Hemorrhoids :: Chronic Rectal Bleeding

Jun 8, 2015

I am a 23 year old male.

I've been having periodic rectal bleeding for some time now, and I haven't gone to a doctor because I can't muster the courage to do so (I'm just too ashamed to present this problem to my doctor and family), and the amount of blood is small enough for me to be calm about it and my overall health is good.

So I decided to ask a question here before I go to a MD. Also, I informed myself on this issue from various sources on the Internet.

I first experienced rectal bleeding back in the summer of 2013. I was shocked initially, but then I regained my calmness, and on the next day there was no blood in my stool. Then I had another bloody stool a month after that, then it went away after 2-3 days.

So for 2 years, the rectal bleeding is periodically appearing then fading away. Each time the rectal bleeding occurs a few seconds after I pass the stool. So when I pass the stool, the feces are perfectly normal, not mixed in with blood or looking tarry. The way I understand it, that when I pass the stool, it somehow manages to hurt my anal area and causes a small wound, which explains why several drops of blood fall on the toilet several seconds after the stool passes and goes into the toilet bowl.

After doing some research online, I (in my humble opinion) suspect that I have hemorrhoids. Each time I experience rectal bleeding, it's only a small amount. 2-4 drops of blood, rarely more, unless in cases when I pass a hard stool. Sometimes I experience minor anal pain, which fades away in a few hours.

I don't match the symptoms of colon cancer, and if you leave out the rectal bleeding, my health is great. So it was something serious, I'd be in real trouble by now, right?

So right now, I have normal stools for 1-2 weeks, then I have one bloody stool for 1-2 days, then again followed by 1-2 weeks of normal stools. It's been like this for nearly one year out of the 2 years.

Also, I am an athlete, and I already eat a green vegetable with almost every meal - a cucumber, a piece of lettuce, cabbage, etc.

What can you tell me based on what I've told you? Have I took a serious risk to my health by ignoring this issue for so long?

Also, I am thinking of finally going to my doctor, but I wanted to ask online first. What should I expect of my doctors visit? What kinds of questions? What kinds of exams? Treatment options?

I understand that what I'm doing is really foolish, but the shame of going to the doctor and explaining this issue to my family greatly outweighs the fear I have of this issue. I hope you understand.

I wondered if anyone has had issues with rectal bleeding a few years after major anorectal and abdominal surgery to repair a rectal prolapse.

Hemorrhoids Or Rectal Prolapse?

For a couple months now I've been feeling this pressure in my rectum. No blood but sometimes an itchy or uncomfortable sensation happens at my rectum. This all happened after a time of extreme stress if that matters. But last month I wasn't passing stool easily and it felt weird but when I had a bowel moment there was still a bit of pressure in my rectum! I didn't feel anything protruding from my anus...just like tissue pushing out when there was no more poop. Today as I sat on the toilet only a small amount of poop came out but it felt like there was more so I felt down there and it was like little lump on the outside of my rectum and tissue pushing through! I'm so scared I've never had hemorrhoids before I can't take this pressure/pushing out feeling on my anus!!

Internal Rectal Prolapse Or Hemorrhoids? Incomplete Evacuation

I've been having problems recently that i'm pretty sure is either internal rectal prolapse or pretty bad haemorrhoids. This has made wiping after a bowel movement very difficult. I have also been suffering from incomplete evacuation, presumably as a result of the blockage.

I tend to use wet wipes but i still find that i am on the toilet wiping for a very long time. Its an extremely frustrating and demoralising experience. I wonder if anyone else has a similar issue? if so, does anyone have any tips so that I can ensure that i get the whole area clean? As i often worry that i haven't been able to clean everywhere properly and that its making me smell bad.

I have tried wetting the wet wipes with warm water, but i find this makes the area more sensitive which causes pain when wiping further down the line.

Mucosal / Rectal Prolapse Share The Same Symptoms As Piles / Hemorrhoids?

