Ford F-150 (2004-2008) :: 2007 - Front End Bounce / Thump On One Side At Slow Speeds?

Feb 23, 2017

2007 Ford Fx4 with 6 inch suspension lift. Just rebuilt front suspension. I Had bad upper ball joints and one of the hubs was bad. Also had a bad tie rod end on one side. The tires began to wear excessively on the inside and quickly degraded.

I figured since I was in there, I would just change everything. I replaced upper control arms, lower ball joints, stabilizer bar links, strut assemblies, and inner and outer tie rods on both sides. Obviously everything is much better. But...

On test driving and running short errands near the house, it seems like I can still sense a slight thumping/clunking or bounce from the right side at slow speeds at times. It is hard to describe because there isn't really a sound associated with it. It is not constant; it feels a bit like a ball joint just starting to go. I cannot identify it with any of the new parts, they all check out and nuts are tight, etc.

I have not gotten an alignment yet. Getting new tires and alignment Saturday. Tires are in pretty bad shape. But, alignment isn't too badly off and at slow speeds around the neighborhood its more of a bouncing after a road seam or when accelerating from a stop, etc.

when I was doing the work, one of the half shafts had more play than the other. It was easier to move out of the way to install the shocks and lower ball joints. I could easily bend it over past the stabilizer bar link and use the link to hold it out of the way. Is this normal? I have never owned a vehicle with IFS and CVs before. Could the bouncing/clunking be caused by a worn CV joint, even in 2wd?

Santa Fe (CM - 2007-12) :: 2008 GLS Hesitates / Jerks Usually During Slow Speeds

Purchased this car new. 2008 GLS w/ V6 2.7L engine. Wife's car, so I rarely drive it. She's complained for a month about an intermittent issue with the jar "jerking", usually during slow speeds.

I felt it for the first time myself. Was halfway through a pretty tight curve at around 20 MPH, starting to slowly accelerate when I felt a definitive lurch. might have been momentary loss of acceleration, or transmission. Not sure which. No CEL thrown.

I did see another thread mentioning a 2007 with a similar issue, but that person had codes thrown that pointed to a Throttle position sensor and a need to reflash a transmission. Think I'm seeing the same situation, or would this be different ? Absent any CEL, I'm sure the dealer will not be able to find it....

Ford F-150 (2004-2008) :: Metallic Clunks When Take Right Or Left Turns At Slow Speeds

I've noticed that when I take right or left turns at slow speeds I hear a series of clunks. Sounds like a pipe rolling in the bed. Guessing it has something to do with the rear springs??

Ford F-150 (2004-2008) :: 2007 - Creaking Sound Coming From Driver Side Front Wheel Area?

MY '07 SuperCab just started making a strange rhythmic sound as I drive. It is coming from the drivers side front wheel area. It is like a short creaking sound. It stays the same if I am turning the tires. Seems to go away if I put the brakes on hard, but I slow down so much I am not sure. Front CV Joint?

Ford F-150 (2004-2008) :: 2007 - Vibration From About 45 - 50 And 70 - 80 Speeds

I have a 2007 F150 (2wd) with 80k. My truck recently was vibrating under braking so i took it to my mechanic to have the brakes fixed. All the rotors needed to be replaced. In doing so, the front rotors were changed out with the kit that converts the front rotor/bearing assembly into two separate pieces to cut down on maintenance costs in the future. With this being said, after getting this work done, the truck didn't vibrate anymore... that is until i got it out on the highway. Now the truck vibrates from about 45-50 and 70-80 pretty bad. The steering wheel shakes back and forth too. I have gotten the tires balanced in hopes to fix this problem which it didnt. What could this problem be?

Ford F-150 (2004-2008) :: Rear End Hop / Bounce - Vibration Above 65 MPH

I purchased a used 2008 F150 with 62,000 miles. The truck is in excellent condition and is a crew cab with the short bed and the 4.6 v8 engine. I changed the 17 inch wheels to a set of Ford 18 inch wheels with Goodyear tires that came off another 2008 F150( XLT model). The tires had less than 15,000 miles on them. Since that time I have replaced 3 of the 4 tires because I could not get the tires to balance out properly. I have had all the tires and wheels balanced with the road pressure balance and the front and rear end have both been aligned.

I cannot get the RIGHT REAR of the truck to keep from bouncing and hopping at almost any speed. It changes from day to day a little bit but while slowing down I get the hop vibration( when I apply my brakes) and while at speed ( mostly 45-55) and above 65 I can constantly feel the truck vibrating. It is apparent it is the right rear. I took it back to the dealership where I bought it used , they could not find any issue. At some time, the rear cover to the rear end has been taken off but I cannot find any information through normal channels as to why.

