Corolla / Matrix 2009-13 :: Rear Brake Making Noise

May 12, 2011

I have a 2009 matrix 1.8 automatic with 103,000km on it. The brakes were making a noise so I pulled off the front wheels and inspected and cleaned the front brakes which were in great shape. I pulled the rear wheels and found that the outer disc pads were wearing on about a 30 degree angle. The inners were just fine! I've been doing brakes for over 40 years and have never seen this! Also, the rears don't work hard and should outlast the fronts by at least 2! I called Toyota Canada and they blew me off until I asked to talk to someone higher up! They are doing a technical review, but I believe they will tell me it's just my car! I think it's a design flaw!

Corolla / Matrix 2009-13 :: Brake Pedal Spongy And Making Hissing Sound

2009 XRS ABS brakes .... I changed all four brake pads and flushed out most of the old brake fluid. Bled all four sides. But now while I am in idle (like waiting for a light to turn) my brake pedal is spongy and is making a hissing sound. All was good before I did this job.

Corolla / Matrix 2009-13 :: 2010 LE Making Click Noise While Steering

Our 2010 LE has been making a noise while steering. When you steer it left and right, it clicks. Regardless of whether the vehicle is moving or not, it still clicks. It sounds like its coming from under the upper steering column cover behind the steering wheel.

Corolla / Matrix 2009-13 :: Brakes Making Noise After Cold Start

Is it possible for the brakes to make some kind of noise when it's cold outside?

I've been noticing some kind of noise after a cold start, I'd drive the car a little bit then apply the brakes and it would just make this random noise coming from the front-right side of the car. It sounds like a grinding noise, but I can't really tell. It doesn't create an issue either, I'll let go of the steering wheel and the car doesn't drift in any direction at all, the noise appears but the car is slowing down properly.

The noise disappears though after the 1st time it happens, and would only reappear after you've turned the car off, parked it where it's cold and it would only appear after not using it for at least 2 hours. My dad already took it to the dealership and they said the brakes are perfectly fine.

Corolla / Matrix 2009-13 :: Throw Out Bearing Making Faint Chirping Noise

My throw out bearing makes a faint chirping noise since I bought the car, but now that the weather has been in teens, it seems to be louder.

I was wondering if it is possible to grease the throw out bearing or something without dropping the transmission.

Corolla / Matrix 2009-13 :: Right Rear Brake Pad Is Wearing Unevenly

On my 2009 Matrix XR (2.4L), my right rear brake pad is wearing unevenly. I'm up to 87000 km (54000 miles). My first pad change was one year ago. I kept the pads and only noticed this time that the wear was at an angle on the outer pad, both times.

The inner pad is ok.

Corolla / Matrix 2009-13 :: Rear Brake On Driver Side Squeaking

My 2009 Toyota Corolla LE is squeaking. The noise is coming from its rear break -- driver side. It happens only at a low speed when pressing the brake half way to slow down the car until it stops. Only 60-70% of the time though that it has the noise and only when going slow in the traffic and hit the brake. It doesn't seem to squeak on the highway.

The car has about 40k miles. I've heard that the rear brakes suppose to last ~100k miles. My questions and concerns are:

1. Is it too soon to replace rear drum breaks?
2. How to check the rear break pads to see if I really need to change them?
3. Are they just dirty? How to clean the rear breaks?
4. Finally, if I really need to replace them, how much does it cost in general?

I wish they were dish brakes -- so much easier to replace them.

Corolla / Matrix 2009-13 :: 2010 - Rear Brake Light Burnt Out

My dad has a 2010 Matrix base model, and we can't seem to get the driver's side burnt out bulb out. I did a Google/Bing search, as well as Youtube, but most results were about the Corolla, and the Matrix and Corolla have 2 different tail lights.

Corolla / Matrix 2009-13 :: Toyota Making A Loud Grinding Metallic Noise On Front Left Side

I have a 2009 Toyota Corolla and it's making a loud grinding metallic noise on the front left side. It does it while I drive the faster I go the louder it gets. When I turn to the left it makes it louder, when I turn right the noise decreases. PG&E have been breaking the roads by where I live and there's a lot of little rocks I drive thru. I'm wondering if that's the problem?? What do I do?

