I have a 2005 F150, 5.4L. What I have is a "muffled" sound (for the lack of better terms) from the engine when driving. Also it seems to be "starved" or lacking some power.
View 3 RepliesSome what sounds to be metal-on-metal squealing seems to be getting worse. It's coming from the tranny only when it's not torque-converter locked and varies with tranny speed, not necessarily rpms.
Slippage? Signs of some serious problems?
Truck has 90K on it. I don't tow. I changed the tranny fluid about 60K ago. I just checked the fluid on the dipstick tonight and it's still light pink and clear, but I have not dropped the pan to see what's inside yet. No codes and the truck drives perfectly well otherwise.
So I know the 2013 GS (or many GS in general) have had complaints of squeaks and rattles. My GS has a couple but are very minor and only occasional.
I do have one noise that seems unusual though. When I am driving and drive over moderate bumps in the road, I hear a muffled clunk or thunk type of noise only from the rear passenger area and never anywhere else.
My car is a stock CPO 2013 F sport and not lowered or anything. Stock rims and tires. The shock does not seem to be leaking.
The noise happens regardless of if I am in regular or sport+ modes. Was going to mention it to the dealer at my next oil change and door trim replacement appointment I need to make Ina couple months.
I am 98% sure my 17" chrome clad wheels are making a clicking or ticking sound as I drive. I took off the plastic center cap and the noise changed.. it's less than constant now.
View 3 RepliesI just replaced the cv joint, the wheel bearings, and the tie rod end on my passenger front side hoping this would fix the problem. It fixed some of the issues but while driving straight when I go over bumps there is a muffled knocking sound coming from that area and my steering becomes loose and jerky. I'm just learning how to work on my cars on my own.
View 4 RepliesDriving to work my trucks radio turned off.. My abs light came on.. A screeching sound from front hubs.. Then I stopped abs light went off hubs locked.. Air bag light came on.. I hit the power button on radio it displayed low battery.. All interior options were off. Outside lights dim .. When I got to work I shut it off and tried to restart... Acted like battery was dead.. It's a 3 week old battery. I also noticed , it seemed like I could not turn off my head lights.. Switch did not seem to make any difference with lights. After being off for a mon. The lights got a little brighter. Is it just the alternator? I got no low battery or dummy light. It did have a mildly sluggish start.
View 5 RepliesMy 2008 F-150 recently started making a funny noise from what seems like the front right wheel.
The weird thing is that it will only make the noise while accelerating. The second i take my foot off the it stops. Also, the sound stops if i put it into 4WD and does not happen at all in 4WD.
It has nothing to do with turning or breaking. It only makes the sound in 2WD while my foot is on the gas.
The sound is kind of weird. It sounds like something is loose, and it sounds similar to tin vibrating on metal.
At first i thought it may have been heat shielding rubbing on something, I checked under the truck and found nothing loose.
It's weird that it only happen in 2wd yet in the front end.
Someone had mentioned that it may have something to do with the fact that there is no torque on the front wheels in 2wd and when i put it into 4wd it put torque on it, whatever might be loose then becomes tight.
I was pulling our 14k fiver home after a weekend at the lake and I heard a muffled pop sound. About a minute prior I had checked the gauges and everything was normal. It honestly sounded like a chinabomb tire on the ttrailer had popped. Puled over and all tires were good so I popped the hood .....
Here's the bottom half. Is this possibly a warranty item? 2011 with 61k. And no mods. Plus a lot of oil on everything is that normal?
When I set the locks and alarm after driving with the AC on, the horn sounds muffled. If the AC was not on, it sounds normal. I am curious, should I expect this to come back? Is it a sign of a problem I need to concern myself with?
I suspect it's the battery, and just had it replaced today because the dealer said it was functional, but holding less of a charge than it should.
I just bought a used 2013 accent gls with 22k miles.
While the sound from the front is sort of OK, the sound from both of the rear door speakers is very low and muffled.
I have to set the fader control almost all the way to the back to hear them, and then the sound is very weak all around with no treble.
There is also almost no bass whatsoever from any of the speakers. I know what to expect from a lower end factory system and have heard other hyundais that sound pretty good. I have tried setting the bass control all the way up (and down) and tried changing the "P-bass" settings but nothing works.
Is this normal for this car? I have not listened to any other accent stereos. I really like everything else about this car besides the stereo so far.
2008 F150 4.2l Popping noise cannot detect source. When the truck gets warm it makes popping noise while driving or parked with engine shut off. Noise is getting louder. This truck has about 50,000 miles on it."
