Mirena IUD :: Cramping And Pain - Should Removed?

I am 21 years old and I have been on birth control since I was a teen. I started out on the pill because I was experiencing very bad cramping that resulted in me missing many days of school per month. The pill worked fine for about four years but then I started getting bad cramps all over again. I went to my doctor and he prescribed a different birth control pill for me but that pill, and every other pill they put me on after that, made me nauseous and sick. I decided to stop taking birth control all together and just just used condoms but my cramps where just to unbearable and my cycles became long (i'm talking like two weeks, heavy flow). So after about a year of not being on birth control I went to a new obgyn who suggested I try the nuvaring. Well the NuvaRing didn't work either. First I had burning inside my vagina, then I had crazy liquid like discharge and lastly I was nauseous every morning. But, I only had it in for a couple of days, so I don't know if I actually gave it enough time to work properly. Soon after I received a lot of pressure from my mother to get the iud because her worst fear in the world is for me to get pregnant and I just moved far away from home so she worries a lot. I went to my doctor while on my period to get the Mirena put in, he tried to talk me out of it but I refused. He asked did I want to try the shot or the implant but I was reluctant to the shot because of the associated weight gain and I didn't want the implant because my mother had problems with it. Getting the Mirena put in was so painful, I guess since I have never been pregnant but it wasn't what people described. I literally thought I was going to die for about two days. I ended up become really dehydrated and lost my appetite for about a week. I have had the IUD in for a little over a month now but I've have issues. Issue #1, I cramp almost everyday. The cramping isn't as long as regular period cramping but it's equally as painful. It feels like someone is stabbing me in my right side for about 10-15mins. I went to my doctor after the first week to see if it was still in the right place and he determined that it was and I just had bad luck. Issue #2: I have been spotting for about two weeks now. Issue #3, The string poked my spouse for the first time today and I wasn't very happy. I'm very angry and stressed out. I feel like this is totally bull because I am going through the same stuff I was going though before I got the IUD. I was reading online about how the cramps should go away after about six months but what about the strings? I don't want this to ruin my sex life but then again I don't need any unexpected pregnancy right now. Some women have said that cutting the string helps but I am fearful that the IUD will get lost. I am so scared and don't know what to do. I know for sure that I don't want kids right now but I don't want this thing ruining my chances of ever having children. I need some advice, Please Help. I want to know if I should get the IUD taken out and if so, should I try another form of birth control like the shot or the implant? Or should I give the Mirena a couple more months? I've noticed that the stings seems shorter since my period stopped. Could that be caused by my period? I'm thinking that maybe the strings will become longer and my spouse won't feel them anymore. I don't know what to do.

Birth Control :: Removed Mirena Myself

I removed my Mirena IUD on Monday night. I hadn't had a period at all since i had it in last year. i had a couple days of cramping but that has seemed to be gone. Last night I started having light but thick brown discharge. Is this normal? What signs of a problem Should I watch for? I did it but then I've been worried because I read it can cause problems if taken out by myself. If there was no bleeding at the time I didn't cause any damage did I? When should u expect a period?

Birth Control :: Mirena (IUD) Removed - Pelvic And Sex Pain

After a year of pelvic pain and pain during sex I had my mirena removed today.  I had one ultrasound done at my gp doctors office, a year ago when the pain during sex started, that stated my iud was seen within my endometrium and extending into my lower uterine segment.  My gp, that obvious isn't familiar with iuds at all, wasn't sure whether or not this meant it was embedded.  So I went to my gyno who did an ultrasound and said it was in place.   I've had 4 ultrasound showing small cyst over the past year but nothing to really explain my pelvic pain.   My gyno has been suspects endometriosis. Today I visited my gyno again with increasing pelvic pain and pain during sex mainly focusing on my left side.  I had an ultrasound that showed 4 small functional cyst on my left side and one on my right but no real cause for the pain.  So I asked to have my iud removed because I feel like I have to eliminate that as a possible cause before I could ever consider laparoscopy to check for endo.

The removal hurt. I hand multiple sharp pains and I felt popping while he was pulling my strings but it did come out.  After ward the iud had clear-yellowish stringy tissue attached to the top and bottom of the middle cylinder of the iud.  Does this sound like it was slightly embedded or is it normal. And if it does sound like it was slightly embedded is there anything I should watch out for or suspect post-removal?

