The small screen in the middle between the speedometer and the RPM has not been functioning ever since in bought my Automatic 1.8T.
Now, to set some things straight, my transmission works fine. The small screen lights up in blue when the lights are lit, but the actual gears are not shown both with light or without light.
I checked my Fuses and all seem well. What could be the issue?
I realized my horn is not working. I also realized that the left side turn indicator (blinker) light is not working and when I popped it out I saw the wires were chewed up, I am not sure what happened. Do you think I need to remove the wheel well liner to try to access that area? What to do?

Now and then I notice the vehicle is kind of slow and every now and then when going from P to R, or R to D, it enters with a bang and after that the Gear indication in the dashboard disappears. At that moment the car is completely sluggish, like if it is some kind of lock mode. I have to turn it off and on again and all is back to normal, however, after an episode that it enters with a bang the transmission doesn't react as well as normally, it takes a while for the car to behave normal again.
The fact that the gear indicator disappears from the screen on the dashboard suggests to me that this is a computer problem more than a mechanical issue.
Noticed this afternoon that as it got dark outside, all dash and door lights aren't working.
The gauge cluster lights, VERY dimly, but delays by appx 2 seconds before coming on? Only switch light that still works right is the Red ring on the Headlight switch.
Again this is all lights, except lights in headliner work fine, gauge cluster lights very dimly with a delay?
So I just got a new car tonight (01 Jetta 1.8t) traded my tdi for it. They failed to tell me about the lighting problem. The dash light (blue ones that light up whole dash) only work sometimes. Don't work when headlight switch is on (have euro switch) but they will work sometimes if you put the left blinker or hazard lights on. Illumination for window / lock controls are glowing red, same as all the buttons by the vents up top of the radio, ac / climate control lights not working. They did end up telling me that they swapped the other car they had (2L golf mk4) and they swapped in that dash and it worked no issues. Do I need a whole new cluster?? Or is there something I can try to fix it?
View 1 RepliesI just got a 2001 Jetta 2.0 (I know slow but I needed a work vehicle) and the dash lights and passenger rail lights don't work, the check engine light, fuel light, all those type of lights work, but the speedometer and blinkers and that stuff don't work, and then the blinker works in the back but no break light. I'm pretty good mechanically but when it comes to electrical stuff I'm completely stumped. What it could be? I haven't looked into anything due to just getting it last night and having to work this morning.
View 3 RepliesAll's going well for 10 miles and then I suddenly notice, the in-dash flasher indicator, is not working or clicking as I change lanes. The outside mirrors are fine - showing turn flashes. So, I pull off into a gas station and shut down the whole electric system, and pull the key out.
I reboot and start up, but still no change. I try to put the emergency button off/on...it works fine. I move the flasher stick back and forth. But still no turn flasher indicator, on the inside dash. So, I guess it's a blown fuse and I will attend to it Sunday in daylight. We go to the restaurant, have dinner and get back into this scrambled egg. I stick the key in and ACHTUNG IT WORKS!
My Daughter just bought a nice 99 F150 and the auto trans gear dash indicator is off by one so park says R and drive says N ... shes also having a little trouble with the key occasionally so I think the problems are related. Is this adjustable or not?
View 5 RepliesMy high beam indicator in my dash is not working, I pulled the bulb and checked it and it is fine, so I did a voltage test and I am only getting 1.5 volts at the light terminals, I should be getting 12 volts. Is there a wiring diagram someone has so i can see if it is the dash display itself or that I could trace back to the switch to see if it is something in the headlight switch? or What it could possibly be. other than that, everything else works.
View 3 RepliesI have a 2007 Passat 2.0T with 5000 miles. I love the car, handling, comfort, power, refinement and all related but had a big shock when I went to the VW dealer for 5000 mile check. The service tech said my car had a optional computer software upgrade to regulate the intake valve (mostly to keep it from sticking open). I thought it was fine to do the upgrade EXCEPT when he said that if I did the upgrade , I would lose the gear indicator lights on the center dash between the speedo and tach! .....so, I would no longer have visual indication of Park, reverse etc....or indication of 1,2,3,4,5,6 for the tiptronic tranny mode. Why or if you have been able to do the software upgrade for the intake valve, WITHOUT losing the the indicator lights on the dash?

