Spine Disorders :: Reflexology Help With Untreatable Spinal Distortion?

Mar 9, 2011

My mother suffers from spinal distortion. Her muscles are sprained. Doctors say that this condition of hers is untreatable. I was thinking of trying with alternative methods like reflexology is. What do you think? Can it really help with her condition or not?

Spinal Surgery :: Medtronic Spine Stim Exploded - Infection

I had a Medtronic spine stim put in me in 2013! Every time I turned it on I got severe burning pain and it would swell up uncontrollably!! Finally on eighth week it exploded!! I ended up in hospital for six days!! After that I have that pain 24/7!! Can't do anything without suffering badly!! Saw all kinds of doctors and they said I needed to try another one!! Against my true feelings I was skeptical and ended up putting it in!! I couldn't even use it due to the severe crippling pain it caused!! Ended up taking it out and after three years of doctors they did an mri looking to see if it burned my spinal cord!! The do to told me that no burn on spinal cord and wants me to put in new nevro hf10 system which I am worried about doing!! The pain is still 24/7!! Pain meds all day long and I still suffer badly!! I am looking for some kind of answers!! I don't know how much longer I can take the pain!! Does anyone know of anyone else that had or has this problem?? I am at my end here!! This is ruining every part of my life!! Lost most of my friends as back so bad I can't go any where!! Not even to dinner, cookout or any kind of event!

Thyroid Disorders :: Memory Loss / Distortion

My mother had her thyroid and a benign tumour removed about 6 months ago. She lives 3 hours away from me, so I have seen her a few times but only for short intervals and we regularly speak on the phone. Since her operation I have noticed she is always tired (also due to her heart medication) and that she has become more of a glass half empty type of person. Recently my father had a heart attack (serious but my Dad is a trooper and is now recovering after surgery). I have spent the last week with my mother, and with her thyroid and stress of my father I became her personal punching bag. Her erratic mood swings, outbursts and obsessing over trivial matters are well documented relating to the thyroid in all the googling I have done. What I can't find is any information on her memory loss/memory distortion of the facts. To give 2 examples (of many): 1. My parents had a lawyer at the hospital to update their will, so I went out and sat in the foyer. I was on my phone looking at Facebook to fill in time and one of Mum's friends sat beside me. I put my phone away and chatted to her friend. On the way home Mum had a go a me  because her friend told her that I spent the whole time looking at my phone whilst she was trying to talk to me. 2. After leaving my niece's 21st, my Mum tells me that one of my brothers was very cold to her all night and didn't talk to her. A couple of hours later as everyone is heading off to bed, my mother says "So (my brother) didn't talk to you either" with which I replied "Yes we did, I spent quite a lot of time talking to him". My mother than lost it completely and started yelling that I had told her that my brother didn't speak to me. Though I can't find any information about this type of memory loss, I am hoping someone might be able to give me a heads up. Also if someone has been told by a family member about their erratic emotions I would love to hear your advice on how to bring it up with my mother.

Spinal Cord Conditions/Disorders :: Can I Exercise With Sciatica?

I've been dealing with severe sciatica pain that radiates from my lower back down to my calf. It sometimes gets so bad I cannot move. I've been seeing a chiropractor for the past two weeks and we've discovered I have a tilted pelvis and curvature of the spine; aside from my dx, the adjustments don't seem to be helping.

My question is, should I still be exercising with this pain or is it worsening the pressure and inflammation of the nerve?

**I am a gymnast and athlete so I spend a lot of time at the gym do hardcore lifting and HIIT. My chiro said to focus on stretching but it hurts so bad I can barely manage it.

Macular Pucker At 70 - Untreatable Due To Age?

Recently went for my annual checkup to my retinal specialist and the  exam revealed a weakness in my right eye. Focus not clear in it,  and wavy lines when reading a grid.  I was surprised at the wavy lines!

Long story short was diagnosed with macular pucker in the bad eye. When questioned about the cause etc was told its from age (I am 70) and there was nothing that could be done to address the degradation in vision.

After researching the diagnosis it seemed there is a surgical procedure to address the scarring and improve vision, but  although it may help it is not a complete cure.

Back Issues :: Spinal Cord Stimulator Or Spinal Fusion Surgery?

I had back surgery in March 2013 that left me with mechanical instability, acquired spondylolisthesis and lots of pain.

I have 2 ortho spine surgeons telling me that I need a bi-level spinal fusion surgery to repair the damage, but after the botched first surgery, the thought of another surgery scares me to death. Plus, since surgery is what spine surgeons do, the recommendation seems obvious.

I also started seeing a new pain management doctor (we moved to a new state) and he is suggesting that I consider a spinal cord stimulator trial, with surgical implantation if we find that it helps the pain.

So...I'm left confused. I see the positives and negatives of each, but I'm just not sure if one makes more sense over the other. I think that my spondylolisthesis will worsen over time and could pose a threat of nerve damage, while the spinal cord stimulator is designed to mask pain and does nothing to address the instability.

I'd love to know if anyone else has faced a similar decision...or has thoughts, ideas, comments, suggestions for considering one over the other.

Mammogram With Architectural Distortion In The Right Breast

I just had a mammogram and it came back with architectural distortion in the right breast. My doctor says not to worry, but go for a repeat mammogram. The nurses in the office said the report did not sound concerning too, and one receptionist had this and it was the result of the mammogram having the distortion not the breast! I am so scared as reading on the internet does say that architectural distortion can be a sign of breast cancer. Has anyone had this show up on a mammogram? Can anyone offer some encouragement or experience with this?