I'm a 32 year old male and I have had a Mucosal Prolapse for about 10 years.

A bit of history:

When I was around 22 (2004) I used to suffer from itchiness and the occasion leakage from my back passage, I put up with this for 4 years until I started noticing blood the toilet paper, this prompted a visit to the doctors who at the time was a stand in Doctor and he diagnosed me with a anal polyp.

I received a letter a few days later saying that he wanted to get it checked out by a specialist and have for me to have a colonoscopy, the colonoscopy came back all clear only for doctor to say it was a prolapse. I refused further treatment because I couldn't bear the thought of having an operation on my anus. So I managed the condition by changing my wiping technique and using wet wipes instead of dry toilet paper, this helped massively.

Fast forward four more years and in 2012 I had a normal bowl movement, and when I went to wipe there was quite a bit of blood, I headed off to the Doctors again (different Doctor), had an examination and he diagnosed a mucosal prolapse and said bleeding is part of the symptoms etc...

Over the past few years until last week, I had been managing things well, only the occasional spot of blood on the toilet paper until last Monday when I went for bowel movement and had a fair bit of bright red blood on the toilet paper along with streaks on the stool, this worried me but I put it down to my Prolapse, Tuesday was the same and then the rest of the week up to Last night were ok, last night I had had a few beers and felt the urge to go, which I did, and because I was anxious about seeing blood i had to strain to get it out, this was followed by the most blood I have had while having a prolapse, the bright red blood was dripping into the toilet and covering the paper, after about 3 - 5 minutes it stopped, and there was no blood at all, I have since had a bowl movement with no blood.

A few questions answers to questions you may ask.

My bowl movements had been normal up to the latest episode last Tuesday, then my anxiety set in...

The blood is bright red, I have had 1 occasion when the blood is on my stool.

My stools are normal looking with no visible blood inside.

I have no pain when passing a stool, only a slight stinging occasionally just inside my rectum.

I went to the Doctors last Wednesday and he felt no lumps on examination. He did acknowledge my prolapse and gave me a slip to get some anusol cream..

My Questions.

Does anyone else have the same condition?

Can alcohol make you bleed more? as last night I bled more than ever and felt a little drunk.

Does a Mucosal Prolapse share the same symptoms as piles?

Colon Cancer :: Small Amount Of Rectal Bleeding

For the past 4-5 weeks, every time I pass a stool, I have seen a small amount of red blood on the tissue paper. I'm only 19, so realise colon cancer is unlikely, but am still very worried about it. I've read it could be anal fissure but surely this should have healed by itself by now? I am hesitant to go to the doctors because of the nature of the problem. I know that's really stupid but if it can heal by itself i'd rather not got through the stress of going to my gp.
Thanks

Hemorrhoids Flare Up :: Chronic Pain And Itching

This is embarrassing but I've been experiencing haemorrhoids on and off for at least 2 years now. I think they are external. They are big and blue. When they flare up I have chronic pain and some itchiness. They don't often bleed though. I am a 20 year old female. Two Drs have told me to increase the fibre my diet. One said to drink 3L of water per day. Clearly I haven't been very successful.

My question is what do you do to relieve the pain when you have bad haemorrhoids? I have bought Retinol cream but one of the Drs told me not to use it, I'm not entirely sure why. Also, at what point do you know if you need surgery for haemorrhoids?

Hemorrhoids :: Minor Bleeding At BM

I am a 31 year old male. I have had some minor bleeding at bm's. After some time and research on the internet I became concerned and went to see my doctor. My doctor did a quick check up and took a medical history. My med history is clear including family members. No cancer or anything major. Furthering the exam my doctor did a visual exam of my anus and a digital rectal exam as well. She diagnosed me with having hemorrhoids. How long does the bleeding last before it is a concern? I have had diarrhea for the past 5 days and bleeding as well after bm's. Today however I had a normal bm good size and shape, no blood, then this afternoon it was almost diarrhea again with some more blood after the bm was complete. It is just concerning even after the dr telling me I had hemorrhoids.

