HIV :: ELISA Inconclusive And CMIA Positive - Which Is Accurate?

Feb 4, 2016

The man I had an exposure with had this result from a test, he is due for another test in a few weeks.

I've heard that CMIA was more accurate than ELISA. Should I be worried?

Lyme Disease :: ELISA And Western Blot Positive

I am so beyond frustrated right now. I have been dealing with health problems for nearly two years now and finally I might have an answer. My primary care doctor has diagnosed me with Lyme Disease after both ELISA and Western Blot test came back positive. He immediately started me on Doxy for 21 days and refereed me to infections disease.

Problem is infection disease will still not see me. They outright gold me that if after 21 days on Doxy I still have symptoms AND still text positive on the Western Blot, they will re-evaluate my case.

I am having sever symptoms including fatigue, joint pain and swelling, horrible headaches, I've developed a nerve palsy in one of my eyes that is causing double vision, and I am starting to slur my words and having problems with short term memory and word blocking. The last time I had a tick on me was last Spring, so I have concluded on my own that I am in the last stage of the disease and at the very least just want to talk to someone that could answer my questions.

I am going to try and get an appointment with my primary care doctor again to see what his take on the situation is. He has also been frustrated with ID refusing to see me when he first thought I had Lyme Disease, so maybe he will be of some help.

HIV :: Possibility For Cross-reaction To The ELISA Test?

I am a 23 year old homosexual male that has had 2 sexual partners in his life. I was with my first sexual partner for a period of about 6 months, and in that time I did have unprotected sex. However, even though I had never had sex before (which is why I had never been STD tested), my partner at the time did get tested before we were ever intimate and he came back negative for all STD's, including HIV. I have not been with that partner for over a year now.

About nine months ago, I started dating the partner that I am still with today. We have had sex, but have never been without using protection. Back in February of 2014 he and I went for a routine STD test and he came back negative while I came back positive for the ELISA test. My general physician ran a confirmatory test and that came back indeterminate. Then, she had me run a viral load, and they could not find any virus in my blood. So I went to see an Infectious Disease Specialist a few weeks later and she had me repeat testing. She told me that I shouldn't have had anything to worry about because my ELISA index value was so low (6) that she didn't know why my GP even told me that I was positive. Once again, when I retested, I tested positive for the ELISA antibody test, but indeterminate for the confirmation test and they still could not detect a viral load. They are having me wait until the three month mark to repeat another test to see if that gives me an answer.

But I am concerned. The last possible exposure that I had to HIV was with my first partner and that was over a year ago, and he routinely tested negative. My partner and I now have only ever practiced safe sex, and he routinely tests negative for HIV, too!

I don't quite understand what to think at this point. Is there a possibility for cross-reaction to the ELISA test? I am so ready to not be confused anymore!!

HIV :: Test Reactive Elisa - Borderline Western Blot

I found out I have tested reactive to the Elisa test with inconclusive results on the western blot, when the Dr. phoned me up to tell me I am HIV positive back in 2013 I was in shock. I have been married for 10 yrs same partner for 17 yrs with two children. (my DH tested negative at this time we have both been monogamist and neither of us use drugs. I have had surgery and tattoos that could be possible exposure.)

When I received this news I made a point to contact my OB/Gyn as I know I was tested when pregnant with both my children. Apparently the OB/Gyn did not feel it was necessary to tell me that my test was Elisa was reactive back in 2011 when carrying my second child, not sure about the test results from first pregnancy was over 10 yrs ago.

I requested to see a ID dr. but my OB/Gyn insisted to send me to someone he knows an internist he just looked over my results and said your results are false positive wrote a letter to the dr that told me I am positive and that was the end of this diagnosis.

In, Aug 2015 I found out I am expecting our third child and again the routine blood work was performed, and again the results came back reactive Elisa and Borderline western blot. I am yet again being sent back to the same specialist for further testing.

My question is if this has happened to anyone else and what can cause reactive Elisa and a borderline or inconclusive result several times of being tested? Should I be requesting a infectious diseases dr who is dealing with HIV patients regularly to confirm this is a false positive result instead of seeing and internist?

Lupus :: Positive ANA And Positive Anti-dsdna

So I have been sick with a mystery illness for the last year or so. I've seen every specialist, and the first thing they looked for was a malignancy, but there seems to be nothing. Then I saw a rheumatologist and she sent me for blood tests that came back with a positive ANA and positive anti ds-dna. From what I've read, positive anti-dsdna is VERY specific to Lupus. I never thought I had Lupus because my symptoms weren't specific to it, but after ruling almost everything else out, I'm thinking more and more that Lupus could be it. Because my symptoms weren't specific enough, my rheumatologist told me she wanted to see me again in 3 months to see if there were any progressions. I'm really becoming more certain that it has to be Lupus with these positive tests, and I'm worried that I won't be able to get a diagnosis for a long time to come.

