Flatfoot Reconstruction Surgery Concerns / Nervous About Recovery

Apr 6, 2016

I'm about a month away from having flatfoot reconstruction surgery and while I'm nervous about the recovery, I can't wait to have it taken care of.

I have a couple of concerns I'd love some input on. One is how you get from a wheelchair into bed when the bed is higher than the chair.

Another concern is I have very painful Plantar Fascitis in my right heel. I had a cortisone shot about 2 weeks ago which only helped for a couple of days.

My concern is that I'll be putting so much pressure/weight on my right foot after surgery and I can't imagine how I'll do that with the heel pain.

Foot / Ankle :: Getting Around After Flatfoot Reconstruction Surgery

I will be having Flatfoot Reconstruction Surgery in May and am trying to get a handle on the recovery. I live in a small 1 bedroom apartment, ground floor, but with 2 semi-steep steps leading inside.

I'd love to know anyone's experience with steps/stairs after this type of surgery. Also am looking for a recommendation for a good foam wedge for foot elevation...and actually anything else you might want to share. I'm a bit overwhelmed at how arduous the recovery may be.

Nervous System :: Cavernoma Brain Surgery Recovery Time?

I'm 20 and im coming closer and closer to getting neurosurgery to remove a cavernoma, its at the left just sitting on the top of my brain, the side effect from it is epilepsy (my left cheek goes tingly..that's all)and that's stopping me from being able to drive, which costs me jobs and frustrates me a lot since my neurologist found out what it was weeks before my driving test so i never even got to pass!the other problem is it could burst and then id be dead...Yay.So were looking at the neurosurgery, i was just wondering if anyone knew the answers to the following questions:

how long will general recovery take? i.e. how long will i be in hospital for? and how long before i will feel normal again?

how long before you can drive after brain surgery? as my aunt got a tumor removed and she has to wait a year.
what are most common side effects after that kind of surgery?

how big a dent will i have in my head after? the thing there taking out is like insanely small, like quarter of your thumb nail size.

obviously its dangerous but is there much chance of anything going bad or are these ops a pretty standard thing nowadays ?

and can it come back? i don't know if that would depend on what they're removing?

FlatFoot :: Reconstruction Or Physiotherapy?

I'm 16 years old and have severe flat feet. i have a lot of pain in my feet, legs, knees, hips and back. i started to go to physiotherapy and the doctors said i had the worst feet he had ever seen (he was surprised i could still walk) i then went to one of the best orthopedic surgeons in my area. after looking at my Xrays he said that there were 2 options 1. surgery and 2. intensive physiotherapy. my parents decided that surgery would be a better fit as physio may not work. after getting an MRI the surgeon has again returned with 2 options surgery or orthotics. my parents now want to see if orthotics will work. But i want the surgery i have had 3 sets of orthotics already (custom made) and they don't seem to work. i really want the surgery and i don't know how to tell my parents i am going into grade 12 (senior year) and my parents believe it will affect my studies but i have maintained good grade. should i have a say? how can i convince them to get the surgery?

Anyone Experiences? Flatfoot Reconstruction - Frightened

I am having serious doubts about going ahead with my surgery, and I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced a tremendous improvement in the pain and functioning of a foot with a ruptured PTT. My rupture occurred in November, and caused me LOTS of pain, limping, and sticking to three inch heels to keep the weight off my arch. I postponed my surgery to May 21 because I was too frightened. I wore an ankle brace that also pulled up my arch while doing whatever I could at the gym. At the end of March I noticed much less pain and walked three miles briskly with some incline on a treadmill. I can even jump rope now a month later and have been for several 4 mile fast walks. In fact today I was up to 4.7 miles/hr. on the treadmill. Tonight I did a single heel raise! I know my arch has flattened and now looks like my worn out flattened left foot, but am I crazy to be going ahead with this major surgery when I'm experiencing less and less pain and my foot is becoming more and more functional?

FlatFoot Reconstruction - Gathering Information - Any Advice?

