So I just finished installing some new OEM LED headlights and was programming with vagcom... I set my byte 18 to 21 (I had it at 1F because I had the OEM tails already on there) My car does not start after doing this... I just hear these loud clicks and nothing. Everything else seemed to work fine but now my radio just shut off and the car still does not start!

I took it to the dealer, which had a hard time fixing it (they had it about 2 weeks), and they replaced all the fuses in the truck and it worked for about a week, but it just stopped again. Not sure what to do.
View 1 RepliesMy car was having starting issues recently so I took the starter to Autozone and the guy said that it wasn't performing as well as it should. I just went ahead and bought a new starter hoping that would fix it. I took the starter home installed it and the car started! Yay!(I thought) The next day I drove it around a couple of times, that night I went to go to work and it wouldn't start. All I get is one click when I try and start it. The alternator is fine and it is a brand new battery.
View 1 Replies2001 Jetta 1.9 TDI that won't start! For the past few months, starting the car has been hit or miss. I started by changing the battery, later the starter, then later the glow plugs. Each item seemed to get it start. When I say "hit", the car started fine as long as it was plugged in when cold. And "miss", the car clicks or grinds with no start.
After I changed the glow plugs it didn't miss at all for a couple weeks (the outside weather has been getting warmer too). Then it started missing on and off, and now wont start at all.
Here is a video - the sound it makes during the second attempt (clicks then winds) has been common since not long after changing the starter. [URL] ..... The car is being boosted during the video.
Some extra information: about a month ago I notice the coolant was a little low (added less than a cup of G12), a few years back the car, had some half diesel and half gas ran through it. The car has 350,000 kms..
So, I decided to re-code the car such that the radio does not shut off when I turn off the engine (KESSY) but rather when I open the door to get out. It's accomplished by recording the instrument cluster to think it's a UK cluster. Well, when I did that the area that usually displays the outside temp is displaying my speed in KPH. I changed the coding back to US and it didn't work. The temp is displayed if I choose to have the car stats displayed like miles till empty and such but that's not usually what I have displayed. Funnily enough, I do like knowing what the outside temp is.
View 17 RepliesMy car Mk4 Gti has not been starting recently, showing all the symptoms of a dead battery. When I try to start it clicks or sometimes if there's more juice the engine attempts to turn over once or twice.
The weird thing is this started happening in conjunction with my monsoon head unit randomly dying. The radio was dead for a while and my battery would randomly die. Then I fixed the radio by reseating the fuse on the back and the problem went away.
Just today I started my car and everything was fine sitting in my driveway. Then I noticed that the battery light was on, and then my head unit died. I turned my car off to try and fix the radio issue and then it wouldn't start back up. Not sure what the issue is.....
I have been having some electrical problems lately that seem to be getting worse. For the past few months sometimes when i hit a bump or pothole my radio would shut off and then turn back on. Well I never got around to looking at it cause i would forget about it until it did it again. so just a couple of days ago im coming into my driveway, hit the bump, and my car shuts off. Not like a stall, just no electricity. I was thinking i need a new battery because my lights flicker and dim when i hit my window button, or when I am just sitting at a light, sometimes my dash lights will flicker. But now I am thinking maybe I have a bad ground or something.

I notice the A/C blue light blinks/clicks on once in a while even when the A/C is shut off. Is this a typical thing?
I have a 2004 Jetta, 2.0L. I was pulling out of stop light and the car sputtered for a second and shut off, and now will not start. I thought I heard a clicking noise coming from under the dash or the engine bay right before it shut off. The engine turns over and cranks fine, I replaced the fuel pump relay and checked the fuse(28) and both are good, I can hear the fuel pump run when the key is in the on position. I swapped out the coil pack and checked the injector fuse(32), both are also good. I pulled the line off of the end of the fuel rail and it's getting gas to the rail. The immobilizer light is not on but the EPC light is lit when I turn the key on, I can't remember if it was lit or not before starting when the car is running normal.
View 6 RepliesI've noticed more and more recently that I've been having hard rumbling starts and not from the exhaust note either. Its not like I have to hold down the PTS button long either but it just starts hard and turns off pretty rough too and its not even after driving it for long periods. Even driving for 10-15 minutes I have this issue.
View 7 RepliesMy 2005 vw GTI doesn't like to start in the cold. It will start and I can rev it just for a second before it turns off again. My ABS and ESP traction control lights are on and they only turn on when I have this problem. Normally when it does this I can let it sit for a couple of hours and it will start as if nothing was even wrong. I took it to the dealer to do a full diagnostic on it and the only thing they could find was a faulty instrument cluster and I don't think that is what is causing my car not to start.
View 9 RepliesI got an 03 vw gti. I was driving to work and car just shut off and hasn't start ever since. Check my fuses and relays there all good. I thought it would be my fuel pump so took the old one back to auto parts and got a new one. That didn't work. I also just replace my crank sensor cause my car won't crank at all, but it back fires after the first attempt to start it and i did some research and ppl had that same problem and said it was the crank sensor but that didn't work either.