Eye Care :: Distortion Of Peripheral Vision

I'm wondering if anyone has ever experienced distortion in their peripheral vision. It's a bit difficult to explain, but it's almost like objects are a different shape in my peripheral vision than when I look straight at them. It often looks like straight lines are bent in my peripheral vision, or objects just seem to shift position but then shift back when I look back at them. Sounds very odd I know. I do have astigmatism on both eyes, but is this a normal symptom of that?

I have some other odd visual symptoms, such as trembling vision (straight lines appear to tremble) and light sensitivity. I had a virus about 6 weeks ago which I'm still struggling to recover from - achiness, fatigue, some muscle weakness. I've had blood tests, MRI brain scan and my eyes fully inspected by 2 ophthalmologists.

Eyes :: Vision - Multicolored Distortion Prism Floaters

Ok so i have this weird problem with my eyes. Randomly (happened a lot when a year ago but stopped until now) i start seeing distorted lines. Kind of like millions of tiny prisms are rotating in a line. The lines often start in the center of my vision (making it hard to read) then migrate to cover the left or right side of my vision (but no longer the center)

It appears to be transparent but it is actually not due to the flashing of colours all over it.

They often take shapes but they seem abstract and are hard to focus on. Kind of like a multicolored distortion prism floater (the lines that you can see floating sometimes) although it grows to cover ~30% of my vision.

The "distortion" often stays visible (or moves out of sight) between 20 minutes and 3 hours.

I have not discovered any trigger for this "distortion"

Ear Problems :: Loud Roaring Vibration Sound In Ear And Hearing Distortion

Has anyone experienced a loud roaring low frequency noise in ear with hearing distortion.  I woke up one morning in December of 2015 and felt like there was a gong in my head all sound was vibrating. I felt like I was in the front seat of a car driving down the highway with the back windows open halfway.  I went to doctor and found I had lost some low frequency hearing in right ear.  I was Put on steroids for two weeks.  Got hearing back but left with this loud tuning fork/motor engine sound in my right ear and random hearing distortion in both ears.  I am very sensitive to low-frequency sounds and any kind of motors, airplanes and low voices just don't sound clear.  The motor engine stops when I speak and returns after my last word.  When someone speaks to me loud enough the motor engine will stop also and than return upon their last word.  Sometime sound drives the motor engine into the other  ear and I feel a fluttering/vibration/rumbling sound in the left ear.  If I shake my head back and forth quickly the noise will stop for a second while doing it.

Had so many tests and scans that don't show anything wrong.  My hearing test are normal now.  It is driving me insane.  Can't eat or concentrate. Severe anxiety.  Went to audiologist and see if I could have it masked but it is to loud.  I can't believe I can still hear over this noise and distortion that is going on in my head. Some days are better than others and I think I may be getting better but it gets worse again.  I have no dizziness at all.  Some doctors told me meniere's disease or virus.  I can't stand it anymore.  Does anyone have any suggestions?

Anxiety :: 6 Years Of Light-headedness, Panic Attacks And Visual Distortion

I have suffered with a so called anxiety disorder now for about 6 years. It started when I was on the train home from university and all of a sudden I lost some of my vision, felt very light-headed, pins and needles all over and thought I might pass out. This was the first time I had ever felt like this and before this incident, I was a very outgoing and independent person. However, since this I have has 6 years of constant, 24/7, light-headedness with severe panic attacks. I cannot go out, I cannot be left alone so my life is basically non-existent.

I have had every medical check there is - bloods, MRI, EEG, ECG - and all sorts of differing meds - citalopram, sertraline, lamotrigine, pregabalin and the list continues. All tests have come back negative and none of the meds have made any difference really. I have also had many diagnoses - depression, GAD, depersonalisation disorder, agoraphobia and even an inner ear issue. I have had counselling, CBT, hypnotherapy and all haven't made a difference.

Spine Surgery, ALIF At L4 &5 - S1 :: Leg Cramps

I am 18 months out from my 4 th spine surgery, ALIF at L4&5-s1. The surgery has been a huge success, no back pain and only occasional mild aching in my legs with ibuprofen for pain control as needed.

My problem is the continuing cramping in my foot, calf, back of the thigh and buttock on the affected side. One or more of those areas cramp multiple times a day. I lay in bed at night and can feel the Calf muscle twitching, have to keep my foot flexed to prevent cramping. As soon as I doze off, my foot relaxes and the calf immediately cramps, meaning I have to get up and walk to stop the cramping. Anyone else have this issue? Any insight? Muscle relaxants have only minimal effect, and I hate the thought of taking them every night. The problem intensifies the more exercise I get, which is discouraging.

Osteoarthritis :: Hip And Spine Wear And Tear

I have Osteoarthritis I think, although the doctor didn't really do any tests to confirm it.  Perhaps there's nothing they can do, I don't know.  Anyway, it started out when I had a frozen shoulder when I was sixty from fracturing a small bone without realizing it.  Because of the strain on the other shoulder that subsequently froze up as well.  I had to sleep on my back for nearly a year, but after two lots of cortisone injections into the joints and lots of active dancing in my bedroom whilst in agony, they finally freed themselves and got back to normal.  After that episode I found that my lower back was painful when I got out of bed in the mornings, and my right knee would collapse with pain up and down the stairs. My right hip now gives me a lot of pain too, and sometimes all of these joints play up together, leaving me in lots of pain. I do find that paracetamol helps, and I do use voltarol etc. I have tried using flexiseq also, which is a topical treatment that is supposed to lubricate the joint, but it is very expensive at £18 a tube and I'm not really sure whether it works or not. It seems to work sometimes, but not others.

Also, I find that I can wake up occasionally with more or less no pain at all for no reason that I can make out.  I wish I knew what it was! Perhaps something I ate, or just didn't do the previous day??  who knows??
