2016 Elantra GT. 400km on car. Just this weekend dash started squeaking while driving. Noise gone when stopped. But comes back while moving. Do these car have a speedo cable. That's what it sounds like.
View 3 RepliesI've been noticing some new noises in my Elantra in the last couple of months.
First, there's a clunking noise that sounds like it's coming from the steering area. It usually happens when I back up and rotate the steering wheel, like when I back out of my parking spot. More often it's in the morning.
Second, when I turn the fan on there is a high pitched squeal. If you turn the fan off you can hear the squeal more clearly for a moment as the fans die down. This one only started happening in the last couple of weeks.
I guess I'll have to take it in and get them to take a look. Last year it was a squeaking in the pano roof which only happened when it was hot out. They seemed to have lessened it but it wasn't gone completely.
So, I think the glovebox lid, with the integrated air bag, is too heavy. My dash squeak around the glove box, particularly near the latch. I think the lid is too heavy and pulls on the latch, and this is causing some of the adhesive behind the trim to squeak. The noise stops if I (or the passenger) pushes on the area or if I open the glove box.
View 5 RepliesI going crazy over this mad squeak in the bottom and back portions of my driver's seat. Several squeaks happen during regular driving and cornering. I weigh 215, but come on!!
Also the dash rattles, especially in the morning. It's right on top, in the middle, above the controls. I can push down and make it stop. I figure, I gotta pull off the dash plates and look underneath, but I'll take easier alternatives.
Odd problem has arisen in my wife's Passat. It's a sort of "chirp" or squeak that seems to be coming from underneath the passenger side dash. It only makes the noise while moving (whether it's 1mph or 100mph) but it's still intermittent and doesn't seem to happen under and exact driving conditions (happens most frequently when turning at low speeds, but can also happen rolling straight down the highway).
My first though would be the blower motor, sometimes it happens with the A/C off. I took it to the shop a few weeks ago and of course it stopped making the noise on the way there and it started back up on the way back. So now it's in the shop again.. Anyway, I managed to catch it on video [URL] ....
I have been hearing a loud squeek coming from the wheels in the front. It sounds like a brake wear bar but isn't it a little early to replace the pads already? I searched the forum last night briefly and found some threads where people commented the brakes should last much much longer than 50000.
I do not ride my brakes and I don't think I am hard on them. They still work great and do not feel worn. The noise is constant (not only when i turn the wheel) and it goes away after a certain speed.
So recently after new tires installed and alignment done (1 month ago) I noticed a squeak/creaking sound while driving (0-40MPH) if i turn my wheel right a little it will squeak. It sound like its coming from the right side rear wheel. Prior to tire/alignment i had my brakes changed and resurfaced the rotors (2 months ago). My car is a 2013 chrysler 200. I noticed the noise a day after the alignment but not sure if it was happening after the brakes.
View 19 RepliesWhere another 09 owner had what he thought was a cold weather related squeak coming from the passenger side dash / windshield area. Mine does this and it's highly annoying. Here's what I've observed:
- seems to happen in cold temps, though I can't say what "cold" is...<40F perhaps?
- noticeable over bumps or whenever the car frame twists as a result of uneven road surface
- source seems to be the dash / windshield interface on the passenger side
- it's *possible* it may be coming from the top of the windshield as well
- it's very noticeable and highly irritating
Either with an 09 or earlier model? I cut a pool noodle and shoved it down between the glass and dash hoping the pressure would relieve whatever is rubbing. It appeared to work until the temps dropped into the 20s. Then it returned. I have a 2009 GLS, 5MT Sonata.
I am trying to diagnose a buzz/squeak/rattle coming from the driver door. Once I press on the door, the noise goes away, so I would like to take the interior trim and leather off the of the door to do some more troubleshooting. How to remove the interior portion of these doors?
View 10 Repliesto explain exactly...Before coming to a complete stop,maybe driving 15-20 mph you can hear a squeek from the brakes.That is without riding the brakes.As soon as i press on the brake pedal eve very softly the sound disapears.Then when i am at a complete stop and slowly take off i will hear it again...eek eek eek.... then by 30mph plus it fades away.
View 5 RepliesI just bought my first car, a 2000 saab 9-3 convertible (base model) a month or so ago. The car had been neglected for the last year or so and I have been spending the last few weeks fixing all its issues. This last weekend I replaced the rear shocks, font struts and the rotors and brake pads on all four wheels. After driving about 20 miles or so I started to notice a squeak coming from the front right wheel well and since has become more and more noticeable/pronounced.
Squeak description:-cyclically increases and decreases in volume with each rotation of the wheel
-the squeak is constant: squeak that gets louder at a certain point in each wheel rotation but is always a certain baseline volume as long as the wheel is turning
-the volume of the squeak is NOT AT ALL effected by braking (EXACT same noise driving as while braking) which leads me to think its has nothing to do with the pads or rotors
-HERE IS THE WEIRD ONE: the squeak disappears completely when driving in reverse!
-the squeak is about the pitch and sound of a cricket, only constant and Ii guess louder.
-the noise is unaffected by turning sharply to the right and left.
