Ford F-150 - 1997-2003 :: Codes P0302 And P0401 / Misfire Due To A Loose Injector Plug

Jul 22, 2014

My 97 F150 4.6 4x4 threw a P0302 and P0401 the other day, I traced the miss fire to a loose injector plug. I reset the codes last weekend, I got in the truck and went to the Dump and to town to pick some stuff up. It threw the EGR code again, so this morning I did a little checking on the EGR I cranked the truck and disconnected the FPR vacuum line and hooked it to the EGR valve and the truck died down but didn't completely die.

Now the green line that went to the EGR valve felt like it had a slight bit of pressure coming from it. Is this normal? I did pull the white feed line from the EGR Regulator and it had good vacuum.

The regulator also makes a humming sound when you cut the truck off. Ill be pulling the alternator this weekend due to it going out last night, while I'm in there if Ive got to pull the throttle body id rather do it while I'm elbow deep in it. So does it sound more like a Clogged Throttle body or a Faulty sensor?

Ford F-150 (2004-2008) :: CEL Codes P0302 And P0316 After Putting Injector Cleaner In The Tank

My 04 F-150 has recently been blowing these two codes. I've replaced the coil pack already and it is still making the check engine line come off. Just put some injector cleaner in the tank last night, so that might take a while to work through. What I should be looking for?

Ford F-150 - 1997-2003 :: 2001 5.4L V8 Won't Start - Codes P0401 And P1740

My truck, the aforementioned 01 f150 5.4 has been running fine but has had the codes p0401 and p1740. I know what they both mean I just haven't fixed them yet. Today I went to move my truck and it wouldnt start. It turned over fine and would hit some but wouldn't start. Would the tcc solenoid be the cause of that? Also the reason my egr is throwing is because there is a line that is not connected but I have no clue where it connects to... Where is the best place to get diagrams for the egr system.

Ford F-150 - 1997-2003 :: Shuttering Pretty Alerting Under Light Load At 35 - 45mph - Codes P0302 And P0171

I have a 1998 F150 5.4L 4WD with 192k mi on it. Recently ( suddenly ) the vehicle began shuttering pretty alerting under light load at 35 - 45mph. The engine idle was intermittently smooth then rough. I quickly drove the truck home and ran a Trouble Code check with my Autoxray EZ-scan 4000 and found the two trouble codes P0302 and P0171. I have checked for vacuum hose cracks and found none.

Replaced the fuel filter, PCV valve, and cleaned the MAF sensor ( dirty ).
Right after cleaning the MAF sensor the idle remained smooth - but stumbling immediately when put in drive. Driving at 35-45mph still exhibits intermittent shuttering and occasional very short bursts of what feel like complete engine shut-down. This all is evident under light to moderate load .

At this point what would you recommend ? Replacing the O2 sensor bank #1 ? Or is there a possibility maybe the EGR valve is faulty - or another vacuum valve somewhere ? Intake manifold leak ?

The severe stumbling and very short complete engine shut downs would indicate that maybe the computer is failing or it's a fuel delivery issue? What rational steps to take next ?

Ford Excursion :: 2000 - Misfire - Got Codes P0301 And P0302?

2000 Ford Ex 5.4 V8 175K miles

Top of radiator (plastic part) had a small crack and started leaking on drivers side. Fixed with JB Weld. Ran fine for a day. Now I have a bad misfire and codes P0301 and P0302 (Cyl 1 and 2). Cleaned MAF and checked Air Filter. All good. Plugs replaced at dealer less than 20K miles ago.

So I took off Cyl 5 (easiest) and found that the boot is fine but the collar on the boot is done for. Can this cause the issue?

Passat (B6) :: Error Code P0302 / Misfire In Cylinder 2 - Oil On Spark Plug

Getting error code p0302, misfire in 2, pulled the plug and had oil on the treads and on the lower part. My guess is the valve cover gasket, but I'm not 100 percent sure.