Corolla / Matrix 2009-13 :: Buzzing Noise After Replacing Brake Fluid

Last Thursday Nov 22nd, I took my 2010 Corolla for a regular oil change service by an Toyota agent. The service representative recommended to have the brake fluid replace since it had already 39000 km since new. I agreed.

The same evening, I start hearing a strange high pitch noise from the front while braking light at low speed. It does not occur all the time. I did a search in this forum about the brake noise.

That strange high pitch noise could come from the ABS actuator when it activates or modulates at that light braking.

I did a visual check on the bleeding nipples of the brakes today. It seems that the two nipples for rear brake were untouched and this would mean they did not bleed the rear brakes and air could be trapped in the rear brake lines.

Will take the car back the Toyota service. As search from our forum, the cause for the abnormal modulating of the ABS actuator could be :

(a) a bad speed sensor or
(b) air trapped in the brake line.

Since it starts at the same day of replacing the brake fluid, the most likely cause is air trapped in the brake line.

Corolla / Matrix 2009-13 :: Humming Noise Coming From Rear Passenger Side When Accelerated Up To 30mph

ok so i noticed recently that there was this humming noise coming the rear right passenger side everytime i accelerated up to 30mph. the noise would get louder the faster i go. i got it checked by a shop and they told me that it had something to do with my wheel bearing. my car is lowered on coil covers and I have negative camber on my wheels. Why its making this humming noise or if its because i never got my alignments. I am thinking of throwing my stock suspension back in and letting the dealership deal with it since my car is still under warranty.

Corolla / Matrix 2009-13 :: 2012 - Steering Column Making Clicking Sounds?

I just bought a new corolla a few weeks ago, (Build Date April 2012), so far the car is great except for one issue.

I've noticed when pulling out parking spaces the steering column makes a clicking noise. It sounds more like a plastic noise. My last car had to have intermediate steering shaft lubed every 40k (Pontiac) but it was more of a "clunk" sound. This is more plastic on plastic noise however this appears to be only when the wheel is about 1/2 turn from the "end" or all the way left, or all the way right.

I am trying to figure out if this is a "normal" sound or if something was not put together right. Here is a video .....

I have an 09 corolla S with 119000 miles.

My car shakes when i brake on the freeway and I just got new tires so Im sure it must be the rotors.

Is it better to just get new rotors or have a shop machine the old ones down.

Which way is more cost effective?? and how hard would it be to install them myself?

Corolla / Matrix 2009-13 :: Squealing And Screeching When Brake In Reverse

So I have a 2010 corolla s with 30k miles. I replaced my rotors and pads about 2 weeks ago to get rid of this problem. The problem was gone for a week and now it's back. I get tons of squealing and screeching when I brake in reverse.

Corolla / Matrix 2009-13 :: Intermittent Front Brake Squealing

Basically, whenever I brake, my front brakes squeal. But they only do this if I use about 25% to 33% force. If I press on the pedal harder, the squealing goes away and the same if I reduce the force.

I replaced my pads with Wagner ThermoQuiet pads in March 2015. The noise started a month or 2 after replacing my pads, and I've only put about 12k miles on them. I had my car in a couple weeks ago for an oil change, and the inspection showed that the pads still had plenty of life on them. I brought it up to the service advisor, and he suggested that my rotors might be warped and need to be machined. The problem with that is I feel absolutely no vibration in my brake pedal that would indicate warpage.

So the only other thing I can think of is the shims might be causing the noise. I was going to get some grease and apply that and see if it works. Also, when I was replacing the pads I bled out a little more brake fluid than I intended. But it hasn't seemed to affect my braking ability so I ruled that out.

Any guesses for what might cause this? Like I said, I have plenty of material left on the pads and I can stop without problems, so it's not a safety issue, just a tad annoying.
