Ford F-150 (2004-2008) :: Groaning Noise From The Front When Reach About 20 MPH

Dec 22, 2015

My 2006 f-150 with 71,000 miles has been making a groaning noise in the front when I reach about 20mph and it will intermittently stop for a few seconds and then start again. And when I turn left it completely stops. I have had it to my Ford dealership three times and they replaced my steering shaft and brakes and checked for anything rubbing and have not fixed it. I'm worrying about this every time I take a trip.

Ford F-150 (2009-2014) :: Groaning Like Humming Noise From Front Axle

My front axle is making a groaning like humming noise when the truck is cold and first starting to drive it. It does it when speeds are at 30 mph and under and goes away when putting it in 4WD. It sounds like the hubs but I'm not sure. The dealer hasn't been able to duplicate it because they haven't kept it overnight. I'm just wondering if this happen to the truck, was it fixed and what was the issue. Like I said, I think it may be a vacuum issue to the hubs, but not sure.

Ford F-150 - 1997-2003 :: 2001 4x4 - Humming Type Groaning Noise Coming From Up Front

Truck has always been a little noise while in 4x4 weather it was an issue that had already started or if that's how it is. This is my first 4x4 truck.

Ford F-150 (2004-2008) :: Roaring Noise Coming From Right Front While Turning - Front Wheel Bearings?

I gotta a roaring noise coming from my right front while turning. Planning on replacing just the wheel bearings tomorrow & not the whole hub assembly(2008 2wd). Is there a thread that lays out the steps and other parts I may need? I've seen alot different stories on the net on how to do it. Everthing from I can press new bearings to I have to do 4x4 hub conversion. Seems to be some confusion.

Passat (B5) :: Groaning Noise Coming From Front End Of 2000 VW

What is causing the noise coming from the front end of my 2000 VW Passat B5 1.8T (73000 miles). When I'm going slowly and turn the wheel all the way to the left, I get a loud, low pitched groaning/moaning sound coming from the drivers side of the front end of the car. This occurs especially when turning at low speeds, such as entering or exiting a parking space, and it also seems like it happens a lot when I'm backing out of a parking space (although it may just be that I notice it more then). It also seems worse when the car has been sitting still for a while. I do not hear such a noise when I am going faster (like turning left). I also don't believe I've ever heard a "knocking" sound in conjunction with this problem.

Could you describe the differences between control arms, tie-rod ends, and maybe explain how the sounds might vary between these two problems? What else could it be?

How could I diagnose this myself? What should I look for? I took it in to my local dealership and they said that they could not reproduce the noise. This is total BS, because it makes the noises ALL THE TIME! They refilled my power steering fluid, but this made absolutely no difference.

Phaeton :: Groaning Noise From Front Suspension When Driving Out Of Garage

My V8 had extensive suspension work done this week. All the front suspension bushings were replaced including the sway bar links. In addition, the air suspension- all four corners were replaced and the tie rods were also replaced.

The reason all the bushings were replaced was suspension noise and the fact that the car would wear the front tires unevenly even after new tires and alignment. The assumption was that the worn out bushings at 64k miles where the reason for the uneven wear of the front tires.

After all this work, I received the car yesterday and the car has more suspension noises than it had before all the work was done.....

When I drive over a speed bump, at slow speeds, I can hear loud squeak noises. Even driving the car out of my garage this morning, I could hear the groaning noises from the front suspension.

I will be taking the car back to the dealer after the holidays so they can check it out. Are these noises normal due to the new bushings settling or something..

Toyota - Corolla :: Groaning And Creaking Noise Coming From Right Front Wheel Well

I have a 1991 Toyota Corolla Wagon (150,000 miles) with noise coming from right front wheel well. My car is making groaning and creaking noises like the hinges of an old wooden door. CV joints serviced <5000 miles and the boots are clean and intact. There is no clicking noises during a turn Left or Right. Bouncing the right front corner does not replicate the sounds, tho' there is some slight squeaking noise not heard from the shocks/struts in the other corners. The sound is NOT heard in the morning going to work, but is very noticeable driving home at 5pm. I notice the sound going downhill at 35 mph, but goes away with light braking, Going over railroad tracks does not affect the noises. I'm thinking this could be worn bushings, strut mounts or who knows what?

