I have a 2005 Excursion and the A/C Control panel has been blank on 2 different occasions. Upon startup the A/C will not respond to any adjustments and is therefore turned off.
Typically if we turn the Excursion off for several hours, the A/C will start working again. Should I be concerned...
I had this happen once and nothing I did would get the heat to come on and it was cold outside. I ended up turning truck off then back on and it worked. What causes this?
View 5 RepliesI was driving my vehicle and turned a corner and the vehicle completely died. No illuminated instrument panel, power windows, radio, turn indicators, HVAC not working. Turned ignition key off and back on and blank instrument panel no information. The vehicle does not crank.
All components which do not require the ignition key turned on work fine; IE headlights (low and high beams; they are bright), emergency flashers, power mirror, power seats, brake pedal adjust, door locks (remote and from the door panel), horn, and interior lights to name a few.
Is there a relay which the ignition switch activates to provide power for all components tied to the ignition switch? If so where is it located.
The heater/AC control panel does not turn-on automatically after the engine is started occasionally, during this time none of the buttons are working and blank display. The only way I can get it turn back on is re-starting the engine, sometime it takes more than 1 re-start.
I thought the relay ? or the signal driving the relay has something to do with it. Where is the relay for the Heater/AL is located ?
Black dash panel has cracked or broken. My EX is from Oklahoma but had been garaged most of its life paint is good, the plastic outside on mirrors and cowl are still black but the dash panel is brittle. I installed a new radio and broke it just above the cluster taking it off glued that back together got the radio installed and all was good for about 2 months then it started cracking around the radio. Now the radio just slides in and out. Anyway I'm in need of a new dash panel not sure if I should go with an 05 or paint an older one to match.

1/ The Heater/AC control, one in awhile is not Turn-On when the engine is started, manually turn it ON did not make any different, but the next time/few times the engine is started it is OK.
What is the possible problem and how can I fixed ?
2/ The overhead console is dead, not sure which fuse it belongs to so I checked/tested all the suspected fuses=OK.
What is the possible problem ?, and can it be fixed ? or take the panel apart for further testing ?
First off my vents stopped blowing completely. At this time the thermostat was still functioning. Fuse 28 was blown. I replaced the fuse and it blew again shortly after turning the heater on. I replaced the relay and resistor and still blowing fuses. For some reason I tried a 30A fuse and it didn't blow but a few minutes after turning on the heater there was a burning smell. I immediately turned it off and pulled the fuse back out, which was hot. I then replaced the blower motor and at this point there is no power at all to the control panel. The fuses are all fine as well as the relay and resistor. There's power to the fuses. So it seems like somewhere between the fuse box and the control panel I'm losing power.

View 6 RepliesWell I've had her just 1 week, used, and today I turned it on and the power is out on the A/C n Heater /Fan Control ASSY. It worked the last 900 miles from FL to OH. And today worked this morning, but 2nd time I got in the truck today there was No Lights in the Air Control Assy. I didn't get an Owners Manual, so what fuse to check.
View 3 RepliesI have a 2005 Excursion Limited v10 with inoperable cruise control that I bought 2 years ago. Since I don't use the truck much, I'm just starting to track down the issue. I've read a lot of the threads here, and done the cruise control system test, and come out with a failed switch. The 2005 is NOT part of the master cylinder pressure switch recall.
However, in digging around, I have no wiring harness attached to the master cylinder pressure switch. I also don't have any loose wiring harnesses or obvious signs of any wiring just being cut off. Talking about wiring, where to look, where it should be connected or what I might need to purchase? No wiring harness..

