I just installed a stereo in my daughter's 2010 Accent and tapped into the emergency brake wire to disable the DVD option when the emergency brake is engaged. Everything works fine except that the emergency brake light on the dash stays on dimly after releasing the emergency brake.
View 10 RepliesAlthough the 2009 Accents don't have automatic running lights, since I got the car I'd just been keeping the headlights turned on. (Yes I know this will cut the life of the lights themselves but it's not a bad safety step for a small car).
This worked well of course - the headlights would come on when the car was started, headlights and parking lights would go off when the car was stopped.
I've done nothing different but in recent weeks however the parking lights have been staying on quite often - though not ALL of the time. While I can't rule out I've done some quirky thing differently that somehow keeps the lights on, googling around and searching this forum indicates that this could be an issue with a relay box which may be costly to replace but still under warranty (I'm under the 5 year 60k mile warranty still)
Now bear in mind, this isn't a situation where the headlights are turned off and stay on - it's just a change from having the headlight knob always on, but the lights would go off when the car was stopped and keys removed.
Obviously the "fix" is simply turn off the headlights when I get out of the car - but I am concerned that there's an inexplicable change and wonder if it's a sign of larger issues regarding a relay that should be addressed while it's under warranty.
I know - very minor in the grand scope of car problems but I do worry about larger electrical issues, especially since the parking light issue seems to be erratic - sometimes it goes off, sometimes it stays on.
So my 2007 Accent/Hatchback started having this weird issue the other day.
My Parking Brake/Low Brake fluid Level Warning Light will coming on while driving and then all the gauges drop down. The light goes off and the gauges come right back up. All this happens within 2-4 seconds maybe. And usual happens maybe once every 6-7 times I drive it so not all the time.
I am driving, not braking so even more confused.
So here is my issue, my parking brake light stays on. Ive checked my parking brake pads, the cables and the switch. They are all servicable and operational yet the light stays on...
View 7 RepliesSometimes when I start my car, parking brake light fails to go off. I know this is usually indicative of low brake fluid, but mine is not low. I rarely use the brake so I don't think it's the parking brake switch either as it only happens if the parking brake is not engaged. Never happens on the occasional use of it.
Restarting doesn't seem to work unless I set the brake, restart, then disengage it. Very strange problem. Not a big deal but is a bit perplexing. I never see a CEL or any codes generated at all.
Why the parking brake light in my dash stays on, 2004 F150. Fluid in master cylinder is full, has no signs of leaks anywhere.
View 2 RepliesI have a f250 super duty. I blew a brake line the main going to the rear. So the genius that I am I replaced the line an simple enough I decide hell why not replace the master cylinder too, so I did an I bleed the brakes an everything works jst fine but now the the brake light won't turn off I have tried everything not sure what could possibly cause the light to stay on. I will eliminate some suggestions, I bleed the brakes, the brake fluid is full, the level sensor is completely attached, the parking brake is not on, I pulled the parking brake completely out, even completely disconnected the sensor thinking it would turn off bu it didn't.
View 1 RepliesI have a 2003 V8 4WD SR5. It has 109K miles and I replaced the pads and rotors and front calipers about 8-10K ago. Since then it has been doing fine in the brake department.
This morning, the brake warning light (the parking brake light) came on about half illuminated. The parking brake is not on and when I press the parking brake it illuminates fully. The other warning lights associated with the brake system (VSC TRAC OFF, VSC OFF, and ABS) are not illuminated. The fluid is at the max line, if not a bit above.
Given this info, I don't believe there is a major problem or else it would actually be fully illuminated and the other lights would be on as a result of the brake light. I am just curious what is causing this issue and how to fix it.
I have a check engine and air bag light that stays on. I was told if I dis-connect the battery, it will clear the codes. I need an inspection and I'm short of time.
View 1 RepliesMy wife was about to go into work today and when she started the Accent she said it started rough and revved up two or three times and the check engine light flashed 5 or 6 times. The light stayed on solid after that but there was no loss of power, smoke, low gas mileage or vibrating or any other symptoms after initial start up. I plan to take it to an auto parts store tomorrow (the car is at her work about 20 miles away) and get the code read. What I may be in for? I'm hoping its something simple. I told her to check the gas cap just in case.

