20th Anniversary sat for 2 months and battery was flat when I went to start it today. I jumped it and got it running. However, when I went to close the hatch it will not stay latched. The latch on the hatch is hitting the striker on the lip of the trunk, but it just won't stay shut. Is any part of the latching mechanism electronically or vacuum operated?
View 4 RepliesI noticed today that my hood is not actually latched in the fully closed position - Hood sits like it's closed, but I can simply lift it up to the popped position without pulling the hood release. Secondary latch is still fine so it stays closed, but I'm in a bind:
So first question -If I cannot fix it, is it safe to drive as is 3.5 hours back home?
Second question - is there a way to get it to latch even temporarily, keeping in mind that the only tools I have are standard screwdrivers and a pair of pliers?
Latch appears to be functioning fine and I can lock a screwdriver in it no problem. I read some threads implying the latch might need to be raised, but as far as I can tell it's already positioned all the way up.

The rear spoiler on my 2005 has always had a bit of "flex" to it and I've always been careful not to use it to open or close the hatch. Unfortunately, I can't be sure that others not do that as it really is the place someone would think to grab to close the hatch.
Anyway, the other day I noticed that the spoiler had picked up a nasty rattle whenever the hatch was closed. Looking from the outside in I saw that there appeared to be two plastic fasteners (one on each end) that held the spoiler in place. If I pressed down on one side the other side popped up and vice versa. I was able to get the spoiler back to where it originally was (loose but no real rattle).
The car has never been in an accident and the spoiler doesn't appear to be bent in anyway...it just seems as if the fasteners aren't holding it down as tightly as they should. Is this the norm? Should I replace the fasteners and any instructions on how to do it?
I've gone thru the owners manual that shows the options I can preset via the display audio (don't have nav) and I don't see where it is possible to turn off the beep when the rear hatch is opened/closed. Is this possible?
View 5 RepliesSo I've been having a problem getting in and out of my drivers side door. It got really cold and snowy here and one day I went to close my door and it wouldn't stay latched. Figured maybe something froze and it just stuck but once I finally got it to close I couldn't get it to open again even once the weather stabilized.
Finally one day it just opened and has been fine ever since but now the door won't lock and the light on the bottom of the door stays on. I had this problem once before and it turned out to be a loose solder joint that I fixed.
My guess is I should just buy a new locking mechanism for that door. Is there something that can cause all the doors be somewhat finicky? All the doors seem to not lock on occasion or open when it appears to be unlocked.
Last thing, I tried to take out that bulb so I wouldn't kill the battery but I accidentally touched the two leeds and the fuse is fine but I think I fried a relay because my dome light no longer works and I can't get the sunroof to close. Looked it up and found something about an accessory relay.
Having problems with my rear power liftgate on my 2011 LX570.. When it is open if I press the close button on the rear door it closes then beeps twice and opens up again. Every thing is clear by the door jam and all of the pieces look fine (nothing bent). When I close the door manually I can hear the lock cycle so that is engaging.
This feels like an electronic problem. The button on the dash and on the key fob only work intermittently to open the door and neither will close it. Yes the rear door off button is not engaged either.
All of a sudden the rear right passenger window doesn't stay closed, it goes all the way up and then it goes down half way. It doesn't matter which switch I use, the driver's side or the passenger side. All the other windows go up as soon as you toggle the switch automatically up and stay up.
View 4 RepliesI had my first and second gear go out on my gti over a month ago, it sat at my house for a little over 2 weeks. When I finally was able to take it to the transmission shop it needed a jump. A week later my transmission was rebuilt and clutch replaced. Car needed a jump when leaving the shop too.
I took it home and a bit later tried to go somewhere and... nothing. Completely dead, won't charge or be jumped. Sunroof was half open and windows cracked. Rained that night so I had a make-shift cover with trash bags and a container top. (I don't know if this matters but just in case it may be water related.)
The next day I got a new battery and changed it. Car worked fine for 2 days. This morning I tried to start it and it fluttered and battery completely shut off. Jumped it and tried to take it around the block after few and it shut off mid drive, but was able to restart while rolling. Then when I pulled over and hit the four ways it immediately shut everything off again. I had someone come with cables so I could just get it home, and as soon as I connected the red cable to + it sparked and the lights and everything turned on, started right up. (the jumper cables were not connected to anything on the other side)
Finally I got it back home and when I pulled into the driveway and stopped I hit the window buttons and boom, everything off again.
Confusing story, but what could be wrong? I included everything just in case. (I have 2 keys, one which keyless entry works and one which it doesn't as of recent. I have used both. Don't know if immobilizer could be it either.)
I just had the clutch replaced and immediately noticed the door open light on the dash wouldn't go off. I tried all the door, hatch and hood to check and it stayed on. Even if I turned off the interior lights, the interior marker light on the bottom corner of the passenger side door only will stay on, the drivers side goes off. I already called the place where the clutch was done and he said to bring it in and he'll take a look at it....which I'm doing today..... What the cause could be. Maybe the door switch is faulty?
View 1 RepliesSo my car started to misfire when under boost so I had the car scanned the first time and came up with codes P0302, P0303, and P0304 which are all for misfires. I replaced the coil packs not even a year ago and the car drove fine as long as I wasn't in boost. My rpms would fluctuate a little bit but not much. I changed the spark plugs and it seemed to work a little bit but it would still misfire under higher boost. The one thing I noticed was my vacuum sits at around 15-17 in when it used to be around 19-20. I've cleaned and disconnected the MAF and the idle didn't improved. I also cleaned the MAP sensor and AIT and the CTS is new. I've done a pressure test and I found some leaks and fixed them but still no luck. Then yesterday my car started running really rough at idle and the cel would flash while driving then stay solid while stopped. Got the car scanned today and got codes P0300, P0301, P0303, and P0304.
View 18 RepliesToday I got my car inspected (05 gli) and after the inspection, when I was driving home and went to a gas station. When I turned my car off and got out the radio (monsoon) stayed on. Then later when I opened my door the dome light did not come on. Passenger door turns light on and shuts radio off. I believe it is a door sensor? Where is this located and how do I change it or any other possibilities of what it could be? I did some research, and I have no issues locking the doors (security light blinks) and the passenger door works fine. Hoping there is a way to fix this without buying a whole new lock mechanism.

View 3 RepliesI just put on some brand new Bilstein shocks/struts with new mounts and some Neuspeed springs. It seems like the rear sits lower than the front. Maybe some polo bushings to bring the front down a bit? No stereo stuff of anything in the trunk..

View 1 RepliesI have KW type ST coils for my 2004.5 gli and I cannot adjust them to the height I want, it said the rear coils were good for around a 2.5 inch drop and it dropped it a little less than an inch when they were all the way released.

View 8 RepliesI've been having trouble with my rear wiper since forever. Every time i try to use the washer fluid for the rear, it doesn't squirt right and fills up the motorized lock for the trunk and malfunctions the lock for a day or 2 until it drys. I had this same problem with my old 1.8t gti, just in that case i had to have the whole lock replaced due to the damage from the washer fluid (luckily the dealer payed for it).
I was thinking maybe swapping it out for the polo rear wiper on ecs tuning.
Pulling into work today and backing into my parking spot, a fellow employee noticed something odd about my front wheels, so he hopped in my car so I could see the issue.
From a dead stop accelerating forward, the front wheels shift a few inches to the rear, and same thing when backing up from a dead stop they shift to the front. Both sides are doing this evenly. I haven't thrown it on the lift yet but I was thinking a possibly bad dogbone mount. The car has 133K on it and the bone has never been touched.
