I have a very painful spot on my back between my shoulder blade and my spine. It hurts just for my hair, clothing, or even a good breeze to touch it. It is not red or warm to the touch. It is accompanied by a rash that will spread from shoulder to shoulder and up my neck. The rash is very fine and comes and goes. It itches and burns and is painful also. The rash is not red or warm to the touch either.

Although I am almost totally recovered, I still have bright red spots on my face which are not blisters and are not crusting over. They show no sign of fading and still (rarely) itch. Is there anything I can use to get rid of them? I've tried calamine lotion and am currently rubbing an ointment containing aciclovir on them. I'm worried they may be permanent - I have sensitive skin and can't use make-up to conceal them.
View 1 RepliesA couple of days ago I noticed a lump on the shaft of my penis just an inch or so from the bottom. I chose to ignore it until the next day as it had gone bigger and quite painful when touched or if I wore skinny jeans or slept in a certain position. The spot/lump had increased in size and remained red, but it seemed to have a bit of white/yellow growing in it.
View 1 RepliesAbout a week ago i had a dull ache on my back behind or near my shoulder blade , i couldn't quite trace the source but found some crunchy , knotted tendons (probably not the correct word). Soon after i noticed a burning feeling , the best way to describe it is , when you get sunburn and put a shirt or top on , it gives that same feeling of mild irritation. I have no rash. After a few days i decided to go to the doctors , i told him the symptoms and he suggested it might be shingles , but only based on what i'd said. He gave me a choice of starting a course of tablets now , or waiting until a rash appeared. He said it's best to catch it early , so i took the option of the tablets (7 days supply) and a cream. The tablets are Aciclovir (800mg) , the cream is .... well , RED HOT CHILLIES !
I used the cream last night , but the burning was intense , the discomfort i had before was not that bad , the cream put the discomfort off the scale.
So , is it ok to take that course if i DON'T have shingles ?
Is the cream optional ? can i just not use it yet , as the discomfort is not that bad.
Today , my shoulder blade still has that odd dull ache and is only very mildly sensitive , could this be shingles ? is a sore area a symptom of shingles ? at times i'd thought it was a pulled or twisted muscle , the doctor made the diagnosis on what i'd said about the burning sensation. I did have a period in the last month when i was ill , flu like , so maybe i was a bit rundown.
Two days ago I noticed four pink raised marks on my back, didn't itch a lot, but when I did scratch them I got a really tender burning sharp pain. Today I've been to the Dr's, she said they were unusual and to keep eye on them. I showed my mum and she reckons it's shingles. I've got another small raised pink mark on my lower back today that I've noticed, the marks are longish about 2cm long by a cm wide and an uneven/lumpy texture but smooth to the touch. I have a headache and haven't felt well for a few days.
View 5 RepliesAfter a short flight I started experiencing sharp pains in my right chest..... 5 days later was at outpatients where they tested for everything cardiac and pulmonary..... Was sent to family Dr who asked if I had a rash anywhere and my husband said yes as he noticed a red patch on My back while doing up my hospital gown. I had been a bit itchy in that spot... Anyhow I do not have any pain at rash site just the severe pain in my chest. Dr says the pain can present along any nerve.... Has anyone ever had shingles symptoms like this ?
View 11 RepliesMy 88 year old mother who has dementia has developed odd sensations and pain in her upper back. She's had two bouts of extreme pain which moved around but were in a similar area of her back - lower ribs on left side. The pain lasted only for a day each time and each time I saw what looked like sweat pimples but they were on her upper chest at the front - ie a different place. Now she often feels cold and shivery (when in fact she is hot) and puts more layers on to the point where she starts sweating, feels pain in her upper back and gets very anxious when she gets it (most days in the afternoon/evening). She gets night sweats. Does this sound as if it could be left over from shingles?
View 1 RepliesI am 27 years old and I had chicken pox when I was 2. When the shingles came out, it took me down like nothing else. It has been almost a month since I noticed the rib pain. It started with sharp rib pains that hurt really bad and thought it was my spleen. Then about 4 days later I noticed a round sore right under my breast where the rib pain was occuring. Then a couple of days later, it showed up on my back, directly across from the other ones. I had no idea what this was... I waited to go to the hospital because I thought it was poison ivy! I waited about 8 days to go to the hospital. Had I had known what it was, I definitely would have gone immediately. Oh, the pain was excruciating! Ibuprofen did not even touch it. I was prescribed Acyclovir, Prednisone, and a cream that did not help. I was also prescribed Dilauded for the pain and Promethazine for nausea. It has been a week since I finished all of the medication. The shingles are almost gone but there are about 4 really bad areas and they do not look like they are healing. Since last week, I have developed little pimple like things all over my shoulders, face, neck, back and buttocks. I have no idea why they are there. Did anyone have the same reaction? They will not go away! Please help!

Sometimes after being on my feet all day my left calf will burn and pulse with pain until i sleep and then its gone in the morning. had a blood clot test performed for it before and it came clear, although its happened even worse afterwards. my family does have a history of varicose veins/vein problems and yesterday i noticed a tender spot on the back of my thigh (left side) , about the size of a penny. it doesn't hurt unless pressed or moves. i didn't look at it until today, and the tender spot looks like a purple little circle at the end of a larger vein. the veins in my legs are pretty visible but they don't really pop up or anything. i do have this strange, painless, green mark on the backside area of my knee though. im just freaking out bc i cant identify this. im only about 20 but i've been fairly inactive the past few years due to my anxiety. i also get this pulsing/pumping feeling through my legs, esp the left, when im laying down but im aware that can be a symptom of anxiety. does this look like a bad vein... or perhaps a bruise i don't remember getting? its easier to see from far away. sorry, im freaking out.