View 1 RepliesThe car cranks absolutely 100%, in no way is this the battery, it just will not start. Then I noticed the fuel pump wasn't shutting off, I only had a quarter tank in the car, I figured as hot as it was today I was getting some vapor lock with the fuel. Went and got some gas, still wouldn't start, then the dash started yelling at me telling me I have no oil pressure, shut off the car.........car you are not running calm down. So then there's that along with the car not starting. I took the fuel hose off to make sure I was getting fuel, I was, so I took the key back out, but the car would not give up, the fuel pump kept going and the dash was blinking violently. When I put the hose back on and got compression it finally stopped, that can't be how the cars work can it? The fuel pump doesn't shut off if there's no compression? Checked all fuses and the fuel pump relay, every was fine, the fuel pump even still ran with the relay out. What could be going on, I can't seem to find one damn thing even related to the fuel pump not shutting off.

Funny, but I think the Nav is pretty good - and it seems like the latest software version has fixed many of the gripes on this forum. Of course I never had a nav system before, and I did see that the MDX's system is pretty snazzy. I read the manual carefully, but how to shut the radio or CD changer, but keep the Nav or Map screen displaying its goodies? Let's say I'm playing the radio and then want to switch to the Nav or Map but shut off the crap music. I couldn't figure it out, and ended up just lowering the volume.
View 18 Replies1994 BMW 540.... My car stopped suddenly while I was driving 30 mph. The radio stayed on. I pulled over. I tried to start the engine a couple times and finally it started. I drove for another few minutes and then parked and idled the car. After idling the car for about 5 minutes it turned off, and the radio stayed on. I tried starting it again for 5-10 minutes but was unable to. I got it towed and brought to a mechanic. The mechanic wasn't able to start it either, so he sprayed some starter fluid on the engine and it was able to start. He drove it around and idled it and was unable to recognize what the problem was. He didn't expect it to stay running with just the started fluid, but it did. He has no clue what happened and is not able to replicate it. There were no engine codes. I'm afraid to drive the car in case it stops again. Wat is going on? Is it safe to drive? I don't want to be driving 60 mph and have this happen again.

Still only clicks once. checked voltage across terminals to the grounds. swapped relays around still one click. Going to check in the morning make sure it didn't seize.

Took battery to automotive store and it tested bad. I still asked them to charge it, let it set overnight and test it again when I pick it up. It tested 100%.

I have a 2001 Accent with a 1.6L engine. My son drove it yesterday with no problem. This morning when he tried to start it we would get a click from the starter when he turned the key and that's all. Tried jumping it. That didn't work. So I jumped to conclusions and replaced the starter. I have the same problem. Click.
I have taken the old starter and the battery to AutoZone and had them both tested. They both work fine. (They'll let me return the new starter if I want to remove it). I've cleaned the battery terminals and cable clamps. I still get the same click. What I did notice tonight after all of this is that when I turn the key the cable end/terminal clamp on the positive terminal SMOKES!
Charged battery, tried adding my 100amp charger "jump" mode on when starting, took off ground and ground down to metal where it attaches, cleaned all the contacts, tried a known good battery. Yet the car still clicked when trying to start it. I removed the starter and wired it with appropriate gauged wire, and had someone turn the key while I held the starter and it operated as it should, no clicking. What should I try next before I re-install the starter, so I don't end up having the system clicking like there is a dead battery again? Because I certainly didn't fix anything.

In off, the car has clicks just behind the floor shifter in a black module and under and foward of engine compartment fuse block. Only way to stop clicking is to move ignition switch to another position or pull IB Battery MaxiFuse in engine compartment fuse block. No activity from car in any other ignition position. no instrument panel lights, radio.
Thought ignition switch changed it, same condition. Battery checks out good. jumpstarting even using a second ground on engine doesn't change symptom. I can't find the modules that are clicking in my Chilton manual. What are the clicking modules and how can I move forward to get the car out of the burger king parking lot?
