I have a '99 Explorer XLT and when I turn the high beams on, the fog/driving lights shut off. Is this normal? Is there a way I can keep the fogs on while the highs are on?

View 14 RepliesI have a 2006 F-250 Super Duty (6 liter diesel). The high beams stay on unless I pull the fuse (fuse 30). It doesn't matter what position the headlight switch is in. It is like the high beam flash on the multi-function switch is stuck. It feels fine, but high beams stay on regardless of position, even with the truck off. The low beams (if in low beam when the truck is shut off) do go out as do the running lights after 15 or so seconds (normal) it's just the high beams. Also the high beam indicator light is on all the time (until I pull the fuse) and the fog lights will not come on until I pull the fuse. Should I replace the multifunction switch or look elsewhere?
View 10 RepliesI have a 2003 Toyota Corolla CE manual transmission with 431,000 (not a typo) miles on it. About 7 weeks ago I noticed that when I turn on my high-beams after driving for awhile, the car dies for a few seconds. All lights go out, radio stops, engine stops and then it starts up again as if nothing happened. It will just do it once in about a half-hour time frame. I can switch the high-beams on and off repeatedly afterwards and it doesn't do it again. I have to drive for about a half-hour before it will do it again. I usually hear a slight pop sound when it does it.
A month later I noticed that if I parked it after driving for awhile, like at a gas pump, and get back in it, it acts as if the battery is dead for a few seconds. If I step on the clutch or open and close the driver door, the car comes back on. It appears that the battery was disconnected. The CD pops out of the player and all the radio station settings are gone. One morning last week I got in, and it had happened during the night. The CD was out, station settings gone, and the clock was 6.5 hours off.
I have had the car to a Toyota repair center 3 times. They have checked fuses, battery, battery cables, grounds, alternator, tensioner, looked for rodent nests, squirrels and I don't know what-all, etc. They can't find what is wrong. I am scared to drive it, but I depend on it. I commute 200 miles/day. I won't leave anything important in the car because I am afraid it will catch fire. I am scared I am going to have a wreck, too, with no lights and no power steering suddenly.
A good while back I seen a thread to do this , but can't locate it now. I have a 2012 F250 and looking to make my night time driving better ....... I want to run both low and high beams at the same time and getting the fog lamps to stay on when going from low to high beam.

In my manual, it says the 2002 has a fuse panel behind the glove box. I took glove box out but it doesn't look like a fuse panel.
I have an 2001 F250 SD with 7.3 Diesel. Headlight switch failed and I replaced it. But now I have no high beams and my dash lights that light the dash up don't work. Gauges, fog light, low beams all work fine. Fuses checked. Multi function switch checked. What to do next?

View 1 RepliesI have a 1997 Explorer XLT. The high beam have not worked since I got it and now living in Virginia they are needed to pass inspection. When turned on (pushed forward) lights go out, high beam indicator comes on. When flash to pass (pulled back) lows stay on and indicator comes on. It does not have auto lamps.
What I have done:
Replaced MFS
Verified power from GRY/ORG wire on MFS when turning high beams on.
Verified power across fuse #33 when switch turned on.
Had bulbs tested, Good.
No power on high beam wire at the bulb socket.
The only thing I have not checked is what several people have referred to as a "splice" I think someone referred to it as S111? Where this is physically located or am I going to have to start the chore of tracing the wires?
Any way to run fogs and high beams same time?

The dealership has no clue - they wanted to sell new bulbs. They are barely bright enough to drive at night, certainly not 10% dimmer from age as they described.. (plus the auto on does not work ).
The turn signals and high beams do not work on my 1998 ford ranger xlt 4x4. I have replaced the multi function switch, the yellow flasher relay checked all fusses and all are good. What could be the problem?
View 7 RepliesFor my 2013 with HID lights, I'm adding a light bar, and trying to find a good wire to tap into so I can wire in a relay to turn the light bar on with my high beams. As it's going to a relay, I originally thought to use a fuse tap, but the high beam fuse is always powered. Any other wire I can use in the cab?
I'm also looking for an in cab wire for the reverse lights I'm adding. I've been trying to make sense of the wiring diagrams online, but I am not having any success.
I recently installed new halo HID headlights in my 2003 f150 with HID bulbs and ballast the passenger side worked and the drivers side didn't nth lights wired exactly the same. I switched everything from the passenger to the drivers side still nothing I switched everything back to passenger side and they don't work now. I tired regular bulbs in the passenger side an it worked then on the drivers side and it worked for a split second and went out and then I retried t on the passenger side and it worked for a split second and went out a now neither are working. I checked all the fuses and their good. What the problem could be?
View 5 RepliesI just bought a 99 Explorer v8 2wd to replace my aging aerostar and to tow my boat. I already knew it had this problem and a destroyed rear diff when I bought it, I figured this would be the easiest problem with just a new switch. I was wrong.
pulled the fuze
pulled the headlight switch
pulled the relays at: power dist. box, keyless entery/alarm?, the box under the dash
disconnected the harness from the GEM behind the dash and from the keyless entery/alarm
Lights only go out when I pull the park lamp relay. I know what you may be thinking. But no. Its still not gonna be that easy. The relay is not bad or being activated. Its just acting as a jumper from pin 4 to 3. So out comes the test light.
At the park lamp relay (without the relay in)on the relay module I get power at 1, 5, and 4. When I ground 2 with the test light, the headlight relay kickes on. Which seems normal to me by my assumption of how the system works. Which is that these relays are only for the RAP module to flash the lights by grounding the 2 pin. Anyway... I think I've narrowed it down.
According to the wiring diagrams, the 4 pin should only get power from the headlight switch and the GEM from a white/black stripe wire. With the relay in (only to jump the power)I have unplugged both the headlight switch and GEM, and the lights stay on and there is power at 4. I figured the white/black wire may have a short to 12v and I would just bypass it. Then today I can disconnect the battery, then reconnect it and the lights will stay off. Keep in mind all other relays are out and everything is unplugged. If I plug the headlight switch back in, cycle the switch, the lights will go on and off correctly, but will eventually stay on. Even after removing the head light switch.
Does the white/black wire go to anything other than the switch, GEM, or relay. It doesn't say so in the diagram but I can't figure out why its getting power intermittently. Still thinking it could be a short I did a wiggle test on the dash harness to try to get them to come on if off or off if on. Nothing.
Didn't find anything on this, but I've noticed that on my GTI the Fog Lights stay on when the High Beams are turned on. Which I find unusual since no other car I've ever owned did this (Including my '12 TDI), and as far as I understood, in the US (At least here in NY), it was actually illegal to have them both on at the same time. ?

View 2 RepliesIt ford related but I just bought a used car that has hid low beams and when you turn on high beams there is no light at all. The blue light on dash comes on and head lights go off. I just got this car 2 days ago and haven't really looked into it.

Today I changed the high bulbs 9005 to a brighter pair trying to get a better DRLs, but when I tested the high beam by flashing I realized it turns both low & high beams on at the same time.
I have HID for low beam so that's not a good thing for me to flash. And I think I did it only one time in the past but now I won't do it again. Is it normal?
Anytime I turn the headlights on, the high beams go on too; I cannot switch off the high beams unless I turn off the headlights entirely (I have been driving with the low beams on during the day for the 5 years I have had the car)
I can find no reason for this; I'm inspecting the fuses (with little expectation). The only thing I can think of is the control switch or wiring. I have standard headlamps, not hid.
