Camry :: 2011 LE - Suspension Starts Creaking / Clunking And Rattling Literally Every Time It Rains

Oct 9, 2011

After going through a 1996 avalon, 2003 sequoia, 2004 tundra, 2004 highlander, 1978 celica, and a 1990 4runner i decided to buy myself a beautiful new 2011 camry LE.

I have had the car now for under 6 months i've put under 10k miles on it.

Already the front left strut has been replaced. Right rear strut has been replaced.

Now the front left strut needs replacing less than 2000 miles later again!

The car is pretty fun to drive but seriously...every time it rains i have to replace my suspension. it starts creaking and clunking and rattling literally every time it rains.

Every time it as rained. my car goes to the dealership and gets outfitted for new strut somewhere! I don't know why my car is giving me these kind of issues. its not very toyota like.

Golf IV / Jetta IV :: 2003 Suspension Creaking / Clunking Noise

How to diagnose this creaking/clunking noise in my 03 Jetta TDI. It's only coming from the passenger side, and I primarily notice it at low speed on relatively uneven roads. I can replicate the noise by pushing up and down on the front passenger side corner.

For context, this started after I just recently replaced my front and rear suspension, plus some steering parts. I replace all four struts with Koni yellows, front CA bushings (with R32/TT), ball joints, tie rod ends, front strut bushings and bearings, and passenger side CV axle. In response to the noise, I also just did the front sway bar bushings, which definitely needed it, but didn't change the noise. I also removed the CV axle and re-greased the inner CV joint--to no avail.

Also, when I have the hood open and push up and down on the front of the car, I can see the cup where the top strut nut goes into will go up and down separate and apart from the body. The driver's side stays in line with the body when I try to the same on that side. Also, that cup is tight on the passenger side, whereas it will spin fairly freely on the drivers side. So, this has lead me to think that perhaps I didn't torque either or both of the top or inner strut nuts on the passenger side.

Here's a (fairly crappy) video of the noise/strut cup .....

Ford Brakes/Suspension :: Clunking And Rattling In Front End

I have had a clunk in the front end that started out as a light clunk that was sometimes noticeable. It has now turned into a clunk that can be heard very often. It sounds like a hollow clunk. I'll try to explain it so it makes sense...If I'm going over a bump or speed bump or something like that it doesn't really do it noticeably. If I'm driving a get to a place where the road is uneven or there is a hole or pothole and the front end seems to "fall into the hole", then the sound is very audible, and I can feel it slightly in the steering wheel and under my feet in the drivers floorboard. So, I've had the front end checked out 4 times and between what they said to do and what I've read on here...here is what I've done so far......

Changed end links with moog end links
Changed sway bar bushings with moog bushings
Undid the bushing mounts from the front frame and wired the sway bar up to keep from flopping around. No change in sounds
Didn't get rid of the clunk....

Had front end shop check out truck... They said ball joints were ok, no play in them. They did say that they could feel some "clicking in the pitman arm pivot" when turning the wheel. Like something was loose in box.

I've changed shocks and bearings.

I can grab a hold of the passenger outer tie rod at the adjustment sleeve and rotate the tir rod and it will rotate around in the socket and hitting on the insertion point and make a metal thud sound.

Again, took into shop and they said that would be normal b/c the tie rods have to have that to keep from binding up in front end.

My thinking is that if the tie rod rotates that much, then it is rotating the drag link which in turn puts stress on the pitman arm which in turn has either broken or sheared the pinion shaft inside the box and then when I go over a hole, it moves and all of the above is put into motion.

Shop (Ford) basically called me an idiot and that wouldn't be the cause.

So, now onto my thoughts and questions....
Radius arm bushings
Axle bushings (????? how many and where are they all located)
tie rods and drag links..

Lexus LS 2007+ :: Suspension Rattling Clunking Sound On LS460

Why my suspension is so loud and clunky are doing a swaybar link and upper control arm replacement? I did remove the air suspension unit in order to access and remove the bolts that hold the upper control arm bracket mount onto the frame.

I did not think that would do any harm. Now my suspension is way louder than it ever was to begin with.. I just did a visual inspection and saw that my original parts were cracked and worn in the bushings and links. So I did a swap.

Toyota - Camry :: 2000 XL - Water Leak On Left Driver Foot Every Time It Rains

Every time it rains the carpet is very wet by the left drivers foot. I have cleaned out the drain behind the front wheel and used a heavy gauge plastic mono line to clean out the drain for the moon roof. Unfortunately it still becomes wet. My next area to check is the drain from the area at the bottom of the windshield. How that can be done? 2000 Camry XL....

Dodge - Challenger :: 2011 - Loud Creaking And Clunking While Braking And Steering

I have a 2011 Dodge Challenger SE/Rallye Redline with 76k miles

All of a sudden while I was out shopping, it started creaking and clunking somewhat loudly on the front driver's side when coming to a stop. I could feel a weird subtle clunk in the brake pedal as the sound happened. There was a more gentle clunk in the gas pedal as I took off from a full stop. As I made my way home, the sound progressively got louder and louder. When I was close to home, the sound got so horrible to the point that it began clunking on every other bump and began creaking and clunking VERY LOUDLY while steering and turning.

The last work I had done was replacing my front tires, front rotors, brake pads and drivers side calipers in December. At first I thought it was a caliper issue, but as the sound got worse and seemed to be more underneath the front end more than the wheel area, I sort of ruled it out. What could it possibly be?

