Elantra HD (2006-10) :: 2008 - Brakes Very Responsive Needing Only A Light Press To Stop

Mar 9, 2011

Now that Spring is approaching, I am focusing on maintenance for my 2008 Elantra GLS. I have a brake question. When I first bought the car, my brakes were very responsive needing only a lightly press them to stop. I might say they were overly sensitive to the touch. Anyway, I since replaced both the front and rear pads since then. I am about ready to change the fronts again. Now when I press the brake pedal, I need to apply much more pressure to stop. My question is how do I get them back to where they were when I bought the car....meaning light pressure to stop the car?

Ford - Taurus :: Transmission Shifts From 2nd To 1sr Gear When Press On Brakes To Stop

I have a 1995 Ford Taurus when I press on the brake to come to a complete stop the transmission slips from second gear to first gear. But when I press on the gas and go from 1st to 2nd gear its a hard shift but no slipping. I checked the transmission fluid it was low and dark so I replenished the fluid and put in this slip and seal stuff in the transmission. What else can I do and how long do you think I will be able to drive my car until it dies completely?

Ford Excursion :: Lost Brakes - If Press The Pedal To Floor At Low Speed Vehicle Eventually Stop

So tonight, I lost most of my brakes. If I kept at low speeds and pressed the pedal to the floor I could eventually stop, but not well. I imagine this might be more of a general question not specific to Ex's, but I thought I would start here.

Dodge - Grandcaravan :: 2008 - Keeps Needing To Be Jump Started

We have had 5 instances over the past 2 months where we have had to have someone jump start the van for us. Two of the times the van was not running and the seat warmers were in use for 15 minutes with the key in ACC mode, when it came time to start the van it would not start, nothing would come on, battery completely dead. Another instance we were sitting waiting for pizzas to be done so we had a movie playing on the VES system, again with the key on ACC mode, the battery seemed completely dead again. The most recent instances the lights in the van came on but when trying to start it there was a clicking sound from under the hood, but the automatic headlights and interior lights all came on (battery not dead), so I hooked up the portable battery charger/jump starter and jumped it. It started right up, but the radio reset to the defauly of 12:00......

I had it to Auto Zone.and they tested the electrical system and found noting out of the ordinary... Could it be a bad started? Bad Cells in the battery?

Sonata NF (2006-10) :: Tinkering Noise When Press The Brakes And Turn The Wheel

What's going on. Out the past 2 months or so I've been getting this creak/tinkering noise weird to explain when ever I would press the brakes and turn the wheel while at the dealer getting my idler pulley replaced under warranty I told the service writer who passed it on to the tech after I got the car back still made the noise they said my brake pads were separating a little that was causing the noise yesterday I was waxing my car and I started to clean the wheels and then scrubbed the capiler a little I noticed the brake clips looked nasty I went to clean them and while doing that I heard the same kind of noise that was my issue I sprayed a little wd/40 on the clips and wala my noise in gone I was thinking since here in NJ we got so much snow and they use salt maybe the salt dried up any grease on the clips and that was causing my noise I plan on getting new pads soon regardless but this solved my issue of the noise.

Sonata NF (2006-10) :: Grinding Noise That Would Stop When Press The Clutch In

Long story..couple months ago while coming home my 08 Sonata 2.4L manual 84,000 miles...started making this grinding noise and would stop when I pressed the clutch in and then sounded like something was grinding near the passenger front wheel.. well I get it home and the next morning my husband and I ride up the road so he can hear it.. was going to take it to the shop but it stopped and ran just fine till the other day.. crank the car and its fine.. once it gets warmed up and a few miles down the road it makes a knocking noise...but only when I let off the gas or idling .. even pressing on the gas just a tiny bit made it stop (even tried in while parked in the driveway with the hood up to make sure the engine wasn't just drowning it out) well I took it to the local dealership today and they said it was the flywheel and that it and the clutch and bearing needed to be replaced..

