What's the easiest way to get access to the ac clutch coil without removing the compressor. How do you get to the coil? how many snap rings are there?
View 3 RepliesWhat to do Misfire Error all cylinders also coil code P0356 . It is 2006 Avalon Ltd with 37,000 miles always maintained and all recalls completed. Is there something I missed or is this for real or could there be a common problem that is causing all the errors. Car idles ok and no problem driving below 60 mph anything over and you can fell a shutter like it will lose power.
View 14 RepliesI have a question regarding oil burning by the 2GR-FE V6. My avalon is a 2006 xls/navi, 160 000 km, very well maintained, only synthetic oil changes (AMSOL 5w-30, but switching to 10w-30 now that the oil burning began). All the recalls were done on it already, it was dealer maintained till 65k then I took over when we bought the car. The only other issue I had with it were the 3 consecutive ignition coil failures (by the way, you must replace those with oem toyota parts, I tried saving money on aftermarket and the results were discouraging).
View 2 RepliesThe 2005 Avalon has 48K miles and it's been running well without any issues, until today.
Driving in city traffic, max speed is about 30 ml/h, The "Check Engine" light and the "VSC (Vehicle Slip Control) Off" lights came on. I did stop the engine, restarted after couple of minutes and the same lights stayed on. The car ran just fine, no noticeable difference in performance.
With the OBDCOM reader, the Avalon has this code:
P0351 232
P0351 Ignition coil A primary/secondary circuit malfunction
That seems to indicate a malfunction for cylinder A, or #1, ignition coil that has nothing to do with the "VSC" AFAIK. Is this a misread by OBDCOM reader, or the Avalon is confused?
The code had been reset via the OBDCOM reader, the car runs fine, neither of the lights come on now. Should I do something about coil A, or just wait until the code comes back?
Looks like I'll be late for work today.. damn it's cold.. the temp needle went up to hot I immediately cut it off. It shouldn't have hurt her right?
View 9 RepliesI have a 2009 Avalon XLS with about 60,000 miles. While my wife was driving home from work today the following happened:
AC compressor off (blows hot air), temp gauge not operating, abs light on, brake light on, avg. mileage and distance to empty display displays blanks, shift indicator on dash not lighting.
Rest of dash works fine, audio works, lights work, car runs fine.
I tried finding a common fuse, but really don't know what to look for.
My 2006 Toyota Avalon Limited AC clutch is not engaging and I am wondering how I can bypass the computer to engage it. I think I have low pressure and I will be recharging the AC with freon.
View 7 RepliesJust noticed yesterday that the compressor clutch does not disengage while the air conditioner is on. It is 2005 V6 Sonata Elite. All the other cars I have ever owned had compressor clutches that cycle. Internet searches indicate that there might be air conditioners with only a low-pressure switch.
View 2 RepliesI've been having issues with my 2000 Toyota Avalon for the past few days. After troubleshooting with my mechanic this morning, we discovered that the front three ignition coils (when looking at the car from the front bumper) do not function when the car idles. However, they seem to work perfectly once the RPM increases past about 2500. I bought some new ignition coils to replace the originals, but no joy with those. The idle is still very rough and one can feel the misfire any time the engine is not revving higher than 2500 RPM. During our tests, we also found that the original coils do not produce a spark when the spark plugs are inserted. I did the same test with the new coils and had the same result, although the middle plug sparked briefly. The fuse for the ignition coils has been checked (it's fine). I know it must be electrical but was wondering where exactly the problem lies?
View 3 RepliesI have a 1999 F-250 SuperDuty with a 7.3L. I need to replace the field coil on my AC compressor due to a broken connector (long story). After I remove the belt and compressor clutch, what is the next step to get the pulley off so that I can then replace the field coil? I am a computer geek by trade so I need clear steps. I looked on youtube, but all I found was how to adjust or replace the compressor clutch or the entire compressor.

View 10 RepliesMy daughter has a 2003 Saturn Vue 2.2 and it seems that the clutch if froze up... I have checked Freon level with a gauge that I use to top of Freon and seems ok... the vehicle has 170,000 thousand miles... are these compressors prone to failure and is there a "Quick Fix" without replacing compressor, orphis tube and dryer?
View 3 RepliesMy son has a S-10, 4.3 liter where the A/C compressor clutch or bearings occasionly freeze up. By that I mean the serpentine belt rotates, but the ac pulley freezes up. It amazes me that it hasn't broken the belt so far, but surely it will soon.
My question is, can he buy or shorter belt and bypass the ac altogether, as he never uses it, or replace the ac compressor with an idler pulley per the no ac 4.3 liter configuration? He really doesn't want to put a lot of money into the truck at this point as he is in college.
My 97 regal has a noise from the compressor clutch. It goes away when the a/c is turned on. Mechanic said its the clutch assembly. Is this easy to change? What causes the noise to go away when the a/c is turned on?
View 6 Repliesif the fan doesn't work, could this make the AC compressor clutch not engage? I think the fan is burned out because it doesn't spin at all, and only moves with a lot of effort. If the fan circuit is open, will this cause the Compressor to not work as well? the car is a 1991 740 GL. 2.3L engine, non turbo.
View 3 RepliesThe other day, I had the death triangle come up, it's done it 4 times since I have owned it, anyway got the triangle to go off, but now the AC works some of the time, and sometimes not, the lights are not blinking.
I put a new ac pump/compressor on about 3 yrs ago, been good till now, took it to a ac shop, evaced the stuff, put new in, same thing, he said the clutch/compressor was working good, cleaned out the filter, really dirty, was hoping that was the problem, worked good last nite, did probably 10 miles with it, but not really cold/cold air, I have not checked the belt yet, also, sometimes when I come up to a corner, it will like chug up to the stop, like maybe the compressor clutch is kicking in/out. This is the car we use a lot in the summer for the fact of leaving it idle while we are in the store, for our dogs, so it gets lots of use. Also, when the air buttons are on, motor (engine) will shut off the on, when its not blowing cold air.
My a/c is weak and the compressor clutch is on all the time. What causes that?
View 14 RepliesI have recently bought a R32 2008, and when trying to turn the AC I don't hear the AC compressor clutch clicking, the fans are running normally (radiator fans ). What should I check ? Someone told me that maybe it's a compressor problem, and another one said that if the refrigerant gas is low the clutch won't be engaged.
View 3 RepliesSo clutch doesn't engage and compressor is not running. I have 12-13v at the low pressure switch and the same at the high. When I jump the low pressure I don't get any voltage at all at the plug that controls the relay for the clutch.
Where I'm confused is:
Is this a low pressure problem - gauge is reading 60psi on the accumulator
Or
Is this electrical somewhere?
I just picked up a '94 7.3 IDI Turbo, and I can't figure out what ails the AC. It appears that there should be enough refrigerant (according to my recharge kit), but the compressor clutch will not engage. I have checked the fuses, and all are fine. All other HVAC functions are normal. Is there a way to test the compressor?
View 5 RepliesI'm using a compressor clutch kit to try and pull off the compressor clutch plate from my '96 LT1. Using the tools I got the clutch plate almost all the way off but then it stalled. I've broken every one of the remover screws trying to get it off the last bit. I'm considering picking up a 3 jaw puller to get the job done.
