2004 F150 FX4 97K
When accelerating and turning from a stop (like making a left hand turn), the rear end kind of stutters and then hops/bumps and goes smooth. One wheel turning faster than the other? Researching this site it sounds like the bad clutch packs TSB.
Question: How long can I drive with this problem before I mess something else up seriously on the truck?
So I own a Dodge Caliber 2007 and it has about 170K miles. This car has been through a lot of trips from IN to PA and many other long trips. A few months ago it started to sound very odd. It's a four cylinder and it sounds like it is only running on three. I don't know too much about cars but the problems that it's facing is that sound for one, it is stuttering in a kind of way, like it's about to die. Also when I accelerate and make a sharp right turn it will start to die and will die on most occasions. This is very dangerous considering it has power steering and I can't maneuver when it does die. Also, I'm not sure if this is related at all, but the front left turn signal and the back right turn signal does not work. It isn't the lights as I have changed them 2 other times, I have been told it might be the computer module but I'm not sure.

I will list the symptoms the best I can.-goes through about a quart of oil every 300 miles, looks to mostly come out the exhaust-seems to really blow smoke when the vtec activates-as the weather has gotten colder, it has been idling erratically until it warms up.-check engine light went on today-when accelerating from stop engine stutters briefly (this started when light came on)-warm idle speed now seems to be over 1000 rpm....

View 1 RepliesI've been living with a mild "clunk" or "bump" in the drive train when I would first begin to accelerate from a full complete stop. It would only happen after a complete stop. It almost felt like it could be normal, but it seemed to be getting worse over time.
At first I thought it was my transmission...but after some internet searching I found some threads talking about the slip yoke on the drive shaft being the cause. In that the slip yoke needs to be pulled apart and re-lubed.
Anyway, I thought I'd post and let eveyone know that after pulling the slip yoke and re-lubing with grease my issue is solved! The "clunk" is totally gone. 100% Smooth now. If has this issue I'd highly recommend re-lubing the slip yoke.

On my 2004 F-150 SuperCrew, all I needed to do was remove the drive shaft at the rear differential (4 bolts, use 12mm 12 point socket or wrench). Then remove the FRONT clamp on the slip yoke boot. Then slide out the rear 1/2 of the drive shaft. Be sure to mark the drive shaft orientation with the rear differential flange and the slip yoke before you remove the drive shaft to ensure you put it back together correctly.
Re-lube the slip yoke, then slide it back together and reinstall the four bolts at the rear differential. Torque spec is 76 ft-lbs. I used Valvoline FORD-LINCOLN-MERCURY moly grease that I purchased at my local AutoZone. You'll also need to install a new band clamp around the rubber slip yoke boot. I got mine from AutoZone.

Bought an 05 FX4 SuperCab in May - been in shop twice for a "clunking" sound when accelerating from a dead stop. Dealer says it's "operating as intended" and that no damage was being if I continue to drive. I thought it was a rear problem with the limited slip. Dealer says it's the tranny and that Ford is looking into the problem (apparently quite a few are coming back). She runs smooth and shifts fine once she gets going. Just starting from a complete stop feels painfully wrong.