I recently got a 2001 VW Golf 1.8T from a buddy in the Marines. He delivered it to me at my home almost 4 hours away, as described, reportedly without any issues. I got all of the paperwork transferred so that my wife could have a solid daily driver, only to discover ...
1) The vehicle in question was apparently used by a car audio company local to him, who has done some serious screwing with the electrical system in order to incorporate (and then remove) their crap.
2) When shifting through the gears, and coming to 4th gear, you get a couple of seconds of initial acceleration, followed by deceleration and RPMs falling, which in turn leads to the speedo dropping.
3) The same thing happens in 5th gear.
4) The only option is to downshift to a lower gear, which she did, and was apparently cruising along at 60 mph in 2nd gear, as 3rd gear was behaving the same way as 4th/5th upon downshifting. I'm not a mechanic by any means, but I'm pretty sure this is a BAD thing .
4x4 dash indicator light stopped working on my father's 2002 F-350 V10 about 8 years ago and I'm trying to see if I can fix that problem.
Unsure exactly when this problem began, but when a mechanic replaced front wheel hub about 8~9 years ago, automatic hub lock stopped working. Back then, I thought that is why 4x4 indicator stopped working.
When I removed hub to replace ball joint 2 years ago, I discovered yellow O ring was not installed and that was the reason why automatic hub lock stopped working. Now I installed new O ring and vacuum seal, automatic hub lock works. However, 4x4 indicator on the dash still does not work.
I thought may be bulb went out, but when I tested dash bulbs with self test mode, 4x4 indicator light turns on. Also I believe that lamp is LED not regular bulb.
When I pulled DTC, I get P1879 - Powertrain Transmission Transfer Case 2-Wheel Drive Solenoid Circuit Failure. From what I searched this indicates failure at vacuum solenoid for front hub locks, but it is working fine. What is going on?
How to go about reseting service indicator through the dash??

View 1 RepliesSo for 4500 miles since new my truck has been displaying, on the right side of the instrument display in the center dash, the actual gear the truck is in. I would shift from park to drive and move out and the truck would display what gear it was in by placing a lighted box around the gear number as it shifted 1-6. Now that display is gone. It's not anywhere. If I go to the manual mode it will display that, but the normal numbers from 1-6 , bottom to top , are gone.
View 14 RepliesMy truck is a 2007 F-350 DRW. I'm not sure when,because I don't use it much in Texas, but My Four Wheel Indicator lights on the dash quit working. I don't see them in the dash at startup either. I'm not sure if the four wheel drive is coming on at all. There is probably a way to check that without driving off into a mud bog, right? Anyway I have looked for blown fuses etc, no luck yet. (15amp#33 under dash and 30amp#3 under hood). These are according to my manual.

Also, the digital speedo in the same screen does not read accurately, it doesn't keep up with the real speed changes and it just shows a speed and then gets stuck.
I went to get in car today, and the driver screen, needles, and dash lighting was flicking or pulsing.. like a wave rolling through the lcd. its got 1k miles on it, jsw tdi.
i did open the trunk, without unlocking from fob, just trunk button, then it auto locked again when i shut it. have never done that before, so maybe this causes it? i let it sit awhile, and all back to normal.
on a side note, got my 20% tint on all around today and looking good need a drop then wheels.
I have Stage 2 on my MK7 GTI. I have only "gunned it" not even launching, just from rolling, 2-3 times since I flashed noting too crazy. Other than that i have been granny shifting and taking it easy. I was on my home from work and i was on the freeway, I was changing lanes and naturally i gave it moderate throttle to match the lanes speed, revs kinda jumped no acceleration and the gear indicator flickered and a second later it resumed accelerating. I tried in a few gears thinking maybe it was a tune hiccup but sadly it slips 3-5th gear, starting around 2.5k+ RPM with very moderate acceleration, nothing too crazy, the amount you would accelerate to switch lanes or merge.
View 24 RepliesOut driving the other day and suddenly lost power and dash illuminated the EPC and Malfunction Indicator Lamp. Did a bee line to my home and experienced loss of power and engine vibration. At traffic lighta it emitted large quantities of white or blue smoke that smelled like gas.
Connected to VCDS and had 4 codes:
000768 - Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected
000769 - Cylinder 1 P0301 - 000 - Misfire Detected - MIL ON
004874 - Cylinder Disabling
000135 - Fuel Rail/System Pressure
My assumption was a bad coil, so I swapped them but no joy. Then decided to swap coils and plugs and observed cylinder #1 was filled with gas. Siphoned it out and it was able to fill about 1/4th of a beer bottle, or 3 ounces. Top of piston #2 looked slightly wet, but the origin could have been overflow from #1 via intake manifold. I'm thinking #1 injector stuck in the open position. Car is out of warranty so it may be on my dime unless I can convince dealer that this is power-train or emissions related. Best case, I need one or two injectors, oil replacement from gas contamination, plugs and labor. I thought about the worst case and it could be the above + a complete short block + catalytic converter. No tune, 100% stock
What does this mean? For the past few months my transmission has been really clunky and just un-smooth and now this. Is it broken?