Coeliac Disease :: When Did You Begin Eating Gluten Free?

since my son was born a couple of years ago, I have been to several doctors appointments with depression, lethargy and several other symptoms, that had gotten to a point that I felt I couldn't cope anymore.  At first the doctor thought it was postnatal depression and then thyroid, but on my second blood test, when she tested for almost everything she could, my blood test came back strongly for coeliac, and as always very low iron levels.  That was back in February, four weeks ago at my endoscopy, on leaving, the nurse said the procedure had shown suggestions of coeliac and disease, they had taken biopsies, and not to start on a gluten free diet as other tests would need to be taken. As I was a bit out of it at the time due to the sedation, I forgot to ask what other tests they would be doing? could anyone let me know what they went through after the biopsy in regards to further tests.  I am feeling so low and desperate to start the diet, and wait eagerly for the post everyday.  I have to go in for surgery for another problem possibly at the end of June, and I am wondering if just to start now, as I really want to feel stronger for that.  Thank you for listening in advance.

Gastroscopy And Colonoscopy With Sedation PLEASE DON'T WORRY

I thought I'd let you know about my experience of a gastroscopy and colonoscopy with sedation yesterday. I found this web site two days before my procedure and found it really useful.

I was told that I would have to have a gastroscopy and colonoscopy about three weeks ago and I've been so so worried about it ever since. I have a phobia about being sick so the thought of someone sticking a camera down my throat filled me with dread  ....all that retching HELP!

Anyway I got to the hospital and after a short wait a really friendly nurse called me through to an assessment room. She asked me all the usual health questions. I explained to her that I was so anxious and was really worried about the retching and being sick. She explained that there might be some retching as this is the natural protection process to stop you choking.

The nurse said what might help is the anaesthetic throat spray. She also said that the camera had a little suction tube on it so if there was any fluid in your stomach they could suck it away. I asked if they could give me enough sedation to make me sleep, she said that they are only allowed to use so much, but I would be nice and relaxed and may fall asleep.

I was then asked to change into one of those groovy hospital gowns. The Doctor then came to speak to me and went through the consent form. I told him my fears, he was very sympathetic. He then asked me to walk to the endoscopy room. The doctor asked me if I wanted the throat spray, I said yes please! He told me that the spray may make me feel that there was a lump in my throat but I would still be able to breath and swallow normally. He then put a cannula in my arm and tried to put my mind at rest, he then asked me to lie on my left side. The nurse said she had to put a little sponge in my nose, this gave me oxygen. Also she had to put a tube in my mouth this was a type of mouth guard. The Doctor said that he would now be giving the sedation.

I felt myself relax, the next thing I knew the gastroscopy bit was over and they were nearly finished with the colonoscopy bit, with one of the nurses holding my hand. That was quite interesting as I could watch the screen (if I wanted), there was just one slight bit of discomfort, then I was taken back the to recovery area. The nurses said that I had tolerated both procedures really well. I was so relieved that I could not remember any of the gastroscopy...not even one retch :D ! The nurses then brought me tea and biscuits and shortly after was allowed to go home. I just wished I hadn't worried so much, so I hope you don't either!

I would like to thank the Endoscopy staff at DCH for looking after me so well.

Don't Worry Women - Flexible Cystoscopy

I had a flexible cystoscopy for the first time yesterday as my GP keeps finding a trace of blood showing on urine tests & I have frequency of urination. I was nervous beforehand - not helped by a wait of over 2 hours - and could find little information as to what the procedure is like for a female. I want to say to all ladies about to undergo this procedure please don't worry. It is no worse than a smear test and a trip to the dentist is far worse in my opinion!

I had no sensation of the scope being inserted due to the numbing gel, no pain whatsoever, and only a momentary twinge of discomfort as the scope was rotated. I've had no bleeding or discomfort urinating afterwards and feel fine. I think this procedure may be worse for the men!

It was interesting to see the inside of my bladder & to be reassured that there was nothing wrong. The trace of blood is normal for some people and the frequency is possibly hormonal.

Vertigo :: Dizzy Spells - When To Worry?

I have been suffering with dizziness for quite a while now, it all started with headaches then I'd get really dizzy, I had a ct scan and all was well however after the birth of my second son in April this year I was laying on the sofa I went to get up and I couldn't focus on anything, I was so dizzy it was unreal, I went to emergency docs who said it was labyrinthitis and prescribed some tablets which didn't really work! Ever since then I have been so dizzy, I have seen ent and they said all is good nothing to worry about but why do I keep feeling like this? I could be sat at home doing nothing and it just comes over me I go all lightheaded and then I start to sweat and panic that I'm going to pass out its horrible, just walking around sometimes I go dizzy and feel all funny I don't know what to do anymore, I've had bloods etc and all normal I just want to know why I feel so terrible all the time.

Female Cystoscopy Experience - Don't Worry

I had a Cystoscopy yesterday afternoon. I've known for about a month that I would have to have one and I have been worried sick about it. Found some awful posts on the net about it, and then fortunately found many reassuring posts on this forum! Trust me that when the ladies on here say "Don't worry"....DON'T! I've been so anxious, that I've lost sleep and my appetite over it. I was in and out of Theatre in 7 minutes!  I asked my husband to time it as I knew I wanted to do a review on here to help others, as it has been this forum that got me through it yesterday!

