I bought a used 2008 Rx350 with 75,000 miles 2wd ... The car runs great, gets the advertised fuel mileage etc.. The engine seems (is)noisy to me at idle. Can't hear it while driving. sounds like poorly adjusted valves.
View 14 RepliesI've been trying to get my dealer to take a look at my noisy engine. The loud clicking sound is getting really annoying. When at idle sitting at a red light, my car would click like my old - 1987 Toyota beater..
I brought it in 2 times to have the dealer check it out, but they would said its "normal" and that the high pressure injectors and fuel pump are loud on our 3GS.
So i was wondering to try using heat wrap to try to reduce the noise from the fuel pump. It seems like the fuel pump is making the most noise.
What is the location of the idle air control valve by telling me where its at or a picture location?

View 14 RepliesMy 2005 Chevy Malibu (97,000 miles) started sounding like the motor was going to die tonight as I was idling. When I started to drive again, the motor sounded kind of noisy and the RPM's went up and down (from 1 to 2 and back down again), and the engine light came on. The temperature gauge showed that the car was running a little hotter than usual, but not much. The gas was about half full, I have had no problems with the gas gauge. I change my oil regularly. No message came on my message panel. I can turn off the engine and start it up again just fine, but the engine still sounds bad and the light still comes on.
View 3 Replies99 Passat 1.8 Turbo 4 cyl. Noticing a ticking in the valve train. Louder @ cold start. Can't hear it on acceleration, just when sitting. Sometimes it won't do it at all. But most recently it's constant. The other morning I cranked on and the CEL came on.
Took it to mechanic, he let it set for while to cool down, restarted and the CEL was off (hasn't come back on), he could hear the ticking, thought maybe the timing belt needs to be replaced or adjusted, the 02 sensor or possibly week lifters?????
July 06' VW did a "desludge" (for free!) and replace all parts having to do w/ oil and filled w/ synthetic. So that's not the problem. My mechanic isn't familiar with VW valve trains, belts, lifters, heads etc. He's done a great job on everything else, but acts like he's really scared to open this can of worms.
It is a 2002 or 2003 Chevy truck with a diesel engine. He was going down the road the other day under normal driving conditions when the motor made a racket and then white smoke started coming out of the back like a chimney. The truck will still crank and run (and smoke), and now there is a knocking or tapping noise that is coming from the engine. The engine is running kind of rough, and has the tapping or knocking sound, but it will calm down for 1/2 a second at which time the rough idle and noise stop, but quickly return. There is no engine code showing, so my code reader is useless. I once had a Chevy 350 with a spun main bearing that sounds similar, but the motor didn't idle rough or smoke. I don't know enough about diesel engines. I was told there was a possibility of a bad injector pump or bad injector itself. Is there any way of testing this yourself, or does it require a shop trip?
View 8 RepliesDad has a 2010 F150 CC SB. it has the 5.4 in it. Ever since day one it has had a noticeable tick in the valve train. But it can only be heard inside the truck when there is no other noise... Open the hood and its not there. Ford dealer told dad that it was normal, and that the firewalls are just not thick enough where it gets really close to the engine and that the sound is transferred to the firewall.
NEXT question... Not always, but sometimes when the truck is started cold, it will puff white smoke.... Every time dad has had it at the dealer they say they cannot ever see it. Curious if any of your trucks have this issue, before I take it back there with again, asking to go start every truck on the parking lot listening for the tick and the smoke...
Just bought a 2005 4.6Lused. There is a "air escaping" kind of noise during acceleration. It sounds just like the AC system does sometimes after you turn off an engine. I thought originally that it by be AC related, but doesn't appear to be. At steady speed, it goes away, but comes on again with the slightest bit more gas pedal. In cruise control, it cycles on and off when the cruise accelerates up a hill,, etc. The sound is on the driver's side apparently close to dash corner.
View 9 RepliesFor several months now, my 2007 Prius has been making an intermittent buzzing sound from the engine bay. When I first heard it, I thought I had hit the little lines they cut into the road to let you know you've drifted over the center line - the sound is like that, a low-pitched buzzing noise. Today, the check engine light came on as it was making that noise. I put a code reader on the car and got P1121, a bad coolant flow control valve. Wondering if the sound and the faulty control valve are just coincidental or if the valve might make that noise when it fails? And if not the valve, what the sound might be?

When accelerating and turning from a stop (like making a left hand turn), the rear end kind of stutters and then hops/bumps and goes smooth. One wheel turning faster than the other? Researching this site it sounds like the bad clutch packs TSB.
Question: How long can I drive with this problem before I mess something else up seriously on the truck?
2015 Jeep Cherokee 2.4 engine. Engine is very noisy at idle. Not noticeable when driving. It has variable valve timing or valve lift. I also has a big black hat on the engine, I wonder if that is supposed to quiet the engine some, if so it isn't working.
View 19 RepliesI just bought a 2013 Elantra GLS last weekend. When the engine is running at idle and I'm standing outside of the car, the engine seems to be noisy. Maybe to the point where there is a small exhaust leak somewhere. I don't notice the noise when I'm driving the car - interior noise seems normal. Is it normal for the 1.8L engine to be a bit noisy at idle? The car just turned 100 miles.
View 5 RepliesI have been getting a buzzing sound under my hood, usually in cold weather that lasts a few seconds, happens after I go about 1-2 miles from my house, did online research and it might be my IAC valve getting internally dirty.
Could replace it for $50.00, some You Tube videos show people cleaning theirs on other brands of cars, can the Ford IAC valve be cleaned up with a little carb cleaner and cotton swabs?
I'm not sure if this qualifies for a "cold start" but my 1.8T sounds imperfect when I start it for the first time of the day. It'll rev around 1200 RPM, instead of the normal 800RPM idle if I start it after it had recently been turned off for a short period.
It sounds almost like my old car that had an exhaust leak, but not as obnoxious. When it settles back down to 800RPM it really purrs and sounds great. Is this normal?
2003 Wolfsburg Jetta 1.8T, not sure if I wrote that in my profile yet. 41k miles and recently serviced for 40k milage. Has sounded this way before and after the service.
I have this problem about 3 weeks ago,when i start the engine i have sound dont know how to describe it but something like tik tik mostly come from crank pully it is not so loud and disappear after few minutes from 5 to 10 min . and if i turn off the engine and start it again does not appear only if kept turned off several hours.

View 14 RepliesSo, I have heard a little bit about the oil pump bolt issue. However, I am still confused. Was this issue fixed for the 2008 model and what are the symptoms? I changed out my valve cover last night due to a PCV valve failure. The car is running great except there is a slight rattling sound coming from the drivers side of the engine at idle. I know I left nothing around the car that could have gotten in the motor when the valve cover was off. This issue was not happening before changing the valve cover. What could be causing this noise, or is it typical for this motor?
View 3 RepliesI have a 2001 1.8t tip wagon(75k) that that is starting to worry me. It makes a tapping sound (coming from back of valve cover) AFTER it is warmed up at idle. When the RPMs go over 1,000, the sound goes away. Is this the cam chain adjuster or tensioner??? Also, when the engine first starts up it makes a similar noise , only louder, for the first couple of seconds.

View 14 Replies07 f150with 5.4. At start up in morning, sounds as if oil starved to top end for few seconds. Only does on initial start up in the mornings. Use the recommended oil and ford oil filter. Had truck for 1.5 years now. Never noticed this until lately. Oil level fine.????? What is going on??
