I have a 2013 Toyota Avalon Hybrid Touring Model.
The vehicle is great, however the clicking noise from the wiper relay is obnoxious. It is only when the intermittent wiper setting is applied that the noise is apparent. You can also duplicate it by manually moving the wiper knob up and down. I showed the dealer this twice, and both times they say it is normal. I will take a video later today and post it to show.
We took my 08 Touring down to Florida for our vacation, and while she performed great- {average 28-32mpg @ 70ish mph} -she fell shy of expectations when we hit a few light rains. At speeds above 70 the drivers wiper blade would clear on the up stroke but not on the down stroke....yes, 1st thoughts are go slower, but that isn't a real answer for me.
Before leaving I installed new brakes {rotors/pads/hardware} all around, new Michelin tires {all 5} and "new wiper blades" {rain-X}. The new brakes were very useful going thru the stop and go traffic in Atlanta, the new tires were very useful in the twisties of Tennesee's hills...but the wipers had me getting lapped often on the way back home due to the lifting issue above 70, so I kept to 65-70mph.
The way I see it, it's either the wiper blades not having enough "ramp" on the blade for the wind to push it down at speed, or the wiper arm tension spring is going soft.
My car is an '08 with 154k...{no leaks/motor still has great power/went 3400 miles and she didn't burn a drop of oil!}.
Yesterday I opened the lid of tank for windshield wiper liquid to add solution. But there is no filter ( fine plastic net). My old 2002 Avalon has it.
My new Avalon is 2014 Touring (V6).
A couple months back my avalon started refusing to start, lights would come on with the key, but when i turned it, nothing but a click. after a few tries it would eventually start and run, usually for the day without issue again. After a while it got worse, and I had the battery tested. It was dead. So i replaced it. The car would still click the first couple times but start more readily then it had previously. Fast forward 2 weeks. I go to start my car, it does its clicking thing, then nothing. The whole car just dies. no lights, no clock, nothing. I gave it a minute and it came back on with dimmed lights and the antitheft system (which goes off if the battery is disconnected) goes off.
since then, i have successfully started the car 2x, but after each shut off, the clicking and no start issue returns. The battery cables are free of corrosion and its a brand new battery. I have seen issues with the starters and alternators on these cars on forums before, however with mine intermittently working, its slightly different. at least to my limited mechanical knowledge.
I have seen starter rebuild kits for fairly cheap online and alternator replacement options that look to be fairly easy with the tools that i have access to.
Not real happy with stock blades. Leaves streaks. Bought right size Goodyear hybrid at Costco. But it seems the push button adapter will not work. Toyota has always used J hook before. So now they switch to push button but apparently some non standard version. Checked Rain-x, Bosch, Goodyear sites. Nobody lists 2016 Prius.

New wipers fixes this problem, but for only two days
I recently replaced the wipers on my 2007 Toyota Avalon Limited. The new wipers are a rather expensive one-piece design that tends to bounce along the windshield producing an irritating noise. Never had this problem with the original equipment wipers. I have cleaned the wipers with alcohol, which temporarily improves the situation but the problem quickly returns. Only relief comes during major downpours.
View 4 RepliesI have replaced the wiper motor and the wiper blades stop vertical on the wind shield. Readjusting the position of the wipers does not work. The wipers wipe the hood when that is done. I have done something wrong.