I had my tranny rebuilt under warranty at about 70K and I'm now at 167K. When it was rebuilt (by Ford) it still had a slip feel when I picked it up. Rode the mechanic around the yard and he felt it. Dead stop and take off while turning. Like from a stop sign. He took it back and found a sensor/module/something that was the culprit. Seems I remember they found it with a computer? Is there a computer/reader that will diagnose a tranny?
This spring I installed a Ford OEM limited slip unit in my 05 F 150. Recently I notice a brief, intermittent shudder when turning right or left from a stop sign. Does not do it all the time. I don't notice this any other time. The Valvoline synthetic oil I used said the Ford additive was not needed. Is this the "nature of the beast", should I be concerned, should I put the additive in anyway?
View 1 RepliesJust bought a 2005 4.6Lused. There is a "air escaping" kind of noise during acceleration. It sounds just like the AC system does sometimes after you turn off an engine. I thought originally that it by be AC related, but doesn't appear to be. At steady speed, it goes away, but comes on again with the slightest bit more gas pedal. In cruise control, it cycles on and off when the cruise accelerates up a hill,, etc. The sound is on the driver's side apparently close to dash corner.
View 9 RepliesMy 2005 ford freestyle (fwd) has a creaking noise when accelerating from stop and turning left but not when turning right. It's been there for a while. I had a problem where front left wheel felt loose. Replaced struts no change. Replaced left front wheel ball joint and fixed that awful feeling, but it still creaks.
View 2 RepliesI have a 2012 Ford Focus with automatic transmission with about 22k miles on it. No check engine lights on. When accelerating from standstill it always stutters a little as if it's not really 'catching on' properly (just in "first gear" it seems). It doesn't do it once you're beyond 5 - 10 mph and it doesn't do it either when for instance stepping on the gas pedal while driving. Only from standstill. It also doesn't seem to go away when the car has been driven for a little while. It's always there. What could be causing this?

The issue: When accelerating from a stop or a slow rolling start, turning right or left, I get a shimmy (vibration) that seems to be coming from under my feet. Not a violent shimmy, but enough to make me certain that something is loose or out of alignment in the drivetrain. IT IS NOT THE REAR END as friends have constantly told me. Rear end was serviced and cluth packs lubricated with no change in issue.
What I've done: Changed transfer case fluid, new front driveshaft, new u joints and carrier bearing on rear driveshaft. There has been no improvement after these repairs, if anything the vibration is a little worse and easier to induce.
I've been chasing this problem for over a year. Going to be pulling a Toy Hauler out west this falls and really need to repair this for my piece of mind..
I bought a used 2008 Rx350 with 75,000 miles 2wd ... The car runs great, gets the advertised fuel mileage etc.. The engine seems (is)noisy to me at idle. Can't hear it while driving. sounds like poorly adjusted valves.
View 14 RepliesI have a 1999 Town and Country van, 3.8L engine. It has 220K miles on it. Lately, when I am accelerating, it seems to do fine until I get to 40-55 mph. In that range, it stutters a bit. After that it runs fine, even at higher speeds. I usually don't get this stuttering at the lower speeds as I am, for example, accelerating to get on a highway. A mechanic friend of mine says that it may be a vac leak. Does this sound right, or are there other possibilities.

It's embarrassing. I have taken it to several different shops and nobody seems to be able to figure it out. What it could be?

My F250 6.4, 3.73 Crew Cab Short bed vibrates when accelerating from a stop with my 5th wheel on. The 5th wheel weighs 12K. It is a medium to high frequency vibration that is felt throughout the entire truck. It continues through the shift into 2nd (TorqueShift Tranny). The harder you accelerate the more you feel it.
It does not occur if truck is unloaded and you accelerate at full throttle. Is this normal or should I get it looked at?
I own a 2003 Explorer, 4.0 v6, w/93k. When turning either direction from a stop I get a shudder from the rear end. Ford has issue tsb # 17717 but I cannot fix the fix, only a description of the problem. Where can I find a fix I wondered?

View 2 RepliesMy 2008 Honda Fit has been developing a problem for the last 6 months or so and each time I've taken it to the dealership they say there's nothing wrong. It started with the car hesitating when accelerating from a stop. This only happened if the car had been sitting for a while and it only really happened if you hit a full stop before the car had a chance to warm up, even then, it probably only happened maybe 1 out of every 10 stops.
Recently, the car has started struggling when coming to a full stop (again usually the first stop after the car has been sitting) and the car will stall out unless you give it some gas. This seems to be worse if it is cold outside (which it is now permanently cold outside) and when the car is on an incline (front higher than the back).
I took it to the dealership (because it is still under warranty) and they said the engine isn't showing any codes and the fuel pressure is fine (of course that didn't stop them from trying to sell me a new battery). However, I am concerned that this is only going to get worse and its not really acceptable for it to be stalling out regardless.
