I've noticed that when I take right or left turns at slow speeds I hear a series of clunks. Sounds like a pipe rolling in the bed. Guessing it has something to do with the rear springs??
View 2 RepliesPurchased one owner Prius from Honda dealer May 2014 with 92000 miles.Now 2 months later 94000. Both service departments of Honda and a Toyota dealer said my car handles normally for a Prius.The car dips from left to right while driving at slow and highway speeds. It feels like a boat moving through water. The suspension was said to be good.Driving it feels unstable, like a Montero Sport or a stage coach. I wanted to do a lot of driving this summer, but this feels so uncomfortable.
View 5 RepliesMy Honda has a pop or clunk when braking at low speeds( below 5mph) just before coming to a stop. It will pop as I start forward again (below 5mph). It only occurs when the outside temperature is above 90-95 degrees and after driving for 10-15 minutes. Dealership has looked at it twice and has not found any issue. I've changed brake pads and rotors as well as lubricated everything - didn't work. Brake performance, handling, etc isn't affected. It's highly annoying and makes me worry that something will eventually fail.

Throws a code for crank position sensor, also will say unexpected low idle which would explain why so many of us have low oil pressure while this is happening. So after years of worrying and reading these forums and stalling at stop signs I take to the shop. And it was the throttle body needed cleaned. No more problems. Runs like a new one. I have used Lucas fuel treatment for years in this truck. Im a big fan of their products. When this problem began I was adding Lucas with every tank of fuel.
I buy it by the gallon jug. I used some Lucas from this same jug on the wifeys Denali and her truck stalled out once or twice. She wouldn't ever let me add any to her gas again lol, I argued with her that it wasn't because of the Lucas additive. Never the less it never stalled again. Maybe I got a bad batch, maybe I used too much, or maybe it had nothing to do with the additive. But I thought it needed to be mentioned since it is supposed to be a cleaner, and since I carried it in my tool box and added it to almost every tank of fuel. I was adding about 7 ounces per tank. Who knows? But the problem with this truck is that the throttle body did need cleaned.
I am suddenly getting noise during left turns in my 2004 F-150 SCrew. I found a video where somebody found out it was the lower steering linkage and replace that.
View 7 RepliesI've recently been having a metallic creaking/rattle go on when idle or moving at slow speeds. I took it in during my 20k service and they said there was something with a cable and the heat shield... the service manager had also said something about the catlytic converter - but when I re-checked the service slip - nothing. This was originally in March.
The noise came back again recently so I had a different dealer check it out when I finally had the fuel tank recall done. They confirmed the noise and checked the heat shield (I had told them about the original complaint), but said there wasn't much that can be done - they made sure all the bolts were tight, but the noise was coming from the heat shield "flexing."
Most of the time it's fine and the noise went away for several months. It's subtle again, but if it becomes constant - it seems like I have a valid argument to have the heat shield replaced - seems defective.
I got a heat shield that just will not stop causing me grief. When I installed the headers and pipes I had a heat shield that was too close to the passenger side pipes. I bent it down some to clear the pipe and got rid of a nasty metallic sound I had on the throttle and making left hand turns. Well that little sound returned last week and I crawled under and looked and sure enough the heat shield was touching again.
Who knows why maybe a bit a spring sag. So yesterday I bent it down a little more. Today I start getting a nasty clunk on dips and especially when on a bump why turning. I crawl under there too look and find the same heat shield now has a huge gouge on the under side of it where the leaf spring near the rear bushing is smacking it. I'm sure Ford put it there for a good reason so hate to remove it.

2007 Ford Fx4 with 6 inch suspension lift. Just rebuilt front suspension. I Had bad upper ball joints and one of the hubs was bad. Also had a bad tie rod end on one side. The tires began to wear excessively on the inside and quickly degraded.
I figured since I was in there, I would just change everything. I replaced upper control arms, lower ball joints, stabilizer bar links, strut assemblies, and inner and outer tie rods on both sides. Obviously everything is much better. But...
On test driving and running short errands near the house, it seems like I can still sense a slight thumping/clunking or bounce from the right side at slow speeds at times. It is hard to describe because there isn't really a sound associated with it. It is not constant; it feels a bit like a ball joint just starting to go. I cannot identify it with any of the new parts, they all check out and nuts are tight, etc.
I have not gotten an alignment yet. Getting new tires and alignment Saturday. Tires are in pretty bad shape. But, alignment isn't too badly off and at slow speeds around the neighborhood its more of a bouncing after a road seam or when accelerating from a stop, etc.
when I was doing the work, one of the half shafts had more play than the other. It was easier to move out of the way to install the shocks and lower ball joints. I could easily bend it over past the stabilizer bar link and use the link to hold it out of the way. Is this normal? I have never owned a vehicle with IFS and CVs before. Could the bouncing/clunking be caused by a worn CV joint, even in 2wd?
My wife informed me about a noise coming from the chassis of her truck.
2007 Explorer XLT 4x4, 4.0 OHV, AT, 89,000 miles on the odometer.
We took the truck to dinner last night so I could investigate the problem. This occurs while only making left hand turns at slow speed.
There is a definite clunk sound AND feel. It actually sounds and feels like we are driving over a loose manhole cover, and IT DOES feel like metal to metal contact on the driverʻs sids of the truck.
My truck has grinding noises when i am making turns from a stop or at slow speeds. Also my 4x4 dash light keeps flashing several times both when I am sitting still and when driving. Neither my 4x4 auto or 4x4 high work but the low will work. Trying to pinpoint where I should look to fix them. I did replace the 4x4 control mod as an attempt to fix this.
View 1 RepliesI have an 08' 4x4 with the 5.4. When i back out of a parking spot for example the rear end "Clunks" when i but it in drive and give it gas to move. Also does the same when your driving fwd, put it in reverse and try to back up. I had a 98' 4x4 ranger that had the same noise under same circumstances and it was recalled and repaired.
View 12 RepliesJust purchased a brand new 2012 GTI Autobahn. I can't notice the AFS headlights swivel left to right at slow speeds but at start up seems to work when I turn on the headlights. Is this normal? I had the dealer check it and they said it works fine. They tested it through their laptop and it works but I can't seem to notice the swivel when I steer the wheel.
View 11 RepliesI have a 2012 gti with 29k miles. Now I changed to coil overs for a shot amount of time however I shortly went back to stock for comfort. For the past few thousand miles I have been getting this creaking sound when turning left parked or slow speeds. I thought it might be strut mounts but its only left and isn't a clunking. I have three videos of the sounds so you can see what I'm talking about. I have heard of the infamous cv boot problem but if you look at the last video you can see the Cv boot looks in good shape..