Additional details:- I had to use a gear puller to press the axle out of the wheel bearing (was stuck from rust). I hooked to the back of the wheel bearing ( what the lug nuts screw into ) and pressed on the center of the axle. Maybe this could have damaged it or the cv joint?-while I was switching that wheel's strut insert out, the carrier bearing leaked 1 (maybe 1 and a half) teaspoons of grey oil from the larger end of its boot and stretched out an inch or so from the weight of the hanging axle.
Having intermittent starting on Elantra 2013 Key start model ? After over-nite car will not crank only dash lights come on and on third try (after overhead lights out) it starts ok ? I measured my battery after 6 hrs at 35 degree F , I see 12.4 vlts and about 0.09a draw in main neg cable (car not running). Brand new battery on 2/17 - had same trouble when original battery was in . dealer says all electrical DTC ok Batt / alternator charging etc.
View 8 RepliesWhen I turn on the rear wiper there is a clicking sound that comes from the front dash. (click...click... ever time the wiper goes up/down)
I could have sworn I have never heard this noise before (and it is noticeable), but the dealer says it is the relay and it is normal.
I only bring this up because in the Ford I have as a rental while the Elantra is fix makes no noise when you use the rear wiper.
I've had my 2012 Elantra for a year and a half now, and just about a month ago I started noticing a noise coming from the dashboard area on the passenger side. It sounds like a small marble rolling around. I only hear it when I'm taking sharp turns. I've already taken everything out of the glove box, and I checked all of the little compartments in the doors. I even checked under the seats, but I can still hear the noise.
View 18 RepliesI have a 2013 Hyundai Elantra Limited and have noticed a rattle in the front driver's door area near the Dash. It's hard to pinpoint where exactly it is coming from. The rattle can be heard even on smoothish roads and sounds like a little screw or something else is loose or rubbing against something. I checked that sunglasses holder and made sure nothing was in there but the rattle is still there.
View 55 RepliesI have a rattle in the dash up in the middle of the dash kind of in between the two sides of the car and between the window and front so basically right in the middle of the dash, if I slap it with my hand I can make the same sort of rattle so something is loose, bad thing is I dropped by dealership and it didn't do it when I was in the car driving with the service guy but I slapped on the dash and you could here a something loose sound rattle same kind I hear when driving. He said that is normal for things to make noise in there when you tap the dash. About a week ago I had the dirty sock smell coming from my vents so I took out the Cabin Filter and sprayed Lysol in the intake the put a new filter in. This is about the same time the rattle started. I wonder if the Lysol might have made something come loose in the vent system.
View 3 RepliesI have a 2002 Hyundai elantra GT. Since I've got the car last year I've had this intermittent problem with the dash lights coming on every once in a while not really a lot at all. It never bothered me before because they would come on for maybe two minutes then turn off and didn't cause any problems whatsoever.? I think because they were coming on during the day. I never realized it happening at night time. In the last month the lights came on at night time and blew out all my headlights. I replaced them three times already. I read that maybe the alternator is overcharging. I haven't checked anything yet.. I'm very mechanically inclined. Just not with electrical...
View 3 RepliesI got into my car this morning and looked down to notice that the dash trim is beginning to pop loose... I haven't tried to remove this trim before so I don't know how it happened.

I am 1/2 way thru a 2 hour trip driving on interstate 75 in Florida doing about 75mph when all of the sudden I couldn't steer, had no dash lights with the exception of the radio plus the bluetooth still worked and braking was very difficult. I couldn't accelerate, nothing happened when I pushed the gas pedal. Neither turn signal worked but the emergency flashers did. Managed to get it on side of highway but then it got interesting; couldn't shift out of drive and couldn't turn the car off; I could turn the key but nothing happened. After sitting on the side of the road with my foot on the brake pedal for 30 minutes I tried turning the car off again and it magically worked. I sat there for about 10 minutes and thought I would turn the car on and see what happened; turned the key and it fired up like normal and everything was working just fine.
View 42 RepliesFor the 4th time now my cruise control doesn't come on (had the car almost 4 months, with 6500 miles). The main "cruise" light comes on, but when I hit the "set" button nothing happens.
All except one time I had to remove the key before it would work again. One time I kept trying the "set" button and it finally worked. It's so infrequent, they'll never be able to recreate at the dealership. Not sure if I should just try to report it for documentation purposes, so if it happens to be permanent after warrantee expires hopefully it will be covered.
Back in the day, cruise was controlled by vacuum pressure but I don't know if that's the case any longer.
First time Hyundai owner. Just bought a new Elantra 2013 for my soon to be 16 year old daughter. We picked up the car from the dealer last Sunday and the car has about 40 miles on the odometer. Tonight my daughter and I we took it out for a drive and I was driving at a speed of 30 mph and the car suddenly went dead, no power , no lights, simply nothing just complete darkness. I called Hyundai roadside assistance and they towed the car to the dealer. The tow truck driver tried to see if it was battery related and he brought a portable battery and hooked it up to the car's battery but that did nothing to power up or restart the car. This was very scary as it was like an invisible hand just pulled the plug off and switched off the car. I am very worried now as this car is for my daughter and I would hate to think what could happen driving alone or on busy roads, or at night. What could it be?