Tiguan :: 2012 - Clunking / Rattling Noise Coming From Front Passenger Side Suspension Arm

I just purchased my first VW, a 2012 Tiguan SE in Night Blue Metallic. The level of fit and finish, handling, and general feel are miles ahead of my old '04 Jeep Liberty.

Anyway, I've had the car for about 250 miles and have noticed a clunking/rattling noise coming from what sounds like the front passenger side suspension arm. The noise is fairly quiet but seems to consistently happen when turning left over uneven pavement.

I plan on taking it to the dealer this weekend and it is only a minor annoyance, but a shame since the rest of the vehicle is so quiet and refined.

Sonata I45 (YF - 2011+) :: Creaking Noise From Rear Suspension?

Sometime back I had posted that I was getting a minor creaking noise which occurred mainly when I was slowly making right hand turns. At that time the conjecture was it was caused by the mounting tabs (used when the car is assembled) on the rear suspension. The solution was to drop the suspension and file off the tabs. But then I saw at least one other post that said the cause was something else.

Well the minor annoyance has become a major annoyance since it has gotten progressively worse. Before I resort in taking ot to the dealer I'd like to see if I can figure it out and fix it myself. But before I tackle that job I thought I would ask others who had this problem what it turned out to be.

Camry :: Chattering / Creaking / Clunking / Tire Wear And Vibration

I have a 2003 Toyota Camry XLE that has had the following issues.

1) When going over speed bumps you can hear a very loud creaking in the front and rear and occasionally a clunk in the rear.

2) When driving on rough or bumpy roads you can hear a metallic chattering coming from the driver's side.

3) There is a vibration in the car that I can't pinpoint but I was told the front rotors are slightly warped and that could be causing it, thoughts?

4) I put brand new tires on in January and it has less than 10,000 miles on them but they already look like they need to be replaced. They are Michelin Hydro-edge tires. I have had it balanced/rotated at 6,000 miles as well as an alignment. Nothing was said to me about any problems by the tire place when I had it done a few months back, which I find odd.

5) When turning into parking spots or turning at low-speed in general, especially when turning right, I sometimes hear the tires squealing.

I was going to go ahead and replace all 4 struts, strut mounts, strut boots, rear sway bars, all 4 rotors and brake pads. But I wanted to make sure that this would fix the problem.

Do I need to get the front Driver/Passenger CV Half Shaft Drive Axle assemblies? Are there any other parts that need to be replaced that could fix the issue? (Tie Rods? Ball Joints? etc?) Are there any other parts you'd recommend replacing while working on the car? I tried searching but could not find anything that specifically matched the problems.

Sonata I45 (YF - 2011+) :: Loud Groaning / Creaking Noise Coming From Front Suspension Area

2011 GLS 2.4L auto, 40K, out of warranty

There is a loud groaning/creaking noise coming from the front suspension area. At low speeds, this noise dominates all other noises and is directly related to hitting the gas or pressing the brakes, which produces a forward or backward force on the front suspension and chassis. I can sometimes hear it briefly just by pushing against the parked car.

My hope is that I can just tighten up some bolts and make this go away, but other posts suggest it may be struts, stabilizer links or other non-obvious sources.

Elantra MD (2010-15) :: 2011 - Clunking Noise In Front Suspension

I have been frustrated with my Elantra's handling from the time I purchased. I feel that the car is setup poorly and has design/OEM part issues.

I have improved the rear-end "hop" issue by replacing the OEM rear shocks with the KYB Gas-A-Just's -- a big improvement in handling the bumps. But the rear-end solid axle on such a light car is just crap...

I have developed quite a bit of 'clunking' noise in the front suspension.

I am considering replacing the front-end shock-strut assemblies with KYBs -- I'd love to hear if it made a big difference. Also wondering if I should change-out the 'sway bar link' while replacing the shock/struts.

I'm just so frustrated with the way this car handles (I've driven Subaru's, Honda's, and VW's) compared to other cars. I feel it's a combination of low-quality OEM suspension parts, rear solid axle, light weight, crappy electric steering settings, and tires that are too wide and too low-profile for such a light car. (I have the limited with 17 wheels).

Camry :: 2004 - Rear Suspension Starts To Clunk

Every year about his time for the last six years my 04 rear suspension starts to clunk. Sounds like a spring trying to reseat itself. I will raise the rear end, slide under on my 40 year old car, shake out of the suspension components and won't discern a thing. Never have been able to reproduce that clunking. I suspect it is the spring seats. By April, the clunking will be gone so I think the ambient temp has something to do with the noise. The strut mounts seem to be tight to the body so is the wear in the spring isolator or other components?

Camry :: 2011 SE - Metal Clunking Noise Whenever Go Over Bumps

Have a 2011 SE with just over 21k miles on it.

Problem #1: When ever I go over bumps, go down my drive way, I hear this rather loud noise coming from either the roof or right rear. It sounds like someone is hitting metal with a hammer.

It happens when I'm turning the wheel or just driving straight.

Problem #2: Also when I am going over a speed bump, when the rear of the car goes over it, the suspension gets squeaky. Speeds are about 2-3 mph~

Unfortunately, it is no longer under factory warranty so taking it to the dealer is my last option.

Toyota - Camry :: 1990 Takes Literally 3 Minutes To Engage Reverse

A140E transaxle issue... I have what I surmise is a direct clutch engagement issue. It takes (literally) 3 or MINUTES to engage reverse. And obviously the 2 -3 shift is slow also. It acts like there is a restriction in the passage to the direct piston. I rebuilt about 5 years ago, so am familiar with the teardown.