Lexus IS 2014+ :: Brakes Does Not Feel Responsive / Snappy - Making Clamping Noise

Is it possible for the IS200t brakes to malfunction? My car is only 1600 miles and the brake doesn't feel responsive/snappy. It feels like the car is very heavy to brake anywhere from 10 - 40 mph. I have to step on the brake pedal deep to feel the brakes. I don't feel that pump (I think it's called hydralics) feel when I step on the brakes. Even at 20mphs, the braking doesn't feel sensitive. Is it possible for some brake parts to break. I think one time when I was going down hill, I stepped on it really hard to stop at the bottom at the stop light and it made some weird clamping noise.

Elantra HD (2006-10) :: 2008 - Blue Light Blinks / Clicks On Once In A While Even When AC Shut Off

I just bought a 2008 Elantra and I really like it. I've never owned a Hyundai before. So it really feels like I'm driving on air. Very futuristic and quiet!

I notice the A/C blue light blinks/clicks on once in a while even when the A/C is shut off. Is this a typical thing?

Elantra HD (2006-10) :: 2008 - ESC Off Light Goes Off While Driving In Rainy / Snow Shower Conditions

Why the "esc off" light goes off in my 08 elantra se? This has happened 3 times in the last 4 months, every time while I am driving in rainy/snow shower conditions. I tried reactivating esc, but it does not allow me until I turn the ignition off and back on. Is this supposed to happen when it rains? I would like to take the car to the dealer for diagnosis but it happens at night and not close to a hyundai dealer.

Elantra MD (2010-15) :: 2013 - Brakes Slip And Re-grip While Coming To A Stop Intermittently

I've relocated back to Texas, and I've noticed since the roads here are much older than the streets in Vegas, if I'm braking while going over a bump in the road my brakes seem to slip and re-grip while coming to a stop. It doesn't happen every day but it happens enough to make my heart skip a beat and think I'm about to die

I do plan on taking this to the dealership because it is pretty big problem, I have a 2013 Limited Elantra

Hyundai - Elantra :: 2007 - Brakes Make A Grinding Sound When Tried To Stop In Icy Conditions

The brakes on my 2007 Hyundai Elantra make a grinding sound (almost like finger nails on wood) when I have tried to stop in icy conditions. It's also hard to get the car to stop and I end up pumping the brake. A Hyundai dealer replaced the front brakes over a year ago and Adirondack tire replaced back brake pads in the summer. Is the noise part of the anti-lock feature or does it sound like a problem?

Ford F-150 (2004-2008) :: 2006 - Electrical Malfunction - Back Light Works Intermittently - Blower Fan Stop Blowing?

My 2006 F150 was purchased by me in early 2009 with about 28,000 miles on it. It's an XLT crew cab 4X4 with the 5.4. Stock except for a leveling kit and an aftermarket head unit. It currently has about 59,000 miles and has been babied since I purchased it. About 3 years ago I started noting some issues:

A. Oil pressure dummy gauge is all over the place. Some times it will show no oil pressure. Other times it is all the way to the highest mark. Other times the needle has gone 180 degrees past where normal is and is actualy pointing straight down towards the floor.

B. Recently my alternator dummy gauge has started doing the same thing as my oil pressure gauge.

C. The backlight behind my odometer works intermittently, but mostly not at all.

D. My dome light will flicker when first turned on. It doesn't matter which door is opened or if the override switch it turned on. It takes several seconds to come on and will flicker like there is a poor connection somewhere, but stays on once its on.

E. Blower fan will occasionally stop blowing. Once the climate control switch is turned to off, then back to on it resumes working. This doesn't happen often, but does occasionally.

Fortunately, the truck has not left me stranded and I want to keep it that way. We are getting ready to sale my wife's Toyota and this will become her daily driver. I want to take care of any issues before she starts driving it. Are these all separate issues or is there one common issue which could be causing them all?

Toyota - Corolla :: 2008 - Front Brakes Creak When Approaching Stop

Took my 2008 Corolla in for its 60,000 mile checkup. It was recommended that the front brake pads be changed as they were getting low. It is now one week later. Now the front brakes creak when coming to a full stop. I have noticed that the creaking seems to happen more on the way back home from work, and seems less pronounced in the morning.