I was by the shop that balanced the tires it is a Goodyear problem. All I know is that I cannot enjoy my ride due to this very apparent hop/bounce from the rear end. The alignment shop said they could not do anything more to make it better. Is there a FIX to this? Is it a problem with this model truck? The truck has 69,000 miles on it now.

Santa Fe (CM - 2007-12) :: Front End Driver Side Chatter At Speeds Between 5 And 15 MPH

I had to replace a seized caliper last month on front driver side. Replacement went without a hitch. However I recently noticed pulling to the left pretty severe on the driver side. Also at speeds between 5 and 15 MPH I hear chatter from the front end.

*Every boot on the suspension is in good shape.
*Nothing rubbing against the rotor
*Chatter does not occur when turning the wheel
* Feel some play pulling from 10 and 3 on the tire
* Tires up in the air and spinning I don't hear any chatter
* Stabilizers are tight and sound

Im not good at diagnosing suspension, how to properly diagnose? Based on my prior experience with vehicles I am thinking Ball Joint in this case?

Ford F-150 (2004-2008) :: 2007 - Ticking Sound At Highway Speeds

I have a 2007 F150 King Ranch Super Crew 5.4 3v and it makes a ticking sound. I have read about the VCT solenoids and the phasers. My issue is that the ticking noise can be heard at Highway speeds. At it seems to be quicker as the engine speed increase. Not sure what to think. No rough idle. What could this be.

Ford F-150 (2004-2008) :: 2007 - Rear Driveline Vibration At All Speeds

On my 07' I bought it home mid AUG. It has been getting much worse to a point there is a rear driveline vibration at all speeds above 40 and up to 70. I used to change intensity whether you are on or off the gas, and would almost vanish if in neutral. However now it is all the time.

I cannot feel any play on the u-joints, the yoke has a little play in the xfer case but is is normal like on most other trucks I have owned, and the pinion flange is nice and tight. Could this be **tight** ujoints or the driveshaft itself? It looks rusty, but there are no dents on it.

Ford F-150 (2004-2008) :: 2007 - Vibration And Noise At Highway Speeds

First, details about my truck. 2007 F150 SuperCrew, 2wd, 5.4, 203,xxx miles on it, leveled with Hell Bent Steel 2.5" kit last year, has been aligned professionally since then, tires are good and balanced.

The issue I have is a vibration, kind of the same feeling when driving on a road surface that has had the top level of asphalt removed before it's resurfaced. It's mostly noticable at highway speeds. Its not a violent type vibration, but you can feel it. There is also a sound, similar to tires with a deep off road type tread.

The sound and vibration more noticeable when making lane changes or when wheel turned towards left, at highway speeds, not as much to the right. I've checked front wheel bearings, they are good, zero play, no loose suspension parts, u-joints are good, no leaks anywhere.

Since it makes the noise and vibration a bit more when moving wheel, could it be a power steering pump? The pump is the original.

Ford F-150 (2004-2008) :: Humming Noise From Rear Side Occurs At All Speeds

A very odd hum from the rear (2005 f150 4.2) that occurs at all speeds. Low speed it occurs regardless of load on the drive line. At higher speeds it only happens when i have considerable load on the drive line. All bearings in the diff were replaced less than a year ago when the main pinion bearing went and the diff gears were in pretty dam good condition. Wheel bearings are not getting warm to indicate a wheel bearing. And when i let off the throttle it hums for a few seconds and dissipates as the tension on the drive line goes away. I even looked at the carrier bearing assy and it seems to be in good working order. I live pretty dam far from any type of service so i was just curious before i start trying to trouble shoot this any further.

Ford F-150 (2004-2008) :: 2007 - Intermittent Rough Idle At Low Speeds When Engine Is Warm

Still showing the same codes (per repairman) and still having the intermittent rough idle at low speeds when the engine is warm. It has been so intermittent that I could almost live with it.

So repair guys first replaces the VCT's and runs fine until warmed up and the problem reoccurs with the same codes. He replaces both cam phasers and tensioners today and still same problem and same codes which point to the VCT and cam phasers.

Truck has 80k, city driven, oil changed every 3k or so. Burns ethanol and still runs great at speeds over 10 mph even when this problem appears.

