I have a 95 f150 5.0 with a 4r70w Trans. What to check now no overdrive Trans shifts and drives great but no od the od off light on shifter is lit up and just never goes into overdrive solenoids have been replaced and new shift lever and button where do I go from here is not throwing any codes...
View 7 RepliesI have the p0734 and p0732 codes. Thing is it shifts hard into second and wont go into overdrive when first started. After about ten minutes of drive time you shut it off and turn it back on and the thing shifts perfectly. No hard shifts and overdrive works then check engine light turns off. The pulse generators have been replaced when i purchased car. It is an 02 accent with 90,000 miles.

I looked down and saw the overdrive off light flashing. Got to work, turned the car off then started back up and the light was off. Any thoughts?
View 14 RepliesMy tranny started acting up so I took it to a reputable transmission shop for repair.
Symptoms : Shifts very hard 1st to 2nd. Light flashes on overdrive button.
The following is what has been done at the transmission shop.
Computer failed to read codes. Sent out to rebuild. After rebuild, codes read FIPL needs replace. Done and gives good readout. Trans control replaced, speed sensor replaced, checked all associated wiring and plugs as well as ground. Dropped pan, changed fluid and filter. No parts in pan. Tech says pan and fluid looked good. Replaced coil pack.
After all that, this is what is happening..Clear all codes. FIPL reading good. No flashing light on shifter. It feels like it is shifting from 1st to 3rd, then back to 2nd. Still shifting hard and indicator light starts blinking again. He is going to read computer again. At this point, he suspects a mechanical problem in transmission but is reluctant to remove and tear down.
My 95 ford Aerostar 3.0 automatic trans wont shift into overdrive, here's what happened. a small hose on the side of the transmission came off, this must have popped off when I was stepping on the gas with the brake on in drive and reverse. It took 2 months to find the hose off, during those 2 months I had to shift the van manually, you had to get high RPMS before it would shift.
About 2 weeks before I found the problem I notice the van would not kick into overdrive. When I finally found the issue and reconnected the hose the trans shifted fine but still would not kick into overdrive though. Is there another vacuum hose that goes to the main vacuum housing? or an adjustment on the linkage area? This has been like this for about 6 months now and I can go on a highway..
2007 escape 4wd 3.0. I've notice some random hard shifts for the past month and today the trans has trouble shifting out of 1st. If I get the rpms between 3,000-4,000 and ease off the accelerator pedal it shifts into 2nd without drama. It will not shift at lower rpms with the same easing off the pedal. The trans light is steadily blinking.

I've checked the fuses and all are good. I've even replaced the speed sensor but still have the same problems and don't know were to look next. Where or what to check?
View 1 RepliesI have 99 f350 v10 4x4 and trans shifts great under light rpms but 2-3 shifts very hard. At wide open from about 35 mph it will shift down and take off like a bullet but wont shift until I lift my foot and then it bangs hard from 2-3. All other gears are smooth. I did some searching and have found some threads saying it could be an accumulator spring that is broken? Truck has 115,000 miles on it. love the truck but want to fix this before it does some damage.
View 1 RepliesMy 1995 1.8L Corolla wagon (230K original) automatic transmission will shift to neutral while I am driving. It will do this at any speed. It lasts for one to five seconds. Otherwise it runs and shifts perfectly . It does it on level or graded roads, maybe one to five times per week. I no longer feel confident to drive it. At first I would be driving along and the speedometer would go to zero. This would last for one to three miles. Then, after this, the speedometer would go to zero and the overdrive light would go on/off, and the transmission would shift back and forth. I changed the VSS but it did not fix the problem. Now it does the same again, only the transmission shifts to neutral.(The lever stays in Drive) This lasts for one to five seconds. Moving the shift lever during this time has no effect.
View 5 RepliesI had a small chirp noise in my Van when it shifts into 4th gear. Took it into United transmissions for a total rebuild. First rebuild had the same noise so they did it again and it came back with the same noise.at that point they said they don't know what it is. I can find no one in this state that will rebuild the Tranny.
View 5 RepliesLost overdrive. Shifts when o/d disengaged. Dropped pan, valve body and found that the servo retaining ring is still intact but the small clip for the center shafts of the servo was broken. Found it loose on the valve body along with a flat piece of metal shaped like half of a hexagon. 3 sided shape, approximately 1 inch each side. Like one 6 inch piece that's folded together. Don't know where that came from. Afraid to put back together without knowing where that came from. Was founded right next to the broken clip. 2007 f150 4.6 4x2 ....
View 13 RepliesI have 1995 Toyota Avalon w/173K miles. It’s in good shape mechanically and cosmetically. My 16 yr old daughter is the primary driver. I have extensive service records and have replaced the springs/struts, o2 sensors, and a few other bits. My question is related to hard shifts and a check engine light. During the summer the trans shifts normally. In the fall & winter, when temps dip below 50 degrees, the trans shifts harshly and the check engine light blinks indicating a trans solenoid is defective. The trans fluid has been flushed twice, most recently in Oct 2008 at the Toyota dealership. My theory is the techs filled the trans with a heavier weight fluid than is necessary and that is triggering the codes.