Sonata NF (2006-10) :: 2009 SE - Creaking Brakes At Very End Of Stop

I have a 2009 SE, about 120k miles. A few months ago I noticed a creaking noise from the front brakes when nearing the end of a complete stop, and the closer completely stopped, the more pronounced the sound is. I took it to my mechanic assuming I needed new brake pads (had put about 40k on the car without replacing them).

The mechanic told me the pads were fine but the rotors needed to be "cleaned," which he did. The sound stopped VERY briefly but then returned and is getting worse. It's not quite a grinding, more like a tight-sounding creaking that "rolls" as the car stops.

Now, they don't feel any less effective or impaired, and as I said, it's only near the end of the stop, maybe 20mph and below. No noise in the beginning part of the stop. If the brake pads and rotors are both fine as my mechanic claimed...

Dodge - Avenger :: 2008 - Rough And Slow Idle At A Stop On The Brakes With Car In Drive

2008 Dodge Avenger SXT Sedan GEMA 2.4L DOHC I4 / 4 speed automatic75,000 miles Moderately well taken care of (oil change every 3,000 miles, mostly follows recommended maintenance in owner's manual)

Symptoms:

*Car runs and drives fine while the car is in constant motion and decelerating.

*Rough and Slow Idle at a stop on the brakes with car in Drive. Engine speed will drop below ~400 RPM, then "kick" up to ~1,200 RPM, settle back to 'normal' idle ~800 RPM, repeat. I have suggested she put the car in Neutral at a stop to see if that changes anything, but I don't have feedback from her yet. One instance of seeing a puff of smoke from under the hood while the car was doing the above.

*When pulling away from a stop, the car will hesitate; that is the accelerator will be pressed but the throttle response will be delayed.

*When pulling away from a stop acceleration will be inconsistent; instead of rrrrrRRRRRRRRRR, it's more like rrrrRRRRrrrrrRRRRrrrrrRRRRR

*Couple instances where the car just shut off while she was parallel parking (low engine speed).

*One instance where the car did not start on first attempt. Started fine on second attempt.

*No Check Engine Light. The codes have been run.

Shop Visits (at an independent garage recommended by her roommate who's been going there for 5+ years, good reviews on yelp, and always busy):

*First visit: told her they put in a bottle of fuel system cleaner and to use a tank of high octane gas. That didn't really work.
*Second visit: cleaned the throttle body. That was 3 days ago, so far no conclusion either way.

Other repairs:

*The battery was checked (at O'Reilly) and replaced after the starting incident mentioned above. (5 year old car, seems about right).
*2 nights ago I told her to put in a bottle of HEET to get water out of the fuel system (California uses ethanol blend) and a bottle of Gumout Fuel System Cleaner and to fill up with premium gas (based on items below). Be sure to run that tank down to almost empty.

Things I could think of:

*Crankshaft/camshaft position sensor failing.
*Alternator failing (because this problem doesn't seem to exist at higher RPM's)

Research online: It seems that a number of people have similar problems with Chrysler products with this and the previous generation 2.4L engine but no clear conclusive repair. Some of the items mentioned:

*Idle Air Control (IAC)
*Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) valve
*New sparks plugs and wires. (not replaced but should be)
*New timing belt. Timing belt is one tooth off.
*Water in the Fuel System (hence, HEET)
*Dirty/Clogged Fuel System Component (hence, fuel system cleaner)
*Failing Fuel Pump
*Dirty/Clogged Air Filter (replaced per maintenance manual)
*Low Oil Pressure/Failing Oil Pump
*Additionally, there are no recalls against her VIN.

Elantra HD (2006-10) :: 2007 - Stalling On Stop

I have a 07 Elantra, with 300k km. most times coming to a stop it will almost stall with a few maybe 1 in 10 will actually stall if I would let it. I can control this with not actually stopping, but almost stopping, and let my foot off the brake slightly and let it move ahead slowly before coming to a complete stop. I have searched the Internet for quite a while and all I could ever find was try shifting to neutral when stopping. If I shift to neutral there is absolutely no sign of stalling, but they never said what it would be or how to fix it. Other than the stalling or almost stalling upon stopping, it idles perfectly and always starts right back up and runs fine.
