Elantra XD (2001-06) :: Losing Power After Logging 250 Mi / RPMs Also Become Erratic

I'm currently moving cross-country from LA to St. Louis. Had routine maintenance done b4 I left. I've only made it to New Mexico so far b/c my car is losing power after logging 250 mi. RPM's also become erratic. Doesn't completely stall, but won't let me go more than 45mi/h. After a rest break, the problem doesn't re-create.

At my first mechanic stop, the computer checked-out as ok. That mechanic changed the spark plugs and also told me the 2004 has no fuel filter (fuel filter being my suspicion of what was wrong).

Today it lost power again. Jim Bob at a rural garage said maybe the alternator or fuel pump. I have an appt. at Pep Boys tomorrow, as the dealers don't have any avail appts. until Fri.

The contents of my apt. are in the trunk and backseat. Is it worth it to remove them (to get to the fuel pump) at the cost of another hotel day, or should I limp home at 250 mi. a stretch?

Elantra XD (2001-06) :: P0519 Idle Erratic / RPMs Constantly High

My friend was having trouble with her 2001 elantra. Her idle was erratic and her RPMs were constantly high. we checked every where for a vacuum leak but could not find one in any of the lines. We went on to switch out the idle air control valve, the throttle position sensor, and even cleaned out her throttle body. we threw up our hands and sent it to a shop. Come to find out there WAS a vacuum leak. apparently in the air idle control valve sensor there is a gasket that seemed to be missing. I of course didn't think about replacing a gasket when I replaced the sensor because I never saw one there.

Elantra XD (2001-06) :: Losing Complete Power For A Second When Pulling Out Of Driveway

My '05 Elantra GT has done some weird stuff in the last few days: Losing complete power for a second when pulling out of the driveway two days ago, flickering headlights constantly, complete loss of power while trying to start last night, then suddenly everything started right up. Today, it lost power 2 times in about 10 seconds while I was sitting at a light on the way to work, but the motor never shut all the way off so it just restarted. Today at lunch, I turned the key and everything went dark. I pressed the brake pedal, the dash clock came on and then I was able to start the car. Bad Diode in alternator?

Elantra XD (2001-06) :: 2002 GLS Losing Power When Accelerating From Stop Light

My 2002 Hyundai elantra gls has had a problem with losing power when accelerating from a light. only after filling up gas and has done it only three times. I cleaned throttle body and noticed the mass air flow sensor is missing and wiring. I went to AutoZone and no check engine light for mass air flow sensor and that I have one for fuel pressure sensor in tank. I don't wanna throw money in to the mass air flow sensor if my problem is the fuel tank pressure sensor.

Elantra XD (2001-06) :: Erratic Shifting At Around 40 Mph

I have a 2001 Elantra GLS. The tranny shifts smooth. At around 40mph, it wants to shift into what I guess is overdrive. At that speed it is like it can't figure out where it wants to be and will down and upshift. Aside from that the tranny has no other problems.

I have an 01 elantra that idles erratic while in park. Also when i remove plug wires from the number one and three cylinders it will smooth out which doesn't seem to make sense to me because they are being fired from different coils, but if i pull two or four it continues to rev. Could this be a timing issue, I have been told that it could be the IAC as well as the cruise control module, what was it?

Elantra XD (2001-06) :: 2002 - Erratic Idle And Ran Rough At 1200 Rpm

I just picked up an 02 Hyundai elantra manual trans that needed a transmission. ran fine before I replaced transmission but after putting it all back together the car now how has an erratic idle. it will rev from 2-4000 rpms. I tried spraying for vacuum leaks idle didn't pick up any higher. replaced tps and iac and didn't make a difference. the only thing that did make any difference is unplugging map sensor. dropped idle to about 1200 rpm but ran rough. could this affect the idle.

Elantra XD (2001-06) :: Low Idle / Power Stutters At Mid RPMs Upon Acceleration

So my 2001 Hyundai Elantra GLS with 80,000 miles, I bought it with 70,000 off of Craigslist to use as a daily driver while i rebuild my honda s2000. Anyways the trouble I am having is that on a cold start the engine idle is almost normal like it should be but the engine just runs really rough and shakes. I do not have a misfire. However the current check engine light was an evap light in which i just removed the charcoal box completely from the system and closed off the vacuum lines. I then unhooked the battery and of course the light went off. I drove it down the road and ir still has the power loss but the cel did not come back. So cel fixed and i hoped the idle would improve but it hasn't. I do not know what to do next...I have read in other threads to check the intake gasket and i will i was just wondering, what this problem could be and how to fix it. As for emissions i don't really care. I have a buddy that will pass the inspection.

