Yesterday i had taken my front grill off, 08 R32 including the bottom sections where fogs would otherwise be since you have to.... Anyway, i did all that to get my euro plate secured on my grille. Now I'm hearing a rattling noise when I go over a rough surface or descent sized bump. Everything with the grill is clipped and bolted back in tightly, any other things that could be causing this?
View 6 RepliesMy 99 Jetta is rattling. The noise comes from the front center of the underside of the car. It started out only when I was accelerating and would disappear when in neutral or after reaching 40mph. Now its when its idling and driving at any speeds under 40mph (I think it just gets drowned out above that speed). I looked under the car and saw that there might be a piece causing the noise but I can't figure out what it is. It seems to be in-line with the exhaust system and its a metal, cylinder looking piece that has uniform holes in it. I'm just trying to figure out what is causing the noise, if I can fix it easily or if this is going to be a pretty expensive fix. (It has 165k miles on it, is a 2.1 gas engine with the new body type).
View 1 RepliesAny 'rattle' from their front suspension when going over high-frequency, low speed bumps (manhole covers, potholes etc)?Sounds like a loose strut mount or shock. It's not a creaking sound - a definite rattle - so I don't think it's the engine mount issue that I've read about elsewhere. Car is brand new and is going in for a 60 day courtesy check in a couple of weeks.

I recently about a year ago installed DG springs it did this a little before I replaced the springs but now its louder. it sounds like either a mount is loose or something is broken. I live on a dirt road so I hear it a lot on the small bumps. could it be the upper strut bearing? or the fact the coils are shorter? I have 112k on the clock and Id like to take it to willow springs soon but am concerned about this. One more thing it doesn't drive weird..
View 3 RepliesJust came from dealer because of a rattling noise coming from the front end. They said it was caliper piston. They also said its common just that some is not as loud others. They are trying to fix it.
View 1 RepliesPosted a while back about a rattling/clunking noise coming from my front suspension. Since my car had nearly 100k miles on it and was still all stock, I went through and replaced ever single part of the front suspension. (Control arms, ball joints, got some Koni coil overs, strut mounts, sway bar end links, swar bar bushings). Turns out the noise wasn't actually related to the suspension. I've got massive play in both of my front axles. They make horrible rattling/clunking noises going over any sort of bump, even the REALLY small ones.
View 5 RepliesAt this point I'm baffled. I've been hearing a grinding/rattling noise from the driver side wheel well for a couple months now. I was positive it was being caused by a bad hub, but the problem persists. Here is what I've done so far:
replaced brake pads and rotors -- twice; once before the hub went bad and once after. The bad hub warped the driver side rotor and afterwards passenger side would not stop squealing for some reason. replaced faulty wheel hub -- The bearing was totally shot, nearly 20* of play in it, should be totally rigid replaced faulty CV axle -- I suspect vibration from the bad hub destroyed the outboard CV joint, making popping/grinding noise while turning or going over bumps filled front differential -- it was a bit low on gear oil The grinding/rattling noise shows up when driving at freeway speed (around 55mph) and gets more pronounced as speed increases. The truck does not do this under acceleration but after speeding up, the rattling is the worst at light throttle (around 2k-2.5k RPM, in 4th gear/overdrive above 55mph).
I noticed that if I shift into neutral at freeway speed, the noise continues until the truck decelerates.
So at this point my thoughts are that it could be a bad differential, but I doubt it because the noise is almost imperceptible in the passenger seat. It could be a bad differential bearing on the drivers side (sounds like a worn out bearing to me). It could be any number of things in the transfer case or transmission.
Ive got an 07 Malibu ls. For quite some time now I have had this frt end noise. Its a tapping rattling noise on fine bumps. Here is the strange thing. It only happens in the winter and then only for a while when I start driving. It kinda goes away as I keep going. When its very cold it doesn't quite go away but gets lots less as the car is driven for a while. Ive checked everything in the front end including sway bar links. Ive made sure the brake calipers arent loose. Ive had it checked out at a reputable shop. Of course as soon as the car is inside a warm shop, it wouldnt make the noise anyways. They have not been able to pinpoint it either. What was the solution?
View 2 RepliesI recently traded in my old '96 Infiniti for this great 2001 PT Cruiser. It drives great ,,mileage is at 76K and in very good condition .. except for this. Whenever I am driving and going over minor or major bumps I get a lot of loose RATTLING, clacking noise from the front end. Obviously from the tires bouncing up and down. Is this typical for this particular PT? I remember having that in an old Jeep of mine too. Very boxy sounding in the front.