View 1 RepliesIm trying to chase down an engine miss fire on a 2007 with the 5.4L. It only seems to miss under no-load conditions, such as at idle and on a downgrade while driving. Acceleration and under a load it runs fine. New Champion plugs were installed at 135,000 miles. The truck now has 150,000 miles and has only been miss firing for the last 1,000 miles or so. I pulled the connector off of the coils one at a time to try and figure out which cylinder/s were missing. I thought I found the problem ones and replaced two of the coils, but it ended up not fixing the issue. Ive tried spraying carb cleaner at and around the intake to check for leaks, but found none. I have a scanner, but the check engine light is not on, so its not much luck.

View 10 RepliesI have a 2008 F150 with a 4.6 litre in it. Last year I dropped a couple of plugs and had a factory new, second generation 4.6 installed. The motor only has about 25,000 on it while the rest of the truck has about 160,000. I was driving back roads in western Mass and went over a small, about four inches deep, pothole. I was driving about 35 miles per hour.
I didn't get any associated master warning lights. The RPM started rolling back from about 1700 to 0, and when they got to 0, the engine shut off. There was no previous sign of a fuel pump going bad, or of a bad fuel filter, which is also less than a year old. The truck has plenty of electrical power and turns over strong but won't start.
I checked the #9 fuse as identified in the manual but couldn't find an actual relay for the fuel pump, so I'm assuming it just has the 20 amp fuse which was good by the way. I'm thinking that the fuel pump would have given a few warning signs, but maybe not.
I did check the emergency fuel shutoff switch to make sure that it had not activated when I hit the pot hole and unless I'm resetting it incorrectly, it doesn't seem to have been set off.
I have a 2005 STX with the 4.6L, 4WD, AT.
The engine has started to make a loud whining sound recently. I replaced the belt and tensioner since it was original and had 93,000 miles on it. The sound is still there.
The sound increases with rpm but doesn't change when you turn the steering wheel.
The engine starts and runs smoothly with plenty of power.
My 2005 STX 4.6 fuel pump crashed a couple of months ago. A couple of days after having it replaced I started having hard/rough starting problems accompanied by a 0300 and 0301 code. I reset the codes several times and they only come back during the 3rd or 4th hard start, never while driving. The hard starts occur after the engine is shut off for more than a few minutes after driving. I have replaced the plugs, #1 COP, remaining COP boots, Cam Pos Sensor, Fuel pump drive module and had and FI. Also had the fuel pump replaced again on warranty thinking maybe a bad check valve. Again...it worked perfectly for a day and now I'm back to square one. Haven't gotten any codes YET but its only been a day. Bad injector? EGR?
View 1 RepliesYesterday driving to work felt the engine missing, on the way home got a CEL pulled the code when I got home it was P0302, so I started with the easy and put a new coil pack, same issue, so I prayed and pulled the plug (it didn't break). Put a new plug and a second new coil pack (just to be sure, and yes I keep extras dang 5.4). cleared codes and started it this time got P0202 Ford - Injector Circuit Malfunction Cylinder 2, so I checked Ohms on #2 and it was 12.6, #1, 3, 5,6 all have 13 Ohms, didn't check #4, 7, or 8 because my big hands and the probes on my multi meter. Checked the wires on all of them and have 12 volts with key on, not running. I read another check to put blk in pin and red on pos batt terminal, and that it was supposed to go 12 to 0 off and on with engine running, All of mine went up to 14 volts and stayed no switching. Is there something I am missing to check before replacing the injector on #2?
View 6 RepliesI have a 86 K5 Blazer. Six years ago put a new gm 350 a rebuilt trans. and had all the work performed for inspection. Truck was run once or twice over the years. This winter I got it on the road to push snow. I ran the blazer once for about 12 hours pushing snow, on the way home I thought I had a problem with the trans. Took the k5 out today 2/20 to pick up my kid at a neighbors house. Started out fine but at the large steep hill my k5 lost power. I pulled over to check the blazer over. It was idling fine but when I would rev the engine it was muffled. I drove up the rest of the hill (barely)and picked up my kid. On the way back I was quickly throttling the gas pedal which seemed to give little bursts of power. I am thinking that I have an airflow problem.
View 11 RepliesMy 2008 Prius has started making a noticeable soft whirring sound whenever the engine is running. You can hear it both inside and outside of the car. The sound lasts exactly 30 seconds, then pauses for 4 seconds, than repeats . When the car is turned off, the sound can be heard for about another 10 minutes before it shuts off entirely.
View 2 RepliesI have A 2001 Santa Fe. The check engine light came on about 3 weeks ago and the car was still running fine up until the last few days it felt a little sluggish. Today I got a little muffled backfire noise. It was like a putting noise if I pushed on the gas to hard to speed up. The car has 95,000 miles on it.The car starts up with no problems and doesn't stall. Its A 6 cylinder All wheel drive vehicle.
View 10 RepliesI bought a used 2008 Rx350 with 75,000 miles 2wd ... The car runs great, gets the advertised fuel mileage etc.. The engine seems (is)noisy to me at idle. Can't hear it while driving. sounds like poorly adjusted valves.