View 6 RepliesI just bought this car from the original owner. She didn't take that great of care of the car. First oil change was done at 8,000 miles for example. Basically if it was broken she would fix it, but didn't do much preventative maintenance.
I just replaced all 4 spark plugs and coils since one was misfiring and didn't want to have to go back in and replace one in another few months. Replaced the AC belt a few days ago since it was cracked and worn. All other belts are fine. I drove the car around for a few hours the next day and it ran great.
Today, the check engine light flashes and then stays on. The car is idling rough at stop lights and acceleration is poor. Previously, the light came on and it was the EVAP system. Not sure which component and I was told it isn't supposed to affect the way the car drives.
I go in this week to recheck my nagging check engine light. Flashes after a warm start, then stays on. Been there once already for it, it has come on too after a cold start... Last time they said it was a very vague miss fire code.... It did shake a bit... On the plus I get to drive a nice new Elantra again.... On the down, I never want my car back after driving it ...
View 2 RepliesOK, so I have a 2010 Subee, 36K miles. Three events here, added in car monitoring from State Farm for Ins Discount, had a nail in back tire which I had repaired, it's been pretty cold at night here in GA. When I start the car, both the cold engine and the brake light are lit. Cold engine normal, takes it a few minutes then it goes out. Brake light is staying on until the car drives a bit (maybe 10 minutes?). No odd brake noises, brakes feel fine, emergency brake fully released. Recently had fluids checked and oil changed at Jiffy Lube. Have had the car for 3 years, this is new. It didn't do it last winter. So - do I need to go to the dealership? A brake place? Check the brake fluid.
View 3 RepliesToday I took my 2006 Toyota Prius with 167,000 miles out to drive my dog to the vet. I turned the car on and deactivated the parking break and noticed the light stayed on, then I noticed the VSC and ABS lights stayed on as well.
My car was parked backwards on a driveway incline for about 14 hours. My 12v battery is old, not sure what shape it is in. The hybrid battery was replaced 2 years ago. I have been reading up and i guess it could be a sensor, skid sensor, 12v battery, or some sort of pump. Also, my parking break has felt a little weak as of late.
The car still drives, not sure if it drives funny or psychologically I think it does.
So my May 2007 V6 Sonata with 143,000 km (89k miles) had the red parking brake light come on. Master cylinder level was low and there was evidence of something leaking on the driveway. Below the very back of the driver seat.
At the dealership they say I've got a leak in my brake lines. Say that the fuel lines should be replaced too since they are in the same compartment. So if one goes the other may not be far behind.
I was out of town and the car couldn't be driven safely so I was pretty much stuck there.When the dealership did the work a rusted bolt snapped near the fuel tank and they said that added an additional hour of labour to the work. In the end I wasn't charged for it. Tech said he had never seen a Sonata have the brake lines rust out like that. I got the brake and fuel lines done cause I plan on owning it for 6+ years.
I have a 2010 Chev Cobalt LT, bought brand new off the lot- at about 15,000 km's, I started to experience some electrical issues.. Basically, what it is the parking brake light comes on in the instrument panel along with the all the other warning lights, both speedo and rpm gauges stop working, -- basically EVERYTHING electrical, but the lights, and turn signals, hazards work-- took it in to the GM Dealer- they cleaned the BCM Connectors, it was fine for about 4 months- now it's doing it again... Same thing as before warning lights come on, and everything stops except last night the Keyless Entry would not work at all... This has me stumped and it's annoying having to take it all the time..

View 11 RepliesHaving issues with moisture, or water, in the high brake light, in the spoiler? It appears to be an LED type light. It is still working but, I'm afraid it may short out eventually. It also appears to be fragile! Its an '08 Accent.

View 8 RepliesI have a 2004 Treg with 28k miles. This car has the air suspension and the dashboard with the LCD display.
When the foot pedal break is released, the break light remains on and the center display sounds off the alarm that the foot break is on as the car begins to roll.
After half dozen additional pulls of the break release handle, the issue goes away. This is now happening almost every time the foot break is used.
