I just purchased a used 01 Jetta GLS. It came with only 1 key and no fob. My key fits the door and ignition but does not seem to fit the trunk or the back seat lock that gives better access to the trunk. The fuel door switch works but the trunk release switch does not (no sound, haven't checked wires yet).

View 4 RepliesI mounted my XM antenna and got in around the window rubber into the trunk. I then pulled the side panel and went in thru what I think is what the dealer told me a pass thru hole. There is a triangle shaped hole that lines up with the center of the rear headrest, I rolled up my wires and put them thru.
I can't feel the wires when I shove my hand thru the crack in the upper/lower rear seat, so I assume that I need to pull the rear seat bottom. I did a search and saw to push in and pull up on the seat base, so far no good. The outer corner of the seat is pretty loose, but nothing gives me access to the wires that I shoved thru.
I folded my back seat down, now it will not lock into the up position! I inspected the locking mechanism and it doesn't appear to have anything wedge in there.
View 4 RepliesI just purchased a 99 1.8t and the drivers seat will not lock in place. It slides back and forth. I looked underneath and see the gearing but was wondering if this is a problem to where I need to remove the seat to fix or maybe some thing easier.
View 3 RepliesI've been dealing with a frustrating issue for a while now. Whenever I use my key fob the alarm sets but my front and back driver side doors won't lock. After playing around I've noticed that the driver's side door locks when actually inserting the key and turning. Also, all of the doors lock when I am sitting in the driver's seat and push the lock button on the door panel but the back driver's side door won't unlock unless I crank the vehicle and hit the unlock button. I don't think the key fob has a low battery because I've used both key fobs and it locks one side but not the other. It's all very weird to me. The situation is frustrating for two reasons:
1) Doors are not actually locking so thieves have access to whatever they can grab and run away;
2) I occasionally forget to hit the unlock button and cause my alarm to go off and annoy neighbors, coworkers, etc.
What could be causing this? I'd like a quick fix but I'm afraid I'm going to have to open up the door panels and play around all weekend.
What maybe causing a metallic clicking from my back seat. It sounds like it's coming from the center of the rear bench seat. It happens sporadically. Just started when it got cold out.
View 3 RepliesMy key FOB only electronically unlocks/locks the doors it wont unlock the trunk and i can't actually use the key part to unlock the car or start the car. Is there a way to fix this besides getting a new key from a dealer since that is very expensive.

I drive with the seat slider in the full back position. I'd like to gain another inch or so....just enough to where I'm not touching the rear seat. Not worried about rear passengers. How easy would it be to either reposition the seat anchor points or modify the seat itself to do this? Also, has anyone tilted the front of the seat up a little to give more thigh support? I was also thinking of shimming or otherwise raising the front half of the seat maybe 1/2 inch to give my legs a little more support.

Can I use my key to open my trunk in the case of a dead battery? I disconnected my battery last night to try it out, but it wouldn't open. Some people say turn the key 50 degrees, but I don't think my key will turn that far. I was also scared of snapping the key off in the lock.

View 8 RepliesSo my 04 GLS Jetta has had this issue for a while and I would like to find out why. If I pull the button for the trunk in the drivers door or press the button my key to open the trunk, nothing happens. The lights will flash when I press the button on the key but no sound comes from the trunk. Same goes for the trunk release button in the door. No sound. The only way I can open the trunk is to use the actual key and while I turn the key, I have to press down on the trunk. Turning the key alone will not open the trunk. It only opens when I press down on the trunk and turn the key.
Is this normal if the trunk release motor on the trunk goes out? I also have had the trunk open and did the button in the door and the key with nothing happening. How to troubleshoot this?
2008 r32. First time i opened it up on the highway, noticed a weird electronic whine under the back seat as soon as we slowed down that wont go away. It changes pitch when you shift and sounds like a weird electronic sys trying to mimic an exhaust leak. Id think fuel pump, but seems louder on the left side (fuel flap on right). Since i talked her into it and i apparently caused this noise, shes gonna kick my ass if I don't fix it. Its somewhat warrantied, so toss out whatever, I am not scared to go to the dealer with 500 things i want them to look at, but i need to know if their diagnosis is correct or total crap. Ive never dealt w 4motion (its incredible) and my newest dub is also a vr6, but its a 92.
View 5 RepliesI have a 2012 2-door R with sunroof and navigation. Almost from the very beginning the driver's seat had a problem. It would not hold the position of the back. It would slowly keep going back. Over a couple of days of driving (less than 2 hours per day) I would have to adjust the back about a 1/4 turn of the wheel to get it back to the original position. I have taken it back to the dealer twice for this and they could not find anything obvious.
They said that they would need to take the seat apart in order to figure it out. According to them I am the first one with this issue they have heard of. I am debating if I should keep adjusting it every couple of days, or take the chance and let them take it apart, hoping that there will be no collateral damage in the process. How easy/difficult it is to get to the guts of the seat?
My latch wont open at all! When i first bought the car the trunk would open but Im not sure what had happened to it. The key doesn't work at all but every time I press the button on my key too open it or from the button on the floor it makes the noise that it unlocked but its still shut??!!?! Maybe I thought it was the fuse but I had changed fuse 15 still nothing any body experienced this before seems too be a common problem. Should I just go through the front and take the panels off for the hatch and diagnose whats wrong with it?
View 1 RepliesI found trunk in 2003 GTi won't lock, and new actuator(motor) didn't, either. No signal on the connector when I press key fob switch, through rear light blink. I guess there would be another connector to this wire(green and blue) somewhere inside the passenger side C pillar.

I thought it was the trunk actuator, so I ordered a new one. I thought this because when I hit the button to open the trunk, I heard a slight buzz (not the sound of the actuator extending) but the arm didn't push out.
When I hooked up the new one to the wire to test it out the same thing happened. I also tested both actuators with a 9V battery and they worked correctly. So, it's not a problem with the actuator itself, and I don't think it's a problem with the wiring since there is at least enough power coming through to cause a buzzing noise...so I don't know what else it could be.
So when i open my trunk and look into the left, after i open that side hatch inside, the floor of the compartment is plastic. And then you can take the floor off.What is this for? It seems too small for a battery!
