Just over 7000 miles all of a sudden I got this loud grinding noise in the rear end like a brake locked up. Pulled into a parking lot. Don't think it's brakes. Put the truck in reverse it got even louder for a second then it quieted down after that. Naturally this happened on a Saturday.
View 6 RepliesOk haven't been on here in a LONG time. Sold my '12 and bought a DRW '14 F350 to tow our fifth wheel. Just got back from a 775 mile round trip pulling our fifth wheel. My dad noticed my passenger front tire was going bald on the outside. I said yeah it was pulling to the right and thought my tire was low but when I checked it was the right psi.
Turning to the left I was starting to get a grinding type noise. If I rolled my passenger window down you could here something just grinding away but when you straightened out nothing.
So I took it into the dealer and they tell me the outside tire wear is normal. I said it has 22,000 miles and the passenger tire will be bald on the outside in 4,000 more miles or less. Said they can't hear any noise, yet my wife can hear it, kids can hear it and people outside the truck can.
It's not normal for the passenger or drivers tire for that matter to go bald in less than 25,000 miles? Tires have always been kept to proper psi, I've towed only about 5,000 miles total with it. They are also taking the worthless rancho rebranded shocks off and going with bilstiens. I should have replaced them 10,000 miles ago. They are horrible shocks.
It really torques me that they have it for a week and can't find anything wrong. When turning to the left it's almost like bump steer in 4wd just not quite as bad but with also a grinding sound that you can hear inside the cab and can feel it in the floor board. Nothing evident but just looking under the truck.
I am having a major issue with my truck. I replaced all of my brakes about 8 months ago. Replaced everything. Rotors, calipers, pads etc. About 3 weeks ago I pushed on the brakes and they locked up and I heard a loud pop and then grinding. I pulled my wheel and my brake on the right rear had broke the 2 mounting bolts and fell off. So I put the brake back on thinking I hadn't tightened the bolts.
Drove about 7 miles and around the 10th time I stepped on my brakes it did the same thing. So I replaced the brakes again. Calipers caliper mount and pads. I have been driving it 2 weeks and all of a sudden same thing happened. I push on the brakes the right rear locked up and snapped the bolts again. So now I replaced everything rotor calipers etc. Greased everything up and no problems for a day. Do I need to replace the brake mount and where do I get that?
A few weeks back my rear drivers side wheel started smoking severely...when I stopped you could smell the brake material, feel the heat coming from the wheel, and lots of smoke. I speculated it was the parking brake that got hung up. I jiggled that cable around and then went around the block - no issue. Note: I did not leave the parking brake on.
It happened again a week later, but not as bad. I took it into the dealer today. They said heat was evident as it burned off a sticker on the disk or caliper hsg area. They have not determined yet if it is parking brake or caliper?
My dad has a 2012 6.7 powerstroke with about 84,000 kms on it. Truck runs great, works great, but has a noise that sounds like its coming from a pump of some sort on the engine. I know nothing about these trucks and told him I would see what I could find out before we take it to the dealer to see if its a warranty issue. Video below.....
View 4 RepliesJust bought a 2012 F350 6.7 4x4 in the beginning of March. After about 500 miles the "Exhaust Fluid System Fault - In 50 miles, speed limited to 50 mph" message displayed. So first thing that occurred to me was maybe it was low on DEF, so I added approximate 1.5 gallons as it had some already in there. I also called the dealer who said "well it just needs to be driven on the highway" hmmm, that sounded weird but I did it anyways. After that I started the truck and the message was gone. I thought that fixed it. - Nope, at about 1480 miles I got the same error message again.
So after getting the message again I just kept driving and the message went away. I thought ok. Yeah right! Now in the past few weeks I have been noticing that the truck almost wants to stall and begins to shudder when going over a slight incline and shifting from 5th to 6th at about 45mph. When I accelerate it makes a knocking noise. If I let off the accelerator, let it slow down, it downshifts into 5th and I then accelerate and it goes away.
And today... I decided to go for a nice ride. After about 10 minutes of driving I get the ole "Exhaust Fluid System Fault" error again. Crap! Again, I keep driving and after another 15min - I get that shutter and knocking noise. Anyway I drove until the the truck displayed "Speed limited to 50mph on next restart. I just kept driving and the error message mysteriously disappeared again.
I was getting ready to replace the carrier bearing and noticed the rear pinion seal is leaking. Before attempting the replacement myself, I would like some opinions on the noise in the video below. Is this normal? I am confidant I can replace the carrier bearing and pinion seal, but not sure I have the tools for anything else.

