I have been told it may be glow plugs or an idle actuator thingy, how do i check which one it is. How can you tell if a glow plug is working or not. I have a 2006 Santa Fe 2.0 with 58000 on the clock.

View 13 RepliesWhen I do a cold start-up and after about 5-10 seconds after start, I get this clicking noise coming from the rear passenger side. Almost sounds like something maybe gas cap is trying to lock or something. But when I hear this noise and even unlock the fuel cap I still get the same noise. I cant figure it out for the life of me. I even unlock and open the rear hatch... same noise. And after about 20 seconds of this noise then all of a sudden it goes away.
View 17 RepliesMy 2010 Prius V just past the 24000km mark. I have a buzzing noise coming from the engine bay during startup. It happens when the interior fan is on. You can hear it clearly after you start the car, during the silence of the "boot up", before the ICE kicks in. I can't be sure if it continues to buzz after that because the sound of the ICE drowns it out. However, If I shut off the fan during the boot up, the buzz disappears. Finally, if I leave the fan off and start the car, there is no buzz.
During a recent oil change, a hybrid technician claims that this is normal. It used to happen infrequently but now it is consistent, so if it was normal, I should have heard it when the car was new.
I am getting an electric sounding click coming from the steering column, ECU area. It does not happen all the time. I heard it when I first got the car and it just started up again.
I am thinking the Unitronics chip I just got is having the ECU relearn everything and that is causing the clicking.
I have a 1999 SD V10 with about 133K on it. Runs great to the day. Recently I noticed alot of clicking and rough sounding noise coming from the a/c compressor the other day. Yep I got up underneath it and it look like it's about shot.
My question is : How hard is it to replace the clutch yourself with a new one. Are there any step by step direction here on the ford forums on how to do it. Looks like can just replace the a/c clutch and be good to go. A/C still blows cold air.
I took it to my mechanic the other day and they want $ for a replacement compressor and labor. I'd like to try and avoid that amount for now and just replace the clutch.
2010 Ford Focus. My fiancee noticed that when accelerating, the car has an electrical sounding whine coming from the engine. It only occurs when we're accelerating and pitches a bit higher when we're turning
We have until Thursday to return the return the car if their is an issue.

I purchased a brand new 2014 Sonata Limited 2 months ago and took it to the local dealer last night for two issues.
The first issue was small rust spots on the sillplate and the second is a very slight clicking noise I hear from the engine compartment now when I turn the temperature dial.
The dealer just called and said that the clicking is "normal". The car didn't do it for the first two months.
Went out to run some errands this morning, and was alarmed to hear a loud, tinny-sounding banging noise from the rear of the car. It would occur on every bump. little or big; every time I braked; every time I started up from a stop; after each shift to a higher gear; and every time I turned a corner.
I was getting really concerned, as I had never heard a noise quite like this on any car, ever before. When I got home, I pulled the floor jack out of the garage, then went to the trunk to get my torque wrench with the wheel bolt socket on it.

I have a MT '12 Golf 2.5L with around 8k miles. I always park with the transmission in neutral. When I first start it up in the morning, the engine revs high, around 1500RPM, so I can clearly hear the engine inside the car. I start it, it revs up and holds, and when I release the clutch I hear what sounds like a rev, but the tach doesn't move.
I believe the GTI doesn't need the clutch depressed for the entire turn over, but the Golf does, so I have to hold it until the engine is running. It may not be a big deal, but I'm just wondering why releasing the clutch in neutral would make a noise. I don't hear it any other time than at start up.
Been hearing a plastic sounding tapping noise when I ride over very bumpy roads. Turns out the floor panel in the trunk has some play and it's not padded. Well I wedged a towel Between the floor and the trunk lid and the tapping is gone. I was able to duplicate the sound by lifting and dropping the sliding floor in the trunk. View 3 RepliesMy car has ~2500km on it now and I've noticed a whirring / knocking noise from the left side of the car Mk6 GTI. It's not loud (in fact, hardly audible at times) but it's there. It's most noticeable when I am driving slowly (~30km/h) at low rpms (1500rpm).
It's only when the car is in motion that I can hear the noise. I revved the engine in neutral and could not re-produce the noise.
I've tried adjusting the tire pressure but that didn't seem to work. It was at 38 psi and now at 40 psi. No diff in the noise level.
It sounds like a knocking (like two plastic tubes hitting each other) /whirring noise but I cannot pinpoint the source...or whether it's even under the car or the engine...but it's definitely the left side.
When ever I turn my vent air on or change the temperature dial in my golf (non-climate control) the A/C turns on. If I just have the heater on and its too warm and I turn the dial from red toward blue the A/C will turn it self on. If I keep the heat the same and turn the fan from 1 to 2 the A/c will turn itself on. (At least the A/C signal lights up yellow.)
Is this normal for the golf or is something screwy? maybe it needs the ac to dehumidify or something but it is tough to constantly manually turn off the a/c. And btw If I hit the "off" button, the a/c will turn off, but then turn itself back on if i do any thing else.
I've got a 1997 Honda CRV. Recently when you start it up in the morning there is a terrible clatter coming from the engine. Yet, once the car warms up, the clatter totally subsides and the car runs and drives normally. Turn the car off and then start it again, the clatter comes back - but then in a minute or so the clatter is gone and all is well. I've checked the fan area and belts - nothing is caught in there. Seems like the sound is coming more from the engine. Can't figure it out. By the way - did I mention that the car now has 338,000 miles on the odometer? Other than that, the car runs fine. Is it time to give up the ghost?

