I'm trying to adjust the headlights on my Jetta wagon. I know the basic way to go about doing that theoretically, but how to actually adjust the headlights? Are there screws or something somewhere? I also thought I read somewhere that the car automatically adjusts the headlights slightly as your driving? How do I account for that?
View 4 RepliesI've been experiencing power loss at random times while driving, idling, With almost always flickering headlights on my mkiv 1.8t gti. Also on what always seems like the exact same spot on the freeway I'm losing all power to the wheels and it feels as if my plugs aren't firing for about 10 seconds Which causes me to bog down. At which point I down shift and play the throttle until my motor then begins running normally again.
I've semi recently replaced my battery and terminals, due to corroded terminals and worn out battery. Is is possible a ecu reset could solve this problem?
Also when the power surges during driving my traction control and hand-brake lights on the tachometer will flash and the car will beep three or four times (same as when the hand-brake on beep).
I have been trying to tackle my AC problems for quite some time now...I noticed my AC was not working properly a little while back, so I ran the diagnostics on climatronic. It came back saying AC high pressure switch. I replaced that -- still nothing. I continued to run more diagnostics. My fans run when the car heats up, so its not overheating, but when I turn on the AC, no fans come on automatically. I jumpered the fans directly off the battery and they both work on both speeds. When I hook it up to the thermo switch plug, it only works on low speed. I replaced the FCM, which had a lot of corrosion on it -- I Even had to run repair wire for 2 of the pin ports. I Jumpered the compressor too, and it seems to have kicked on as well. Even if the compressor were bad, wouldn't the fans still try to run when AC was on.
View 12 RepliesI have a Jetta 4.5, as you know this cars has a function that when the windows are open and you lock the car, if you keep pressing the lock button in keys of your car, the windows automatically closes.
The last week my car was full washed, the engine and everything, actually the Radio went into 02 Safe mode but I did a trick to fix it, but my windows are still with that issue.
I normally open my Jetta with the key, as apparently the "remote" works on all doors but the driver's one. I will fix it at some point; anyway, what really disturbs me, is that all the doors get locked after a short time I start driving and stay closed even when I stop and turn off the engine. It's very inconvenient because I normally always put something I need to reach on the back seats etc. Can this behavior be changed? Do I have some options?
View 9 RepliesI own a 2000 Jetta auto with 200k on it. I have the same problem. It wouldn't change gears till 4000 rpm i scanned it. And got the cods g38 and g68. So I changed both. It was working fine then again same thing it works then stop works. So scanned it again and got same codes changed them again worked fine then stopped working so I took it to vw and they told me same thing same sensors and the wire harness so I changed them again got the parts from VW this time. It was working then stopped. And when I turn on the car and drive my gear box display goes all black for at least 10 min driving then goes back to normal. But sill doesn't change gears. Now not even after 4000 rpm. Ps. When I do it manual 1st gear 2 and changes fine once I put it on drive doesn't not change gears.
View 7 RepliesI have an 03 Golf VR6 and only has 76k on it. Ive only had it a week but I have come to notice a couple peculiarities. So first off at night regardless of speed or RPMs, ALL OF MY LIGHTS have a slight flicker. Its not a huge difference, but its definitely noticeable. Engine runs fine. No battery light. Additionally, twice when I go to start it in the morning, after starting the alternator workshop light will kick on. after giving it a tiny bit of gas it goes away and doesn't come back. Everything else seems fine. no check engine lights, no trip meter resetting, and the flickering seems to be sporadically. Tonight I tested the battery and alternator and both tested good. My only thought is that it might be a loose ground. Tomorrow I plan on taking a look at the ground under the battery. I've tried searching the threads here, but Im having trouble finding any relevant info. Also, is the voltage regulator inside the alternator, a separate piece, or in the ecm?
View 7 RepliesSo I just noticed now that my car is popping slightly at idle occasionally...It doesn't do it all the time and the idle is kinda lumpy but always holds at 800-900. Sometimes it drops a bit lower.
Also when starting it up in the morning, or when the engine is cold it doesnt rev up to 1500rpms it just starts and immediately drops to 800-900??
When I press on the gas and keep the pedal at one spot, say 2000rpms, it slowly drops down to 1500??
So to start off, its 10 degrees here with a -7 degree windchill. With that in mind, I was driving home just now from dropping off a friend, and noticed my engine temp was slightly about 190. Didn't think much of it, but within a mile down the road the temp was crossing the final line before the red 260 degree line. I pulled over and let it get down to 190 (luckily didn't take long) but in the next 3 miles home it rose again, then fell, and then rose again as I drove through my neighborhood. I'm thinking maybe the thermostat is going bad...? There's no way it went from normal operating temp to almost overheating as cold as it is....
View 18 RepliesThe brake light came on randomly yesterday, flashing foe about 5 seconds, then shut off. Hasn't come on since, but I looked at the brake fluid resovior and the level is about .5cm (.2inches) below the "min" marker.
Can I just open the resovior, pour in the fluid, recap it and go? I remember hearing from someone that if you open the resovior cap at any time, air rushes in and you must bleed the entire system before you can drive again
My headlights (mainly right, but sometimes left) would sometimes turn off by itself... if it turns off, I would then manually switch off the headlight and switch it back on (right away), and both headlights would come back on... I'm not sure what is causing this, and had thought it was a defective bulb. I went and bought new bulbs, but it doesn't seem like it's the bulbs that are causing it.