I am looking to have a left flat foot reconstruction in The Fall of 2014 at HSS.

I am trying to get as much information as I can in regards to making the right decision. Currently I can still exercise but have pain when walking a distance or being on my feet all day. Also my foot is starting to turn in and affecting my knee.

I want to hear how did you know when it was time for you to get this surgery done. How bad was your foot before you considered this surgery. Could you walk at in orthotics without pain or were you in constant pain all the time.

From what I hear this is a horrible surgery and I don't want to be worse off than I am now. I have already had 4 opinions with different OS and they all recommend close to the same thing just different ways of doing it.

Foot / Ankle :: Flatfoot Reconstruction Experience - 7 Weeks Post Op

I had my surgery 7 weeks ago and am finally in a boot and can walk again with the help of 1 crutch. I am driving and going to physical therapy 3x a week. The first 5 weeks were very hard not being able to put any weight on my foot. A knee scooter was a tremendous help. I was not In very much pain and got to go shopping and out to eat. Getting the cast off at 5 weeks was great. Hopefully the rest of my recouperation will be as easy.

Foot / Ankle :: PTTD Surgery - Transition To Shoe Concerns

I am now about 11 weeks post op ... in a CAM boot and using a walker and sometimes a cane at home or where ground is flat and smooth.

I have just started to go to outpatient PT and my dr. suggested I use an ankle brace in a shoe for extra support ... while I build up my muscle and make the transition out of the CAM walker into the shoe .

What type of Ankle brace has anyone out there used? There is a Malleoloc Brace my PT therapist likes; and I have an Air Cast PTTD one with an air bladder under the arch . I have custom arch supports from before surgery that are still ok to use also. What type of shoes are best? My Surgeon seems to prefer a shoe that laces up and is not too flexible. I have a pair of Ziera lace up shoes I wear with my arch supports...

I am weight bearing and with very little pain...more stiff and slightly achy at times.

Foot / Ankle :: Sleeping After Reconstruction Surgery

I think I saw this mentioned before, but do you have some helpful hints about sleeping after surgery? I'm a side sleeper with pillow between knees. It's about the only way I can sleep. Yea, it's probably not possible at the beginning. Also, did anyone put a "blanket support" at the footboard to hold the blankets and sheets off the foot?

Flat Foot Reconstruction Surgery - Success Rate?

I have suffered with flat feet all my life. I have had pain for at least 5 years now and within the last year, my condition has deteriorated. My ankles are now rolling in on both feet. I have been to see both Dr Deland and Dr Ellis (he takes my insurance) and they both agree that I need the surgery on both feet (eventually). My questions to everyone who has had this surgery are what has been your success rate? Has it changed your life for the better or the worst? Would you do it again? What was the worst part? And finally, any diabetics out there that have had this surgery? How was your recovery with the diabetes? Any and all answers are greatly appreciated! I am scared out of my mind, but living like this is scaring me even more.

Hemorrhoids :: DGHAL Surgery - Recovery Time?

I'm 25 years old and had been living with stage II internal hemorrhoids for about 4 years now, and with a prolapsed thrombosed from one for about six months. It got seriously painful about three weeks ago and I couldn't sit down or do regular daily activities anymore. So I decided to visit a private clinic where they suggested the DG-HAL surgical procedure saying it was "non-invasive" and that they would surgically remove the thrombosis as well. Fast forward, I had the procedure done this Wednesday and they said "Oh yeah it's a fast recovery, we do it on Wednesdays and Thursdays so that people can get back to their jobs by Monday"..so here I am, Sunday 4.45 A.M., haven't slept since the surgery, and I just don't feel like stuff is healing. I have no appetite but am forcing myself to eat more small meals and drink plenty of water and fiber and oil supplements to make the BM pass better. So my concerns are the following: it's already the fourth day and i feel more pain, and have the feeling like by bowels are full and trying to rip out of my torso. I'm taking antibiotics as well as ketoprofen painkillers every 6 hours or so because It's just to unbearable. I have the urge to visit the toilet very frequently but when I try to push something out only small traces come out (it is soft and without blood though). It hurts like hell after I pass gas or a BM, the cut out thromb takes up most of the pain. When I try to go to sleep, as soon as I begin to doze off a spasm contracts in my rectum and the throat starts hurting like hell and it wakes me up. They say the method takes about 3-4 days to recovery, but as you can see I call baloney on that. So if anyone has had a similar experience can you tell me if this is normal and if it isn't what should I do about it? I have a written exam on Monday and I want to be functional to take it.

