Hormones :: High DHEA And Free Testosterone

Oct 8, 2015

I'm 21 and for about a year now I've been having irregular periods and some spotting in between periods. About a month a go I went to my first obgyn appointment and she sent me to get some blood work done. I call and ask them for the result and I have high levels of free testosterone and high DHEA. The only thing she told me as to go back for a prescription to start birth control and the hormone levels will balance out. Shouldn't I have more tests done to see what is causing these high levels?

I'm currently waiting for the authorization for an pelvic ultrasound and my lower stomach and back are killing me. Could this be an side effect from the high hormone levels? Will birth control treat this?

Hormones :: High Total Testosterone (LH Of 25 And An Fsh Of 6.6)

I'm a 22 y/o female. I have always had an irregular period, but it's now been almost 4.5 months without one. I had an LH of 25 and an Fsh of 6.6. My doctor at student health says this is normal, but after doing some research that appears so only if I'm about to have my period. It has been 7 days and no period. I also had low fasting insulin serum and a total testosterone of 103 (normal 8-60) my free testosterone was normal though at 1.1. My prolactin was 13.3 and my TSH was low normal.

Hormones :: 21 Years Old And Low Testosterone

I am 21 years old and have found I have low testosterone. About 5 years ago, I started having heart racing, extreme fatigue, confusion/mind fog, and erectile issues. The doctors I saw chocked it up to anxiety disorder, and never checked my hormone levels.

I finally found out about my levels a couple of weeks ago, and I just got the results back for my LH, FSH, and SHBG - and I wanted some advice as to what I should push my doctor to do next. Here are my levels:
LH | RANGE: (1.5-9.3 mIU/mL) | VALUE: 2.4 FSH | RANGE: (1.4-18.1 mIU/mL) | VALUE: 1.5 SHBG | RANGE: (14-48 nmol/L) | VALUE: 17 TESTOSTERONE, TOTAL | RANGE: (249-836 ng/dL) | VALUE: 203

I currently have Kaiser Permanente and I don't believe they have anti-aging doctors, only endocrinologists. I want to be prepared to tell my doctor how to proceed because she is only an internal medicine - and she has been consulting with one of her fellow endocrinologist practitioners for how to proceed.

Hormones :: Low Testosterone, Incomplete Puberty

I am 28 years old, male, and was currently told I had Hypogonadism and incomplete puberty upon physical examination and blood results due to low testosterone. I went to see a general physician due to being symptomatic (Lack of body hair, balding, Gynecomastia, very sparse facial hair, underdeveloped sexual organs, Tired, Moody etc). I have been symptomatic since around age 12 so it has been ongoing for quite some time. I had 3 doctors all tell me that there was nothing wrong and the issue would correct itself. They chalked it up to a hormone imbalance.

My current doctor is running some more blood work and wants to do a karyotype to rule out genetic problems like Klinefelter's. I suppose what I'm trying to determine is if pituitary or thyroid complications can be ruled out by blood results? My doc says that it doesn't seem to be pointing to thyroid or pituitary issues but that the only way to determine truly is by doing an MRI for my brain and having a karyotype to rule out xxy.

He did mention that my testosterone levels are abnormally low for my "age group" and that I am underdeveloped and have incomplete puberty or lack of secondary sexual characteristics for my age. I do look quite young. I do recall having a stroke and facial paralysis when I was 2 years old, maybe I have some brain/gland damage. They never were able to determine what caused the stroke and paralysis. I recovered for the most part and have about 90% function on the affected area of the mouth and face.

I'm just thinking whether I should go see an endocrinologist or continue with this doctor. This doctor seems to want to put me on testosterone therapy which I've heard terrible things about. He feels that I would benefit from it. I'm really shooting in the dark here as I have no idea what to do next. Below are some of the results back from the blood work, Don't know what to specifically look for so I'll write what I see or think is related to the subject at hand. Could this be Pituitary or thyroid related? Does blood work accurately help determine pituitary and thyroid disorders?
ABSOLUTE NEUTROPHILS 8537H
ABSOLUTE LYMPHOCYTES 1407

Hormones :: Low Testosterone And Dropped Cardio

I have been diagnosed with Low T. I have been very fatigued over last couple months. My question is can low t affect your cardio? I am a runner and just completed a half marathon a couple months ago. Over the last month my cardio has dropped drastically. I can barely run a couple miles without having to stop. I have to walk for a while and then start running again. Could this be caused by the low t?

35 NG/ML (17-76 Ref Range) - High Testosterone Or Low Testosterone?

Can anyone help me understand these test results? I had a blood test that read my testosterone was 35 NG/ML (17-76 ref range) free testosterone is 0.2 NG/DL (0.3-1.5 ref range). I then had a saliva test done and my results were Testosterone 1,852 pmol/L (34-148 ref range). I am so confused. Do I have HIGH or LOW testosterone?