You are in the position for a smear test for the procedure. Knees bent and apart and feet flat and together on the couch. So no stirrups (which I was glad about, as I hate that restriction, and I had expected that!) First they swab the area down, then insert the local anaesthetic. That just feels slightly cold, but not uncomfortable or painful. Then the camera is inserted, and again, that didn't hurt either. The nurse holding my hand told me it was in and then let me watch on the monitor. Whilst the camera is in, the surgeon fills your bladder with water so that he can see it all clearly. Within a couple of minutes, it's all done! I honestly wouldn't even say it was uncomfortable. You are aware something is going on, but certainly no pain. And if the surgeon told me he was going to do another Cystoscopy on me, I wouldn't lose a moments sleep over it!  I was given a cup of tea after the procedure, and sat and rested for a while, and once I had passed urine the nurses discharged me from the ward. I've been passing urine normally and it hasn't even stung, so I guess I've been lucky. I had no pain until a couple of hours after the procedure, when I guess my anaesthetic had worn off. It was just like Period Pain. I took a couple of Paracetamol and it eased off, and today I am fine.

Genital Herpes Simplex (HSV) - Nothing To Worry - 80% Population Has It

I have been reading all week on this topic and I think we all need to become nuns and monks if we never want to catch the horrible disease. Some say wear condoms to protect ourselves some say condoms won't completely stop the virus because of any skin contact . Then there's the viral shedding to constantly worry about when and if we have it. Also we may never get sores but be a carrier.

I have been tested and have HSV2 I only ever get 1 tiny bump that comes up a few times.

I've been worrying about it so much lately that if I worry anymore it will probably be there all the time. Stress they say causes outbreaks. Well with all the information i've read you wouldn't want to be with anyone or ever have sex again and become ocd.

I have however read some really positive stories that gives me some kind of reassurance.

So i'm not worrying anymore about this it's not a death sentence we all probably have it as statistics say 80% of the population do.

I just read a post recently and the poor girl was asking what if I kiss my partner and I had a cold sore signal tingling and he gives me oral sex then I kiss him after and so on and on ffs when does it end with worry!

We could be wiped out tomorrow with a outbreak of some deadly virus

Just live your lives as best you can and be happy for each day you have with loved ones.

I'm not worrying anymore about this.

Heart Rhythm :: When To Worry About PACs/PVCs?

I've been experiencing a flare-up in my ectopics recently.

My heart is healthy (I had an EKG and an echo done two months ago when my ectopics started to bother me again). I don't know if what I'm experiencing now is PACs or PVCs (none were found on my EKG) but earlier I had only PACs. I would assume that most of my ectopics are PACs.

I know that stress and anxiety is a major trigger, and what often happens is that I'm having one ectopic, I'm trying not to worry about it, then I have another one and I get a major rush of adrenaline, which makes the ectopics go wild and I'm having 5-15 a minute for a while (15-20 minutes) and suddenly they just go away.

The sensation is quite variable from event to event, sometimes I get the throat fullness sensation followed by a thump, sometimes it feels like my heart stops and then a thump, sometimes I just feel some fluttering in my chest for a second or two. I'm worrying about the latter as I fear it's a run of ectopics.

The problem is, I KNOW that premature beats are benign but still I can't stop worrying. It's like a fear of fear, because I fear that the ectopics will ruin my life.

I'm taking 100 mg Metoprolol (and some Propranolol as needed) and it takes the edge off my ectopics, but it's not a cure. Also, I'm on Zoloft for my anxiety.

Test results:
EKG: Normal sinus rhythm, 64/min, normal.
Echo: All normal.
BP: 115/75 at doctor's office.

At what point should I worry about ectopics (how many)? Is it common to have a fluttering sensation even with a single PAC or PVC? Is it normal to get those flare-ups where you feel ectopics several times a minute?

Fluoxetine :: Excess Worry, Feeling Guilty For Hardly Reason, Mood Swings

I've been on prozac 40mg 5 weeks and my mood is getting so much improved. But I am having mood swings, and I worry about everything. I feel guilt out of nowhere. I'm in college and I even feel guilty for going to see my partner 15 minutes away because of fear of my parents being upset. Because they gave me impression that they would like me to see my partner over the weekend and not on the weekdays. I am almost paranoia. I have this feeling of anxiety and guilt. Is this a side effect? Will this go away? It was not this way before.

Anyone Gotten Pregnant On Mirena (IUD)?