View 4 Replies2001 Elantra shifts to overdrive only after running 3000 rpm for a mile. Then at other times it shifts to overdrive ok. fluid is ok Sometimes putting the shifter into neutral with the car rolling and putting it back into drive will get it to upshift.

I was also told by a technician in a trans shop that the Trans-X additive for hypoid oil in a posi-trac was ok to use even though the back of the tube says "Not safe for automatic transmissions". Do this is accurate or if the guy was just blowing smoke?
View 5 RepliesI have a 1995 Explorer 4x4, and starting last month i have been having an intermittent problem with bang shifting, the only time the bang shifting occurs is when the overdrive off light flashes, the only time the O/D Off light flashes is after driving the interstate or driving around town on hot days, after a few days or a few weeks the light turns off and its shift normal and no bang shifting, but i have a new problem now, the O/D Light off started flashing last night after driving the interstate and I noticed on my way home that it wont shift, it hit 4000rpm and i had to tap the break and accelerate again to make it shift, I went to AAMCO and they wont give me the codes the only thing they said is they want to do a soft parts rebuild, and something about hte gear ratio being off, i dont have the money to spend for a new trans or have one rebuilt, i would like to fix this myself.
View 14 RepliesI have a 1999 F250 4-wheel drive with a 6-speed tranny. The tranny is several old but has only around 100k on a rebuild. Three times recently it has stuck in 6th gear (overdrive) and I had to get really rough with the stick to get to come out. Afterwards the stick felt "thick" for a while and eventually everything seems to go back to normal. Not for sure but it may have started after pulling a heavy load, around 16k, which is not unusual for the truck. Other than the times it stuck and shortly after, the tranny seems perfect.
View 5 RepliesMy wife's car, '06 explorer 4.0, experienced trans. slipping issues last year. The trans was replaced under extended warranty. Now it's doing the same thing. Warranty expired. The dealer claims they can't find a problem. It does it when you slow down at a light and then accelerate without stopping, or going around a corner and accelerating. It shifts but requires more rpm to move. Almost like I am dragging a piano or something.
View 2 RepliesI just bought an older 1995 Ranger XLT 4.0 I was told that the truck is stuck in overdrive. The overdrive light is not working and the button does not respond. It shifts smooth but run away with it's self. It is not shifting a lot going up hill and curves.
I got a diagnostic and it did not show codes. I was told the trani has had an oil change and filter with no metal parts in the oil. Since the overdrive switch is know for a short in the steering column maybe when they looked at it they did not know what they were doing.
I am driving it only once or so a week. But don't want to hurt it. A friend did the first work and had it diagnostic done yesterday.