Recently I have noticed a rattling noise from the left front strut. Looking up parts online I can see the strut, as well as an upper strut mount, either of which might be the culprit.
View 2 RepliesI've noticed a rattling noise coming from under the front of my 02 toyota corolla. I looked under the car and there seems to be a piece of metal under the front of the car thats vibrating and making the noise. The piece of metal is almost directly in the middle front of the car, in-between the front tires. The sound seems to be most prominent when I accelerating or backing up.
View 2 RepliesI have a rattling noise from the front left side, and that only happens when i go over pat holes and bad road. I thought that it had to do something with my left shock absorbers but the service consultant insists it's from the dashboard. They already tried to fix it before and did not do it. What could it be.
Another thing is I have some kind of wrinkles on my dashboard especially visible when the sun hits it and looks really ugly, they told me they won't replace it unless it breakes apart,...are they supposed to replace it or no? [URL] .....
I'm pretty sure I know what the problem is since when I hit the brakes it stops. When I took the left side tire off and right side I compared and there is a thin metal sheet that has room to move on the right, but is tight on the left. When the brakes were done before maybe it didn't seat correctly or something. Just wondering what that plate is called so I can order one and change it. Driven that way 2 years, but it bugs me when the window is down and people probably think my car is falling apart. Maybe I'll search for a brake diagram.
Edit: I think they might be called "anti squeal shims". I saw a picture of them, so maybe they didn't put enough high temp grease, but the left side is tight and the rights side you can move a couple milometers side to side so I'm sure that's the jingling noise.
I have a 2004 explorer that has a clicking/rattling noise in the front of the engine. What i found is that the bottom pulley has a sleeve or ring inside of that pulley that is just floating loosely back and forth. What this is or what it is supposed to be ??? If it is a bad part, what is the best way to fix it ?
View 12 RepliesMy 2 door tdi is about 3 months old now. its whisper quiet in the cabin with the exception of this one rattle coming from somewhere on the front passenger seat area.
I've removed everything from the cabin to make sure something wasn't rubbing against anything but the rattle is still there. the odd thing is is that I cant seem to exactly isolate where its coming from.
I've knocked on the door panel, glovebox area and everywhere else i can think of and I cant reproduce it unless the car is driving. Where it was coming from?

There's a pronounced rattling sound coming from the front passenger area (I think), and you can hear it when the radio is playing. I booked an appointment at the local dealership, but the appointment was just cancelled because an "interior technician" is not available on weekends. Not only that, they said I may have to leave the vehicle at the dealership overnight, and that no courtesy car would be provided. Personally, I think that's complete BS - you don't need a P.Eng to diagnose a rattle, and what dealership doesn't have a courtesy car?
So, I'm curious to know if others have experienced anything similar, and if they've had any luck correcting interior rattles. I previously had a minor clicking sound in the overhead console area (bluetooth, lights, etc.), but that was quickly fixed at a different dealership.
For the last few months I noticed that there is a rattling or clicking noise that frequently comes from the front passenger seat area but only when no one is in that seat. If the seat is being weighed down by someone sitting there, there is no rattle or clicking noise. It generally occurs when I'm driving on bumpier or textured roads. It suspect that it's coming from something underneath the seat, like the lever that adjusts the seat forward and backward underneath it.
I brought the car to a local dealership and they took a look. After a few hours with them, the car was returned to me. They said they'd found that the lever that adjusts the seat forward/backward was not tightly screwed down all the way on one side, so they adjusted that to make it tight. They also found a coin on the rail underneath that seat and removed it too. However, I drove the car afterward and it is still making the noise.
I've searched this forum and already think I've ruled out the seat belt or the buckle as an issue. I put on the seat belt for the passenger seat and the noise still happens. It's really annoying when driving on a freeway!
I am getting some rattling noise from the inside of the cabin between the front and rear passenger doors. I had the exact same thing happen on my first Phaeton at around 25000 Miles. What causes this??

View 42 RepliesFirst issue started a few weeks ago. When turning left at a speed > 20mph or when turning wheel quickly I get a rattling noise, which is more prominent with the driver window down, so it sounds like it comes from the driver side front wheel, but not quite sure. It is fairly loud as I have had pedestrians look at my car when turning because they can hear the rattle.
Second issue started this morning but has persisted every time since. When the car is cooling down, we get that whirring noise, which I presume is thr coolant pump. That noise also happens now when I enter the car, and it is accompanied by a knocking noise as if somebody is hitting the outside of the car repeatedly. This is quite unnerving as it sounds like something is hitting the bodywork of the car. It stops immediately when the normal whirring stops.
I had the steering and water pump recall done in november last year, could this be related to that? Forgot ti add the car has done 49000miles....
I'm new to the forum and Excursion ownership but was hoping someone could save me some time and aggravation chasing a rattle in my 2004 2wd 6.0 PS. It seems to be coming from the front driver's side since I can feel it through the steering wheel. As of now, it's nothing major since it doesn't seem to affect tracking but I'm afraid it's getting worse.
I'm thinking it's a worn bushing but as I'm less familiar with the vehicle as y'all are, maybe you can point out the weak points that may be causing my issue. I plan on jacking up the front end tomorrow and inspecting for play. I'll let you know what (if anything) I find. Are there any known issues I should be aware of?