I had my Mirena placed in August 2013, and so far it's been a pretty decent experience. I used to 'spot' for only a day when a new cycle was beginning, but lately I haven't had any spotting in 2 months or so...

The past few days I feel like I've been experiencing 'pregnancy symptoms' and I feel a little crazy since I know that I have the Mirena, that there's less than a 1% chance of pregnancy (I know--there's STILL a chance)...but I've only ever experienced some of the symptoms I'm experiencing while pregnant with my first child.

The symptoms that I'm experiencing are:

-bloating / exhaustion

-headache / backache (i normally don't get many bad headaches)

-fever / chills (it was 70 degrees out yesterday and I was huddled under blankets freezing, yet had been sweating)

-nausea (smells making nausea worse)

-increased smells (I can smell things that others can't--or it's an increased smell)

I know that many are going to say take a pregnancy test, or to go to the doctor's...as I do plan on doing as soon as I leave work this afternoon---I'm just curious if anyone else has experienced this, since it is a hormone that can make your body 'think' it's pregnant without actually being pregnant, or if anyone else has actually gotten pregnant while the Mirena was inserted.

Contraception :: Mirena IUD Removal

After 5 years and 7 months I’m booked in now to have my Mirena IUD removed on the 24th of Feb.

A bit of background,

I’m currently 34 years old, Single, have no children and never been pregnant.

I have a top OBGYN, after many years and many problems I had the IUD inserted via a laparoscopy and D&C under anesthetic to help with Menorrhagia.

For me having the IUD inserted was never about birth control it was about assisting to reduce the extreme excessive bleeding I was having nearly every two weeks for 9 odd days at a time.

It took a few months for the IUD to settle and function correctly for me.

I am pleased to say that having the IUD did help with dramatically reducing the Menorrhagia.

However,

During this time I have suffered dramatic hair loss, weight gained (40 kgs) approx. 88lbs twice and shed it again now twice, fluid like swelling in ankle and knee joints, developed both food intolerances to avocados and bananas, and also food Allergies (head to toe hives) from what exactly I’m still not totally certain of.

About 3 years after the insertion I started to suffer bad cystic acne, on my body and face. I never suffered from pimples and bumps as a teenager so this has been an ongoing struggle that I thought was something to do with just growing older.  I’ve tried every over the counter product, spent thousands of $ nothing works.

Over the past few months I’ve been on 100 mg per day doxycycline it has helped slightly but nothing dramatic.

As I’m due to have the IUD removed I started searching information about the process, what to expect etc.

I know there has been a huge amount of negative press about the IUD over the past year or so and one has to air on the side of caution when exploring information on the net.

Here’s the thing I have read a lot of information about women gaining weight after the IUD and not being able to lose it.

To them I simply suggest the blunt honest truth, they are simply not trying hard enough to shed the weight.

That might be a hard fact for many people out there to swallow but people don’t need any more sugar coating.

While hormones do play an active role in potentially having an effect on a person’s body weight, in my instance they clearly didn’t prevent me from losing the enormous weight I gained twice.

As for the rest of my symptoms, I had attributed them to the symptoms of the dreaded aging process, that was until I started to research what I could expect after the removal of the IUD.

I’ve read about many people suffering similar symptoms.  I’ve also read about the “Mirena Crash”.

Personally I’m not currently sexually active so I’ve decided I just want to have my IUD removed and I want to stay off birth control and all hormones for a few months to see how my body copes with things now I’m older.

If my Menorrhagia continues and my other symptoms do not go away after the IUD is removed then I will definitely consider going under anesthetic again and having another IUD inserted.

I’ve started this thread for a few reasons,

1 – To learn more about what other women experienced once they had their IUD removed ?

I expect there will be a period of bleeding (either a few days or weeks) after the initial removal.

I also expect that it will take a few cycles or months before my body returns to a normal kind of cycle.

2- If other people had the IUD removed and suffered any similar symptoms to the ones I listed above, did those issues clear up for you and go away after the IUD was removed ?

If so, how long did it take for you to notice a difference ?

Clearly I cannot say for certain that the IUD has caused all my symptoms, and equally I don’t expect all my symptoms to magically disappear or be fixed once the IUD is removed.

But I’d really like to get some feedback from others regarding their experience of life AFTER they had their IUD’s removed and I’ll post on my progress after my IUD is removed here as well.

Contraception :: Mirena Or Copper Coil?

I'm going to have a coil inserted, but I'm not sure which to have, I leaning more towards the hormonal/Mirena/IUS coil but can I have that inserted if I'm not on my period?

Also with the copper coil, I've heard that the periods can get heavier, how long do they last for? Does it slowly get better at all?

And any tips before I go to the doctors on what I should prepare myself for? What the entire procedure is like? I know all these websites have talked through it but from people's own point of view, what's the experience like?