Passat (B5) :: Front Brake Noise - Groaning / Vibration / Creaking Right At The Very End Of Stop

I recently replaced the brakes on my '99 Passat with all new rotors and pads. I used Mintex pads in front, as recommended by Adirondack Auto Brokers, and after a couple thousand miles, they are all broken in. The car stops fine and the pedal feels good, but there is always a groaning/vibration/creaking right at the very end of the stop. Nothing unsafe or a problem, but just annoying. It is only when the car comes to a complete stop at the last 6 inches of motion. If I let the brake pedal up slowly from a stop, it will also do it. What can I do to get rid of this, or is it from the pads and I just have to live with it until they are replaced?

Lexus IS 2014+ :: Clunky / Groaning Noise Coming From Front End When Turn Steering Wheel

You can hear the clunky, groaning noise around 8 and 11 seconds when I turn the steering wheel, making a tight u-turn in an alley way.

What can it be..? I hope it has something to do with my tires since I'm getting new ones today. The current ones are pretty bald.

Quick video clip of noise...

Sonata I45 (YF - 2011+) :: Loud Groaning / Creaking Noise Coming From Front Suspension Area

2011 GLS 2.4L auto, 40K, out of warranty

There is a loud groaning/creaking noise coming from the front suspension area. At low speeds, this noise dominates all other noises and is directly related to hitting the gas or pressing the brakes, which produces a forward or backward force on the front suspension and chassis. I can sometimes hear it briefly just by pushing against the parked car.

My hope is that I can just tighten up some bolts and make this go away, but other posts suggest it may be struts, stabilizer links or other non-obvious sources.

Mercedes-benz - M-class :: 2012 - Front End Groaning Noise When Coming To A Stop And When Pulling Away

OK, so this is a 2012 ML350 Blue-tech with around 31,000 miles on it. Lately when it is warm (either by driving for 30 minutes or more, or by outside temperature of 80 plus), it has been making the strangest front end groaning noise when coming to a stop and when pulling away. It sounds like the front end suspension is "groaning". It doesn't have to be a hard stop, gentle will do just fine. The car comes to a halt, the front end dips slightly - "groooaaan" (perhaps more on the rebound than the initial dip). You start up again, the front end unloads, and "groan".

Very disconcerting on a car as smart as this. Tom and Ray know this car - this is the one with the "smart radio" (switches channels at voice command…) The dealer is stumped. They have the car for the third time now and even though both a mechanic and the shop foreman have been shown the problem (taken for a test drive ), they have been unable to come up with either a diagnosis or a fix. They replaced the front sway bar links once to no avail.

Prius (2004-09) :: Groaning Noise When Going Around Corners

120K (64 by me & 56 by prior owner during first 6 1/2 yrs) I was having a groaning noise when going around corners especially when headed down hill and hitting the brakes at the same time. I also had a rattle or popping going over bumps. I couldn't isolate the noise and nothing felt loose in the front end when I jacked it up. The dealer said the lower control arm bushings and ball joints needed to be replaced for $1545. I asked about front struts and was told that the control arm bushing and ball joints had to be replaced first before the struts could be examined.

I replaced the control arm assemblies (had to lower front cross member while supporting engine w/large jack and removing lower engine dog bone), ball joints, stabilizer bars and stabilizer bushings myself. Ball joints required removing axles and steering knuckle assembly to remove metal CV dust shield on back side of steering knuckle. (will post procedure later). Had lined up and the noise changed (groaning on corners left and rattle became pronounced on all bumps like the front end was about to fall out). By the way no cracks or excessive wear on any of the rubber components as I have always seen on the Subaru and other cars I had.

Ford F-150 (2004-2008) :: 2005 - Thumping Noise In Front

My 2005 F150 is making a thumping noise in the front end. It increases as speed increases and is more pronounced when turning wheel left and almost goes away when turning to the right. Sometimes at higher speeds I can feel it in the gas pedal. Seems to be coming more from the driver side but I could be wrong On that.

Ford F-150 (2004-2008) :: Ticking Noise From Front While Driving

I have a 2005 F 150 5.4L and i just changed the front rotors, pads, and calipers. Because the passengers side caliper had locked and the rims was really hot and i knew it was the caliper so i changed both the driver and passenger side calipers and hoses. A month before this i had changed the pad and rotors but after the caliper locked it put grooves in the rotor and damaged the pad but the pads and rotors i bought have a lifetime warranty so i got a brand new set and changed them while replacing the calipers.

