I've got a 2005 Jetta GLI (mk4) and i noticed that my car will try and boost at times when its not supposed to. i noticed it happens most when i initially start up my car and i start driving when its not fully heated up (i always warm it up for at least 5 mins no matter what the weather is like)
View 7 RepliesI have no check engine light on my 20th. it spikes at 20psi and holds at 15 16 ish.. What's the little whistle when I boost over 12..??? It sometimes goes into limp mode but turning it on and off fixes that..

What this could be? I'm tired of it sounding like a subaru. It has a 3 inch tb exhaust and f4t frankenturbo setup with 415cc software and injectors. View 10 RepliesI'm aware that this is a common issue for the MK4 and I'm looking for some closure on what the exact issue could be. Whenever I drive my car on a bumpier back road I feel like the car is sputtering and surging whenever I hit a bump and it's very noticeable with the exhaust on my car. Once on the highway the car lost all power for about 3 seconds and then it started working again. I think it might be the coil packs or the fuel pump but I don't want to buy things the car doesn't need. Where to start?
View 1 RepliesSo after replacing my shift forks in my 20th, installing a new clutchmasters fx100 clutch kit with a LWFW I've become a victim of the typical clutch disengagement issue.
In a nut shell car doesn't go into gear while the car is running. System is fully bled with no leaks and a brand new slave installed supplied by CM.
My understanding is the early FML code o2ms in the 20ths can not make use of the NLS shim kit and a stainless line is not a 100% fix.
Who's solved their disengagement issues and how?
I have a 2003 20th anniversary edition GTI. Yesterday I noticed my car started shaking when I was driving on the highway. The only thing I can think of that I did was run into a snow bank during the snowstorm. What is causing my car to shake?
View 2 Repliesso, I'm driving home the other day in stop and go 102 degree traffic, and my A/C cuts out. I thought maybe my compressor took a dump, because I've noticed a little noise from that side of the engine. Then I look down, and notice my water temp is like 240-250ish. As soon as traffic starts up again, temp goes down to normal, and A/C comes back.
I have a 2 mile commute to work, so it hasn't happened since then.
no DTC's, no rad fan. A/C fan works. Put 12V to fan - no worky. fuse block on top of battery not melted.
Obviously I need a fan, but I was wondering about something else. since this started, my car gets to normal operating temp (NOT), in literally under 2-3 minutes. I know its Texas and a billion million degrees, but I think that's too fast.
Green top coolant temp sensor, and metal impeller water pump already installed.
I have an 03 20th ani gti golf... It has been stuttering when idling and driving... Almost sounds like a subaru... I have changed the plugs/coilpacks but still does the same thing... My check engine light comes on and blinks.. Got the codes ran and it came up... Cylinder 2 misfire and catalytic convertor threshold....

I feel like a year ago it was smoother action, and I barely had to give it gas to get started ( could start with clutch action mostly).

View 12 RepliesI am having this failure in my engine that is making me crazy while I am driving. Yesterday i took my car to a shop to see what was it. my MAF was gone ( I replaced it ) and the failure still going on. The mechanic connected his computer in my car and we went for a ride. HE told me cylinder 1 misfire.
This is what i did.
-change spark-plugs position (failure still)
-change coilpack (failure still)
What can i do ?
-clean injectors
-check for any carbon in valves
Was driving when I heard a pop n my boost dropped. Normally run 17 psi but my boost gauge is now only reading it's pushing 4psi. There is no smoke coming out my exhaust or anything, when I had it scanned it read it was a bad pressure sensor in the inter cooler so I replaced the sensor cleared the code took it for a drive n the same thing happened...check engine light came back on n still running like crap.

The issue: when I'm driving (not every time) and letting the car coast to a stop after going about 30+mph lightly applying breaks, the car seems to die for a split second and come back to life. My radio turns off(restarts) headlights dim, heater fans die out. Rpms dip very low; but the car never totally dies or stalls.
I had my plugs changed recently thinking that was the the issue, but didn't work. Also my car is apr chipped. Another symptom is it idles pretty rough and lastly. Occasionally the car makes a funny high tuned sound that matches the rpm (ie revs up higher noise) ....
About a week ago I noticed my RPMs suddenly dropped while I was driving. a couple days later after driving the highway for about 45 mins, averaging probably 80-90mph, I got into town and I stopped for a car to park. Then it just stalled, I didn't notice a kick back, it's like the car just shut itself off. It took probably 10 attempts to start again. About a mile down the road it did the same thing pulling up to a stop light. I sat through 2 light cycles before it started again.
Got to my destination was there for maybe an hour, when I left the car started fine. Drove for about another hour on back roads when the Rpms started dropping again and I would need to dump the clutch to get them to go back up. Then my screen started beeping telling me to STOP with and oil pressure alert. I ended up driving the car home dumping the clutch whenever the rpms would drop. Once I got home I had my boyfriend take it out and nothing... Of course... A couple days have gone by and it hasnt been as bad but it still drops every now and then, and today after driving home maybe 5 miles it stalled again...
I've plugged it in and my speed sensor is throwing codes, but I don't think that's the entire problem. Whenever my car acts up the EPC light comes on but no check engine light so far. 2005 Jetta GLI 1.8t.....

When driving enthusiastically, harder, and sportingly, the car runs beautifully!
When driving normally, such as highway cruise or lower speeds with a consistent throttle input, the power will cut-out. Then the max boost pressure will be approximately 3 psi until the key is cycled. Then normal chipped operation resumes. Since it is difficult to drive hard all the time, this circumstance comes up often.
There is a new N75 recently installed. The situation does NOT set off the check engine light.
I have noticed according to the boost gauge readings, it tends to happen between 10 inHg to 0 psi. Above or below that, don't recall it happening.
When driving in 3rd gear I can hear this quiet yet distinct high pitch whistling sound. It almost sounds kind of digital. You can hear it inthe other gears but just not as well and I know it's not the turbo or anything. What it may be and if it's normal?
View 10 RepliesI got a quick question about limp mode. I know this has prolly been covered a few times but I couldn't find anything too similar. Well, to start out my car cannot boost past 3lbs. If i turn the car off and take the terminals off the battery and let it reset for a while, it goes back to normal for a while. After a few times driving it, limp mode comes back on.
The first time this happened, the check engine light came on also. But once I reset the battery it turned off and went back to normal. But it never stays away for good, limp mode always ends up coming back...
I am after a annoying dash noise that I get when driving over any rough surfaces. I have removed all centre console and glove box and everything else around that area and I still have the noise, its like the dash is loose some where else, I have looked around for a complete dash removal instruction thread, but can not find anything??
It looks like I will have to remove the whole dash but really could do with some instructions on how to do this as I don't want to break anything!
So while I was in gear i felt a thunk and suddenly the car had no driving power in any of the gears including reverse. Pulled over popped the hood and checked my linkage. Everything was still connected as far as i could tell. Had my buddy watch the linkage while i shifted through the gears, everything checked out normal. While in gear the car still rolls so obviously something internally isn't jivin. Haven't gotten under it yet, doubt that will tell me anything. 130k miles had her for less than a year haven't gotten around to picking up a bentleys yet. I'll grab one tomorrow since nothings open today.
View 5 RepliesMy car has been making a loud droning noise that sounds like I am driving a jeep with some mud tires on it, when I turn to the left it gets smoother and when I turn to the right it gets louder.
I assume it is the wheel bearings. Unfortunately I now live in an apartment with no garage and no tools so it is a pain to check. My question is, what do I need if it is in fact the rear wheel bearings? The whole assembly is easiest I assume?