Prius (2004-09) :: 2006 - Got Codes P0301 And P0302 / Misfire At Low RPM?

This has been an ongoing issue with our 2006. We purchased the car about a year ago and have put on just over 8,000 miles. Rebuilt the battery pack and replaced the 12v battery. This is my wife's car and I have a 2005, so I have done some diagnostics, tuneup, and even swapped some parts between the two cars trying to narrow down the issues.

Only recently have codes been recorded. The car is has a noticeable misfire at low RPM. Here is what has happened up until now:

11/29/15 - replaced spark plugs - #1 was fouled so I swapped coils between cylinders 1 and 4

2/25/16 - replaced 12v battery with new battery

4/1/16 - P0300, P0301 codes were first recorded and reset to see if they came back

4/10/16 - swapped Integration Relay with my 2005 (part # 82641-47010). My 2005 ran poorly after the swap, so I put a used one in my 2005.

Ford F-150 - 1997-2003 :: Misfire Error Codes - CEL On?

Truck has been running rough and the check engine light was on so I decided to get the codes read and I got back P0302 and P0304, which from what I understand is a misfire on cylinders 3 & 4. At the same time I got Ford to do a little diagnostic and this is what they wrote for me:

"The connector for the number 2 coil is broken and will not stay plugged on to the coil and the number 2 coil is not working / replaced the wire for the coil still running rough removed the coil and plug. the plug was very badly fuel soaked started the vehicle to see if there was spark at the plug. OK. Suspect either a injector issue or a compression issue cleaned the plug seems better. "

So of course they quoted me for the works. They say I should replace the coils, plugs, and injectors???

I am pretty mechanically inclined and think I could change these things myself since I am on a budget. One tech told me is that the plugs can seize in these engines often and could scrap the whole thing??? Seems a little weird. If that happens though what could I do?

Ford F-150 - 1997-2003 :: Error Codes - Misfire Detected On Cylinders 2 / 5 And 6

My wife and I received her father's 2002 F150 4.2 5 speed 2 wheel drive truck after his passing. He purchased new plug wires and wanted to replace them. So, this weekend I put in new plugs, plug wires, changed the air filter, and changed the oil and filter. Started up and ran really rough. Threw my code reader on after taking it around the block and found the following codes...

P0316 Misfire detected in first 1000 revs,
P0302 Cylinder 2 misfire,
P0305 Cylinder 5 misfire,
P0306 Cylinder 6 misfire.

New plugs were Motorcraft plugs, but had skinnier center compared to the ones that came out of truck.

Where do I start? What do I do? I am really confused as I have changed plugs and wires before and always had vehicle run better or same as before change.

Ford F-150 - 1997-2003 :: Stumbling A Lot - Throwing Misfire Codes On 1 / 8 / 4 And 3 Cylinders

Recently bought 98 f150 xlt 3 door 5speed 4x4 4.6l 230k miles for $1k was throwing misfire codes on 1,8,4,3 cylinders. Usually throws two cylinders at a time and never the same cylinders consecutively

Parts replaced:

coils...msd blaster
belden wire
motorcraft plugs...when i did these it ran perfect for a tank of fuel...18mpg no stumble
two cans seafoam through the tank
tank was dropped and drained
fuel filter
one can seafoam intake cleaner
3" exhaust from the Y pipe back
MAF cleaned

Previous owner said to have tested and cleaned injectors but I am not positive it was done... I don't think its mechanical because it wanders through the cylinders and when i changed the plugs it ran spot on. it gets worse the warmer the truck gets also.

injectors?
clogged small cats?
sensor?

Ford F-150 - 1997-2003 :: CEL Codes P0304 / P0456 / P0171 - Misfire On Cylinder 4

So, my 2003 F150 4.6 that I just put back on the road after a four month break is running like crap. I took it off the road for the winter because it was missing (no codes) and didn't feel like dealing with it then but after running it for a day the CEL comes on. It shows the following:

P0304 - hoping it is a coil pack
P0456 - pending. Gas cap?
P0171 - pending. One bank too lean?