Thyroid :: Tsh Low, Free T4 High, Free T3 Midrange

Here are my lab results from 2/7/14:
tsh- .028 range- .45-4.5
t4 free direct- 1.86 range-.82-1.77
t3 free serum- 3.2 range- 2.0- 4.4

Last year:
lab results from 3/26/13:
tsh- .096 range- .45- 4.5
t4 free direct- 1.53 range- .82- 1.77
t3 free serum- 3.1 range- 2.0-4.4

It looks like I might benefit with the addition of t3 meds. (cytomel) to lower my free t4 and raise my free t3. I feel fine, and anytime I've tried to lower my dose of levothyroxine (.125) even a little bit (.112), I get brain fog, lethargy and GI symptoms. I've been on the same dose for 13 years and my tsh has been low since I started medication. I've only recently requested the free t3 & free t4. My main concern with adding cytomel is that it will further reduce my tsh & the dr will be concerned. This is my 3rd dr in the 7 years since I moved south & every one has been concerned about bone density & heart issues. Any suggestions when I talk to the dr? btw- no hyper symptoms :-) Thanks!

High Blood Pressure Due To Hormones (perimenopause)

Since Dec I had some drastic change in my body, prolonged bleeding but found out that I have polyps and my uterus is thick so I had uterine curettage and polypectomy, after few days my BP shoot up, lightheaded (severe-had presyncope n went to ER)and had some palpitation, holter showed 11 perc of time 120's, had some NSVT, had episodes of ST w/ rate of 150-160's, made me sleepless and anxious...so my cardiologist started me on lopressor 100 mg once a day. It did help lower my BP and my HR having a peaceful heart....However, I noticed that 2-3 days before my period my BP would shoot up giving me headache, but then my BP would decrease/normalized on the 2nd day of my period. I just turned 39 by the way.Since my curettage my period is not that heavy anymore. Now, is there a relationship of hypertension and hormonal changes?....could all of these body changes part of perimenopausal changes? I shared my story to my co-workers and surprisingly lots of us went through the same body changes.

High Testosterone And Prolactin Levels At The Same Time?

What would cause elevated Testosterone(1028.53 ng/dL) and elevated Prolactin(26.13 ng/mL)levels at the same time? I have normal Total and Free PSA levels. Desperate to find out what's wrong with me - please help.

Stopped Taking Testosterone Due To High Red Blood Cell Count

I am a 59 yr. old male and a disabled Veteran. I have been taking Testosterone for the past 15 years every 2 weeks. My doctor took me off of it on June 4th because my red blood count was too high. My body doesn't produce Testosterone anymore because of Hemochromatosis, which is a blood disease which produces too much iron in my blood.

Pituitary Disorders :: High Prolactin But Normal Testosterone Levels?

I am a 27 year old male. For some time I've shown symptoms of a lack of sex drive and erectile dysfunction but as I suffer from anxiety always attributed it as the cause. I had some blood tests done privately and my results showed a slightly raised prolactin level but my testosterone seems average.

TSH 0.70 mIU/L (0.27 - 4.2)

Prolactin 397 mIU/L (86 - 324)

Testosterone 21.3 nmol/L (7.6 - 31.4)

SHBG 35 nmol/L (16 - 55)

The results seem to suggest Prolactinoma but a common side effect is low testosterone where my results prove otherwise. I'm afraid if I speak to my doctor he will tell me it is all in my head so I'm trying to make some sense of the results.

I guess the question I'm asking is is it possible to have raised Prolactin/Prolactinoma and normal looking testosterone levels?

Should I speak to my doctor anyway?

Thyroid Disorders :: High TSH And Low Free T4

I've been on Synthroid medication for 20 plus years and have done pretty well on it until recently.   This routine test showed a TSH level > 100 and my Free T4 at .24 which is low.   I've been placed on Synthroid at 300 mg and I'm waiting to see a specialist.  In the meantime, I'm wondering what does this means?

Hypothyroidism :: High TSH But Normal Free T4 - Panic Attacks

For sometime I have had panic attacks and frequent infections of chest and ears and viruses.Last April things moved on quickly and I was covered in painful itchy blisters, neuropathic pain, vertigo and feeling shut down. I was covered in bruises. Ambulanceman reported an ischaemic looking ECG and took me to A and E.

The only findings wee raised TSH with normal free t4 and normal Thyroid peroxidase abody. Also raised basophil and eosinophil. They said hypothyroid but my GP says no as no autoantibodies?

I am still suffering-eyebrows gone, no energy, dry wrinkled skin and 3 more courses of antibiotics for chest and throat infections. Any ideas, anyone? Also sight got really bad and joints ache ++

Thyroid :: High TSH, Normal Free T4 - Fatigue, Depression, Feeling Cold

I am a 51 year old female and had a physical last week with my general practitioner because it has been a long time. It included blood tests. One test was about the thyroid and I've got conflicting information about the result.

The report says:
TSH Reflex to Free T4
TSH RFLX is 8.25 - and is high, the normal range is shown as 0.40-4.50

T4, FREE
Thyroxine, Free, Direct - 0.8 - and is in range, range is shown as 0.8-1.8

I've done some research and it looks like this combination falls in the hypothyroidism range. However, my doctor says it is fine because the T4 FREE number is in range. There is no family history of thyroid problems. I'm concerned because I have some of the symptoms of hypothyroidism (fatigue, depression, feeling cold).

Does this sound right to those of you who have experience with thyroid disease? Should I see an endocrinologist?
