I'm not sure if this is normal, but I wasn't sure why it would be a feature if it is. My car always locks itself while I'm refueling and standing right next to it. The first few times I thought I bumped the key, but today I held the key in my hand and stared at the button - about a minute later, the car locked and gave it's usual beep as it did so. Is this supposed to happen? If so, why?
View 2 RepliesI've got a 2003 Jetta GLS 2.0L 5 speed that i bought a few months ago. It's a great car but there is one issue...whenever i fill up at the pump it will not start for quite some time. In order to get it to run I have to pump the throttle while turning it over. Once it starts it runs like crap for a bit but it does smooth out. This isn't a huge deal only cause I only put gas in it once a week but at the same time it's annoying. The check engine light was not on at first but after a week or two it came on. I cannot remember the code off hand but it was for a Massive EVAP leak??

It's a short story luckily haha. Every single time I refuel the car, I have to hold the key in the start position for about 10 seconds before the car actually starts running. This ONLY happens when the car has just been refueled. It does manage to start every time but only after the starter has been cranking for about 10 seconds.
I'm thinking of ordering a new fuel filter at the same time I order some maintenance parts for my .:R32 but I don't think the fuel filter is the issue. I'm also going to order new spark plugs soon but unfortunately they're not available from the place I'm ordering the other parts from.
My 93 Honda Accord died yesterday after filling up the tank. I was driving about 30 miles an hour, and only made it 4 blocks from the gas station. When I filled up, I didn't "top it off", but I did notice that it needed a lot of gas- about 13 gallons. I don't remember if I fully tightened the cap or not. I was in drive when it died, even though I had my foot on the gas pedal. When it died, the battery and oil light went on; it wouldn't restart, and smelled pretty foul. The engine wasn't over heating- just no power.
Over the past few weeks when the car is in park, the RPM will surge, but it doesn't happen when it is in gear. Other than that and the car stalling on the road, there haven't been any problems with it. I had it towed to a local repair shop that I trust. They looked at the gas to see if it was contaminated, but it came out clean. They said the car started right up, and they didn't find anything wrong with it. I am happy to have a working car, but scared to have it die again in rush hour on my way to work. What happened, or what I could do in the future?
I have a 85 cj7 with a 258 straight 6 and recently when I have been refilling the gas tank she won't start right away and I end up waiting 1 to 2 hours before she will start up and then she drives fine until you have to put more gas and the cycle happens all over again. What the problem could be?
View 7 RepliesI have a 2004 Hyundai Sonata and when I refuel the engine is hard to start. Once it starts everything is normal until the next fueling. I've Googled the problem and the most logical result I've seen is that the evap system purge valve might be stuck open. This causes a flooding situation which is how my car acts and if I press the accelorator to the floor when starting it fires right up. Does this diagnosis sound accurate and what would be involved to repair it.
View 1 RepliesI'm having issues filling up my gas tank; I can't pump gas at full speed, not even at the slower setting that you can set the pump to. It just clicks off like it's full. When I pull the gas pump out i can see some gas has collected and it takes time to drain down the pipe. In order to fill the tank I have to hold the pump so it pumps slowly. It seems to be worse during hot weather; and the severity of it varies.

And i know its half tank because i can see how much gallons its taken in. Is there a certain way of putting the handle in? So far its happened twice and its really annoying. Any reasons why it does that? Also does it on my dads toyota sequioa at times...
View 5 RepliesI used to drive an Acura which had an option to have the trip computer automatically reset each time after refuel. I spoke to my dealer and they mentioned that this is an option.. I was able to get the 'range' to display be default but haven't been able to figure this out yet.

I just programmed a new eBay key fob today and it works fine to lock/unlock the car (programmed using the 1 key in ignition, other in door method). It locks and unlocks all doors including the trunk, but when I try to start the car with it, it starts, then dies right away...guessing something to do with Immo2?
Preliminary information: the vehicle is a 2003 jetta (gli), My drivers door ajar switch is broken and the ccm recognizes it as closed at all times (open circuit), also I was hit in the rear at about 40mph by an f-250 a week after I bought the car and I repaired the damage myself (I am not a body tech). I replaced all electrical components in the trunk as they were all destroyed as well as the trunk lid which has never quite closed the same.
.Key Fob serves no function, (replaced the battery as troubleshooting.)
.If I lock the doors VIA drivers door, passenger door or by key in door, the doors will lock and then immediately unlock.
.It seems to think a door is open even though they are all closed and the overhead lights don't come on like they would if a door was open.
.The door ajar light was on when it first started and the light burnt out after less than an hour in (coincidence? or short? I don't know what circuit to start on).
I have a 2003 jetta GLI (vr6 6 speed) that i received from a friend because of some body damage to the doors mainly. so i replaced the doors with some from a 2001 jetta glx, but the power windows don't work with the switches inside the car. However, when I put the key in the door and turn it, all of the windows will go up and down...(So the motors are good and they are getting power) the door locks, gas cap lid, trunk, sunroof all work and the interior lights work as well.
So i researched it and everyone said fuse #14 or ccm... so i replaced the fuse.... multiple times now just to make sure... After that didn't work, i bought a new ccm with the same part #. that didn't work at all... still same problems... I was wondering if maybe the new doors are or aren't CAN-BUS? if that even matters?
I picked up a 2004 Jetta 1.8T and it's had a lot of electrical issues, it had some water damage from a plugged cowl drain and a I've found a bunch of stuff just unplugged. I had a shop fix some missing grounds to get it running and they went through the dash and found all the air control plugs had become unhooked somehow, so they got the air conditioning working. Now i'm working on getting the locks and the horn to work. I've checked the fuses, they're not blown. I'm not sure about the relays under the dash, but I can hear a clicking from the comfort control module when I hit the key fod. The buttons on all the doors are not working. the horn will sound if the alarm is set off but doesn't work when the button is pushed on the steering wheel, nor when the key fob is struck. The windows all work, both from the key turn and the switches in the door. I'm totally lost on what to do here.
View 3 RepliesI've got a 2002 jetta. new ecu, new cluster, new keys (new to me from a 2010 beetle) all installed but my windows, door illumination, locks and electric mirrors dont work. Windows will go up and down with key in door, and locks work that way as well. if i put my old cluster back, everything works fine.

View 5 RepliesThis started happening a couple days ago, after turning off the car and attempting to lock the car with the handle button, it will lock (no beep) then unlock- the same way it would if there were keys left inside. The only other set of keys are at my house, so I know that's not the issue. Doesn't do it all the time, but enough to be annoying. Same thing happens if I use the remote- lock, no beep, unlocks. The only way I can get it to beep and stay locked is to open the pass side door and lock it with the pass side door button.
View 14 RepliesI put my car in reverse and my door locks has some sort of spasm. The rear locks started twitching for several seconds then stopped.
Now both key fobs will only unlock the drive's side door. All locks work fine with the key.
Untimely demise on my remote unlock feature? Other threads have dealt with single door issues. We had that problem with the rear door on our 99 but this not the same issue since only one door will unlock remotely.
I know that my car battery needs to be replaced but it should not cause a problem. Also all fuses were checked and are ok. What to check.