Elantra XD (2001-06) :: 2005 - Slight Erratic Idle / Check Engine Light And Codes

I just purchased a 2005 elantra with 133k on it and she runs fine other than a slight erratic idle. And by slight I mean it will jump about 50-100 rpm idling and every blue moon it will jump up to 250 rpm sitting there. After idling for a while my CEL came on with the following codes.

P0507 idle air control rpm high
P0506 idle air control rpm low
P0170 fuel trim malfunction bank 1
P0121 throttle position sensor

What could be causing this? I took the iac off and cleaned it with maf cleaner but it didn't work.

Elantra XD (2001-06) :: 2005 - Loss Of Power On Acceleration / RPMs Surge Up Very Slowly

So my 2005 elantra 2.0 CVVT has 189k on it 1 owner.

I got a check engine light one day and i read the code. Came out to be 02 sensor code bank 1. So i order a denso o2 sensor and replace the part.

I drive the car for about 400 miles to reset monitors and get a check engine light. P0420 cat code. At this point the car drives with normal power and pickup.

1000 miles later my car has lost power. It doesn't have any get up or power when driving normally. I take the car to my local shop and they recommend replacing front cat. I replace front cat, same issue.

At this point i'm not sure if it is a transmission problem or maybe my 2nd cat or something else?

On the freeway if I put my pedal to the ground the rpms surge up very very slowly,

Also seems like the car doesn't shift till around 4k rpms, seems like previously it shifted sooner.

I have a 3inch cat back exhaust, cold air intake, and a stage 1 apr tune. I just installed a front mount intercooler. When I spool my turbo in 1st gear the car loses all power at 4 grand and just bogs out after that. Rpms keep climbing but the speed doesn't move. What's going on?!

Golf IV / Jetta IV :: Losing Power And Boost At 4k RPMs After Tuning

I have a 2002 gti with an apt software tune. Whenever I'm on the interstate in 5th gear for a while. And I'll start to speed up. Once 4k kicks in. My boost no longer works when it normally pushes like 22psi. Then after slowing down. No matter what gear I'm in. It limits back to 10psi of boost and once I hit 4k. It goes super slow and boost won't work. I'm not sure what else I should get to restore my car to perform fully.

I'm currently on the factory ko3 turbo and the previous owner had nitrous hookups and lines to the motor.

I'm already 3k into fixing it. Needed new shift cables and a fresh transmission

I'm hoping to push about 250hp maybe 300hp

The boost problem is fixed once I turn the car off and back on. I just want it to work again without having to spend an arm and leg on parts and labor. My mechanic works at Volkswagen dealership. But isn't allowed to work on my car due to dealership policies about working on vehicles older than 10 years old. The guy who tuned my car professionally at an apr shop told me that I should get a smoke test done (idk where or how to do that) for my vacuum lines and that I have a cylinder 4 misfire. It may be a bad coil or spark plug. But I'd like to get some performance out of my car and I don't know what else or where to start.

Jeep - Compass :: 2010 - Losing Power / Hard Acceleration And RPMs Go Up

Our ABS light, anti-skid light, and engine light are on. The light came on when 3 year old son hit it. It just never went off. Dealership hooked it up to diagnostics and said we needed to spend almost 500 on a new ABS system. ALSO, at the same time, the car now sounds like its working very hard to accelerate. The rpm's go up, but there is no additional power. Is this connected to the ABS problem, or is this a transmission problem? Took it to a mechanic and he didn't check the transmission. After talking to him, he said it could be the transmission.

Elantra HD (2006-10) :: Car Starts Hesitating Losing Power

My car has been running great. It has 125,000 miles on it. A couple weeks ago I did a bunch of work. I changed the plugs, air filter, timing belt, ac belt, alt, belt, cooling flush, tranny flush and brakes. Everything was great until yesterday. I wanted to test the power so I was on the highway going up this long incline going relatively fast. As I get almost to the top of the hill, my car starts hesitating losing power and check engine light comes on. I make it off the exit and sputter to a commuter parking lot. I shut the car off, check under the car for leaks and check the fluids. Everything is ok. I start the car back up and its running fine again. I drive home then I drive to the parts store to have them check the codes. No codes found. He told me that the engine light needs to be on for them to find codes.