Is there a way to reset the CEL on a 2012 F350? I've tried unhooking the battery, but that didn't work. I know exactly what it is, one morning I was running late for work. And forgot to unplug my heater core plug. I know, I know, Just forgot about it when I was in a hurry. I just don't wanna pay the Ford house to reset it.
View 1 RepliesThe truck (2012 f350 6.7 lb cc 131,600 miles) started fine. Then while i was setting up the defrost i accidentally hit the ac button. Well I then hit it again to turn off. At that point the engine stalled. Which has never happened to me before. I started it back up which took a bit longer to get it to fire. It now says "Reduced engine power" and runs kinda rough. I thought well im at the end of my fuel filters life so why not change it since i had one. Well the. The FF housing broke. After replacement FF housing and filter it will no longer start. I took the filter back off and checked to see if it was cross threaded or sucking air. I checked that twice. Still no start cranks fast and strong. Codes are
P2138 something to do with the gas pedal
P0193 fuel rail sensor A high
P06A6 voltage on circuit A is whacky (paraphrasing here)
P0532 ac pressure sensor low
I own a 08 F350 which has 4:10 gears. After this last trip to AZ pulling 5th wheel and only getting 7 - 8.5 mpg driving 65 most of the trip, I'm seriously considering a new F350. Switch from 2008 to 2012 with about the same truck? I'm thinking of going back to 3:73 which I know works a bit. But if someone did switch what was your mileage difference. I have been also tossing idea of replacing my 4:10 with 3:73 to improve mileage. My 08 only has 24k on the clock.
View 14 RepliesI have a 2012 f350 srw that I'm trying to rectify an intermittent p1249 dtc. What I found initially was a broken vacuum line from the egr solenoid valve to the activator. This made the truck run good and the dtc code cleared. It came back two weeks later, the truck did not go into the reduced power mode. I pulled the MAP sensor to test it and it was completely plugged with soot.
I replaced the MAP sensor and removed the upper intake, cleaned out the soot, which was considerable, vacuumed out the lower manifold cleared the code. It went without a cel for about 1000 miles and came back. My questions are: where to go next and if the soot is normal for a 116K engine would I be better served by deleting the egr/dpf/def?
This past Monday I was finally able to pick up a 2012 F350 dually and over the weekend I was able to do an EGR and DPF delete and I come to find out while under the truck that it has an oil leak I looked under the hood and it seems that there is oil around the turbo and after the test drive there is a LightStream of oil coming down the exhaust.
Another question is that I have read about the possible problem is that early build 2011's have that's why I chose to look for a 2012 so I didn't even consider looking at the build date when getting it and I come to find out it was November 2011 and this truck has a plastic oil pan should I be worried about The possibility of this engine taking a dump on me and if so what can I do to prevent it?
I noticed the aftermarket controller in my 03 F350 is not working. I am wondering where the fuse(s) might be located. Under the hood? Are they fuses or relays?
View 2 RepliesI am new to the FTE world but not to diesels my 2012 f350 is my second diesel and a couple weeks ago I got home from work and fell asleep and forgot to plug in my pickup and it gelled up (was about 15degrees when I fell asleep and -20 when I woke up) so all the filters were replaced and everything was good after that for about a week, then my fass platinum pump started blowing the 30a fuse every 10 seconds and The pump itself smelled burnt so I replaced it with the same style and size of pump and the pump is good now but the truck is a no start it has thrown codes p2291, p0089, p0091, and p228e. It has 4inch straight exhaust, fully deleted (def and egr), h&s tuned, fass platinum 125 lift pump.
View 14 RepliesI have a 2012 ford f350 SRW 4x4 with the 6.7L. Problem I have just started to have. When going downhill in tow haul the truck at first will hold you back then all of a sudden it starts to up shift at 20 mph it reaches 6th gear pretty quick. I talked to the dealer and they suggested I was pushing the shift buttons, but I am not. They told me to drive it till next week and then they will see if there are any codes in it.

View 14 RepliesMy Father In-law has a 2012 f-350 Dually with 4K miles. He tows a 9K lb camper and until our last trip the truck ram flawlessly. On our return from Myrtle Beach to central NC we were on a freeway traveling at 63 MPH and his tranny would not shift into 6th gear. Tow haul was on. There was some headwind (10MPH) but no large grades or any reason we can think of not to allow an up shift. His display did show a countdown to empty of the exhaust fluid 450 miles to empty.
He took the truck in for service and no codes were found. Dealer did not find any TSB's addressing the tranny issues. Is the sixth gear up shift in tow haul set very conservative? Does it hold 5th unless the load is below a certain value? Other trips we have been on have been mountain towing so 6th gear shift would have been on down hill or level sections. Dealer wants us to bring it to them when it won't up shift next time but dealer is not along a freeway.
My 2012 diesel frequently stalls momentarily after I touch the brake. This is very annoying as I drive in heavy traffic and often have to touch the brake then accelerate to merge into freeway traffic. The dealer service department said this was a 'feature' and not a flaw. Is there any way to eliminate this issue?
View 5 RepliesThis started yesterday. A Loud grinding type noise from the top of the engine. As soon as I touch the throttle the noise goes away. I checked the pulleys and TC and everything checks out. Sounds like it's coming from the HPOP gear area like a gear train noise. Maybe the additional oil pressure has something to do with the HPOP inside getting quiet.

After about 6000 miles the left rear brake began making a grinding noise, only when applied, every time the car sat more than a few hours, that goes away after about 2-3 miles. It began in winter and continues into the warm and dry days of spring now with 9000 miles total. Had it to dealer twice and inspection found no malfunction so they say its from rust build up because it goes away all the time and is nothing to worry about. It does not occur with the other wheels. My niece has the same van, in same geographic area and does not have this problem. Does this selective rust build up explanation make sense? Previously burned with bad brakes on a caravan, so am skeptical.