View 2 RepliesI have a 07 ES 350. Several days ago, I went to auto car wash without turning off the auto wiper blade. When I came out, I saw the wiper blades were higher than before. Then I loosen the nuts, and put them a little lower trying to make them back to original position.
But now I realized that it does have Summer/Winter mode. Is there any way to make sure which mode is it now? Should I pull down the blade after starting the engine, or before?
Passenger side wiper blade extending over the glass? Asking the dealer to see if this needs adjustment.
View 8 Replies2002 Nissan Maxima w/ 134,000 mi. Driver side wiper blade squeaks mercilessly when windshield wet. I've: changed blades twice; cleaned blades & windshield thoroughly with alcohol; w/ ammonia; with vinegar, for each using paper towels and also tried with newspaper; cleaned windshield dry with baking soda. Baking soda seemed to work at first but soon returned to previous squeakiness. It's driving me nuts and the wet weather is around the corner!
View 7 RepliesMy beloved 2000 Toyota Echo has started to stall intermittently. It has worked with no problems for the past 100k miles that I've owned it (purchased used with 40k already.) What happens is that while driving I hear a little click, everything shuts down for a second or so, the red idiot light lights up for a few seconds then clears.
It's never lasted more than a few seconds and everything goes right back to normal. And it's only happened maybe a dozen times in the last three months. But it makes me nervous since I have to travel over major bridges and through tunnels regularly where I live.
The stalls usually seemed to occur after the engine has heated up, but I just had an exception this morning. Since I noticed the fan never goes on after long trips anymore, I just had the thermostat replaced but that didn't fix.
What could the cause of the rear wiper on an '06 RX330 not gripping well to the window be? Could it need a new spring, or could the entire assembly need to be changed? What troubleshooting can be done in this situation?
View 3 RepliesI recently purchased a '09 LS460 SWB. I noticed the driver side windshield wiper arm sitting up high enough to be in my field of vision.
I'm aware that there is a "winter mode" that allows you to raise the arm up a few inches, but from everything I've read....usually the driver and passenger side arm raise together.
In my case, my passenger side arm sits nice and low near the hood, while the dirver is sitting an inch or two higher.
I tried pushing the driver arm down (with success), but after cycling the windshield wipers once, the driver side arm goes back to the higher position.
I bought replacement blades for Drivers side and rear window.
I'm half-way mechanical... OK , maybe 1/4. It appears that the blades themselves are not replaceable; only the refill (squeegee) portion is. is this correct?
Front-drivers-side actually looks like the complete blade may come off, but it's not obvious how it releases.
The rear appears to have no way to easily remove the complete blade.
Finally took the car ('13 GT) back to the dealer to have them deal with this noise. Every time I turn the car left or right, I get a loud click or snap noise from the right front. My first thought was it was something in the suspension loading and unloading as the weight shifts from left to right. So, brought it in at the 59,000km mark, the looked at it, drove it around and finally said they re-torqued both axle nuts as they were loose (didn't even get into THAT one)
Soon as I drove it away, it was still doing it. I lived with it for the last 6,000km and finally got sick and tired of it so I took it back. Same deal, but this time they say the right axle shaft is shot.
The far end of my passenger side wiper has been leaving about a 2 inch wide arcing streak lately. I figured I needed new inserts, so I replaced them yesterday. The passenger side wiper is still streaking in the exact same place. I know I put the new inserts in correctly, including installing the little metal clip at the end of the insert. What could be the problem? Could I need a new wiper blade? Do those things go bad?
View 14 RepliesI'm driving a 2013 Avalon XLS Touring - stock 18 inch wheels and stock Bridgestone tires. Bought it new and today I have 28,400 miles on the odometer. Have had a thumping ride since new and now the ride seems rough and loud. No steering wheel shaking, just a loud rough ride. At first I thought it was flat spots on the tires ... maybe the car had been sitting ... but this dealer seems to have a habit of not bring the tire pressure down to the proper level at delivery. Tires were overinflated at delivery so I'm not sure about the flat spots. I don't do the 5000 miles maintenance. Rather I rotate tires at the 10,000 mile interval with the free oil changes. I've had too many broken wheel studs for rotating too often. Dealer states its BECAUSE I don't rotate enough. I'm thinking its the tires... maybe the belts moved or something else ... maybe just the way the tires ride.

Wasn't able to replicate the issue at the dealer so I was pulling the blade off last night to investigate and broke the small square retaining clip (Red arrow). Do the clip assembly (Blue arrow) can be purchased separately or if I have to buy a whole new wiper.
