I have a 99 f-350 , which i bought recently and either the calibers are froze up in the rear or the cable looks too tight.. Is there any adjustment.... Every place i looked it seems to be none..... on my old 1988. Icould adjust it where the 2 rear cables joined the 1.... Am I missing something or cut the 1 main cable and add a turn buckle....
View 14 RepliesThe problem is I haven't seen one for a recent (2011+) SD. I don't see anything that resembles a rear drum. They look like 2 huge regular disc brakes.
I live on a hill. My old man taught me to put the trans in neutral, autos and manuals, put the ebrake on and make sure it holds the vehicle, then put the trans into park or 1st gear. This way the weight of the vehicle doesn't rest on the transmission.
How do I adjust the Ebrake? It's ALMOST holding the truck, just needs a minor tweak. I don't see the dust cover the write ups described at all. The one that reveals the Star Wheel. Are they different on these years then prior SD's?
1999 F-250 ... How does one replace the emergency brake cable? The cable in the '99 F-250 I recently bought broke.
The cable was sticking when I got the truck. I like to use the emergency brake every time I park. The previous owner(s) didn't use the emergency brake and the cable had frozen up.
I tried using it every time I parked. I could tell it was frozen, but I was hoping it would loosen up. It held a little bit when I used it; but soon it just broke.
How do I adjust the parking brake on my 08 F250? It's not holding when my truck is parked on a hill.

View 6 RepliesWas checking fuses for why my 3rd brake light and pedal adjustment switch does not work. Was also looking for a fuse to tie into so that a light in the cab floorboard will stay on when the headlights or marker lights are on... After trying several spots to no avail (finally putting it into the bright headlight fuse). I got the light to work.... But now my ABS light stays on!!! Also 3rd brake still not working...
View 1 RepliesI recently purchased an '08 F-350 4x4 Lariet Supercab 6.4l and was told by the 3rd party inspection that it needs rear brake pads (2mm left). Are the caliper pistons retractable without having the pistons seize down the road? HOw about the fronts? See below.
I ask as on my '06 F-250 XLT 4x2 5.4l the rear calipers seized without even doing a pad change and the fronts seized about 100 miles after a pad change. Come to find out it is a common problem with the '06 and the calipers either have to be replaced or rebuilt when changing pads. Now I've been "told" to expect the same with the '08.
Any good info on front brake replacement parts to get better braking out of these beasts? My pads are now needing replacement but I would like to get better performance than that of factory parts....

View 3 RepliesAt low speeds, I notice a squeel sound in all four wheels. Ford tells me that it is due to the type of metallic pads they use and is essentially brake dust noise that warrants no repair.
Any after market pads that are good quality for towing heavy loads, yet aren't metallic in composition? For instance, are porcelin pads a good choice.
my dads front drivers brake caliper was dragging so last Thursday he had the local Ford dealer install a new one WHY i don't know since i always work on everything of ours plus my friends Fords. Today he said he pushed the brake and it went to the floor then he let up and pushed it again and they worked?? I haven't looked into it yet but the dealer cant look until Friday morning so my dad asked me to do it today after work..... what should i check for? leaking brake line, maybe air in the system still?

View 1 RepliesMy 2002 f350 diesel recently started acting up, the first sign was when my park brake light came on and the chime came on. I mucked around with a few things but still wont go away, while I was doing this a buddy noticed i had no brake lights at all and under further inspection no signals either, not even the clicking noise you usually hear also the cruise control has stopped working as well as the little screen mounted to the roof near the rear view mirror. I am fairly clueless with electrics (I don't even own a multi meter) but i do want to figure this out, i have noticed that fuse 20 was burnt and after replacing it it pops pretty much right when i push my foot on the breaks or signal.
View 10 RepliesWhen on my 2-post lift my front brake lines on my '11 4x4 are pulled TIGHT, like stupid tight. It's also dumb that the soft line points UP 'cause it gets tugged down to a brutally tight 180.
I've got the front lift pads under the control arms, too, but near the very rear of the control arms so the axle isn't even dropped out all the way I don't think.
There's a bracket down near the bottom of the coil springs that could just be sectioned/lengthened, which I think would alleviate my issue. I'll be working on this soon.
What manufacturer builds a vehicle that yanks on the brake lines under full suspension droop? Shouldn't this be on an engineer's final checklist before the vehicle is released? Oh wait, they gave that task to Team TTB and Engineering Group TFI Or maybe they gave it to the same Audi team that designed the Allroad with airbags that can be damaged if you don't "lock" them out before lifting the vehicle......
I'm working on an '05 F350 King Ranch dually, and I'm pretty sure the pb cable is stretched. I recently replaced the shoes in the pb assembly and adjusted the tension while I was in there, but it still barely holds. My next culprit sounds like a stretched cable, and I have a complete set for a new one, but I'm having a hell of a time getting the old one out. The link that holds the front and intermediate cables together won't pry open with any tool I have, and I've broken two drill bits trying to drill out the nub holding the front cable in.
View 5 RepliesI have a 2008 F350 Super Duty Regular cab long bed 4X4 I have no cargo light and no third Brake light, checked and even replaced bulbs. Still have no lights up top, what to check or how to fix this? Can I tie the cargo light into the dome light inside without screwing something up? I can't understand why they stopped hooking the cargo light to the dome light but this one seems to be wired separate. Would love to get these lights working again. When I bough t the truck the cargo light didn't work and I thought maybe the bulbs were burnt out, I never checked the brake light I tried to get the cargo light working and that's when I found out the brake light didn't work either.

I have power to the multifunction switch when I use a jumper wire to bypass the switch I can make the lights come on depending on which slot I put it in. I replaced the multifunction switch twice just to see if I got a new bad one the first time, but to no avail. I cant run my truck a night without the lights.

View 1 RepliesF350 Super Duty sometimes the front driver side brake sticks and will pull to the left while driving and pull hard to the right while braking. It has a slight front end vibration when the symptoms are present. The wheel will be boiling hot to the touch and the smell of brakes burning is obvious.
After the truck sits, it will be good with no incident for weeks.
With the wheel still hot and on jackstand, the front wheel seems to turn freely until the brakes are applied, and seems to spin free again as brakes are released.
It seems to happen when I have a "hard braking" incident going forward until I park the truck and let it sit. If i consciously brake soft, the brakes seem to be fine.
I have read some of the posts and this is different in that it is intermittent.
I have replaced the brake hose as I thought it could be the "check-valve" symptom. No luck.
I have checked the sliders and re-lubed and they slide freely.
The caliper is relatively new and the fluid in the system is fresh as i recently changed the rear brake line and completely flushed and bled all four corners.
Do i just change the caliper, or, is there a way to find out if one of the pistons is intermittently binding? I would hate to invest in a new caliper if that is not the issue.
2004 ford f 350 super duty, 6.0 Liters international diesel, 4door, 4x4, long bed, dual rear wheels. Over 200,000 mileage. I have no power to the trucks brake lights and no power to the tow plugs trailer brake lights, which is the center left and the center right tow plug blade style contacts, while using a 12 volt test light! All fuses are showing good and I replaced the brake switch at the brake pedal, and I also replaced the towing plug with the short wire and connector at rear of truck which is under the rear bumper and the frame mounted tow hitch bar
- Are there any relays that control the truck brake lights and the trailer brake lights ?
- If yes where are the brake relays exactly?
- Have I missed or not done something else to correct the problem?
