New to diesel trucks and wondered if this recurring code is a serious problem. I clear DTC and truck will run fine. Might stay off for 2 days or 2 months and same code comes back. Truck seems to run just fine even with service light on.

View 5 RepliesStarted as I was warming up the truck,a slight vibration/shudder. First thing that came to mind was F150. Torqued words of wisdom that it might come back, I had a p0301 before. Had no CEL, so decided to drive it to see if it got worse. Turned onto the main road and on came the CEL. Pulled into my FORD dealer, told him about my problem. Code P0308 misfire on #8cylinder was the read out, COP was done and the plug. 40 min of labor. She's even quieter than when #1 got changed.
View 3 RepliesThe car has an obvious misfire and the scanner says its Cyl # 8. I tried the "italian" tune-up and under heavy throttle the miss goes away. I swapped coils and the miss stays with Cyl # 8. I pulled the injector, and can't see anything wrong.
View 11 Replies2003 hyundai accentra and I have trouble code P0303 misfire detected cylinder 3 the car would run rough and hesitate at idle and run rough in drive and reverse I checked the plug gap on number 3 cylinder and it was excessive so I regapped it and put back and the car run good for about a day and now the engine light is back and is running rough and hesitating.

The engine now has approximately 95000 miles and I have recently gotten a P0307 fault-miss fire on # 7 cylinder. I have installed a new spark plug, COP, and fuel injector. The fault has returned. What is the cause of my problem?
View 1 RepliesI'm normally in the 7.3 forum, but a friend has a 2003 6.0 with a P2285. I get the impression that on the 03 and early 04 models, this code is nearly always a failed ICP sensor or the wiring leading to it. It also has a cylinder 5 misfire code, but I suspect that's a separate issue. I had the truck hooked up and the ICP held pretty much steady at 870 psi. I didn't look at ICP voltage, but I'm willing to bet it was probably 0v and the pressure reading was inferred and not actual.
Will a failed ICP sensor also cause the truck to have decreased power? Any tips to make the sensor easier to change, like a certain socket/ratchet combination or anything? Is it easier from the top, or bottom? I do have a lift . . .
Wife's car - 2005 Taurus, 6 cyl, 3L, OHV, 83K miles. CEL came on and code came back as "P305 - cylinder 5 misfire detected". The car had been running rough. I changed the plugs, wires and coil. After changing these (and clearing the code) the car seemed to run better for about a week. Today it suddenly started running rough again and the CEL came on with the same code. I'm guessing now this is probably fuel related as opposed to spark related??? As a side comment, the tachometer has been fluctuating as of late as well (again, intermittently).
View 5 RepliesSo the other day I was driving my truck and all of the sudden it through a p1316 code. So I did a Buzz test with FORscan and it gave me this error P12777. For the people that have dealt with this code before, where should I start looking, As I have a lot of stuff to take out on the passenger side before I can even see the valve cover. Is it more of a wiring issues or is it a injector issue.
View 4 RepliesSo when I bought the car, it had a check engine light. I had it checked it said cylinder 5 misfire. I assumed it was the glow plug so I bought it and replaced the glow plugs myself. Check engine light went away for about a day then came back on. Got it checked again and still said cylinder 5 misfire. This is my first diesel and I'm clueless as to what's wrong. Any way to check what's wrong myself?
Also just to double check, the cylinder number is 1, 3, 5, 7 for the passenger side front to back right? And 2, 4, 6, 8 for drivers side? And front to back means when looking at the front of the car? 2001 7.3 Excursion Limited with 232k miles...
I have a 2009 Corolla S 1.8 with a manual transmission and 30,000 miles. About a month ago the check engine light came on throwing a PO302 code (cylinder 2 misfire detected). I reset the check engine light and drove it about a week before the check engine light reappeared again with the PO302 code. I swapped the spark plugs on cylinders 2 and 3 and reset the check engine light, the PO302 soon reappeared. I swapped the coils on cylinders 2 and 4, and reset the check engine light, the PO302 soon reappeared. I swapped the fuel injectors on cylinders 2 and 3, and reset the check engine light, the PO302 soon reappeared.
View 1 RepliesI have a 03 7.3 runs like crap. buzz test says cyl 2 and 4 have high to low side open. the only code that's hard is p1316. it also says cyl 1-3-4 fail balance test but not always some times only 2 fail.... I ohm tested injectors all the way to the idm and all are between 3.1 and 4.2 ish. So I guess I can rule out wiring. it smokes pretty bad if I rev it. it was running good till I parked it for 2 days. I did put HSS in oil 2 weeks ago to try clean out little rough acceleration. I did find my ipr nut fell off and spacer ipr was just floating around on the shaft I put that back together it was laying there.