I've looked at all of the pictures showing that it should be right in front of the a/c unit, underneath the vacuum pump, but on both my 04 and my 05 Excursions, there is nothing to be found on that location. Where the bugger can be located.
View 2 RepliesMy outside temperature reading on my '05 (6.0 PSD EB) Ex has recently gone black..no reading. I haven't noticed any other issues, just no outside temp readings... Do these sensors go bad or ? Is it a big deal to change them out?
I was told it should be located just to the side of left hand (drivers side) headlight behind the grill, a small black cube (approx. 1 inch square) with three wires coming out of it. However, I'm not finding it there.
Where is the temp sensor located? Is there a fuse covering this sensor?
My wife went out and started the Camry today and turned on the A/C which has been working fine. She ran in to grab something and when she came back A/C was off. The control panel doesn't light up at all. I can't find anything listed as an a/C fuse under the dash or hood.
View 6 Replies I have a 2005 Sport trac, just recently, I started my truck and my check engine light was on and my trip counter and odometer went blank, not off, just dashes going across the panel. I recall noticing that my rpms were a little high. I turned off the truck and restarted and after a few minutes it came back to normal. Check engine light went off and my miles were displayed again.
A few days later, it happened again, except this time the rpms were normal, just the dashes and check engine light. I happened to have an obd II with me and I immediately scanned it for any codes. NONE. Few minutes later, back to normal. Scanned again, NOTHING. Its been happening more frequently now, every time i turn on the truck when its been sitting for a while. Like I said, it takes about 3 minutes or so and it goes away. Nothing unusual happens during this time. Motor sounds fine and runs smooth.
A friend who is a mechanic told me that it could be a ground cable for the COIL? that could be loose or damaged? He said its more than likely a ground because it happens when its cold and takes time to warm up and goes away. That if it was a hot it would happen all the time. I have searched online for something similar and have found similar problems but no exact match. I just changed the motor about a week ago. I had problems with the timing chain and broken oil pump.
Due to the amount of damage, cost and time to repair and amount of miles on the truck (180K) I decided id be better off putting in a new(used) motor with 67K miles in half the time for labor. I dont think this makes a difference though, because the first incident happened about a week before the truck broke down and the second about two days before. So Im guessing that the change of motor has nothing to do with it.
My 2003 has the tow mirrors. When using the power mirror control they seem to go opposite of what is intended. So when I want it to go up, it will go out and down. Or something to that effect. What the culprit could be?
View 1 RepliesI have been trying to figure my cruise control not working. I verified the switch for the brake pedal and the one on the master cylinder are not the problem. I have read about the clock spring but would like to verify signal is passing through/ not before replacing.
2 Questions.
#1 I have is how does the overall system work? Ok not that in depth but, is there some kind of servo that regulates the flow to,the injectors or is it strictly controlled by the PCM? and it tell the injectors to open to allow fuel to pass.
#2 Looking for a wiring diagram for the cruise control control circuit. Namely looking to verify switches are working.
I just installed a Heater AC Control panel that was broken when things shifted in my truck. Now, air blows, but I get no AC. I'm wondering if something deeper in the dash was broken.
View 1 RepliesBought my truck (2000 F150, Manual, V6) used with 135k on it. In 3 months I've put 10k more on it and am starting to run into a weird A/C problem.
Driving to one of my clients, everything was working fine. When I left there was no A/C. I checked coolant, fuses, etc with no luck. We had a bit of a cold-snap and I also found out my heater didnt work. Air comes out of the vents, but it's all panel air, regardless of temp or control settings.
Took it to a mechanic who said the high-pressure switch was dirty, he cleaned it and the A/C worked at the shop. The moment I left the exact same problems started happening again. It's been back to the same mechanic, and today he tells me that the a/c clutch is drawing to many amps and shorting it out, at which point the PCM tells it to goto hell. He can get it working by resetting the computer, however, the moment I put it in gear it stops working (a/c, heat, all of it). He was able to put power directly to it and it run with no problems.
To me (very little mechanical knowledge) it seems like power, or the condensor. The mechanic said that the heat going out isn't related at all, which makes no sense to me because it's happened there in his shop where the heat will only work if the a/c works. Hes telling me I need either a new clutch or a new compressor altogether. Quoted me 300 and 1000 for each respectively.
Side-Note: The morning of the day when the a/c initially broke, my car turned off suddenly while driving. I was in gear and driving down the road like normal. I popped the clutch, turned the key and it started right back up. Also, cruise control seems to have stopped working and the eft blinker. If i hold the lever down (like push an extra 2cm) it comes on and works. It is sporadic.
I need to get to the filter in the rear ac panel. What is the best way to go about removing the Panel? How much do I have to remove?
View 6 RepliesMy ScanGauge just went blank, which was nuisance because I like to monitor it in the mountain climbs. It felt like a 'naked' dash without it. My separate pyrometer was the only additional info I had. The ScanGauge only has a few thousand miles on it. Wondering how reliable these things are before considering getting another, or inquiring about a fix I know I will first have to double check that the OBII port is still OK, but I expect it is.