Some of my symptoms include:
Extreme fatigue
Constant low grade fever
Neck discomfort
Headaches
Random pains in fingers and knees (not constant, every once in a while)
Chest pain when breathing deeply
A lot of memory problems
Thinning hair
Can barely work out or walk at the same speed as most people

What do you think I should do next in order to speed up finding a diagnosis? How do I make it clear to my rheumatologist that I feel like this is becoming more and more urgent?

Lupus :: Positive ANA 1:40 With Positive Anti-dsDNA

2 years ago it was ANA 1:80 and the anti-dsDNA was 10, now it's ANA 1:40 with anti-dsDNA 22. So which is worse ?

2 years ago they said it's borderline and if I don't have symptoms, let's wait, they didn't dx. me with lupus.

I had ( and still have ) unexplained hip pain ( comes and goes ), headaches and lightheadedness ( had them before, but usually around periods ), but 2 months ago they become very bothersome and almost constant. My vitamin D is 25 ( should be 30-70 ) and vitamin b12 is 244 ( should be 200-900 ) my dr.said is still kind a low
.
Are these lupus symptoms at all ?

HIV :: 9 Week Oraquick Is Accurate?

I had unprotected vaginal insertive back on11/28/2015 and 12/2/201 with the same girl. On 12/08 I was treated for Chlamydia AND LATER FOUND POSITIVE FOR IT. After a round of antibiotics it was presumably gone. However the Doxycycline caused me to experience all the ARS symptoms. After a week or so of being off they were gone. Reading over and over again about symptoms I told the girl to test and she kept saying she was negative and finally went and bought an Oraquick test at her 8 week post exposure to her ex who gave her the chlamydia and it came back negative. I was only at 4 weeks and so the wait was on. After my 9 week exposure I went and bought an Oraquick Swab test from CVS and it came back negative. I am now going on week 10 and still feel like garbage. Can I assume that my 9 week Oraquick is pretty accurate?

Herpes :: How Accurate Is A Blood Test For Hsv?

I was recently found to have genital herpes in my vaginal and anal region. There are only two possible people i could have got it from, being my boyfriend and the guy before. My boyfriend has never had an outbreak, but we now know it can be transmitted even when undetected, and he's likely the transmitter. I would like to know if he is infected, so we can both prevent it spreading to him, and inform the other person that he needs to be tested.

So my questions are, how accurate is a blood test for hsv? And in what price range does the test cost to have done? Are there any other tests that don't require a person to have out breaks?

HIV :: How Accurate Is Oraquick (92%)? Chances Of False Negative?

High risk over 10 years ago. I didn't even think to be tested. So after thinking about it everyday I decided to get a oraquick rapid home test. The results were negative. I was fine after. Shortly after I was diag. With seborrheic derm. Which I read can be a start of symptoms in late stage. So I started to research oraquick and found its only 92% reliable. Does anyone know anything about this. Will it really give 8% false negatives. I took another one because I couldn't remember if I drank before it. This time I did it after I woke up in the morning so I could be sure. Are these tests accurate at 92% ? Could I be in late stages is that why sderm is showing up and maybe there aren't enough antibodies. What are the chances of 2 false negatives? Should I take it 9 times? Or is it falsely negative depending on the person. I don't want to think about it anymore.

OraQuick At Home Test Being Accurate On Children?

STDs :: 12 Days Long Enough Time Frame To Get An Accurate Test

32yo married male here, I foolishly got drunk over the weekend and gave and relieved unprotected oral sex off a female prostitute.

She was not at all high class and I'm extremely worried about my health. I have made an appointment for 12 days after this happened with a doctor for an std check.

I have 2 questions

1. Is this a long enough time frame to get an accurate test done.

2. If negative would it be safe to resume my married sex life?

OraQuick At Home Anti Body Fluid Tests Accurate?

Are the OraQuick at home anti body fluid tests accurate? I have read that 1 in 12 will test false negative. I have also read that those false negatives are not do to testing in the window period. Can someone please explain the validity of the tests and the truth about the false negatives? Also, if the OraQuick is administered to children, if the child was infected, would the OraQuick detect the antibodies in that individual? I know test is not recommended for children, but antibodies to hiv should be detectable regardless of age, correct?
