My 2000 F 250 Super Duty 7.3L Diesel chimes 5 times, 5 times in a row when the engine is turned on and then every 30 minutes thereafter. What is causing this? It sounds like the seat belt alarm but they are all connected. Ehat is causing the continual chiming?
View 2 RepliesThe chime goes 6 times on engine start up. It is repeated every 30 seconds 10 times, i.e. the last series start at 4 1/2 min., a total of 60 clanks. After this it does not sound again if you don't turn the engine off. The seat belt can be removed, the door may be opened - no chime. But if you stop and restart the engine, it starts the process all over again.
View 1 RepliesI have a F250 Diesel with 113,000 miles on it. It has been a great truck but lately it has lousy pick-up. I step on the gas and it goes no where! Sometimes the engine revs other times it doesn't respond at all.
View 1 RepliesThe customer brought in her 130,000 mile 2000 Mercury Grand Marquis complaining that the starter would click several times as she turned the key again and again, before it would make the the engine crank like crazy. I saw that the positive battery cable was badly corroded, and replaced the aftermarket end with a new aftermarket end. Everything was nice and clean. No difference. I tested the battery for load voltage with my good old Sun VAT-60. It tested good, sufficient voltage after 15 seconds under a 100 amp load. I removed the fuel pump relay so that the car would not stay running for long, and then would not start when the starter did engage. It drew 120 amps while cranking. That's within spec for a fully warm engine.
I think what she has is a bad solenoid atop the starter, or perhaps a bad spot on the commutator that moves slightly with each click until the brushes are in another position. Then it will turn OK.
I think a new starter is needed. Am I on the right track? I don't want to crawl under it unless I have to, and she doesn't have money for me to make a mistake.
Ok my dome light flashes and I get a chime first three times then one and it repeats. No other error messages or codes. What causes this?
View 6 RepliesMy 2007 f250 power stroke 6.0. My A/C comp went out. After replacing it I was told that my fan clutch is bad and will cause the new ac to go out. My engine is not running hot. The fan still spins for a while after engine is turned off.
1) Could it have not been re installed correctly?
2) How do I know my Fan Clutch is bad?
3) How do I replace it myself?
Bought a Passat 2.0 Komfort and we're on its' first road trip. Between 65 - 80 mph a chime goes off three times at seemingly random intervals whether I'm accelerating or decelerating in that zone. The speed warning is turned off and the winter tire function is off. There are no warning lights or messages. It's got my salesperson and a VW service dept baffled.

View 2 RepliesI had a dead battery on my '97 power stroke Ford F250. I realize now that when I was jumping it (successfully) I clipped the (black) ground cable to the alternator itself! Doy. The alternator is definitely dead now as I lose power after a few minutes of running the engine. My question is: did I blow a simple fuse or do I need to replace the whole alternator? How likely is it that I did further damage? I ask because I'm contemplating replacing the alternator myself. But maybe it would be wiser to get a tow to the mechanic.
View 4 RepliesTook '05, (package 5) to dealer for 70k maintenance yesterday for trip tomorrow. Got new tires, this, that, the other. On the way home the headlight leveler warning comes on, goes off, comes on, goes off.
Back to the dealer, he says it's just "it's time". I am driving 500 miles tomorrow for vacation. He says the headlights are properly aligned and it's probably just the sensor and I can have it fixed when I return because this won't be quick.
I don't know if I can tolerate that darn chime going off every 10 minutes for 1000 miles. Is there any way to turn off the volume of the chime?
So I recently bought a 2006 f150 XLT with a 5.4 and of course the previous owner failed to tell me that it has an annoying beeping problem. It chimes 25 times total about every 20 minutes of the truck running, I've read the owners manual and found that it could possibly have to do with the passenger air bag.

The whole trip over here weren't any problems. Yesterday I went to the store, started fine. When I walked out of the store, the truck turned over 3 times and just stopped. After that all I got was a click at the relay on the pass fender. I have good batteries. I have verified current through the fender relay down to the starter but I cant get it to turn over. Another thing to note is the solenoid got so hot it burned me.
This, I have never run into. I replaced it today with a new starter with no luck. Could I have a bad, "new" starter? What would cause the solenoid to generate so much heat just sitting there? The longer it stayed connected, the hotter it got.
What that is for?

The power windows do not work up or down either side, no door chime or pdl either.i think this is related to the gem module cause I have run a 12 v to the motor itself in the door and it goes up and down.checked all fuses and switched relays.I don't even hear any clicking relays.I have spliced into the orang/white wire at the 2pin connector to the motor and have hooked it to a purple wire on the back of the window switch and now have pdl,and door chime,and hear clicking under dash but still no windows.What am I missing is there another wire to splice into?
View 1 RepliesI drive a 1996 F-150, 188,000+ miles. Sometimes when you turn the key in the ignition, nothing happens. Absolutely nothing. But if you wait about 2 minutes, the truck starts O.K. This has occurred a couple of times when I was starting out and killed the motor by not giving it enough gas. But it's also occurred when the truck has been sitting for a number of hours or even overnight. It never fails to start after about a 2 minute wait. What's going on here? I've had the truck in the garage, but they couldn't replicate the problem and didn't do anything.

That issue has gone away buy now I start it and run for 20 minutes, turn it off and try to start it again and all it does is turn over. If I let is sit for about 8hrs it will start again. What is going on?
View 1 RepliesMy ABS light is on and the 4X4 light flashes about 8 times every few minutes. I thought this would be from a cracked tone ring on teh drive axle, I put the truck up on my floor jack and I did find a cracked tome ring on passenger side. Whoever has the truck used silicone to put the broken tone ring back on. In any event I replaced the drive axle with a new OEM with new tone ring. Drives like a charm but ABS and 4X4 light still on and flashing. It is AWd Is there a tone ring on the drive shaft ?
View 6 RepliesOk so about a month ago I went to the store got into my car turned on my car after a couple seconds it beeped about 3 times then turned off i turned it back on and it worked fine ... and now yesterday i was driving the car everything was fine till i was driving on the freeway and it beeped 3 times again and looked like it was going to turn off but didn't .... and about a half hour later driving doing about 45 mph the car beeps and turned off on me ... So I pulled over and just turned the car on and it worked fine again ...

I started it up to pull out of the garage and noticed the maint Req'd light blinking, it blinked about five times and turned off. Does it mean anything? if so, what? Just rolled over 100K. We bought it in late january and all the PM was done just wondering if they reset the oil reminder or what.
