There's a clicking noise in the dash behind the headlight switch and all the cluster lights blink on and off when I turn the key. If I try to start it-nothing! If I pull the key out and try again all the blinker lights stay on. Could it be my aftermarket alarm or something else? I didn't have much luck searching.
View 7 RepliesSo, the alternator in my 2000 Mitz Galant just went out and my dad and I changed it, now when I drive my car sometimes the brake and battery lights come on while I'm driving and come on and blink with my turn signals (both of them). It is an intermittent problem, and I took it to Advanced and they said everything looked fine. what's wrong with my car?
View 1 RepliesCar won't start this morning. Put the key in, turn it, and all the dash lights come on but the MPD flickers in sync a rapid clicking noise and I get an "Airbag Error" on the display. Lights, fans, etc work. This has to be tied to the fact that I totally blanked after going out to close my windows and left the keys in the ignition for approximately five hours. The key was in the ACC position, so I assume that led to battery drain on a battery approximately three years old. I've got a trickle charger on it now.
Just figured I'd check here verify that these batteries are not too temperamental/delicate for use with a trickle charger. Also to see if the general opinion is that running the car will recharge the battery or if I should just head out and replace it since three years seems to be the life of these batteries based on what I've read.
So I just got a new car tonight (01 Jetta 1.8t) traded my tdi for it. They failed to tell me about the lighting problem. The dash light (blue ones that light up whole dash) only work sometimes. Don't work when headlight switch is on (have euro switch) but they will work sometimes if you put the left blinker or hazard lights on. Illumination for window / lock controls are glowing red, same as all the buttons by the vents up top of the radio, ac / climate control lights not working. They did end up telling me that they swapped the other car they had (2L golf mk4) and they swapped in that dash and it worked no issues. Do I need a whole new cluster?? Or is there something I can try to fix it?
View 1 RepliesI just bought a 2002 Jetta 1.8t today and have a few questions for some of you with vast knowledge on these cars.
1) When I lock the car the interior lights don't turn off, and about 5 seconds later the dash lights turn on. I sat outside in a lawn chair and waited 10 minutes to see if they would go off and they didn't. Would that be a faulty door switch or the CCM acting up?
2) Doing a 3" catless downpipe with 3" straight pipe?
3) Are there any major issues I should look out for? The car seems to be in pretty good mechanical condition, minus a loose exhaust hanger that rattles at idle. Not bad for 119,00 miles.
My dash lights have a weird glitch when the headlights are on. I can hear a click and the dash lights will go out and immediately back on almost like a blink.
View 13 RepliesMy car not starting at times. the issue goes like this i'll start it up drive it to where i need to go park it do what i need to do come back out to the car and it wont start there;s no clicking from the starter or anything but all my dash lights and electronics work and after trying to start the car for about 15-20 min it'll start up no problem. i went and had the battery and starter tested and they said it was fine. all i can think of is that its the ignition switch but i don't wanna go out and spend close to 100 bucks to replace this if its not the problem.

"I inadvertently had my foot on the brake and lights on for awhile when the car was not started. Ignition on. then when i went to start it, it made a clicking sound inside the car (not at the engine) and the lights on the dash flickered. during that time i was initially still able to turn on radio, turn on headlights, use power locks, etc so i don't think it was the battery (tried jumping it and it did not jump start). maybe it's the starter?
Starter had given no problem previously. Or is there an interlock or module that could be keeping it from cranking?

The other morning when i started the car, i heard 3 short clicking noises come from the dash area. it did it again randomly in single clicks while driving. This morning, it did it again. I shut the hvac off, turned it on again, and i get one loud click. of and on a few more times produced the same results. went for breakfast, shut the car off, leaving the hvac on. when i started the car, i got the 3 loud clicks again.
I have a '06 santa fe 3.5L My "TCS OFF" light "ABS" light turn on and my "4WD" light starts to blink while I am driving. Also my Transmission shifts hard and the engine revs funny (hard to describe what it actually sounds and feels like) when the automatic transmission shifts from 2nd gear to 3rd gear. It shifts find from 3rd to 4th and down shifts from 3rd to 2nd just fine. Just have problems shifting from 2nd to 3rd and it only seem to happen when the lights I mentioned above turn on. What going on? Is this all being caused by a speed sensor? My ABS also seem a little touchy activating when road conditions are not that bad.
View 1 RepliesI am working on this 97 F150 with the EOTF. It is not doing anything. When i turn the key on, no light on the dash comes on. When i operated the 4wd switch, nothing happens, no lights on the dash, no relay clicks or transfer case noise, etc. It has a new t case motor, the switch tests out good. I have researched for a while, and either find people with different symptoms or the original poster never updated with what the fix was. I am unsure where to go at this point, i am suspect of the GEM or the t case relay, but don't want to go replacing stuff without a basis for going so. Ive tested for voltage at the switch as well and it has 5 volts at pin 3.
View 13 RepliesI have a 02 golf and it runs great other then the reoccurring problem i have been experiencing. The problem doesn't happen every time i drive my car, but often. When i drive for a short period of time and i park and go to turn the car off, all the lights on the dash flash on and off, and most of my things restart. Some times i will stop at a stop light or sign and the car will just restart and turn off. I know this maybe something very small.

View 14 RepliesI bought my son his first vehicle, a 98 Bravada. We've had it less than a week and so far the major problem we have come across is the lights in for the gauge cluster in the dash are not coming on. First I thought it was a blown bulb so we replaced that. When we were putting the dash back together, I turned the truck on and turned on the headlights and got nothing. So I jiggled some wires thinking that it might've been a short or a loose wire and still nothing. It was getting dark so my son decided to put everything back together and try again in the morning. When he reconnected the connector for the dome/fog light, everything came back on. But when he moved the dashboard to put it back in place, everything went back out again. Again, I jiggled wires and nothing, not even a flicker. Now there's no lights in the dash and when he turns on the headlights, the radio lights go out along with the compass/MPG gauge located overhead.

At first i thought i was just hearing stuff cause it was early and i was tired, so after work i checked it out again i sure enough it was doing it. It even does it sometimes without even first putting the turn signal on. My buddy and i thought it was a relay or a fuse. Is that right?

Here's the problem, when the high beams are on the dash cluster lights work fine,but when I turn the high beams off the dash cluster lights go off.Im going to buy a new high beam switch but what else might cause this problem?The truck has one of those metal button high beam switches that is mounted on the floor.
My father was driving his 2007 sport trac limited on his way home tonight and all of a sudden he lost all of the instruments in the gauge cluster. At the same time all the indicator lights came on. the truck kept running along with the air conditioning and radio, just lost the instrument cluster. almost like when you first turn the key on before starting. when he got home and turned the truck off, it would not re-start. when you turned the key on even the odometer was blank. when you tried to start it it wouldnt even try to crank. i unhooked the battery and hooked it back up. after about 5 key cycles of not starting like previously, it finally started.

View 20 RepliesI have a 98 chevy blazer that the dash lights and interment cluster (including odometer) only works at night when u turn on the headlights by the switch. And the truck starts sometimes. I placed a piece of tape over the sensor on the dash for the auto lights( this made the dash, interment, odometer work) but now truck will not start. I've been told its the ignition switch.

The spring-clicking kinda noise only happens when i make a sharp right turn at low speed and seems to be coming from the driver's side. So i though bad outer cv joint.
Well, I put on a brand new OEM unit last night and noise is still there.
