My transfer case will only pull vacuum to the hubs when floor shifter is in between 4 low and 4 high. as soon as the dash light comes on for low or high it looses vacuum. Is there a switch that tells it to pull vacuum? Any good breakdown of the transfer case?
View 6 RepliesI found that my transmission was low on oil but couldn't find a leak. What I did find is that the seal in the transfer case was letting trans fluid transfer into it and then it would leak out the out put seal. I purchased the new seal and gasket and repaired it myself in about 3 hours. I removed the rear drive shaft and removed the front drive shaft from the transfer case alone or you can take it out completely if you want.
Drained transfer case unplugged wiring and one vacuum line. Unbloted from trans and removed using trans jack. The bolts are not the easiest to get to. i used a 3/8 ratchet to break them loose then used a stubby 3/8 to get them out because they are around 2 inches long. Once down I had to jack up the truck to get it out from under it. I removed the old seal and installed new one cleaned everything up and installed with a new gasket.
On my 2007 f150 5.4 last week i changed out the driveshaft and it smoothed things out. This past weekend I dropped the transfer case oil and refilled it with motorcraft transfer case oil as per ford but now the front end seems to shake more than before. It just seems to come through the steering wheel but the wheel seems tight almost like a death wobble with solid front axles except obviously this truck doesn't have that. There are no leaks and I filled it up to the top fill hole with between 1.5 to 2 liters of oil until it started running out. I should also mention that when i went to check the level it was overfull on the top plug but it was that way for the last 90,000 km or so.
View 3 RepliesI've read a few posts of people trying and they say the cant be removed but I just don't believe it! I cut off some of the rubber on the with a knife and its all white plastic underneath.. I just don't believe that its actually impossible to remove this.
View 3 RepliesI have a problem transfer case 2006 f-150 , it tries to engage once in a while as I am driving and makes a terrible noise . I pulled the vacuum lines off at the hubs on each front hub and it stopped trying to engage. What the problem could be ?
View 1 Replies2014. Noticed the feel and sometimes clunk when shifting to 4 high? My house sits up a hill and this time of year, routinely have to use 4X4 to get up. There is a little more noise and vibration than im use to. Usually shift coming down a semi flat dirt/ice road at low speeds, typically about 10mph. Going in for first oil change soon and was gonna ask them to check it out for peace of mind.
View 6 RepliesI have an 05 Escape XLT 4WD worth 3.0L V6. My HAYNES says the transfer case lubricant should be checked every 15k - I bought it with 75k and it has 107k now and I have never checked it. I am wondering if it is common practice to do this every 15k? The transfer case is then one next to the oil pan? The book has one photo.
View 1 RepliesMy 97 4.6 ran fine but the 4x4 light came on even when the transfer case lever was in 2wd. Then one day it would not start. It cranked over fine but would not fire. I added fuel but it didn't work. I pulled a spark plug lead and attached a spark plug while I jumped the solenoid and cranked over the engine to visually check for a spark as I have done on older trucks. Well it cranked a couple of times and then it died and won't even crank now, I must've fried something, the batterys fine. If there is a fuse or something? What could have happened when I jumped the solenoid?

I just had the front drive shaft rebuilt with new universals and ball. It was making a metallic squealing noise after this.
I noticed that the front drive shaft did not spin freely when parked in nuetral and set for 2WD. I thought the front drive shaft would only engage when in 4WD.
I have had a 2005 f150 v6 5 speed for a little over two years. Got about 153k on it. Last night was sitting in a parking lot idling about 20-25 minutes, went to leave and she started sputtering hard, lost all power and died. Started back up, idled fine, as soon as i put it in gear same thing then the check engine light came on.
View 3 RepliesI just installed a set of HID conversion kit on my 2005 F-150 STX. It is only one beam bulb so therefor I have no high beams. Also, to remind you I have fog lights on the truck. My question is, when I turn my head lights on, and pull the switch to turn on the fog lights, a "blue light" indicator lights up on the dash. It is the high beam indicator and why that is lit. As far as I remember, that light never came on before the install. You have to excuse me since this is my first truck ever and I just got it back after having it repaired at the body shop the last two months. So technically, I only had the truck for 2 months....Just curious whether the blue light is suppose to be on when the fogs are on the dash.
View 14 RepliesI'm in the process of changing my shift motor on my 04 f350. I can't get it off because of a broken bolt. The previous owner must have done this before, and snapped the head and some of the shaft off, so it's basically an alignment pin that's recessed into the hole on the motor. For some reason it's holding the motor on, even though I don't think the hole is threaded. Any way to get it off. I'm thinking that taking a MAP gas torch to the casting on the motor may be my best bet.

Says it can be locked into 4X4 by crawling under it and engaging it manually by removing a motor [Servo motor ?] Does this mean I would need a new transfer case or just the servo motor ? I know mine did the same thing last winter. It would go into 4X4 and then pop out.

2003 ex 6.0 limited....300000 miles ...Automatic.Merry Christmas to all.My Transfer case will not shift into 4wd . Dash light for 4wd high and low works .I get no power to transfer case 2pin connector when key turned on.Also fuses 19,27,31,33,34,45,111 are all good when checked with meter.I also swapped 2 relays in engine compartment and no change.4 WD Switch on dash has power on Green/red wire I think it is for dash light and not for operation.
View 13 RepliesSwapped out my transfer case since mine was detonated and now my tranny is running hotter? Drove in town for about 10-15 minutes and noticed my temps climbing and once it got to 180 it felt like it was slipping when moving from a full stop. i went home and parked it. Checked my fluid level and it looked a little low so topped it off while running and went through gears to make sure it was good. Drove again and it still went up to 180 in 10-15 minutes in town driving. Before we swapped the transfer case it was driving fine and went on a road trip 6 hour drive and felt fine. I bought the excursion and it supposedly had a new tranny in it.
View 14 RepliesSo long story short I have a 92 Aerostar AWD which I'm pretty sure had the transfer case recall done (97V204000 1992 FORD AEROSTAR Recalls) it has the aluminum driveshaft but a couple of years ago the transfer case cracked and I replaced it with a "New OEM" transfer case off eBay. Fast forward to the present and my van has a strong vibration at 60+ my transmission guy says it all looks good so the vibration has to be from one of the driveshafts. My thought is that I may have got a transfer case without the recall done on it and its warped my driveshaft. I don't really know thats possible or what I could do about it if that was the case.
View 8 RepliesI bought a new to me 03 explorer 4.6 tow package XLT 136000mi. Rebuilt aamco trans with 10k on it. Been checking it over before i put it on the road.. No 4x4 but the button lites work and i got into low range once. (Had a hell of a time getting back to high but eventually it did). Question is if there is 12v at the brown wire on the TC the case should be fully locked? I figure when i check it if there is not 12v at the brown wire in 4x4 high i could apply 12v directly with a jumper wire to see if the case locks to 4x4. Am I correct?
View 2 RepliesAbout 9 months ago heard a strange noise when shifted into 4 wd , sounded like driving over those grooves on the side of the highway to keep people awake.
Had to pull over to stop , as it would not go back into 2wd with the noise still going.
Then it stopped , after shutting truck off and restarting.
Then earlier this year after trying to do it again in 4wd had bad clunking noise and was hard to get back in 2wd , I can here the shift motor engaging and the dash reads in 4wd, seems its not engaging fully in 4wd and not going back to 2wd, its a very bad clunking noise, shakes the whole truck.