After installing everything i bleed the front brakes. But did not bleed the rear and i am wondering since i did not do the rear even though i did not touch them it is causing the front to make a ticking sound the whole time i am driving and it is starting to annoy me even though it has only been 4 days since i did the front brake job. I put Duralast rotors and Duralast Gold Cmax Premium Ceramics Pads. What is causing this ticking.

Ford F-150 (2004-2008) :: Popping Noise Coming From Front End

Alright, so about a month ago I was driving when I heard a terrible noise sounded like a pop can stuck between a bike tire coming from the front end. I figured this was the dreaded noise most folks hear when the 4wd system isn't getting enough vacuum.

It did this for about two days, even after replacing the IWE solenoid, then it just stopped and I haven't heard it since. Me being on the cautious side, I'm a bit worried. I haven't jacked the truck up, but I did (brace yourself) lay under it while my buddy drove slowly over, there was no unusual movement.

Question is, if I had to replace anything, what exactly would it be and how much am I looking at? My warranty will be up in about a month or so and Ford has been less than spectacular with repairs thus far so I'd like to go ahead and fix it myself

Prius (2004-09) :: Low Groaning Noise That Comes From Inside The Cabin

I'm trying to figure out what is wrong with my Prius. A few weeks ago, there was a big rainstorm in California, and I accidentally backed into what I think was a storm drain under very deep water. I heard a big thunk, but there was no visible damage to the car. A few days later, I noticed a low groaning noise that comes from inside the cabin, somewhere around the center console/front passenger side. I usually only hear it when I am moving at low/moderate speeds and turning the wheel to the left, although occasionally if the road is bumpy I hear it with my wheels straight ahead. For a couple weeks, I thought the noise only happened when moving-- however, last Friday, I was sitting in the car, which was parked on a hill with the wheels curbed (steering wheel all the way to the left). I turned the car on, and immediately the car started groaning (even though the car was in park). Then, after about 30 seconds, the gas engine turned off (I think that's what happens when the car gets much quieter after idling for a bit) and the noise stopped. SO, it happened when the car was in park as well.

Ford F-150 (2004-2008) :: Grinding Noise From Front Passenger Side

2005 ford f150 Fx4 So last Friday I started hearing a grinding noise from the passenger side front of my truck. sounded like metal on metal. So I started rooting around and noticed that bottom ball joints were shot. so replaced bottom ball joints on both side. I aslo replaced wheel bearing hub assembly on both sides, still heard the grinding. So I noticed that both axles were slinging grease, so I replaced them on both sides.

Still heard the grinding noise. So then I removed everything from the passenger side and noticed that the locking hub actuator was grinding both axle and the wheel bearing hub. So I just got done replacing that on the passenger side, put it all back together, and still grinding noise ringtones free. Also replaced the 4wd solenoid that they said gets water in it, and I replaced the check valve. And I put new Rotors and breaks. What it could be?

Ford F-150 (2004-2008) :: Whirring Noise Coming From Front End While Driving

I recently installed a 2" aluminum HBS leveling kit on my F150. ('04 FX4 SCrew, 5.4, 61K miles). I was excited to finally improve the truck rather than fix something. The install was straightforward and I didnt have any issues (other than Cleveland, OH rust).

After installing the kit I noticed a whirring noise coming from the front end while driving, but I didnt think much of it and I got an alignment a couple of days later. Immediately after the alignment, the problem is still there. It sounds just like aggressive mud tires driving down the road, so I think it is coming from the tires.

The noise follows the speed of the truck (the pitch gets lower as you slow down) but you cant really start to hear it until you slow down below 45 mph. It is much more noticeable at lower speeds (probably because of the lower wind noise in the cab). I dont think it would be a CV joint/axle issue, but who knows. I am considering taking it back to have the alignment checked, but I figured I would check on here before I do.

I just bought this truck last fall, and it is one step away from being traded in because of the countless nuances this thing has (wet floors and consequently rust everywhere on the inside of the cab, rattling window trim, shaking bed, squeaky rear window, noisy phasors).
