Have an 06 2WD Explorer with 80,000mi and when driving down highway there is a bit of growling noise when any pressure is applied to the steering wheel. When driving straight not moving steering wheel its quite but when going around corner or curve tends to make noise. What I should be looking for? Brakes were replaced 10K miles ago. Ball joints or wheel bearings?

I've had a worsening growl in the front end that sounds like it's coming from the front left wheel. I can feel it in the steering wheel, and the sound goes away when I turn the wheel right of center. Center (going straight) or leftward steering, and the noise comes right back.
I changed the wheel bearing today, and there is absolutely no change in symptoms. Turning the CV shaft back and forth by hand, something feels kind of "grindy." It is the same at any point along the shaft, which has me worried that the bad bearing is in the front differential.
Front end has a growling noise. When pulling a load it is worse. When the front end has more weight the noise and vibration is less. When traveling dead straight now growl really but turn the wheel a fraction of an inch either left or and a growl vibration. Turns left or tight fully bring on the same hard growl. Steering pump is pumping fine. Either steering box or front wheel bearing is my guess. 2007 Explorer 4.6 ...
View 4 RepliesMy 97 Celica 1.8L has 190K miles on it. Recently it has developed growling noise when speed goes around 60 mph and intermittent front wheel vibration when goes above 70 mph. The vibration comes and goes by itself and most of the time is on slight left turn on highway. I replaced the stabilizer bars last year and the vibration went away but now it came back again. I can't pin point if the growling noise is from front or rear end. I plan to replace timing belt, water pump, lower ball joints and tie rod. What else I should do to get rid of noise and vibration.
View 5 RepliesI just recently had a new pressure hose (had a leak) replaced on the power steering pump but there is a slight squeaking noise when I turn the wheel. the mechanic says it'll go away after a week or so because of the new fluid that was put in? Is this correct?
View 4 RepliesI have 2007 Camry LE with about 88K miles on it. I get the growling noise from the read right wheel, particularly when turning right. I can very clearly hear it inside. Interestingly, this happens only first couple of times after I pull it off from parking.
I recently had the brakes and rotors replaced but the noise did not start coming until a couple of weeks later. I suspected it must have something to do with tires so I got them rotated. But that didn't stop the noise.
Initially, when I first heard the noise about 2 months back, it was very seldom but now it's almost everyday. When I got the tires rotated, I was told that I needed the rear wheels aligned. (But if it's due to alignment issue, shouldn't be coming from both wheels?)
I have only 42k km or 26 k miles. Brake stops but soft. The brake pedal sink if you apply pressure after a stop. Feels like someone open a valve. The pedal go to very low. I am find the stopping power is poor. Brake fluid is brownish. I hope it is not the master cylinder.
View 20 RepliesMy '02 has a growling noise only when I turn the wheel to the left. It doesn't seem to matter if it's turned slightly to the left or all the way, the noise is the same and you can feel it in the floor and wheel. If the wheel is straight or turned to the right, there isn't a noise at all. The growl is speed related and seems to be noticeable from 5mph and up. Does this sound like the typical power steering module when it's about to fail?
I took a video while driving to show the steering wheel, speedo and you could hear the growl as I turned the wheel, but I wasn't able to attach it to this message. I did get the PS error on the MFD 2 times in the last 2 weeks. What does the power steering module look like and how tough is it for a DIY'er to replace?
So I have a 2003 Passat wagon. While driving down the road with no brake pressure applied the front right brake makes a squealing noise. As if the caliper doesn't release pressure....what should I do? Any hints?
View 6 RepliesI have an 06 f250 that is making a growling noise that is speed sensitive and sounds like it might be coming from the front. I thought it was tire noise from my old worn out tires but with new tires it still maks noise, but tires have pretty rough tread. How can I tell if it could be a wheel bearing? It seems like the noise quiets down a little on right turns. It is kind of a growling humming noise that changes with speed.

On the passenger side when I apply slight pressure to the headliner, I get the following noise. In person it sounds like plastic tubes knocking around. The driver's side does not do this.
2010 v6 4wd. I have some growling in my front end. I got the truck in the air and neither wheel has any wobble (to check the front wheel hub assembly). I got under the truck and disconnected the large plug going into the T/C. Still noisy.
This truck used to be so quiet, but a couple years ago I had uneven tires that caused the 4wd to be on a ton. I just replaced all 4 a few weeks ago and that did not change the noise.
Is it possible that a bearing is still the culprit even without wobble? I can weave right and left and cannot notice it getting better or worse.
Also noticing my gas mileage dipping over the years, I am down to low 18s/high 17s with somewhat highway miles (2 miles of my commute around 35mph and the other 18ish going around 55 with 1 or 2 stops).
I just purchased a used 2007 Lexus GS 350 AWD. I had it inspected and there were some minor problems (air filter, small oil issue) but nothing big. Driving it, I've noticed that the wheel shakes a little bit when applying brakes and based on my google searches, it's likely a rotor problem. I've literally only driven the car less than 100 miles since it was inspected. Does the inspection place (Tires Plus) bear any responsibility for clearing the inspection on the car? Should I take the car to Tires Plus to look at or should I take it somewhere else?

View 4 RepliesMy Elantra has been making a click noise every time I turn the steering wheel. The noise comes from somewhere in the area behind the wheel, not from the engine apartment.
If I turn the steering without turning on engine, the noise could still be heard. So I am quite sure its' not a power steering problem.
So far there is no effect on driving, I could turn normally and the power steering works well.
Doesn't seem to be a problem with the indicator light switch as they still work as normal.
When i start the car ticks randomly under the steering wheel it sound for the left side fuse box to the ignition key but i can located for sure because stop in 5 or 6 seconds, and just do it when i start the car and then just go away.
View 1 RepliesI bought an 09 Accent and love the car, good mileage and actually quiet. I have developed a noise when I turn my steering wheel. It is not there when the car is cold, but after a few moments, when I turn a corner, I hear sort of rubber on rubber sound as I turn the steering wheel.
View 2 RepliesMy wife has an 09 accent equipped with the 1.6 and 5spd manual. When it gets cold (close to freezing and under) fourth gear starts to make a whining/growling noise that gets louder with more load. Once it is warm it completely goes away. What is going on here?
View 1 RepliesWe have a 2010 Hyundai Accent, with low miles (10,000), and the A/C Compressor is making a "growling" noise. The only way to explain the noise is when you hear a human try to immiate the sound of a dog growling. That's exactly what it sounds like.
First thing in the morning it doesn't make the noise to much, but as you drive for a bit you will start to hear it. Sometimes it's really loud, sometimes quieter. When you shut the A/C off, it will continue for a few seconds then stop.
The service department told me it was the compressor and it is, "pretty normal on the cars." How is that normal though? It sounds awful.