View 12 RepliesI woke up this morning to rain and a very sick Phaeton. The car is locked, however the headlights turned on automatically. The car has a smell of burning electrical components. The wireless unlock doesn't work, so I had to open the door with the key. This set off the alarm. I was unable to shut it off by putting the car key into the ignition. Now the key is stuck in the ignition. Various lights are flashing, but I cannot start the car. The batteries are less than 2 years old.

So VR6 owners know that our girl, though she's got a fat ass, will absolutely move. I've been opening her up in Sport mode on Interstate stretches and have noticed every time I click over 100 the DRL's disengage and headlights automatically come on. Even if I turn the headlamp button completely off, then back to Auto, low beam headlights still stay on. Only after the car has been off again does it reset.
I have a 2001 jetta mk4 and I was thinking about getting some halo lights for it. But then I thought it would be useless because the headlights are always on regardless. So is it normal for the headlights to be on all the time? And if it is, is there a way to bypass the headlights so if I did,get halo lights, only the halos would light up?
View 5 RepliesI recently changed out my headlight bulbs and now the headlights are slightly out of alignment. I know that the Xenon-equipped Tregs have self-leveling headlights, but mine is the non-Xenon model.
How do I go about aligning the headlights? I did a search and found a thread in the Passat forum, referring to "2 white screws", but don't recall seeing anything similar under my hood.
First problem is, for the first 6 months or so I had my 08 460, the headlights would automatically turn off when I opened the door, now it doesn't. I have to manually click back the light switch inside. It's more annoying because I'm used to just leaving the car and they turn off when opening the door so I didn't notice they were on when I left the car during the day only to come back hours later to a dead car. Needed a jump. Not sure if there a way to change the settings for this that I might have changed?
Second issue is ever since I got my car every single time I start my car my mirrors are in a different position, they're almost always way too high so I can't see cars in the lanes and end up readjusting them while I'm driving which becomes annoying when you have to do that every day, I've set the mirror settings on my memory for all 3 settings, and if I hit memory before driving they'll go to that, so I don't know why they change. The mirrors function properly with the controls so they're not broken.
Why my headlight is not automatic turning off when i used the keyfob to lock the doors? it used to turn it off right the way (that's what I rememeber) but now I lock the door by the remote and its still on for like 5 min.. isn't normal!

So, my alternator died last night and when I changed it this morning, I fired her up and now when I turn my light switch one click I can see my high beam light illuminated on the dash. If I have the switch on any setting, it's illuminated but no lights are on out front except the dtr lights. Turn signals work fine and so do the brake/tail lights. I checked the fuses for both low/high beams but they were fine. I saw someone mention an ignition switch while I was searching but I'd rather get other opinions whether it is that or not.
Edit: My original test drive the car ran fine minus the headlight issue. But upon driving it through the city when I was coming to a stop at a redlight the battery light came back on and it died. It fired right back up and barely made it across the street to a parking lot before it died again. It'll fire up but won't stay on. On my way to an parts store for charging system check.
05' TDI Jetta. The headlights will not turn on. The DRL's will work. I changed the dimmer switch, and put in a Euro switch to try and fix it. But the only thing I get when I turn on the headlights are the running lights. All the running lights and interior (dash) lights work fine. I checked the fuses and pulled the 173 relay (to kill the DRL's).