2007 camry le with 85k miles, there is a bad vibration in the front end, the steering wheel rocks, and when you turn right or left at slow speeds there is one knock, not a clicking, just one knock, also noticed the front driver side wheel has heavy wear on the outside corner of the tire, cv joint, bearings...

I noticed that when turning at slow speeds (like taking turns in a parking lot) I hear a klunk coming from the area of the left front wheel, and I think I feel it through the steering wheel. Yesterday I was going around a hairpin turn at a shopping mall and heard two clunks. Driving straight it doesn't happen.

View 7 RepliesSo... Took my car into a tire shop (tire pros) to get a screw pulled out of my front left tire... And after they finish the job - the guy comes up to me and says "your front brakes don't have much life left." I said, "I know I'm planning to change them in the next couple of weeks"...
He then said, "well I think your sensor just went off, when I pulled the car around.." I said "okay", got in the car and drove off - no brake light what so ever.
Anyways, A few hours later when pulling my car around the corner on the way home - I noticed that I am all of the sudden getting a random scraping sound from the front-right rotor anytime I turn the well all the way to the left at slow speeds...
I'm not too worried about it - just want to make sure these guys aren't trying to sabotage my car! The only thing that kills me, is that I didn't have the sound before and no all of the sudden I do? I'm assuming they somehow slightly moved the pad, causing it to somehow squeal - I'm just not exactly sure what they did...
This has going on for a few months now off and on. Whenever drive my F hard I notice this metallic click when i go to shift hard into second. The metallic click seems to be coming from the front of the car. I also get it if I'm around 3600rpm in and stomp on the pedal in first or second. It also happens when I shift into reverse. What it could be??
It also happens when i floor it and let off and do not change gears mainly in first and second. Sometimes i get a double click also.
At first I thought something could have gotten trapped in the engine bay and it only accelerated to a high enough speed to cause an audible noise but seeing as it been 3 or 4 months I don't think its the problem. It does not seem to effect spend and it does not make the click all the time.
2008 F-350 ... Getting a click in the steering wheel. Slow speeds in parking lots. Even with the truck off you can manually move the wheel and notice it has play. Maybe 1/16" - 1/8" of play
Read a few old posts saying there was an TSB on it TSB 05-15-1 ... Couple of the posts say they replaced the steering column. Wanted some input before I pull this apart. It's more annoying than anything ..
First the specs: 2008 w/38K, not sure which package but nothing fancy. This morning got in the car and started off and hear a metallic rubbing noise coming from the left rear of the car. Sounded like it came from around the wheel area. Temp was coolish around 36 degrees. The noise only happened for the first few minutes and only when going real slow, like 5 or 10 mph, and only when I was turning right.
Sound was like the the sound you get when a brake pad is worn way down and scrubbing on a rotor or drum. Also, the sound would speed up as I sped up until a certain speed then would go away. I actually stopped and restarted to be sure I could make it happen again. Once the car warmed up I couldn't reproduce the noise. Drove the car later in the afternoon with temps in the high 40s and no noise. Also, I never use the E brake so can't imagine that would have any impact
Purchased this car new. 2008 GLS w/ V6 2.7L engine. Wife's car, so I rarely drive it. She's complained for a month about an intermittent issue with the jar "jerking", usually during slow speeds.
I felt it for the first time myself. Was halfway through a pretty tight curve at around 20 MPH, starting to slowly accelerate when I felt a definitive lurch. might have been momentary loss of acceleration, or transmission. Not sure which. No CEL thrown.
I did see another thread mentioning a 2007 with a similar issue, but that person had codes thrown that pointed to a Throttle position sensor and a need to reflash a transmission. Think I'm seeing the same situation, or would this be different ? Absent any CEL, I'm sure the dealer will not be able to find it....
