I've got an 07 f-150 and the paint is starting to chip below the gas cap, there isn't really any rust yet. Whats the best way to fix this? I was thinking about taping it off and sanding a bit and then spraying on bedliner spray.
View 1 RepliesIt appears it is mostly surface rust and am looking for something relatively simple to fix it. I would prefer to use something in aerosol cans since it is small amount of total area, maybe Rustoleum products?
I will attempt to remove as much of the rust as possible with circular wire brush on drill but feel there will still be little crevices that I won't be able to fully clean.
I'm also interested in knowing what I should use to harden the surface to prevent the excessive chipping of paint in this area.
My 2003 Impala (red) has a few spots on it that could use a tad touch up of paint, nothing big just a spot or two, what is the best route to get those area's touched up. I know they sell auto spray paint in a number of places, none of my spots are bigger then by thumb or such and don't want them to get bigger. There is a bit of rust on a couple of the spots, so just wondered what are good options.

My 05 Caravan is in excellent shape with only 40k miles and noticed rust and paint bubbles only on the lower front side of the rear wheel well (drivers side). I live in Pa and wash the car after snow storms. Of course the car is out of rust warranty and the dealer said they can repair it but they do not know what causes it. I have seen this exact problem on other caravans and I have been told it is were the two pieces of metal are joined together, the wheel well seam, which causes the problem. We sealed the seam last fall with silicon when it was just paint bubbles and now it has gotten worse. My thinking is either we need to go back and look at the seam again as we only sealed the section that looked open or there is a leak from somewhere else in the van - the gas cap area or the area on the frame when the door is open is suspect to me. Basically I am asking if there is anywhere else I should look for this leak besides the wheel well seam?
View 7 RepliesI have a 2004 with the 4.6l. The high pressure hose is leaking from rust. From other posts I have read, it looks like I should rent a puller and remove the pulley first, and then I'll have access to where the hose connects to the pump.
Question: The leak occurred while driving home from vacation today. Went we stopped for gas, we noticed a shutter in the steering. I added about a 1/2 quart to the reservoir - there was still some fluid but foamy. I made it home, and I when I checked again the reservoir was empty.
Should I go ahead and replace the pump while I am at it? I wondering it if could have gotten damaged from low fluid. The truck has 190k so it's not like the pump owes me anything. Will it make any of the repair easier to toss out the pump too?
I happened to look at the top of my 04 Excursion yesterday and found the paint cracking and lifting off the roof. So the first thing I did was to come look here and see if it was a common issue. I searched and found a couple threads about this issue from 2 and 4 years ago.
Apparently, the paint was applied too thick and that is why it cracks, lifts and breaks off. Some said they went to ford and ford has offered some type of discount on the repair.
But, that was years ago and I'm not sure if I think that ford is liable to fix this on an 8 year old vehicle.

My car has fairly deep scratches on the trunk, roof, and hood. It's a red, 2008 Chevy Impala. I'd take pictures---but it's too painful. There are numerous thin scratches on each of these surfaces. I'm going to take it to a body shop to get an estimate, but I know I am probably not going to like what I hear. No, my insurance does not cover this (I only have liability). So...Am I going to need a completely new paint job?
View 19 RepliesThe paint is starting to get cracks on the hood and fenders of my 2008 Honda civic its dark blue with 43,700 miles the dealer said the warranty for paint is 36 months or 36,000 miles. They said its the clear coat and the black and dark blue paint has been doing this.He is checking with Honda to see if they will paint the hood and fenders for me.I feel that in time the rest of the car will get these cracks to and they should repaint the entire car, since they admitted that it is a problem with the clear coat.The car is always garaged and waxed often.What do you think
View 5 RepliesHad clear bra installed on my car. They had to redo the mirrors and the hood pieces because they didnt install the self healing film the first time. After the tech installed the second pieces I noticed an annoying whistling noise from the drivers mirror. I taped it off and even wedged a piece of thin plastic in the gap between the base of the mirror and the car to see if it would stop.
Anyway did a little research and found to my dismay that guys with the 4GS and 3IS are having the same issue when installing paint protection film on the drivers mirrors. As far as they know the remedy is to remove the film. I am assuming it has to do with the positioning or thickness of the film because it did not make any noise with the basic film installed and where it was installed.
I just went down to the garage and peeled it off, took it for a ride, and BOOM .....silence . Crazy that a thin film on the mirror could cause wind noise .
I have a 2004 ford taurus with 50,000 miles that makes a chirping noise from motor that comes and goes with no set pattern. I put on a new belt and idler pulley. Noise sounds like a bird chirping. What this could be?

View 6 RepliesI am considering purchasing a 2011 LX 570 from CarMax and they say this vehicle, an Illinois born and raised truck, has 'extremely minor rust' on the underneath. They say that any vehicle must meet CarMax standards, and they wouldn't sell the truck if it had rusting that was gonna be a problem.
The CarMax folks seem to be pretty straight shooters in my experience so far. My salesperson also said that the level of rust this vehicle had would be present on any 4+ year old truck, regardless of where it was from...
I have a 2008 Mariner that has just started making a fairly loud chirping noise from the from. It is not always there, sometimes when the car starts it doesn't always start for a minute or two.
View 3 Replies2008 lexus es350 -- chirping noise from serpentine belt area. Chirping starts after a bit of driving. Got belt replaced, mechanic says it is water pump (as he says he saw marking and could be a prior leak), but I don't want to do this trial and error.
I got belt replaced by the mechanic who said wold fix the problem but did not. Should I replace water pump as it is expense on es350 and only to have chirping noise not fixed as it could be something else like alignment or idler pulley etc.
The top of my cars paint is chipping off. Is there a way to stop the process from getting worse?
View 3 RepliesI just noticed 2 rust spots on the back quarter panel in front of the wheel well on my Corolla. Then I looked on the other side, and found rust in the exact same spot. It looks like the rust is near some bolts that are holding on (what looks like) a small plastic mud flap (I'm not really sure if that is the correct technical name). Anyway, is that normal to have rust in the same spot on both sides, or is it defective? This is the only car I've ever purchased new so I was planning on keeping it, like, FOREVER. I think I've taken pretty good care of it so I plan to have it fixed. Just wondering if I should bring it to Toyota.

Truck has 83k miles. Is it time to change the timing belt, water pump, etc? Has never been done.
Aircon issues. Freon leaks out. Leak seems to be behind firewall, but mechanics have not been able to locate the leak.
Hate the wheels on the truck now that the paint is blistering.
My wife and I noticed that our passenger side wheels, both of them, are flaking paint... We've got an early VIN '04 Touareg. We're fixing to take it in for 10K maintenance. We are not avid off-roaders, however we HAVE gone off-roading twice with it and I'm sure hoping that isn't why the paint is flaking.

View 5 RepliesI recently purchased a 2004 Jeep wrangler Sahara. In retrospect, I probably should have inspected it more closely. The underside, including the sides of the engine block (below the heads, etc.) have a lot of rust. With little effort I can flake off pieces as thick as a quarter for example. How concerned I should be and what I need to do???