Let's start from the beginning...
I was getting the notorious 5.4l ticking sound. After doing research on this issue. I found that it could be a few different issues including:
Cam Phasers
VCT solenoid(s)
Loud injectors
Valves
Exhaust leak
Loose spark plug
The list could possibly go on, but these being top concerns or issues to look into.
I took it to my mechanic and wanted him to research the ticking problem. This was my primary concern due to it was getting worse over time. I didn't want to do more damage than what was possibly already done. I told him to go ahead and change the spark plugs while you're checking into what's going on. (I know those plugs can break and I didn't want to do that.)
At any rate... the plugs got changed to motocraft brand (I know the trucks can be finicky with the parts you put back into them so I went with the motocrafts to avoid any complications.) After the plugs were changed, he told me that the ticking was caused from a blown exhaust manifold gasket (yay me... not internal parts or anything too serious. Sweet!)
I had to reschedule to get the gasket done, but knowing what it was now I wasn't too concerned about driving it. So I did. The new plugs are also in the truck at this time. I drove it the next day and right away.. I noticed a misfire. Thought maybe the plug was bad. I told my mechanic about it and he said... Sounds like a COP to me.
So I get a new COP. Okay.. easy fix. Installed it and still got a misfire. Told my mechanic and he said get another COP. So I'm thinking.. "Okay.. get a new part to fix a new part.. sounds logical.. lol" so I do what he thinks might be best. I replace the COP with another new one and it's still misfiring. The new cops are also motocraft brand as well.
Okay... next step.. he claims it may be a VCT solenoid issue. At this point I don't care.. I just want my truck fixed. So he replaces the driver side solenoid. Still misfiring..
So after doing some research on the scanner... we locate some issues that are the exact symptoms I'm having. Misfire.. at low rpm.. during cruise control.. and a sudden at idle.
This information states for this drivability issue.. to spray injector cleaner/carb cleaner into the engine and possibly clean it out. Makes sense. He did this as well as changed the fuel filter. Also did a pressure test on the injectors to make sure they were good. They were. After spraying and cleaning it out, it was taken for a test drive and it seemed okay... but not perfect. The next day.. the misfire came back.
He said that if the misfire returns, that I need to contact the dealership and see if there is a pcm update. The dealership said there probably is but can't tell me until the computer is hooked up to it. (Of course there is a charge when it's hooked up) again.. whatever.. I just want it fixed. The truck is scheduled to go in next Wednesday for that. If that doesn't fix it, my mechanic said cam phasers possibly bUT still not sure for sure..
So I got an IDM code and then after running AE buzz test got a P1273 (#3 cylinder high low open).
Ohm'd out the 42 Pin - got 3 across the board. Only test 42 pin from valve cover to injectors.
Double checked UVHC
Swapped solenionds
Swapped injectors
Did ford wiggle test.
Ran Injector buzz between all those steps and still get P1273.
What's the next step? Ohm from IDM to 42pin? May actually be a bad IDM?

View 5 RepliesWe got our latest Santa Fe computer email and it warned of an engine fault. The car itself was not flashing any warnings though. Took it to the dealer and they said OBD was throwing a P0303 cylinder 3 misfire code. They shifted the ignition coil, and replaced the injector and seal before resetting the code. They had the car for 3 days though. Car was not running rough or anything else you would expect from this type of issue. Still trying to figure out why we got the email with no indication of trouble from the car itself.
View 3 Repliesmy 03 f250 has a 5.4 and i cant seem to get rid of a misfire in cylinder 3. i had a p0353 code but that no longer shows up. i replaced all the coils with Accel coils, replaced the plugs with motorcraft platinum. i have checked the wire all the way back to the PCM and it checks out. i replaced the pcm with one that has been reprogrammed. i have swapped the injector and coil with another position and still get misfire at #3. Replaced the coil connector with a new one. I have good fuel pressure. I no longer get the code but the misfire is still there, unplug the coil and injector while running and no change. Unplug a different cylinder and you can tell the change. I checked compression and its good. I am lost here!!!!
View 14 RepliesAfter replacing most of the underside of my Super Duty, Complete front end, backing plates, brakes, rotors and shocks, I have a misfire code on cylinder #4. I replaced the plugs, cleaned the MAS and filter and rotated the coil to cylinder #1. Still have a misfire on #4 and noticed the coolant slightly low and some condensation on the oil cap. Could this be the intake gasket? My mechanic is away for 2 weeks and I think the price at the dealer will kill me. I have 63K on the truck, don't tow and plow mostly family members. It's getting a little rusty but is still in good shape.

I would like to know where the TSS is located and then see if it has corrosion other reason not to connect.
I've got a 1271 code and I can't seem to make it go away. Code definition is "High side to Low side open Cyl 1". The truck runs fine, no rough idle, no excessive smoke of any color, just the damn CEL light stays on. I check the UVCH and all the injectors ohm in at 2.7 ohms. I've already done the updated clips under the covers. I run all the buzz tests and KOEO/ KOER tests and all appears OK. My AE won't do a Cyl contribution test. All the injector data shows all 0.00. I know its not that perfect. "high to low open", does that mean I've lost a ground? If so where?
View 14 RepliesSo I did a cylinder contribution test and a buzz test today. It buzzed evenly on all cylinders. Then when I did the cylinder contribution test I got these codes,
P0269 cylinder 4 contribution balance
P0284 cylinder 8 contribution balance
It has been running a little rough lately but not smoking. Seems to be chattering more than it was too. I did the FRx, HPx, CVDs and banjo bolt mods about 500 miles ago and it was a lot quieter and ran better. Just recently started running rough and a little louder. Could these injectors be bad? I did new injector O-rings about 800 miles ago. I ran the test with the engine cold and with it warmed up and got the codes both times. It seems to have a little bit of throttle flutter when holding it about half throttle while driving.
As far as I know the injectors haven't been replaced and they have 186K miles on them.