Eyes :: Squint Surgery And Recovery Times?

My daughter had surgery on Monday for intermittent exotropia. Surgery went well, however as expected Surgeon has over corrected eye. I know this is to be considered favourable but am wondering how much over correction is ok as the pupil is now sitting almost in the corner of inside eye. At our follow up appointment surgeon said let's wait and see how she is in 2 weeks as the eye area is still very tender and she is not wanting to open it at times. I'm ok will all this as I understand it's a big thing for the eye to go through and it needs time to heal and see if it will settle in place over time and allow spasms to stop. My daughter also still has double vision 3 days later how long can this last? and I'm wondering if you would share your child's experience after surgery?

Right Foot Bunion Surgery - Recovery? Pain And Tingling

I recently just had my bunion surgery on May 2, 2014. I know its been a few weeks and all but i felt that reading all these posts regarding to bunion recovery sorta urged me to post my share about it.

The surgery went well, but as for pain, its still very difficult to bare with. I have been feeling these weird tingling feeling throughout my entire foot, as well as having a burning sensation feeling and tightening where the screw was implanted. of course its very stiff still but when i try to bend it i get this sharp pinching pain right where the bunion was cut. I need to know if this is normal. I am in the military and of course i know they will state that its normal, but i want to get a second opinion.

Lichen Sclerosus :: Laser Surgery - Recovery Taking Long

I was diagnosed with vin3 in Jan 2014. I had surgery in the Feb and had 3 weeks off work recovering.  My consultant told me that I would need about a week.  I then had laser surgery in sept 2015 and then after cells appeared immediately had more surgery 5 weeks later.  Is it just me or is the recovery time under estimated.  I keep being told that it is only a week to recover but the pain is excruciating.  I find standing up difficult and have to roll over to get up. I don't think anyone realises how painful this condition is post op and I feel like I am trying to avoid work when asking for a sick note!  I'm really fed up!

Recovery :: Internse Pain Since Lap Band Surgery, Irritated Diaphragm?

On Feb. 17, 2014, I had lap band surgery & in the process, surgeon removed a hiatal hernia. I have had no problems at the incision site, but intense pain in my diaphragm, left side, and up my left shoulder..between my collarbone and top of breast. Pain moves across my chest, but the worst in on left side. At 2 week checkup, I was told my diaphragm was irritated and it would go away. I take 4 Advil per day at his suggestion, and nothing seems to help, but lying flat. What is causing my pain & how can it be relieved? Also, I get hiccups several times per day.

Foot / Ankle :: Heel Fracture (no Surgery) Recovery Time

I broke my heel 54 days ago, felling down from 2nd floor. I am really nervous & worried about... Doctor told me you need to keep cast for 60 days (or 8 weeks) 2 weeks ago I had 2nd x-ray, it was 40th day of fracture... I smoke, as you know it makes bone recovery period longer....On my X-ray heel didn't look like recovered....bones were darker color, fracture place still lighter, but doctor said its fine & you can put weight on that foot and come back after 2 weeks, we will take off cast and put on some kinda fixing boot. However, neither 2 weeks ago, not now I can put weight on it. It hurts so bad....I don't know what to do, do what doctor says, or listen my pain? I want to know if its normal to feel such bad pain whilst doctor say your bone is okay? and how come it's okay, if on my X-ray even I can see its not okay.