Yes, I'm a senior and I'm afraid these are old age spots, but I'm puzzled that they should appear as a wine color. I only noticed this twice in my life. My other age spots appear just brown.

Yesterday, I noticed it was flaking off and itchy. Today, it looks like this. Reddish but white in the middle. I'm really concerned and have been anxious over this since last night. Does anyone know what this could be?? (The redness around my navel has been there for a while too.)
View 4 RepliesHello! I am a 34 year old woman who has just been diagnosed with shingles. I have had them for about a week and am quite uncomfortable, but not miserable. I have had some stomach pains for a few days that I believe are associated.
One problem I have is in all the information on the net and from doctors they stress the point "you can NOT get shingles from someone with shingles"... well, I disagree. My mother is a non-hodgkin's lymphoma patient who was diagnosed with shingles about two weeks ago. I live by her and help her and I find it hard to believe my shingles didn't come from being exposed to her!
Just wanted to let others know.
I've just been diagnosed with Shingles. I have been told you can't get Shingles from Shingles, only chicken pox from shingles. But I am the third person in work in a week to come down with Shingles. If you can't get Shingles from shingles, how come so many people in work have it?
View 25 RepliesAbout 2 week's ago I took 2 perc within a night and the next day I got sick, I thought from the pills, but than I was nauseous and have been for the most part ever since. My left side mid to lower back started hurting approx a week ago and it's gotten much worse last night and now I'm having pain in my upper right abdomen as if the pain moved. I'm on muscle relaxers for my back already but it's not affecting/helping my new pain though and the new pain doesn't feel the same. I was just curious if anyone had any idea what it might be, some say kidneys but does that pain or can it move from my back to my abdomen?

View 1 RepliesTwo days ago I was in the gym exercising my shoulders and whilst I was lifting weights, I moved my back whilst seated and I heard a 'click' sound in my back, followed by pain in that area of my lower middle back. I immediately stopped exercising and haven't gone to the gym since.
I don't know what I was thinking by moving my back like that, but since it happened there is a lot less pain and it feels like the pain may be totally gone in the next 48-72 hours hopefully.
On the night of the injury I found it hard to turn onto my side when in bed, but now I can do it without any problems. Now I can only feel some pain when I turn my upper body to the left or right or if I try to stretch my lower back.
Would anyone be able to give me some advice such as what type of injury I have or whether this may have a long term effect? Is it a very positive sign that the pain is decreasing each day?

I was doing a yoga pose (a torso twist hold which is where you lay on your back bring both legs up in the air then bring them down with your knees/legs tucked and torso twisted on opposite side) when I accidently dropped mid twist too quickly and hurt my lower back, the pain on a scale of 1-10 is about a 2-3, so a dull aching. Its localized and does not radiate down my thighs/legs or up to my neck. There's no shooting/stabbing pains and It also doesn't burn, or tingle (numbness). Could this be just a stretched/sprained back issue or a pinched nerve?. It also isn't tender to the touch at all.

but suddenly 20 days back i got back pain after my routine exercises and my MRI report says following:
1. L4-L5 disc reveals minimal diffuse bulge abutting the thecal sac without any nerve root compression.
2. B/L mild facet arthropathy is seen at L4/L5 and L3/L4 levels with tiny anterior paradiscal osteophytes at these level.
3. L5 vertebra us sacralised with rudimentary L5-S1 disc.
I was diagnosed with hypo this past november but i started feeling sick in september of 2011 when i was 17, im 19 now and my life has changed drastically due to this! My hair was falling out at a rapid rate, i was gaining weight even though i barely eat and had some really bad mood swings! Went to the doc and prescribed me levothyroxine 50mg it has been 9months since im on this medication, my levels are back to normal but i still feel as though nothing has changed, my hair is falling out i'm almost bald, its really hard to lose weight and according to my mom i have become unbearable! How long does it take to see actual progress with levothyroxine? does your hair grow back at all? will i ever feel better? i just want my life back :'( I had take a year off university because of this and i need to know if anything is gonna change! I'm sorry for the long note i'm just fed up and frustrated, thank you for your time i really appreciate it :D
View 5 RepliesI am 29 and Female. I have been under a great deal of stress lately. I have been having some minor health problems that cause my mind to go to that dark place. I am having very irregular periods and GERD/Gallbladder issues. Also, I am planning a wedding and my mother was just diagnosed with Lung cancer about 2 weeks ago.
My upper back across the "meaty" part of my shoulders has been so tight and painful. If my fiance rubs them, he finds all kinds of trigger points that are so painful to the touch I can't breathe. In the middle of my upper back I feel a sharp pain sometimes. My neck muscles are tight as well as the tops of my arms down to my elbows. On occasion my fingers tingle.
As of the past 2 days I feel a pressure on my chest right below my collar bone. If I yawn I can feel my throat muscles get sore. The very top of my sternum is tender to the touch. It almost feels bruised.
I did a little bit of research and it seems that all of these problems are connected. The scalene muscle group can cause all of these problems. I am going to see a massage therapist on thursday. Hopefully I get some relief.
Another bit of info, I have a desk job. I am at a computer for 10 hours a day. I work 60 + hours a week. I had a chest CT scan with contrast in July and it came back clear. ( unrelated incident ) So I believe I can rule out anything major. The scan is only 3 months old.
My question is; has anyone else experienced this? If so, what did you do to ease your symptoms? I have tried muscle rub so far. Doesn't help much...I am going to ice the areas today and see if that helps.