Does the 171 code possibly have to do with the misfire in Cylinder 4? I know it is impossible to tell yet but am hoping there is a potential connection.

Before I parked it in January, it was running a bit rough and stumbled on acceleration but never would show a code. Now all this. Going to change the coil first, tighten the gas cap, check for leaks and see what happens but is there anything common on these trucks that I should also be looking at?

Windstar :: 1997 GL 3.8L - Intermittent Misfire On 2 / Code Reads P0302

I have a new (to me) '97 Windstar with 128K +. C.E.L. is on and intermittently flashing. The code reads P0302 (Cylinder 2 Mis-fire). No other codes are set. Have cleared them many times and gone through multiple drive cycles.

Description of issue: After clearing the codes, and indeed upon each startup, the car starts and idles smoothly without hesitation or issue. It pulls away from parked position without issue. Appears to accelerate just fine. In stop-and-go traffic or directly onto the highway it seems to run smoothly without problem. After a period of time (I don't believe it to be consistent), it will start to misfire and the C.E.L. will be set. If it is still misfiring, the light will flash.

Here's the weird part...when stopping at a traffic light or just continuing to drive on the highway, the misfire will resolve and the car will run smoothly again. The C.E.L., trailing the condition by a bit, will go to solid from flashing and will remain that way until a little farther down the road. The misfire never seems to be more than one cylinder and the trouble code seems to bear that out. Just idling, the car will return to smooth operation and it seems to have smooth acceleration. In other words, the misfire seems to go away under acceleration.

What I've done: I've replaced plugs and wires. No change. Replaced Coil pack. No change.

Next steps: Next steps seem to be looking to fuel or air. My concern with that approach is the occasional nature of the problem. Compression problems would be consistent across the board, right? That cylinder would always be a problem. Same thing for fuel (fuel pump and/or filter). All cylinders would have the problem and it would have issues starting. OK, next thing--injector. Would an injector have spotty performance like this? Also, could it be related to the EGR ports on the intake on this vintage Windstar? (Once again, is an intermittent problem consistent?) Finally, since the primary circuit for spark is controlled by a PCM pin setting a ground for each cylinder, could the PCM, or wiring, be the culprit?

Ford F-150 - 1997-2003 :: P0401 Code - Vacuum Lines?

So here's the background. I recently bought this truck. It's a 97 Ford f150 4x4 4.6l 99w vin code. Anyway Driving it home got a p0401. No problem. I Applied vacuum from other vacuum source to EGR engine stalls. So to me passages are clean in the throttle body. I checked to verify and indeed passages are clean. No while doing so I noticed no vacuum was making its way to the dose valve thing. Strange.... So took the line that runs to the passenger fender to dose off and it was impossible to blow air through.

So I cut out the clogged section found solder in the line. I filled the gap I now created using some 5/32 vacuum line reconnected to test and to my anvil still not vacuum. So I disconnected it again. Went directly to where the yellow/orange dose vacuum line connects to at the passenger fender and to my surprise no vacuum there either. No my question is. Am i suppose to have constant vacuum to the dpse or I'm I just being an idiot. And two if I am suppose to when the vacuum line runs into the passange fender where does it go from there and could I have a major issue in my hands?

Ford F-150 - 1997-2003 :: P0401 OBD2 Code / Vacuum Leaks

I've had a 0401 code on my truck for the last two years. I've replaced the EGR valve and the dpfe sensor a couple of times, with fomoco parts. Ive also cleaned out the egr tube that comes off the exhaust manifold. In this time I also discovered a couple of vacuum leaks and replaced those. I changed the pcv valve, tried running 93 octane gas, and had a mechanic friend run a special smoke through the vacuum lines to find more leaks. Also put a brand new gas cap. I have an obd computer and cleared the code repeatedly but the light always returns.