I've got this tinny buzzing noise coming From the engine bay that only happens between 2800 and 3k rpm. I hear it whenever I'm cruising on the highway and shifting through gears. Also if I have the windows down you can hear it outside the car.
So I've got an odd noise coming from my engine, sounds like a hum or quiet whine. Almost like the whine of a supercharger.
The noise does get louder when the rpm's increase. So wondering if had the tensioner pulley fail, if there were any noises associated with it prior to it failing?
I have a '06 sonata 3.3 v6. Let me first describe what was happening to the car before the noise started. When I first started the car and put the ac, the first time turning the steering wheel in either direction the steering wheel would tighten up and the battery indicator light would come on and the fasten seatbelt light would flash even though I had the belt fastened. It would only happen the first time I would make a turn and after that I could turn with no problem. So in recap, it would only happen on the first turn and only when the ac was on. Now when I start the car up there is a noise coming form the pulley/belt area. I wouldn't classify it as a squeaking noise more like a grinding. I've looked at the belt and it seems to be fine. After I start to drive the car the noise goes away. If I start the car again after a drive within about 2 hours the noise doesn't happen when I start it. What this noise could be? and also could the noise and the steering wheel tightening when the ac is on be connected?
View 1 RepliesAbout a two weeks ago, I had a CEL pop up. I brought it in to the stealership to get it scanned. I don't recall what the exact code was, but the description was something to the effect of "Cooling System Performance." I hadn't noticed that the engine temp was any different than it had ever been, so we kinda figured it was just a bad sensor. We popped the hood just to take a look at things, but he didn't really notice that anything was off. I thought the engine sounded a little difference. It wasn't idling rough, but there was a very subtle ticking noise. He didn't think anything of it. So he cleared the code, and sent me on my way.
The code came back a few days later, but disappeared about a week ago. Since then, however, my .:R has been feeling a little different. Like I'm losing torque. The ticking noise has become distinctly louder, although I can only hear it when I pop the hood. Last night, i was listening to it, and there are two separate noises, coming from two different locations. One is coming from the left side of the engine, most likely from one of the belts. The other is the one that worries me the most, as it's quite a bit louder. This ticking noise seems to be coming from the engine itself. The longer I let the car idle, the louder it gets.
One of my friends took a listen, and he suggested that it could be a blown piston ring. This would explain why I'm losing torque, but I haven't noticed any blue smoke coming from my exhaust.
Recently bought a 2012 gti last week, everything is great until I hear a weird whistling noise coming from the engine. I suspected it was the water pump, since i researched it and some people had the same problem. Brought it back to vw to get it checked and they said their was nothing wrong and it was a common problem.
View 11 RepliesSometimes (most of the time) whenever i turn on my car, there's sort of like a clicking noise (really loud, if you get out of the car you can still hear it), push the clutch in and its gone. The other times when it doesn't start right away, the car warms up and the noise is present. I don't know if its normal for Volkswagens to do that, But i didnt notice it when i got the car. Im not sure if its the engine, trans or clutch. At first i thought it was my A/C because whenever i would turn it off the noise would go away.
It wasn't the A/C, it started to go out, don't have money to replace it, so now i always leave it off. the noise stopped for a little while but eventually came back. It only happens when the car is idling, start to accelerate, it goes away until i come to a stop again.
It's a 2000 Golf 1.8t 5 speed manual.
