run off to the pharmacy because I would rather take care of it right now.

Cannabis Helps My Neuropathic Pain

I was diagnosed with peripheral polyneuropathy 11 years ago. I take 300mg lyrica/day 60mg duloxetine/day and now they want me to take an opiate nucynta to manage my pain since I have trouble with pain. I live in California and recently got my MM license and obtained some Charlotte's web which is suppose to help with pain. Helps a little but pain killers work better. A friend of mine had me smoke some pot by way of vaporizing and it actually took my pain spike away for about 5 hours. Has anyone experienced this before? I'm afraid of what vaporizing cannabis could do to my health. However I feel like I actually have found a way to reduce my intake of meds and much more affordable.

Pinching Your Lip Helps To Stop Leg Cramps?

Years ago (on Woman's hour I think) I heard that strongly pinching your lip helps to stop a cramp.

I know that there is no scientific evidence for such a form of treatment but it certainly works with me and several other people I have suggested it too.

Since it is likely to be harmless it seems to work on at least some people it would seem worth suggesting and even one day doing a proper trial on more patients.

Certainly as good as most other suggested forms of treatment

Gabapentin :: Helps Acquired Nystagmus?

I was prescribed 300mg to be taken at night of Gabapentin for acquired nystagmus. I have been diagnosed with severe bilateral vestibular lose and in conjunction with nystagmus, I've developed oscillopsia. My GP recommended Gabapentin as a means to possibly settle down nystagmus. Has anyone had experience with this or any advice to share in how long it takes to understand if it does or does not work. I'm only couple days so experiencing some side effects such as headaches and dizziness but I assume this will pass.

Quitting Smoking :: Wellbutrin Helps

I am a 60 yr old woman and I have smoked for roughly 35 yrs. I have attempted to quit at least 3-4 times seriously. I've always had the horrible cravings even when using patches etc. this time I had my mind made up to do it finally and I just happened to be taking 300 mg of Wellbutrin at the time and I had actually forgotten that this could be helpful. I asked my dr to call in a prescription for the patches which he did. Anyway to say that it was easy is an understatement. You can imagine then my surprise to find out after using the 2nd box of patches that I had been using just the 7 mg patches all along. It Had to be the Wellbutrin that made the difference !! I was very surprised but extremely happy to become a Non-smoker !! It's been 10 months and I have no cravings. and I feel great ! I would gladly promote the Wellbutrin to any current smokers that really want to quit. I have put on a few pounds but that is well worth it to be able to live long enough to see my great grandchildren someday I hope and pray !!!

Quitting Smoking - Acupuncture Helps

I think Many people don't know that acupuncture is a great tool to help you stay away from cigarettes. Needles will not make you quit, but they will help you stay on track. Acupuncture will help by lessening withdrawal symptoms. These symptoms are (not limited to): stress, anxiety, insomnia, restlessness, and emotional distress.

Physical Therapy Helps Sciatica?

I've had great success with PT for various muscle groups on the past. But sciatica is neurological. Can PT fix my nerves? Or will it alter where the nerves "run" by shifting muscle strength?

Just hard for me to believe PT can address tingly pain (which I have in right buttocsk and down leg).

Does MRI (which I've had plus x-rays) indicate if PT is a viable option vs. shots or....?

Should 5 PT sessions be enough to tell if PT will do the trick or not?

L-arginine Helps Prinzmetal Angina?

I have Prinzmetal angina.  My first attack was when I was 44 but not diagnosed until I was 51.  I just recently found out i have eNOS T786C mutation which most likely is causing the vasospasm.  I'm curious if anyone else has been diagnosed with this mutation.  A doctor that is doing research on Prinzmetal patients recommends taking L-arginine.  Anyone else take this supplement?  If so has it helped?  I have never had an EKG during an attack and was wondering if ST segment elevation is ALWAYS present on an EKG during spasm?

Alternative To Mirtazapine Which Helps Sleep?

I have an appointment with the doctor next week to discuss possibly changing to a different AD. I love mirtazapine in every way but for the weight gain. I need to lose a stone and am dieting. I have lost 2 lbs in a week, but if I can't sustain it, I need to change drugs. Last time I tried to come off mirtazapine I suffered terrible nausea and insomnia (I tend to sleep badly in any case but mirtazapine has really helped). Can anyone suggest a different AD that really helps with sleep but does not cause weight gain? I don't get on with SSRIs.

Prostate Swelling :: Garlic And Ginger Helps

One thing that I have noticed; a pattern in my prostate problems. Although, I am 64 years old; I enjoy lifting weights and I always like to do a very vigorous routine that attempts to build bulk. When I go all out , I notice my prostate get so swollen, it wakes me up at night and I can not sleep and it effects my urination. You know can not void completely, Retention.  But I did notice if I weight lift regularly, the only thing that keeps the prostate from swelling is a certain kind of diet.  I start out by cutting up garlic a small slices, raw . Then I slice up red onions, than I slice up raw ginger  I mix it up and eat if with a small amount of dressing; very small.  I notice if I do that my swollen prostate subsides and even I start feeling a sensation in my penis and am able to experience an erection. It is a hard diet to follow; because you always have a garlic odor and the vegetables are all rather bitter. But it works.  If I do this ; coffee does not seem to bother me, and I am able to urinate sort of regularly although I do still retain urine in my bladder. I try to cut out bread at any time because I notice even if I lift; I gain weight and stomach fat within a week and it continues. It is difficult to do; to avoid bread; with no carbohydrates; it is rather uncomfortable but it works. Tell me what you think.

Polymyalgia Rheumatica And GCA :: Walking Helps You Get Rid Of The Pain?

How is it that most of you say walking helps you get rid of the pain?  If I walk for 20-30 mins I have pain which takes ages to clear up - sometimes into the next day, or even the day after (and it has since the PMR started).  Exercise is good for you!  OK, I know that, but what do you do if you get more and more pain by doing it?
