We just bought a 2012 se and my wife has been saying it makes a clunk sound while backing up. Sometimes it does it over bumps. It sounds over my head and behind me when driving it. Almost in the pillar area of the back. Anything I can look at. Not taking it to the dealer yet, not a fan of our local place.
View 8 RepliesI have an intermittent "clunk" noise that appears to be coming from up in the rear roof area when I go a gentle bump (like going over uneven pavement pulling into driveway). It's almost as if there is a large ball bearing up there that rolls around and clunks every once in a while. I've tried opening/closing the sun roof and have bounced up and down on the rear of the vehicle to try to replicate... but no luck.. It's almost as if something hits the roof when going over a bump... but there's nothing there that hit the roof...
View 14 RepliesI just had the left front strut replaced by an independent shop. Afterwards they noticed that pressing the brakes after backing up produces a single 'clunk' sound from the front. Not sure if it's from the left or right. Also not sure if it was doing this before the repair and didn't notice, or it just started. It only happens once, although I haven't tried backing up twice in a row.

View 2 RepliesTook in 4 months ago for the body flex popping. Repaired per the TSB with roof shims. While doing so the dealership creased my roof liner, got grease on my roof shade, scratched the overhead console , and left a scratch on the Nav trim bezel. Needless to say I flipped out! All were replaced at the expense to the dealer. Wife saw the bill which was $2k-billed under warranty repair as apposed to sloppy workmanship in the service department.
Apparently tried to fold the roof liner and left a small crease according to them....actually it was 2ft long on the drivers side. Before they put the new liner in I suggested just pull the seats and center console so they didn't crease the new liner,amazingly it worked. They had my car for a total of 8 days on two separate occasions. I guess I can be a certified tech now.
A month after the popping was gone but a rattle developed on the same side(driver's side). After inspecting I noticed that the roof was off kilter and misaligned slightly. Wife said to let it go till the next oil change which is tomorrow at a different dealership. Apparently there is yet another fix with felt tape or something. Car is only 10 months old and I am about to loose my mind with all the rattles and noises on the cheap plastic interior. On a side note, I just got myself a new 2013 Accord EX-l. It may not be as sporty as my wife's Camry but boy is the fit and finish on the interior done right. Yes there is still plastic but its not the cheap feeling,light weight brushed steel crap that is in my Camry.

Pretty much every time I back up and turn, I hear one loud, single pop from the front end. Occasionally, it will happen when I start forward from a stop (if turning) but that's it. It never happens at any other time. I can't decide if it's suspension or steering related. Where could this be coming from?
I have gone through the front end thoroughly and the only issue I find is my passenger inner CV boot has begun to crack and has lost some grease. I would expect a CV failure to click anytime I'm moving and turning. Again, I never hear this noise under any other circumstances.
Our 2008 Rav4 (4 cylinder) has on more than one occasion come up with a loud clunking sound when backing up our steep (~ 20% grade) driveway. It feels like it has popped out of gear or even into a forward gear. The first time it happened (a couple of months ago) it was taken directly to the dealer who found nothing. It happened again today - on two attempts to back up the driveway. If the phenomenon correlates with anything, it's higher air temperatures and after a longish (> 30 minute) drive. Any clues?
View 5 RepliesI get an audible clunk/thud noise when I go over a dip or bump in the road. The sound only comes from the passenger side front wheel and only happens once when the car is cold. It almost sounds like a strut mount or something. I've just been living with it but recently the noise has happened when the car is warmed up. The driver side front does not make this sound. It is not the ABS self check noise that some people hear.

Seems that's the most common place ppl are having this type of issue with. What it could be? My mechanic wont be able to look at it till Friday. So not sure on what to do. The sound only happens when I'm hitting bumps on the road.
View 6 RepliesI have a '13 SE that I purchased new last year and recently I've noticed a noise in my steering when I am turning the wheel at slow speeds.
It's like a clunking or knocking noise when I turn the wheel either right or left all the way. I'm totally clueless as to what could cause this sort of noises.
Recently, when turning while the car is in reverse, I started noticing a popping sound coming from the area near my right front tire. Now, when I accelerate quickly from a dead stop or drive away after being stopped on a hill, I'm hearing that same popping/clunk noise from the right front tire. When I'm stopped at a light and then take my foot off the brake, wait a second, and then gently accelerate, I don't hear it. I've had a couple of mechanics take a look at the cv boot for the right front tire, but they tell me that it's not cracked or broken. Is it possible that the cv joint has gone bad, but the boot is not broken? Or, is there something else going on?
View 4 RepliesMy 03 Camry LE has a weird clunk/rattle in the rear driver side only. This happens when i go over bad portion of road, not like potholes just uneven bad road. When the suspension moves quickly. Car has no weight in back. It sounds like something metal is loose in that side, the other side is tight and makes no noise. The struts were replaced in january by previous owner, someone told me it was the rear links which i replaced and still same issue, checked sway bar bushings and those are good.
View 14 RepliesI have a 2012 Touareg TDI Lux which I absolutely love for so many reasons. Since almost day one my brakes squeek when I back up only. I now have 6200 miles on my vehicle and it drives me nuts. It can be wet, dry, backing up fast or slow and it shrieks.
Just dropped by my local dealer and was told it is something to do with the pads seating which is BS after 6200 miles.
I feel the sound of my engine is not right ,so I upload it...is it okay or bad ?or I m just being toooo sensitive ?

View 14 RepliesIt seems that many 2012/2013 Camry owner with sunroof has popping sound issue. Based on reading threads that are already out there it either happens right away or after 10,000+ miles of ownership when outdoor temp gets cold or driving over a bump. What is not clear is, too me, if this issue happens to majority of Camry owner with sunroof or minority. I for one own a 2013 Camry with sunroof with almost 3000 miles on it but I do not have this issue. Was wondering if Camry owner with sunroof can chime here whether or you have this issue and how many miles you have on the vehicle. What percentage of Camry with sunroof are having this issue.
