Well heck, the PO of the truck I just bought has lost the spare key to the ignition, and the key that opens the tailgate and unlocks the spare tire. First question, is the key to the tailgate and spare tire the same key or are they different?
Second question, is there any simple way to have new keys cut for these things?
I have an 05 f-150 and I don't have the factory jack. So what can I use to slide into the crank so I can lower the spare tire?

View 3 RepliesI recently noticed that using my spare keys w/ my R disabled my vagcom tricks / convenience settings I had done. When going back to my original keys I use 99% of the time, these vagcom tricks become active again w/ no problem. I've gotten the following vagcom tweaks done to my '13 Golf R;
- convenience feature to open and close windows using key
- 4 convenience blinks (instead of 3) when switching lanes
- horn disabled when locking the car
here is my problem on a 02 passat. on the remote, the little siver hook that holds your spare keys broke off. i had a new spare remote that had never been programed. so what i did was to simply remove the blank key and replace it with the cut key. also i took out the computer chip (i guess that is what it is called) and put it in the new remote. so i have the same key with the same chip that has always worked only in a different fob. BUT when i start the car it will only run for a sec. or two then it will shut off and i will get 'imoblizer disabled' ???? everything else on the remote workes. this makes NO since to me at all and is driving me crazy.
View 3 Replies2003 Explorer Sport, 4X4, keyless entry. Bought the truck brand new but never had occasion to use the keys in the door and tailgate locks. Tried them this week and they did not work the locks. I first thought that the locks were frozen. Not the case. Stopped by the dealer and he suggested spraying WD40 in the locks. Didn't work. Got a new 'blank' cut by the dealer in case the key was worn, didn't work. What might be the issue? I was thinking that the wrong cylinders were put in the truck on the assembly line. I have a key fob remote and keyless entry but it would be nice if the key unlocked the doors in an emergency.
View 6 RepliesI had a flat today and put on the spare. Over about 15 mph I got the Slip Warning light and the system was limiting my speed. Is there a button or something to disable the system so I can drive at normal speeds? From other postings it seems not. Is there anything else I should be doing???

View 3 RepliesBroke one of the shackle brackets. Planning on pulling the bed and doing all four. I've searched and read as much as I can in a short period of time. I have a few questions about bed removal.
1. How hard is it to remove the factory plastic bed liner?
2. Do I need to remove the spare tire to get to any of the bed bolts.
One reason I decided to remove the bed is I can't get the spare out. I figure I'll be able to fix that as well once I have the bed off.
I have a 2004 F150 Fx4 and i just locked the tailgate for the first time and now i cannot unlock it. I turned it clockwise to lock it and I am trying to turn it counter clockwise to unlock it and it seems like its putting too much tension on the key.... Am I doing something wrong?

Any other location for the spare tire? Thinking the only option is to toss it in the bed. Any down side to exit the exhaust before the rear axle

View 5 RepliesSo I'm having a tailgate issue. When I open my tailgate, sometimes the internal spring wants to keep it up, rather then letting it open down. It also makes an odd popping noise during operation from time to time......I don't see or feel anything broke in it.
View 7 RepliesMy right rear tire picked up a screw this evening heading back toward Seattle from Chelan. I put the spare on and continued on my way. I noticed for the first few miles the traction control warning light was on. It went off and stayed off until I stopped for fuel and again it came on for a few miles. I'm suspecting this is due to a slight diameter difference between the 20" wheels with the Michelins and the 18" spare. I really hope this didn't stress the differential (3.55 ELD). As I understand it, unless locked the ELD is open all the time..... I would assume Ford wouldn't equip the truck with an incompatibly sized spare......

View 3 RepliesI have a 2006 F-15 XLT with a bed cover, tailgate cover and separate tailgate cap. The cap has cheap plastic clips that went into the tailgate but have broken off...this is a problem as I have a tonneau cover that is a tight fit. Every time I close the tailgate with the cover on, I have to jam the cap down and hope it is far enough by the time the tailgate closes.
2 Questions:
1) Where can I buy a reasonable replacement?
2) Is there a good solution to just repair? I tried JB Weld, but that did not seem to hold (surprisingly)
In the right direction for my 2010 Prius? I lost one of my Smart Keys and I am looking at all my options. I "Searched" and info was scattered all over, and it is very specific to certain locations.
View 7 RepliesMy father took the car to the grocery store and lost the keys. When we got the car from the dealer we only got one set of keys and proceeded to order a second set. Forgot to pick the other set and when I did the key did not worked. They (the dealer) swapped the 2 last digits from the VIN number so they had to reorder the keys. In the meantime how do I open the car. It is a 2003 Passat V6.