Hemorrhoids :: Bleeding External Piles

I am a 19 year old male that got my first serious hemorrhoid around a month ago, there was slight bleeding when using the toilet however apart from that with ointment and care the pain subsided.

However three days ago the pain returned as bad as it was last time, yesterday I began bleeding heavily (leaving one pair of underwear ruined) and subsequently I went to my local hospital who said I should see a consultant this morning.

I did that, and he was useless, however confirming it was an external hemorrhoid that had ruptured. I have been booked for a camera in 8 weeks time and his only advice was to change everything about my lifestyle (time to give up all indulgences yay).

It has not stopped bleeding, and even walking from my local supermarket left me having to wash my anus as well as changing my underwear again.

My question is, how long will it take for the bleeding to stop, and is there anything I can do to help stop the bleeding as in my current state I don't want to leave my bed let alone face the prospect of work. I live in the UK so luckily healthcare is free, however I am open to home remedies as well.

Hemorrhoids :: Rupture Causing Bleeding

Went to a VA Medical Center to get checked. Doctor just told me that a Hemorrhoid may have ruptured causing bleeding. Everytime I wipe there is bright blood. I first just had the Hemorrhoid protrusion, then I moved a certain way and felt a release. Thought I had messed my pants but upon examination there was a lot of blood and the bump/hemorrhoid seemed to me much smaller. Well it seems to have filled back up, not quite as big as before but I keep bleeding. When I go to the bathroom the toilet water turns red. The doctor never examined the area. Just told me to continue to use Prep H or similar cream and she scheduled a Colonoscopy. Not sure how long that will take. Should I go to a different doctor and ask them what to do about the bleeding? Considerable blood when wiping or using the bathroom but dries up as the day goes until I use the bathroom again. But there is always blood on tissue I place in my pants.

Hemorrhoids :: No Bleeding But Pain On Touching

I'm quite young (23) and for a few years I've been experiencing hemorrhoids more and more frequently. I don't remember not having one in the last year : a new one always seems to replace another at a different place. For now the inconvenience is limited : there is no bleeding and I feel pain when I touch them, nevertheless my recent hemorrhoids are really between the interior and the exterior, which makes them shuttle a bit and create a smell sometimes, particularly noticeable after sweating.

SOLVING ATTEMPTS AND DISCUSSION

To keep it short, I've decided to greatly diminish my straining and my wiping for the last three months, which were both out of the norm in my opinion. Surprisingly, it was quite the opposite of an improvement, but I plan to keep those habits and to add more vegetables to my diet (which is fine on other regards). Besides, I'm a rarely constipated person and I believe my stool is a bit softer than average.

If I had to guess what are the causes of my problems, I'd say :

-the stress is causing me to contract (tighten)myself you know where all day long, or even the night.

-keeping the stool inside instead of pushing might not be a good idea and might cause more harm than good.

-inadequate (not in length or strength but in the manner) pushing. -too much leg-crossing or other bad positions.

-bowel movement at fix hour every day, instead of waiting for the opportunity (which I find to be quite hard).

Could anyone help me with this situation ? I'm afraid to endure a life of increasing pain. A doctor's advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Rectal Fistula Diagnosed Via Colonoscopy

I have had a rectal fistula diagnosed via colonoscopy. I have zero problems with it and would not have known I had it. From the operative report:

"midline anal fistula which was superficial with minimal amount of muscle involved within the fistula".

The surgeon said it should be fixed.

Why can't I just leave it alone? Do these ever go away on their own?

Retroverted Uterus With Rectal Pain

I found out - during a transvaginal ultrasound - that my uterus is retroverted. Another doctor had felt my uterus through my rectum (have had problems with rectal pain) and thought that my uterus possibly was enlarged. This was not the case, but it is retroverted. Has anyone had problems with that? Mainly, I'm thinking problems related to the uterus affecting other organs, such as the rectum.
