Nasal Congestion - Nothing Works - Steroid Sprays, Antihistamines, Saline, Capsaicin Prays

Apr 30, 2015

My problem started about 6 years ago. I don't remember triggering it, but my nose got fully blocked, I couldn't breath through my nose at all. I went to see an ENT specialist, done the allergy test. He said that I was allergic to dust mites, and that I needed a surgery to trim my middle turbinates so the nasal spray could get through.

After the surgery my nose was fine for fine, but it was very short lived. After a few weeks it was just as bad as before.

I tried different nasal steroid sprays, antihistamines, saline, capsaicin prays, acupuncture, and noting, not the slightest improvement.

My ENT said that the hot humid weather was the problem and if I moved to a cooler climate it would get better. So I did, and indeed it got better. I no longer live there, moved about a year ago, but still having nasal congestions. At night times one side is always congested, during the day it's better, but sometimes it can get really bad, no idea from what. Maybe the change in the weather, pressure.

I also noticed, that if I bend forward my nose immediately starts to get blocked.

I also read that it could be a nerve damage in the nose, and that the blood vessels lose the ability to constrict.

I think doctors looking that problem from the wrong way. Trying to reduce the inflammation in the nose without knowing what causing it. It's like if you had a swollen gum from a bad tooth, and they would only treat the inflammation. There wouldn't be any point to do that without treating the tooth itself, which causing the problem at the first place right?

So I assume that's the case with this awful sinus congestion, cause unknown therefore most treatments  fail.

I'm very suspicious from ENTs, I heard many horror stories where surgery not only didn't help but made things much worse!

I'm wondering if anyone had or having similar problems and how you managing it.

Deviated Septum Operation? Nasal Obstruction (breathing Difficulties) And Nasal Drip

I have suffered with Nasal obstruction(breathing difficulties)and Nasal Drip(continuous mucus draining down the back of throat)for over 8years and have been prescribed all the usual sprays, anxiety pills, breathing strips, etc.

My latest consultant advises I need an operation to treat a deviated septum(restricted airway on one side of nose).

I was also told by one consultant that I had collapsed airways due to my age(70) and nothing could be done.

Has anyone had this operation, and if so, did you have relief from nasal drip and improved breathing through the airways.

My quality of life is poor, with low energy during the day and nighttime breathing problems that cause me to be awake most of the time.

I am looking to make contact with someone that has had surgery or experiencing the same symptoms as mine.

Nasal Polyp History :: Nasal Dryness And Pain In Left Eye

Two weeks ago, I woke up with pain in my left nostril.  I thought it was a pimple and would go away, but the pain is shooting into my left eye and temple area off and on.  Is this nasal dryness I am experiencing or could it be something more serious?  It is strange that I suddenly felt it overnight.  I have history of polyp in this area but wasn't big enough to cause a concern 2 years ago.  I am trying to keep area moist with argan and almond sweet/vitamin e oil but hear that I shouldn't keep doing that, lipoid pneumonia may result in repeat use.  Saline spray makes it worse.  I will go in eventually to check it out, but this ENT Dr. I have usually blows me off.  He is not the compassionate type and to see another specialist is an hour away.

Lungs Congestion Due To Atrial Fibrillation / Flutter

i've had AF for 4 years now but a recent X-ray showed lung congestion which they think is being caused by the heart.  I also get excessive facial sweating - does anyone else suffer these symptoms.  Also I am breathless going uphills and stairs which is a new development although I can walk miles on the flat.

When is AF just AF & not a heart attack?

Rheumatoid Arthritis :: Cortisol And Steroid Shot

Due to a bad flare I was prescribed a steroid shot. I need to take some cortisol tests as the anti-tnf which I took might have messed it up. Can I take the shot before the blood/24h-urine test? Or do I need to wait until after the tests as these shots may influence the results? Bad pain, so I don't want to postpone the shot. Bad cortisol, so don't want to alternate the results... The rheumy didn't know. The endocrinologist is out of office... Any info you may have will be most helpful / didn't find anything about this on the net. Except of prednisone impact which is a diff form of steroid.

The new Doctor assigned to me will not perform the shoulder surgery without a first giving me a steroid shot, My Doctor had advised me that the steroid injection would only be a temporary solution and it would just postpone the surgery I need in the end. What should I do, since I am refusing to have the steroid injection.

Painkillers I have been prescribed up till now are useless but my GP is giving me stronger ones for when I go on holiday in 2 weeks so I can walk around hopefully. He has told me that when I return from hols, I will be having steroid injections. I'm interested to know what other sufferers think regarding this and also if it has helped the people who have had the injection.

Lateral Ankle Reconstruction OR Strapping, Rehab And A Steroid Injection

I'm after some advice, anecdotes etc. Two years ago I sprained my ankle quite badly and it never really healed. It has bothered me quite a lot since, particularly after walking and running but seven weeks ago I broke the head of the fibula on the other leg and the ankle has become very angry as a result of having to take almost all my weight for so many weeks.

I mentioned it to my orthopaedic consultant at my last appointment, was x-rayed and it was then explained that there is a two year old avulsion fracture there; the bone and ligament never reattached. As well as this, I also have sinus tarsi syndrome. The ankle is very painful and unstable and he strongly recommends a repair. I have a podiatrist friend who suggests strapping, rehab and a steroid injection.

Has anyone had anything similar and what route did you go down with what result?