Ford Ranger / B-Series :: 1998 B2500 - Squeaking Front End At Slow Speeds

I have had my 1998 Mazda B2500 truck since 2000 and this problem comes and goes (it's mostly been gone lately). Usually when it is cold outside. At slow speeds it creaks and squeaks - kinda embarrassing - if I am sitting still it squeaks when I turn the steering wheel. Once the speed picks up you can't hear it. I have noticed this in other fords about the same year.

Ford Super Duty (1999-2016) :: 2008 - Click In The Steering Wheel At Slow Speeds

2008 F-350 ... Getting a click in the steering wheel. Slow speeds in parking lots. Even with the truck off you can manually move the wheel and notice it has play. Maybe 1/16" - 1/8" of play

Read a few old posts saying there was an TSB on it TSB 05-15-1 ... Couple of the posts say they replaced the steering column. Wanted some input before I pull this apart. It's more annoying than anything ..

Ford 6.0L Power Stroke Diesel :: Clicking Noise Coming From Front End When Applying Brakes At Slow Speeds

A while back I posted a thread trying to fix a clicking noise coming from the front end on my F-350 dually when applying the brakes at slow speeds (under 15 mph).

While returning from our camping trip last week the noise is back again. It does not occur after the truck sits overnight or for a few hours. But after driving for 30 minutes or longer the clicking will return when I apply the brakes at slow speeds. I tested the rotor temps with a heat gun and it seems to start when the rotor temps get above 120 degrees F. So I removed the brake pads & calipers, regreased the slide pins, cleaned up the pads and applied some lubricant on the back of the pads. I also bent the pad clips so they would fit snugger/tighter in the slots.

Whatever I did seemed to cure the clicking while driving around this weekend. I made sure I got the front brakes nice and warm - up to 180 degrees or so.

When I did this same procedure a few months ago the clicking went away - but eventually returned.

Should I get some better clips? Replace the sliding pins? Pads? The rotors & pads were replaced this winter & the shop said they and the labor are still under warranty. But if they use the same clips - I'm concerned I'll be back to square one in a month or so.

Camry :: 2002 - Thump / Clunk Near Passenger Side Front Wheel When Braking?

I have a 2002 Camry, and recently on the passenger side towards the front wheel there has been a fairly persistent thump or clunk when I brake at low speeds (i.e. immediately before a full stop). I took it to my local mechanic yesterday to see if he could figure it out, and unfortunately he wasn't, although he did point out that my dog bone was cracked and suggested changing that out. Afterwards, the thump/clunk did seem to be more subdued, but it's still obviously there.

Expedition :: 2000 - Loud Clicking Noise From Front End At Slow Speeds?

I have a 00 expedition 4wheel drive eddie bauer. 100k miles. New tires, recent alignment, new upper ball joints and tie rod ends, recent suspension change over to passive system with new shocks. Also must note I have "newer" front wheel bearings but they were from advance auto and not the suggested Moog ones.

I have a loud clicking noise at slow speeds. def sounds like its coming from the front area. Speeds up and slows down with acceleration. brakes do not change noise other than slow it down with tires. The truck also vibrates on the highway. I notice the tires are wearing (cupping)

Is it the cheap wheel bearings? what is the best way to test for bad wheel bearings? i think they are under warranty if I can find the receipt. Anything else i should test? can it be c/v joints or something?

Golf IV / Jetta IV :: 2003 - Front End Squeak / Creaking Usually At Slow Speeds

I have a 03 mkIV 2.0 with just over 106k miles. I have been noticing a sqeak/creaking noise coming from the front end usually at slow speeds and going over small bumps or even bad backroads. I can simply push down on the front of the car and hear it and it sounds just terrible. I took it to my local tire shop and they said it could be my sway bay links and bushings, but they look brand new and show no signs of deterioration. My struts and shocks are fine. Could it be ball joints or control arms?

Chrysler - Pacifica :: Creaking Noise Coming From Front End And Only Appear At Very Slow Speeds

I am considering purchasing a 2004 Chrysler Pacifica. It seems to be in excellent shape except for one thing--it makes a very noticeable creaking noise. The noise is coming from the front end and seems to only appear at very slow speeds (like in parking lots). The seller told me up front about the noise, and explained that it didn't start until he had someone "jerk" him out of a snowdrift in Colorado. He says that was about 4 years ago. He tells me he has had the front end aligned, he has had two motor mounts replaced and has had either the tie rods, or the tie rod ends (I'm not sure which) replaced, but the noise is still there. He claims mechanics can't find anything else wrong with it, and they assure him it is safe to drive.