I just bought a 99 Explorer Sport. The history I know is that the truck has 200k+ miles on it, with the engine replaced. Replacement engine has 90k on it.

Was told the fuel pump, and serpentine belt (I think, he said "main belt") were replaced in the last few months.

The car was driving fine on the test drive and for the first few days of owning it. Then a clicking sound started form under the hood while driving.

I first noted the clicking while at a red light, and when I accelerated it stopped. Over the last week it has increased in frequency every day and now is almost constant.

This evening I was coming to a stop with my foot off the gas and when I hit the brakes the RPM went up, and car lurched forward before stopping gently. This kept happening so I drove home and took the above video. Video taken shows the RPMs jumping up when in park and going form idle to idle with brake depressed. when I rev the gas and let go, the RPMs fall, hang for a couple seconds, and then fall back to ~1000. The captions are very accurate, they show exactly when the brake or gas was pressed and when they were let go.

My obvious question would be WHAT IS CAUSING THIS? Also, ARE THE CLICKING AND THE RPMs RELATED? Finally, SHOULD I AVOID DRIVING IT? I need to drive it a few times through the next few days and I can't really avoid it unless it will mean serious damage.

The RPMs while driving does up and down. You can feel the engine doing this. You can watch the Tac go up and down. Whats the problem. We just brought a TP sensor but I say its a vacuum leak.

Ford - Explorer :: 2008 V6 - Erratic / Jumping Idle While At Higher RPMs

My wifes 2008 Eddie Bauer Explorer V-6 recently started having an erratic idle and we've started noticing it while at higher RPM's. Its almost as if there is a cylinder that misfires but no engine light is coming on. The car stumbles like it is going to start to die, then the idle jumps up and smooths out. A little while later it does the same thing. The car has I think 74,000 miles on it and has never had the plugs or wires changed. I change out the fuel filter roughly every 24,000 miles and did it recently in the spring. Any places where I should start looking? Could a misfire not trigger the check engine light?

Golf IV / Jetta IV :: Losing Boost / Power At High RPMs In High Gear

2003 jetta gls 1.8t 5spd - gts stage 1 tune(gonzo stage 2)

tt 2-1/2" downpipe with high flow cat

turbo smart splitter valve(set to divert only)

turbo inlet pipe

homemade intake with k&n filter

stock n75 valve (f)

So in first through 3rd gear my car gets 20psi of boost then at 3,500 ish rpm smoothly starts to lower down to 15psi. but in forth and 5th gear the boost drops faster, enough so the diverter valve actually opens. then the boost will bounce up and down, around 15psi. the car still accelerates but with obvious power loss.

Is my diverter valve not "firm" enough? it is adjustable, so I've tightened it as much as it can. it doesn't seem to change anything. it came with spring spacers to make it tighter, but I haven't tried that yet.

Is it something with the tune? not enough fuel, need bigger injectors? The problem is only at about 100mph, so its not a big deal. I would like to get it straightened out if possible.

Elantra XD (2001-06) :: Ticking Which Varies With RPMS

When I married my wife two Fridays ago I also married in to her 2006 GLS Elantra.

It has pretty bad ticking which varies with RPMS, and how warm the car is, but is always there at lower RPMS. This has gotten worse the past for weeks, but that may be because she is longer into an oil change, and the filter isn't a great filter.

I am trying to do some research, but the search function appears to bring up items from all the different forums on the site.

Does this engine have solid lifter or hydraulic lifters? I am going to try a few oil changes with some seafoam and a quality filter first.

If that doesn't work how involved is it to replace the valve adjusters, or remove and clean?

I need to keep this car alive for a while, it is in overall great condition, 130k miles, everything works, doesn't smoke, doesn't leak oil, transmission is solid.

All that is wrong is the noisy valve train!

Elantra XD (2001-06) :: 2005 - RPMs Drop While AC Is On

Can't run a/c rpms drop to almost 200 from 1200-1500rpms. Really bad when at at traffic light. I have to constantly press gas pedal.
